Terrible food. My cousin ordered chicken strips, pretty basic right? Somehow they were terrible, slimy on the inside and burned on the outside. I ordered the pecan flounder supposedly caught in the nearby nueces bay. BLEH it was gooey and had a terrible fish-oil flavor. It did not taste like flounder but instead bad fishy mush. I love fish but ya know when its got that really gross flavor like it is old or something? Anyways, my aunt ordered chicken fried chicken and she sent it back because there was a spider under her fries and the chicken was not good tasting. They comped the chicken fried chicken but my cousin and I felt bad for the waitress who was clearly being scolded by her manager (why? she didn't cook the food) so we did not complain. Needless to say though, I will not be going back.
Review Source:We planned on going to Chili's. On our way there I noticed the huge neon sign in front of this place so we decided to try it out. BIG MISTAKE. Bad first impressions. The place reminded me of golden corral for some reason. Cheap seats and tables with really tacky decor on the walls like they where trying really hard to make it look like a steak house.
After we where seated the waitress seemed really annoyed that she had to wait on us. She took our drink order and returned with rolls and cinnamon butter. They were ok at best but there where brought in this plastic basket that looked like they stole it from dairy queen. No knife for the butter. I ordered the ribeye and my girlfriend ordered the chicken fried chicken. The steak tasted freezer burned absolutely the worst steak Ive had anywhere. The gravy on my girlfriends chicken fried chicken was runny as water and the mash potatoes tasted instant. Needless to say we're never going back.
If you appreciate good service, redirect your efforts. Â After being seated, the long wait begins for a server to approach your table. Â Upon selection of drinks, the wait can be up to 15 minutes to actually receive your drinks, with an occasional, be right back with those drinks. Â Good luck with your food order, if you can remember just who your server is. Â Break out the flags. Â You will see the manager scurrying around carrying food trays to customer's tables, delayed orders. Â If you feel so inclined to pay after eating, another 10-15 minutes wait is probable. Â Total chaos. Â Don't know what hiring practices are required, but definite lack of organization. Â Dined in Portland at least 3 times. Â Never returned. Â Calallen is much better organized, better food, service. Â Have been eating there about 3 yrs. Â Little pricey. Â Try dining during daylight hours if you wish to indulge in the cuisine.
Review Source:Hard a lot about this place and took the family there to try it out.
I ordered a ribeye that was $18.00. What was brought to me was a steak that was thin like a breakfast steak and tough like jerky. I asked for medium rare and was cooked well done. Meat was full of fat and gristle.
All the steaks at our table were the same story. I asked our server for the manager and he pointed him out to us. He was at a table next to us apologizing for their meal...steaks. I then witnessed him tell a waiter to comp that table PLUS another tables meals.
He finally got to us and we told him our issues with our meals. He said th order only the best "select" steaks. At steak lover knows "prime" is the way to go...unless its Kobe. So by telling me it's a select steak tells me they aren't getting good meats.
My steak should've cost $8 at the most. It was in no way worth $18. He ended up comp'ing our meal.
Would I go back? Maybe if Zombies were attacking and that was the only safe place left in the world.
Summary...don't bother with this place. Over priced, over cooked, sorry cut of meat, not worth it.
This is in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn and since I was staying there, I decided to try it. They have decent food and a nice bar area. This is not the kind of food that I would recommend anyone go out of their way for, but if you are staying at the Holiday Inn, it can't be beat. Oh, and they have Shiner Bock and Sam Adams on tap, so it can't be that bad.
