If you want traditional dinner food go here! Â I am not usually a dinner fan because of Sharis and Denny's food sucks but Tommy's is really good. I have been three times and have loved the food each time. Â The cinnamon roll has got to be the best! They give HUGE amounts of food but its good! Very cheap for everything you get!
Review Source:I visited Tommy's recently. Â I hadn't been there since it was called Nona Rosalina's. Â Anyone else remember that? Â I was with a large group that wanted to eat there.
I ordered something simple that I thought would be hard to mess up.
But...
The grilled cheese didn't have enough cheese to cover the bread, and it wasn't melted. Â The soup tasted like it came out of a can. Â We had two servers. Â The first was very surly, but was going off shift. Â The second was professional and attentive.
Oh well.
If i could give this place ZERO stars, I would. Went here last evening before the OSU-Cal game. We had planned to stay there (as well as spend a fair amount of money) to watch the game rather than braving the weather at Reser. However, we left because the service was so bad. In summary:
I was greeted, given menus and asked for my drink order right away by a gentleman from behind the bar. That was the LAST time anyone came to our table.
90 MINUTES LATER, we were still waiting for someone to come to our table to take our order. Finally my son went up to the bar to order a drink and food, and was told he would have to order with the server, who was standing there as well and assured him she would come to take our order. After another 15 minutes of watching her and another server wait on all the tables around us - even those seated long AFTER we arrived, i finally got up and asked the server (light brown kinky hair)  if she could take a moment to take our food order. I was met with a rude response: "we're really busy."  I said, "well we've been here over 90 minutes but would like to order drinks and food."  She replied, "we're really busy! i don't know what to tell you. what do you want?"  WOW. I asked if she could come to our table to take our order because my son wanted to order as well. Well, that made her REALLY mad. At that point we should have walked out, but we sucked it up and ordered. Upon giving her our initial order she said (rudely), "is that all"? We explained we would be ordering more but wanted to initially start with a salad. She just walked off. A few minutes later, she came by with my drink, slammed it on the table, and stormed  off once again. Oh, and then she went to one of her co-workers and very clearly started complaining to her about us. WOW AGAIN.  Yes, the place was initially busy when we arrived, but it had cleared out by the time i flagged down a server. Even then, we were ignored.
My son is the manager of a restaurant in Corvallis. After experiencing the non-existent service, and then a server who was horribly RUDE, he reached his breaking point. He said to me, "if that server worked in my restaurant and treated customers like she just did us, i would fire her. We're leaving". So, we left money on the table to pay for our drinks, walked out, and found another place where the service was at least courteous and timely.
I've never been ignored and treated as rudely  in any establishment as we were last night. i had heard the food was decent here, but we'll never know - because we'll never, ever, go back.
Before going to Reser Stadium in Corvallis for the OSU vs ASU game we stopped in at Tommy's for some food and drinks. As expected on a game day they were pretty busy but we found a table on the bar side in front of the big screen which had the Ducks game on. The service was good, and drinks were fairly stiff. Also the menu was full...they even serve breakfast all day (sweet). The only downer was that they didn't all that many options for vegetarians and virtually nothing for vegans (I wasn't shocked by this at all but it is nice when there is at least a few choices).
I have to mention that my friends and I felt like we were in the twilight zone a little because of the fact that while the ducks game was all people were actually routing for the ducks. Really? This is not right. When your in Corvallis at a OSU beavers bar you expect that people would not be routing for your rival. I guess weirder things have happened but this was up there on the crazy scale.
Great place for breakfast on Sunday morning after a Beaver football game.
The wait was 30 minutes because they were so packed, but the staff remained calm, courteous, and helpful the entire time.
You know how servers can get snippy when they're overwhelmed? Â Not at this place. Â Kudos to them!
The food was good too for our table of 9.
I've been to Tommy's numerous times for drinks but hadn't ordered anything to eat until last week.
I'll start with the bar area. It's nothing special, but it is spacious, has a pooltable (possibly two), and the staff are friendly. The drinks are pretty strong, which is definitely a good thing.
