My boyfriend took me here to experience something new and we had an exceptional experience! The bartender was knowledgeable about his wines and picked out some good tasting reds and whites for us to taste! their house red wine was surprisingly delicious! So to sum it up, great service, good wine, and beautiful display... did I mention cheese? They also have cheese!
Review Source:It's always a great place to stop by for a drink or a snack. The new owners have whittled down the menu, but in a good way, and have also introduced a happy hour for the weekdays. Prices have come down allowing you to sample a broader range of wines without having to think about cutting into tomorrow's lunch budget.
If you do go, try to go on a Saturday when Christine is working. In fact, I almost go to Rick's exclusively on Saturdays for Christine's stellar service.
Great food, amazing selection of wine, a wonderful ambiance, and superb service make this a location you do not want to miss out on!
Doran and Kate are the new owners. Very cool team. They've transformed the "wine shop" atmosphere into a very relaxing wine "lounge". Stopping by a couple of days a week now, I will say I'm a very big fan. Whether grabbing a glass of wine, a beer or a panini, I always leave satisfied. Too bad they don't open til 3.
They have a great Happy Hour too!
Definitely worth a visit. You could thank me later...
Perhaps I'm biased because this is literally up the street from my apartment by just a minute-long walk but, then again, I don't really know of ANY other wine bars here in Marin... which is a bit strange, considering that we're surrounded by esteemed wine producing regions.
Biiiiiiig cheese plates. Tasty paninis. Liberal wine samples. My kind of place, indeed.
There are many wine bars in Marin but none have the knowledge of Rick's.
Great selection of California Pinot and Chard, 20 wines by the glass, a lot of beer that I never order. Beer is served in proper glassware, kept chilled where appropriate. Wine is served in varietaly correct Riedel stemware. The regulars are friendly, the staff is helpful and not pretentious. Great selection of meats, cheese and Panini sandwiches (order a Rickinator and bring a friend, its a monster) . Two HDTVs for enjoying local sports. You would think parking would be an issue but 9 times out of ten I manage to snag a spot right in front of the store.
Sidewalk seating available with those patio heaters.
No one under 21 allowed, Not sure of their official pet policy but they serve food there and I would personally love it if you kept your animals at home.
Popped in to Rick's today for the first time. Â Great selection of hard to find small production wines. Â Incredible deli sando's, the Rickanater could end world hunger all on its own! Â Â If you are in to your wines or just getting in to wine, this is by far the easiest way to enjoy all the bounties of wine country! Â Truly an epicuron delight! Â This place has the perfect DNA and is well on its way to becoming an institution. Â Bravo Rick and Candy, Bravo!
Review Source:I've driven by Ricks over the years and always said "I'm going to stop in one of these days" well I did just that two days ago to see what I've been missing. Â I couldn't stay but I came back the next day to relax and enjoy some delicious wines. I had the Saddleback Zinfandel and met some very nice people including the owners Rick and Candy. I felt very much at home and within minutes found myself taking part in good conversation, with some nice people. The first thing you notice when you walk into to Ricks, Â is that it's clean and cozy. The wine selection is impressive and you can purchase wine to take home. Rick has a good selection of munchies like cheese and salami and prosciutto to name a few; watching Rick one gets the sense that he is a perfectionist you can tell he loves his place and takes tremendous pride in how he serves his menu, right down to how it looks on the plate. At one point he was slicing some prosciutto near me and let me taste a slice - wow! It was sliced perfectly and seems to melt in your mouth. Now, I am not a wine connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination, and you don't have to be, the menu is easy to read and Rick and his staff are very knowledgeable. There is something about a Wine Bar that seems to attract beautiful and friendly people.
Rick's is a quintessential place to go and enjoy delicious wine surrounded by good people in a cozy environment.
Rick (the namesake) has a Fantastic personality with a deep knowledge of wine. Â The portfolio he offers is extensive and he makes sure his customers are happy. Â This is a fantastic location across from Corte Madera Park bordering Larkspur. Â I saw more than one regular come in to purchase wine without tasting. Â My son and I enjoyed new wines we had never tried with Honig Cab at the top of our list.
