I stopped in for lunch with a friend on a Saturday afternoon in November. Â It was not crowded, so we were able to sit right away. Â From the first impression, everything was clean, orderly, and there were no unpleasant smells, etc.
Our waiter was likely a high school kid, but he was nice and efficient. Â I ordered the fish sandwich special with sweet potato fries and my friend got the vegetarian burger. Â The food came out super hot and tasty, but my sandwich was HUGE - literally two 6" fish fillets on a 12" sub bun. Â I could barely eat half, so I was able to take home plenty :)
I ride at a barn in the area, so if we are hungry we will likely be back again.
Came for the happy hour drink specials and was not dissapointed. Â Great deals and a location that's not too close to Columbus, yet not too far away! Â The Tavern had maybe 10 people in it aside from myself and my companion. Great place to go for a clean atmosphere, and great deals!
We live 5 minutes down the road and we will be frequenting again. For sure! Â Mark, the bartender is very attentative and spot-on!
Went here for dinner. This is a missed opportunity in my opinion. This place could really set itself apart from the crowd, but sadly it did not deliver for me. This is just another place that serves uninspired food for an above average price. Maybe my expectations are too high. This place could be a real destination and maybe it is for some people. I'd like to see more of a brew pub type atmosphere where they had a nice selection of craft beers on tap. They don't. They have the big 3 and the typical InBev lineup. I don't get the menu either. It suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. I had a pasta dish which was ok but luke warm in temp. The bacon around the shrimp was too crispy and the shrimp were over cooked. Price was decent for this style of dish. The wait staff is very good. Very friendly and attentive. They have good people working there. For me, the place would be a fun hangout with a few tweaks. It would be fun to sit on the patio and enjoy a nice craft beer with friends. For me, the place didn't stand out. It isn't bad but it isn't memorable either. Pretty much the same food as every other bar restaurant serves just with fewer beer choices. Also, they don't accommodate any changes to the menu. You pretty much have to take it or leave it. Keep the staff, add more beer choices and liven up the menu and you will have a great destination.
Review Source:Finally went back for food off the menu. Â Met a date there, saw a band. Â The date was okay. Â The band was great. Â The service was pretty good.
I had the pulled pork sandwich, which was darn good for a non-barbecue place. Â Had the sauce on the side; they offer two sauces. Â The meat was tasty on its own, but a bit dry. Â Side was coleslaw which was very good. Â My date had the veggie burger, which was very tasty.
Stopped in to watch the Indi-NASCAR race last Sunday. It was the middle of the day. The first thing I noticed was how clean things were. Very well kept up. Had a seat at the bar and the bartender came right over and asked for my order. I let him know why he was there, and while he was preparing a great double Captain and Diet, he turned up the volume on the race for me. There were two other ladies at the bar enjoying hamburgers, and a couple of people at the tables.
The great thing is the menu, everything from fried bologna sandwiches, to my selection, the pasta diablo.
My meal came out quickly, the sauce was excellent, often cream sauces are either too thin, or way too heavy. This was just right. Lots of spices, plenty of fresh garlic. If you like bland food, this isn't for you. If you want to taste a great combination of heat and freshness, this covers it. I like spicy-hot foods, so on my scale the heat was a 4 out of 10. Most would probably say 6, and the heat sensitive an 8. The pasta was cooked perfectly.
Stayed and watch the race, found the prices very reasonable, and as people showed up later in the afternoon, they were all friendly and willing to chat.
Will definitely go back next time I am looking for somewhere to hang out.
I ended up at Tavern 42 by the random culinary slot machine that is the urban spoon iphone app. Â After locking in 'Delaware, Two $'a and American Food,' giving the iphone a 'shake' Tavern 42 was quickly decided as the dinner destination. Â I had little expectations before arriving and even less after pulling up to a pretty unimpressive building and gravel drive on the corner of a few busy country roads. Â The bright blue and orange sign stands out but the building does not immediately scream "Yum"
The inside was pretty standard for what I'd expect to find at a bar/restaurant in Delaware OH. There were a few classic neon beer signs as well as a large plastic sword fish hanging on the wall. Â My personal favorite piece of decor was a blue painted flying pig hanging just over the entrance to the bathrooms. There was a a pretty big patio outside too. Â Although one patron was braving the brisk wind and devouring prime rib and loaded baked potato, it was a little too cold for us to sit outside (It's May central Ohio, you never know what you're going to get after all).
The menu was pretty basic with items like cheese fries, cheese sticks and cheese burgers. Â I was happy to see one of my favorite entrees: Steak Salad (Pittsburgh style with french fries on top). The variety is good for being casual American and the best part is that the prices are very reasonable. Â Although the salad sounded good, I was starving, sleepy and looking for any reason to justify something with the word 'cheese' in the title. Â Went with the classic cheeseburger and fries instead. Â I went simple with American cheese and date went high class with bacon and blue cheese both came in under 8 and 9 bucks respectively. Â Fries were pallet pleasing; arriving well seasoned and piping hot. Â Entrees were actually served on hot plates. Â Too hot we discovered when waitress Briann set them down in a hurry exclaiming, "Watch out, I need my hands I am a violin player!"
Speaking of Briann, she was one of the highlights of the evening. Â She was very friendly and had a natural way of talking to the customers. Â At the end of the meal she very easily convinced date and I to take home a piece of 'fudgey wudgy' cake. **pause for laughter** Yeah I know, how much convincing do I need to eat chocolate cake, right? Â Agreed. Â But Briann's description was irresistible. Unfortunately, the description is all I have to go on because I am still full from the burger and not had a chance to give the confectionery creation a try.
Briann also commented that date's debit card was the second coolest card she'd ever seen (in case you're wondering, it looks like a cassette tape and if you don't know what a cassette tape is, turn down your Justin Beiber itunes and google it). Â Naturally we wanted to hear about the card that trumped us. Â It was a Budweiser rewards card, $300 tab and the kicker . . . card was declined. Â Points for irony yes, but based on aesthetics alone, we still feel we win.
Adjacent to our table was a lovely couple with a 4-year-old tow head beauty devouring a half rack of saucy fall of the bone ribs. Â She was cute enough to eat with a spoon even BEFORE she was covered from head to tow in BBQ sauce. The full order of ribs comes in at 15.99 and looked like plenty for 2 people to share. Â
Now I'm not saying the chances of me coming back to Tavern 42 are equivalent to a blue painted pig flying. . . Â but I can't imagine Ill again soon find myself in Delaware and hungry without giving some of the other restaurants a try first. Â If I do go back however, Ill take a hint from our lil blond neighbor, who probably ended the evening bathing under a pressure washer . . .and get the ribs.