As for the food, I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a double cheeseburger with cajun fries. The burger was nothing to write home about, but it was still pretty good. The cajun fries, however, were delicious. Puts McMennamin's cajun tots to shame easily.
I look forward to going back and trying more things.
First thing I noticed was that the waitress was really occupied talking to another dude reading the paper, putting down other restaurants.
I ordered a Mountain Dew...for $2.50 -- it tasted NOTHING like a Dew, tasted a lot like a mix of Dr.Pepper and Pepsi with green food coloring, blegh!
Waitress later came out to where I was outside with a totally different attitude -- very pleasant to talk with and ask from, no issues whatsoever, maybe she was just having a rough day or something.
Burger w/ Fries was i'd say a dollar overpriced, but the waitress made up for the experience in the long run.
I will admit all the TV monitors around the area made it extremely convenient, especially outside, where I could watch the World Series and eat.
tl;dr -- Waitress struck out, then hit a home run later on in the game. Food hit a ground rule double.
Tommy's is the best breakfast place in Corvallis. It's a classic-American-style diner with good, regular service.
The food is good -- the bacon is delicious -- prices are reasonable, and the place is clean. I've been here several times, and can say the breakfast food -- skillets, eggs, ham, biscuits & gravy and the like -- will not let you down.
When people visit from out of town, and we want to go out for breakfast or brunch, this is where we go.
My boyfriend's a local and RAVED about this place so last night we went since we were in the area.
We both got the triple decker club. Â YUM! Â Awesome pepper bacon on it, and I got the Cajun fries which, as their name would lead one to believe otherwise, weren't that spicy. Â Which is good, because I'm an Irish potatoes-and-meat type girl. Â Spice makes me want to cry, but these were just the right balance. Â The waitress was super nice and friendly, the place looks amazing considering it burnt down and was re-opened recently. Â Excellent place for a quick bite and a low-key atmosphere.
Looks way better and cleaner and the set up is more organized since the rebuilding. The servers seem happier as well. We had fish and chips - big servings and better than the average. We shared a 3 piece and it was plenty for the two of us. If you have a very big appetite, order an extra side of fries.
Review Source:Giant portions, reasonably priced.
Many breakfast side options differentiate Tommy's from Shari's or other places; Notable is their pepper bacon (thick cut) which tempts this vegetarian every time.
Adorable older waitresses with bouffant hairdos. Lots of oldtimers and regulars.
As noted, the place burned about a year ago but should reopen soon (according to the paper).
I love Tommy's and hope they get the place up and running again soon. Â It looks like their renovations are coming along okay, but we haven't been able to visit since August 2009, before the fire. Â I wonder if the bar will be as interesting and funky as it once was or if the menu will remain as tasty and filling as it used to be. Â My favorite places to eat in Corvallis are mainly the diners, because they're cheap and delicious. Â It seems so many other places try to be ethnic or chic and fail; Tommy's, like the Peacock and Darrell's, does decent food right for a good price.
Review Source:Tommy's had a fire which destroyed the current incarnation of the restaurant and bar late last year. Â This was probably for the best as it was in desperate need of a rebirth. Â The service and food was only average and were on the decline. Â No one seemed to really care about this place until it was burned to the ground. Â Hopefully the owner takes some liberties, to not only renovate the building but also the offerings, when he rebuilds.
Review Source:The food is great, but it's slightly overpriced. Diner food should be cheaper, but their prices are comparable to a chain restaurant. Also, they charge you a $1 fee per entree if you order out, which doesn't make sense to me. That seems a bit expensive as well. The wait staff is friendly, but sometimes seem stressed out.
Review Source:Had a Cheeseburger with a salad and Cajun fries. Burger was okay, nothing special. Salad had pretty fresh lettuce and was decent. Cajun fries where pretty good. I've never had fries like them before. Prices where about $2-3 more than what i think the food was worth.
Service was decent, our waitress was having a bad day and was arguing with someone she knew that was at the bar. The place has a small town everyone knows each other type of feeling.
Overall nothing fancy, but has nice down home feeling.