Review Source:Rick and his wife were not only amazing hosts, but very generous. Â My friend and I had a wonderful time chatting, learning, and having the most delicious anti-pasta plate. Â Did you know that you can buy a bottle of wine at Rick's (I loved the Frank Family's Cabernet) and take it to various restaurants with zero corkage fee? Â Yes, Rick developed this great concept back in 2007. Â It is quite an impressive place; you must go at least once - I promise you will return.
Review Source:I love Rick's but I mostly love Christine! She's the best bartender around! I've found her knowledgeable and she's probably one of the funniest and sassiest women I've ever met. I love their wines and they have great food. Often times I feel wine bars just have olives and cheese. Rick's makes great gourmet food to pair with a lovely selection of wines. It's a great place to have a drink after work, or meet up with my girlfriends before we go out. I highly recommend it. I do however prefer Fridays and Saturdays so that i get to catch the charm of Ms. Christine!
Review Source:My boyfriend and I tried out Rick's recently and were really impressed with  how friendly and welcoming the staff was. Since we are younger and new to wine some of these wine bars can be snooty and intimidating but Rick's is laid back and approachable. The wine was great, the pepper-wrapped prosciutto and provolone snacks were great, and the atmosphere was great! That combined with reasonable prices and we'll definitely go back!
Review Source:Rick Mendell knows his way around wine. He will help you to find the perfect choice for a party, a meal or just for fun. His selection is truly wide-ranging and his pricing covers the spectrum.
Not only that but you can taste some great wines there and join in the ongoing good times. Wine snobs and neophytes mix well at Rick's.
Think CHEERS in terms of the camaraderie and eclectic crowd. Think great wine and people that know it - real well. This place is great - low key but vibrant with a unique ambiance. Rick and his crew not only know wine but know people. Nice...
The "Le Volpi e L'Uva" (Firenze) but in Corte Madera, California!
CYA at Rick's...
If you haven't been here in a awhile or never have, go! Â This economy is a challenge for the small shops & like everyone else says, Rick is a gem--let's support him! Â
Have a party there, he'll treat you well. Â Buy your wine there--it is seriously the best Pinot place in the Bay Area. Â And please tell your friends.
We had a tweet up there last night for wine lovers & he, Candy & Alexis could not have been more accommodating. Â Anything we can do to make sure this special place survives the economic down turn is good for our community. Â Cheers~
Friends took me Rick's Friday and I have to say I am a huge fan. Â It's an nice little neighborhood wine bar with a good but not overwhelming selection of by the glass, and half glass, wines. Â
Rick is so nice and even put together a wonderful cheese tray for us. Â We weren't sure what to try so we left it in his hands. (we were all drinking different wines) He put one on the plate that we all loved. Â I believe it was an Australian feta with a garlic oil. Â INCREDIBLE! Â
I started my tasting with a glass of Moet Chandon White Star. Â It was the perfect start. Â I sampled a few whites and a couple reds (I didn't drink them all) and had a wonderful time. Â I also picked up a few bottles and was pleasantly surprised that the bottle prices were very reasonable and he's got a very nice selection. Â Again, nice but not overwhelming. Â
Both Rick and his staff were all very friendly. Â I will be going back!
Love this place, and LOVE Rick. He makes you feel so welcome and chats with you like an old friend coming over for a glass of wine. PLUS, the wine list is phenomenal with an ever changing wines by the glass list which never disappoints. I just wish this place were closer to home. Can't wait till my next visit.
Review Source:Excellent wine selection, tasty cheeses, friendly patrons, and the best host of all, Rick. Today was my second time visiting Rick's Wine Cellar and though I only popped in for a short amount of time, (I was there four hours the first time!!) Rick still continued to amaze. This place is a gem and my only wish is that I lived closer so I could frequent it more often.
It is a very comfortable environment, especially for individuals who may be visiting alone. Rick and his followers will make you feel very welcome.
Can't wait to visit again, this time I hope for another four hour sojourn!
I wish I was in the area with time to enjoy a glass of wine more often.
I've been there once and both the bartender and the regulars that were there were very friendly and engaged my wife and I as soon as we entered.
Very relaxing and great selection of wines and bites. When you're there, I get the feeling you're amongst friends.
