Went here for dinner with several friends to mainly have a nice ocean view dinner, not really expecting amazing food. However, it was actually pretty delightful!
The buffalo chicken wontons were awesome. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the outer wonton shell was crispy and not too oily. The nachos had a rich, creamy & slightly spicy cheese sauce (not a typical "yellow" cheese) and were very addictive!
I had the p.e.i. mussels for dinner and they were amazing! The spicy marinara sauce and goat cheese was an unexpected and flavorful pairing. I also had a sangria, which was perfect - not too sweet & garnished with fresh lemon/lime/cherry.
All of my friends enjoyed their meals & drinks too.
The place was very busy, but we were seated quickly (& by an ocean front window, as requested). The service was friendly, efficient & quick. Someone was always refilling our water glasses. The atmosphere was clean & welcoming.
I'll definitely go back!
Went here recently for the taping of Tim McLoones radio show and had a Groupon for dinner. I have to say that it was the best meal we have had there and the service was excellent.
The meal was a 3 course Prix Fixe and included a wine pairing with each course.
We started with the Mussels, which were excellent - the portion was huge. My wife had the Mahi Mahi entree while I chose the Tenderloin Medallions - the best I have had in quite some time. Dessert consisted of Chocolate Truffle Cake and Cheesecake. The wine pairings went well with each course.
Dining while enjoying the radio show taping was a nice experience and we will do it again.
The wife and I are regulars here. Sometimes just for the entertainment and drinks, other times for the full boat. Real night club atmosphere. Tuesdays you can't go wrong with Mark Ribler and Friends. Fridays and Saturdays, The Shirley's, Tim's band, or nights of Bob Burger or Bobby Bandiera. This is the Jersey Shores best music.
They just came up with a new, smaller menu. Smart move. We always thought the food was just there to round out the night but on our last time here the food was very good. The soup was okay, but the mussels were excellent. Both of us had Mahi Mahi and I have to say was prepared very well. Dessert was just ok. We added a bottle of wine and a great night. Our waiter was good being attentive a making sure our requests for the kitchen were prepared the way we asked.
Consistently mediocre.
I live here. We have MANY good restaurants in the area, and a few GREAT ones within walking distance or within a mile drive. This isn't one of them.
I've eaten here a number of times - usually when friends or relatives are in from out of town and I can't talk them in to one of the known-good eateries, or when everything else is so crowded that I can't get them into a better place.
Tonight I had the Ahi tuna entree, forgetting for a moment that they've never produced anything really impressive out of this kitchen. I remembered that after the first bite. It wasn't bad, but it was... consistent. Consistent with everything else I've had here.
If you're here for music, then eat elsewhere first. If you're starving, then have an appetizer and eat real food somewhere else later. Or get a burger. Just don't aim high.
And don't let the upscale prices fool you into thinking that this kitchen can deliver something special. It can't.
What has been created from the old Howard Johnson's on the boardwalk in Asbury Park is unbelievable. This venue is top notch and as an event planner I have found their staff to be more organized and flexible than others in the area.
Upstairs, you're treated to 360 degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, Convention Hall, the Wonder Bar, the Berkeley Hotel, and the neighborhood stretching toward Deal Lake.
You have to come check this place out, its legit amazing!
Enjoy live music while dining, sip cocktails on the wraparound porch and circular ramp down to the boardwalk. Check their calendar for upcoming musical acts and book off-season to get a good rate!
You are paying for their limited ocean view here, that's it. The drinks are standard bar fare and NOT worth the $9-12 price tag that comes with them. The food is astronomically over priced and the staff walk around like they're some sort of local celebrity that doesn't have time to "deal" with your blue collar kind.
Bottom line? This place is a tourist trap for rich Manhattan people walking out of a Paramount Show and clueless enough not to get a table down the boardwalk at Langosta lounge.
My sister and I went to for dinner and the service was a disaster. It took our server 15 minutes after we sat down to greet us. Other waiters said they would get her and we literally ate the bread that the busser gave us before our server came to our table. It took another 10 minutes to bring our drinks. Finally the soup came and my sister said she didn't want the bacon in it so the server brought it back to the kitchen then returned with it. My sister had to pick out chunks of bacon that obviosly was mixed in. ( the soup isn't made with bacon, it's put on the bottom of the bowl, then they pour the soup over it). Then she took another drink order from us and neglected to bring them. Also, the swordfish was dry and fishy so we asked for a new server. That is something I never had to do and since they made her serve us even after requesting a new server, she just gave us her normal bad service with an added bad attitude. I will NEVER go there again.
