Very disappointed. Have eaten here since opening. Usually good, if ordering specials or consistently prepared menu items. Ordered 2 mixed green salads. Just a slight hint of dressing on the bottom of the plate, a couple of very small crumples of cheese, one or two bits of nuts. $16 cost, about $2.00 worth of salad, if that. Expect ups and downs in quality, but this was as down as you can get. No excuse for this.
Review Source:Tellers look fancy when you're walking by, but the prices are reasonable and the atmosphere intimate. I like to go here for a late-night bite to eat downtown.
I had the black-bean quesadilla for dinner, and at $7, it was great. The quesadilla is a little too spicy for my taste, but the portion size is generous and the quesadilla slices are stuffed. I'd recommend.
I love sitting by the huge restaurant windows and watching pople walk downtown.
I came here for lunch once and decided to try it for my birthday dinner with a small group of friends. The food was GREAT. We started with the fried artichokes with aioli sauce. Sooo good! I wish I knew how to make it myself. For the main course, I had the penne special with chicken and shrimp. Yum! My friends had salad and steaks, and everyone was happy with their order. Tellers also has a good martini selection. They're not too creative, but they're very tasty.
Tellers also displays art from (local?) artists. When I first visited Tellers, there were some bright, vibrant paintings of people. The artwork during my dinner visit was bizarre and a little disturbing. One I remember in particular was of a fat, white man with mouths/teeth all over his body. I can't even begin to describe the painting, but it was incredibly disturbing. I'm just glad I didn't have to face it through dinner. I wonder how they select which artists to feature...
The only drawback to Tellers was the slow service. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. However, between appetizers and the actual meal, time seemed to drag on. There were only four of us, and the restaurant wasn't full, so I don't understand why it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Once it did, we forgot totally about the wait, but it was still too long. I'm not sure if this was just a fluke or if Tellers is slow on a regular basis.
I"ve been here a few times, for dinner and for lunch. The servers are always really nice, the ambience is good, and the food never disappoints! I like the outdoor seating, too. They do great salads you can create yourself with homemade dressings and lots of options. The french dip is one of my favorites, and their tater tots are awesome (especially with chipotle aoli). Tellers is perfect for a laid back dinner or nice lunch with friends!
They're on Tiger Takeout, but just go there - it's way more fun.
gotta love tellers! the service is excellent, food is great. lots of appetizers to choose from and vegetarian stuff too. have a drink, get the wine and cheese plate appetizer (brie covered in puff pastry that's been baked with nuts and honey over it, served with apples and other fruit... yumm) sit by the window and enjoy! i also love the eclectic music they play there in the evenings (anything from bb king to some great choices in electronic music)
Review Source:I was lucky enough to spend New Years Eve at Tellers with my mother and let me tell you, boy am I glad we did. Having to come back into town for work, I had no plans for the evening and got off of work quite late. My mom made a reservation for 9:15, but we arrived early (round 9) and were seated immediately. Impressive, seeing as how the restaurant was in no way slow. We were seated by the window overlooking 9th which was a great view to people-watch from (a fun thing to do on New Years Eve). Â
Now onto the real reason you're reading this: the food.
We started off with the crostini: delicious pieces of toasted French bread with a Parmesan-and-garlic spread over-top (think garlic bread but way better). It came with delicious red pepper spread, fresh (thats right, fresh and made in-house) pesto, fresh goats cheese, some olives and cherry tomatoes. The pesto, which was my favorite part of the appetizer, was gone quickly, the rest of the toppings soon after it. With almost with perfect timing, our meal followed. Â
Because we came late, the restaurant was out of the two dishes that my mother and I were planning on ordering, which I normally would complain about but our backups were so delicious it didn't even matter. I ordered a curry soba noodle dish with shrimp, my mother the steak. While I cant say much about my moms dish, mine was excellent. A extremely generous portion of noodles, served with shiitake mushrooms, broccoli and other vegetables I'm having trouble remembering, satued in a creamy curry sauce that reminded me more of an Alfredo than a curry (the texture more than the flavor). It was nonetheless great, although I did have a hard time finishing the entire dish due to its enormity.
The night was finished with a complementary champaign toast, which was unexpected, but warmly received by everyone in the restaurant. My thanks go out to the owner (Deb?) who kept running back to our table to ensure everything was going well. I suggest everyone try Tellers, if the food isn't that impressive to you I guarantee the service will be. I've been to a lot of restaurants in Columbia, but had the best service at Tellers. I will be back, that's for sure.
The main problem was that we were seated under a television showing the baseball game, which was annoying because the place was dark and we had a tv flashing above us. It was very distracting. I don't understand why every restaurant needs a tv. If you want to watch the sports game, stay home or go to a sports bar.
I don't remember what I ordered, but my food was alright. My boyfriend's food was not. He found it inedible and he's usually not that picky.
I was expecting the place to look and feel a little bit more 'hip.' I've only been once, but I don't think I'll go again. It was ok, but there are better places to eat downtown.
Ok, I am on the fence about this place. I was debated between 2 and 3 stars. I think 2.5 would be a perfect score, but it doesn't exist. Anyway, The bar is nicely appointed with a good selections of cocktails, and wine. The beer list could use some attention though. Especially if you like your beer on tap.
Other downside include the space. This place is SMALL. If you have  large group say 6-8 people they will most likely have issues sitting you all. Furthermore, they didn't seem to want our business that much. The barmaid was in a simple word terrible. I ended up moving my tab to the bar so that I could get some more prompt service.
Also, please clean your bathrooms.
My only complaint is that I was too full for dessert.
This restaurant/ bar is in a cool spot on the corner f ninth and broadway. Â I've walked by it a number of times when I was headed to Khaldi's and had to park on broadway Â
The atmosphere seemed kind of cool on the walk-bys and there can be a little bit of a crowd on some nights, so I decided to check it out.
The inside was mellow, even early, and intimate like a jazz club or something. Â Well, except for the crazy artwork. Â There are some pretty crazy painting for sale. Â There seemed to be a lot of devils or something. Â That may have just been a theme with the artist they are showcasing for now.
There's a big bar and plenty of tables that are against the windows to look outside. Â
I ordered the KC strip rare and a beer. Â The steak was huge. Â It was grilled perfectly rare. Â It was grilled (blackened) with a coat of peper, salt, and some other dry spices that were not over powering the flavor of the meat. Â The meat sat on top of a huge pillow of mashed potatoes. Â It was all covered in a blue-cheese and green onion sauce.
The blue cheese sauce was good, but it probably wasn't necessary on this piece of meat. Â The steak could have stood alone I'm sure. Â The potatoes were pretty good as well. Â The blue cheese did add flair though. Â It made it different from the same KC everyone else might serve.
They have quite a number of beers to choose from
Also, The staff was prompt, friendly and efficient.
It was a good overall experience. Â I'll probably be back to try them again.
love the fried artichoke hearts, curly fries, art gallery aspect, people watching, quiet atmosphere. great date restaurant because they don't rush you or bother you and it's quiet enough to talk and look at great artwork. nice martini selection too and bartenders who will make you custom tasty drinks.
Review Source:Your average restaurant experience. Â Nothing spectacular. Â Food was pretty good - I had the grilled portabello over a polenta-y cake with some herb covered goat cheese balls. Â The flavors weren't fantastic together. Â The mushroom was pretty bland. Â But, I will say the other dishes I noticed around the table looked better than mine. Â
My water glass was always promptly filled (which I appreciated greatly cause I was dehydrated as shit). Â Maybe that's why I didn't love my meal. Â I was still a little hungover from the night before.