I stopped in to Rick's completely by accident while visiting my friends in Corte Madera. Â A girlfriend and I were waiting for our manicure and popped in for one glass. Â Rick was moving slow and we were in what we thought was a rush. Â Three glasses later Rick had shared some of the best cheese I've ever had to make up for his speed. Â It was a lovely day and such a cute space. Â I'll be back!
Review Source:Came here for a post-dinner tipple after having another great dinner at Bennisimo's. Â They have a great avriety available to taste, and they have flights available as well. Â It just so happens that the night we went, they had a Layer Cake flight available (I love their Cab!!). Â
Christina (Chrissy?) Â was our server and was very sweet and knowledgable about the selections, and made some great reccomendations. Â It seemed as if she knew every other person in the place, and that almost everyone was somewhat of a regular. Â
I'm really looking forward to coming back here and trying some of their other options!
I went to Rick's on a blind date. You know, where you meet someone someplace interesting so that you are certain to have something good to talk about.
In my multi-taking frenzy of daily life, apparently (and according to the email thread I did) I forgot to send the reply that confirmed the date.
So here I am, dressed and pretty all alone at Rick's waiting for a date that doesn't know he's supposed to meet me there! Â While the mix-up was a bit ego bruising (think I'd gotten stood up), it did give me a lot of time to meet with Rick and learn about the venue.
There are great wines here, and the owner Rick is very knowledgeable. And not in a way like a wine snob, but in that way that shows he loves wine, what he does, and his customers.
Add to that the quality aspect to the place. Great wine, awesome food, good company... I'll clearly be returning. Â This time with a date!
And when Rick finishes adding enough gluten free/dairy free options to his menu, I'll bump the review to a 5 star! Â Add yummie grape juice (like gewurztraminer non alcoholic) and I'll petition to add a 6th star! :)
I happened upon Rick's while searching for Row Eleven Pinot Noir. I headed up to Corte Madera from SF thinking I would just pick up a couple bottles here and head back. I found the place very difficult to leave.
3 glasses later of excellent Chardonnay I don't think I could have been more comfortable there. The wine bar was quiet but interesting and Rick had much to say about the various wines and events around.
I thoroughly enjoy the ambience of the place. Rick makes it a friendly, no BS wine bar. It was noticably absent of some of the usual pretense that accompanies typical wine bars. They're about good wine, good food, and good people.
And if you can get Rick to make you a Prosciutto Panini you are in for a real treat.
I've been going to this wine bar for 15 years, before it was Rick's it was Michael's. Â When Rick (and Candy) first opened for business a few years ago I was very apprehensive but my feelings were assuaged seeing the awesome inventory of pinot noir on the shelves.
I've introduced others to Rick's and they love it as much if not more than me! My wife loves it (what can be more important than that?) here too. The panini sandwiches are well worth looking forward to and fun atmosphere and adult spirit around the bar make this a feel good, neighborly type of place. Everyone's cool here and all pretense is left outside the door.
Highly recommended.
How can you not dig this place? Â An approachable wine cellar. Â I have no hopes/talents of becoming a connoisseur, but I live in Marin, where you either KNOW wine or you avoid it. Â Rick's is the in between. Â It is a place that is passionate about wine for people who are passionate about life (and love wine.) Â This is a great joint to build your comfort for wine and let the staff explain the rest with a smile.
Yum on the cheese plates.
If you are interested in fine and difficult to find WINE, there is no better place to go than Rick's!! Â Rick carries cult wine to everyday, yet unique, wine and is more than happy to tell you a little bit about each one! Â Not only can you find a nice wine here, but you can hang out, sip some of the wines on the menu and fill your belly with some delicious paninis, cheese, fancy meats, chocolates, and more! Â This is such a great family owned wine shop and bar. Â Support the local business, buy wine you can't find most places, and enjoy yourself! Â Rick will be happy you did and so will you!
Review Source:Rick's is a little unexpected, in the sense that it looks like a wine shop but is also, and thank god for this, an awesome wine bar as well. Complete with a wacky cast of "regulars," I always end up having an amazing, serendipitious time there.
Christine, the vixen behind the bar, is my absolute favorite. Ignore the fact that I've known and loved her since high school, she's a hilarious and knowledgable pourer of wine and a wonderful excuse to swing by and drink a glass or five.