Review Source:Poor service. Overpriced (as one would expect for a boardwalk restaurant). But worst of all, very small portions and mediocre food. Went with a big group and nobody was satisfied. Small salads with little sustenance, greasy vegetables, and flavorless burgers/portabellas. The waitress also didn't seem to like me very much (was pretty rude) so this didn't help the situation. She brought over the wine we orderred and then just walked away, then got annoyed at us when we poured it ourselves after she walked away from the table for over 5 minutes...
Review Source:Had dinner here recently and was very impressed. It recently reopened and apparently, the menu is significantly changed. There is a little something for everybody, from salads and burgers to seafood. Everything is fairly priced and nothing is very expensive.
The atmosphere is quite attractive--we were invited to go upstairs, but it was getting late and we passed. The place was rather empty, although I have been told it has been crowded on other nights. It is also, off season. I'm sure they will pick up in the warmer weather.
We started by sharing a salad that was plenty large enough as a starter for both of us. I thought the wine was a bit expensive at about $8 a glass, but my companion said it was a decent price for what we ordered (I know very little about wine).
I had swordfish, which was melt-in-your-mouth good. My companion had salmon that he asked to have prepared in a different way from what was on the menu. It came exactly as he had asked.
The server was very nice and casual. They have a nice bar area that had more people at it than the tables. A nice fireplace with a seating area around it, makes it attractive in the cooler weather.
The place seems like it will be fun in the summer months with all the outdoor seating and I'm looking forward to going back.
I tried to like this place since it's located right outside the beach and there is never a wait. but the food and drinks! eek. my friend and I ordered margaritas and they were the worst margaritas I've ever had in my life. totally bland, lacking margarita mix. My friend refused to drink it, he ordered a bottled beer instead. the food was bad too, we ordered oysters, burgers and crab dip. none of them were tasty and even the presentation was bad, too. ah, the hostess seemed really stressed out, but the service wasn't too bad. overall, I would never go back to this place.
Review Source:signed up in yelp just to say how bad this was. had a brunch recently with them, it's basically a total rip off. The person that went with me had to pay 20$ for some bread and muffins, a portion of old quiche that the cook was not able to reheat properly (carbonized parts) and a plain plain sorbet. I had a burger with nothing but lettuce and tomato and potato chips (not french fries) for over 12 dollars. We ordered a couple of oysters which were still ice cold from the fridge and had been opened a few hours before. They were tasteless, only ate 3 of them. The service was equally bad and obviously ignored the fact that we only ate half of what was being served each time. Portions are small. Location is great, tables are spacious and the atmosphere not that bad apart from that, but forget about eating anything that tastes like real food... and it's pretty pricey overall.
Review Source:I come here quite frequently. The food is some of the best on the Jersey Shore! There is always something going on around the boardwalk and even if you just come in for a drink, the staff are always friendly and helpful.
I am slowly working my way through the menu and I haven't had a selection that hasn't been excellent.
I've added a photo of the Caesar Salad I had a few nights ago. It was one of the best I've ever had with tender grilled chicken and whole strips of white anchovy.
Keeping up with the Jones is fine if you're talking about the way you mow the lawn, but trying to emulate NYC cuisine in  a NJ Provencal beach town is just stupid....
I was looking to see if there was a "fussy" category for restaurant, but sadly...no. Â This place warrants it...the food was overly prepared, with no fewer than 6 ingredients on each dish like "crunchy-wasabi-crusted-rare-tuna-with-tamari-red-Âsauce-daikon-wasabi-oil" WHEW that's a mouthful.... and not in a good way. Â The food was just overwrought and busy but ironically it was TASTELESS..the chef (Andrew Gruel *snicker*) has an obvious aversion to salt and while he would have 9 herbs per dish there was little or no flavor, we actually asked for a bowl of sea salt for the table.
Our Waitress MAY have been retarded...the bread sucked (and got worse as the night went on (there where several of us and we where hungry and they replaced the decent bread with what appeared to be wonder bread) the portions where strange and inconsistent from a salad that literally had three pieces of lettuce to a lasagna that would have fed 4 people (literally) it was just odd and to top it off...it was EXPENSIVE...at $30 for a basic entree it better be good and it was not...sorry guys stick to steamers and beer