They've got snacks too, although I usually just mooch some crackers from my inevitable new friends on either side of me. Plus, Rick's has great deals and fun flights, not to mention bizarre group conversations you can't help becoming a part of.
Like a few weeks ago, when the entirety of the joint discussed Thai prostitution over Chardonnay.
Everyone is oddly warm and friendly, and while they take their vino seriously, are happy to share sips and sass over laughs after work. It's like Cheers for winos...
We were escaping the SF fog one weekend and ended up in Ricks cellar. Â He's got a very "well curated" collection, and fair prices. Â
Rick was very helpful in suggesting wines to try, and spent a lot of time discussing wineries with my husband -- he made a copy of a list he had and highlighted the ones to check out. Â
We sat at the bar for some wine and cheese (humongous portions). Â To be honest I didn't mind that he measured his pours all I thought was that it was so he didn't under-pour. Â Â The wine and cheese were delicious but what I really enjoyed was the conversation, plus he did this really cool thing - he demonstrated how the wineglass changes the smell and taste of your wine...it was Amazing! like a magic trick heeh.
Not the rowdy pickup sort of place. Â More like a relaxed, friendly, good fun bar.
To be honest, we stopped in to use the ladies room while on a walk. Not wanting to be rude, we opted for a quick  flight of reds. Chatting with Rick about wines time seemed to slip by. So, we had a flight of whites. More chat, more wine. We bagged the walk and just hung out for the afternoon. The wine selection both by the bottle or glass was lovely. A bit of something for everyone with price points that leave you feeling like you just scored a great deal. Though we didn't eat, the appetizer menu looked like it would pair well with the wines.
The decor is a far cry from the previous owners style. Warm and welcoming with nice artwork and a beautiful bar, the ambiance made us feel at home.
Rick's is a wonderful addition to the wine bar scene in Marin. Stop by for a quick taste, glass or take a bottle to go... just make sure you stop on by.
This is the best wine bar around! Â My husband and I go in here at least once a month for the fantastic wines, but also the friendly service. Â Rick is extremely knowledgeable about wines and can give you great recommendations on wines to taste and to purchase based on your preference and budget (since they are a wine shop too). Â Rick keeps his prices on bottles very competitive, which translates to reasonably priced wines by the glass since he doesn't hike up the prices like you see at so many other wine bars. Â Plus, if you find a bottle in the wine shop that's not on the menu, you can purchase it and have it opened at the bar for a small corkage fee - there's something for everyone! Â Â
This is a real gem in Marin County. Â If you plan to make the trip from the city or elsewhere, beware of the hours since they do close a bit early for a bar...but that's out of their control. Â Cheers!
Well I drive by this establishment every day on my way home from work... I never stopped because I thought the old owner was still in place... (ugh he had nooooooooooo personality), but after reading the reviews below I decided last night to stop and have a glass of wine or two.....
Candy and Rick are very friendly and make you feel welcome as soon as you sit down... Â great conversation and suggestions about the type of wine I like.... I now know that I like "buttery" chards. Â I met several other people who were sitting at the bar and because of Candy and Rick we all became fast friends for the night...
Such a wonderful selection of wine and they serve each wine in the correct wine glass so you get the real feel and taste of the wine. Â You can also buy a bottle of wine at the store and if memory serves me correctly if the bottle is under $25 there is a $5.00 corkage fee and if the bottle is over $25 there is no corkage fee...
I will be back.... I hope to see some of you too!!!
PS.... the cheese selection is wonderful and I had a great plate of cheese and crackers... Â Nice date place.... Â now if I ever get a date this would be a good place to go and get a good vibe.
This is the best wine bar in bay area and boy does my husband know his wines. Â The cheese plates alone are a reason to come here
They are HUGE and often are the dinner when we visit this place.
There are alot of interesting people who come here, and the place is buzzing on FRIdays after work  .  It is also fun to watch special sporting events here on the huge tv.  ( usually music is playing but when its super bowl time the TV is on)
They offer special changing weekly wine flights and owners Rick and
Candi Mandell are always available to offer advice to newbies. Â They have unusual and hard to get wines and offer weekly specials.
Its a fun place to hang out
