Here for a wedding and our friend who lives here recommend Tony's. I showed up after everyone had already been drinking. Sat with the crew and waited and waited and waited to be served. My friends were waiting for beer refills as well and eventually we said piss on it and left. We probably would have ordered food too. The bald guy was not up on his game I guess.
Review Source:Tony's is really just you basic dive type bar. Â I wouldn't call it full on dive bar, it's downtown and actually fairly nice inside. Â I usually find myself here most nights when I do go downtown. Â The drink prices are fair, the staff usually is decent conversation, and the vibe is really chill.
The only problem I have with tony's is when they have live music sometimes it can just be way to loud. Â They don't have music most nights so this isn't a problem. Â Oh& the Mac book DJ that plays there can get a little tired but just have a few more drinks and enjoy.
Tony's really DID make me feel like I was back in the Midwest!! Schlitz and PBR, fried walleye and cheese curds. The food was good bar food, nothing to rave about. Â The price. . .was not cheap but I don't feel it was overpriced, well, $7.50 seemed a bit steep for a small basket of fried cheese but it was tasty.
I doubt the fish was fresh but it was breaded nicely and crunchy on the outside. The coleslaw was good, although, a bit too sweet. The soft drinks are served in gigantic tumblers, huge!!!
The service was quick and friendly. There were only two waitresses but they were both everywhere. Â I noticed that every table was served quickly. My drink came to the table immediately after I ordered and our food came out in less than 10 minutes. Â If the service is always this quick, this would be a great place to come for lunch on a work day. Seriously fast.
I would not necessarily classify this as a true "dive" bar. Â It's a bar catering to those that want to say they hang out in dive bars but don't want to interact with the type of people that truly hang out in dive bars. Faux-dive bar, really.
I want to give this place four stars. Â It has all the makings of a great pub, but it just lacks in a few major regards. Â For starters, there is a different between blasting good music and practicing for torture based interrogations at gitmo. Â There is no need to have a dj blaring at concert level decibels on a week night, let alone in a pub. Â Also the set up is a bit clustered and congested. Â The food is decent for bar food. Â The real pick me up of the place though is the staff and the great prices on drinks. Â I will give it another chance, and hopefully lean for a higher rating, but seriously blasting shitty club music from 5 years ago wasn't even in vogue 5 years ago.
Review Source:Tonys is definitely my favorite bar in town. I get great service, always with a smile and I try to make it a ritual to come down on EVERY Sunday for a beer or 2....! Tony's has a big part in my "Sunday Funday" so much fun.
I am a HUGE Hockey fan and if you like hockey, there is no better place to watch a game in town. If I wanted to go somewhere to enjoy some company over a few beers and get good service, Tonys is the place to go.
Great bar! Â My kind of bar where people are who they are and do not care what you are wearing, who you are dating, what you are drinking...etc. Â A huge relief from the college bars down the way. Â Bartenders were friendly and social. Â And if you treat them well, they will do the same for you. Â Come in with an attitude and you're toast. Â LOVE IT! Â The pickled eggs are a great conversation starter and a great way to find out who can handle a challenge....55 cents worth of entertainment! Â I can't wait to stop back in on my next CO trip!
Review Source:I love this bar! Â I had been searching for a spot with friendly patrons and a simple menu. Â I was pleasantly surprised to find both AND an amazing Bloody Mary! It couldn't have been more delicious than if I mixed it myself. Â Burgers were juicy and the fries were crispy. Â Being a Packers bar I couldn't pass up the cheese curds which were equally tasty.
Review Source:I happen to love Tony's - decent bar food at a reasonable price, cheap beer, a divey and friendly atmosphere that makes drinking here a lot of fun.
It's noisy, loud, and not especially clean - but it's a great place to grab some beers and food with friends after work, on the weekend, or watching a game. It's also very reasonably priced - I once had two burgers and two pitchers of beer between me and a friend for 20 Dollars.
Best of all, it has some pretty fantastic beers on tap - like Pabst Blue Ribbon. Don't look for any upscale micro-brews or craft beers, but the old high-school college favorites for when we were too poor to afford anything decent are definitely there; and the price is still right.
Some reviews complain about the staff - I've never had problems, but then again some people are real dickbags to bartenders, and tend to get treated as such.
It's a dive bar, and is unfortunately saddled with loyalty to a shitty football team, but it's a lot of fun. The jukebox also offers some great choices. I'll definitely be back - again and again.
A word of warning - if the sight of a smug pretentious hipster drives you into an violent murderous rage - steer clear of Tony's.
Tony's is by far my favorite bar in town. Now that we have that bias out of the way...
If you're looking for a dive-ish bar then this is your place. It's got that dirty mid-west bar thing going for it without you having to fear for getting Hep-C from the last patron at your table.
The food is pretty standard bar food, but what do you expect? It fills you up and is tasty and most of it is probably fried. Besides, there's not that many places in Colorado Springs that you can get cheese curds anyway.
Service is hit or miss sometimes when they're busy, but I've never had a problem with getting a beer in front of me within minutes of walking in and sitting at a table.
My only complaint is that I wish when it is busy, there was just a bit more room to move.
If you're from North Central Wisconsin, it'll remind you of home. Go Packers.
Ambiance: Dive bar atmosphere, but in a good way. Fairly long bar with lots of stools, and also quite a few pub tables scattered around. If you get there on a busy night, you'll be standing. Crowd is friendly. Juke box is going to be hard rock, and if you dare select anything else, expect your selections to get overridden by the bartender (which isn't cool -- if you want a certain genre of music in your bar - get rid of the jukebox and just play what you want to hear!)
Service: Not very friendly. Kind of funny how so many 5-star raters acknowledge that, but does not seem to be an issue. Well, if I am paying good money and tipping well, I at least want a smile and a thank you. To me this is taking your clientele for granted (they will keep coming back regardless of level of service).
Food/Drink: Nothing special drink-wise, and the food is boring and ordinary. For good, greasy, cheap food, I'll take a two block walk to King's Chef on the other-side of Acacia Park.
Overall, I totally get the whole "Wisconsin" thing, and this place plays up to a certain clientele. Each bar has their own personality. Obviously, this place doesn't do it for me. For me the best and most fun dive bars are not located downtown, but are out in the neighborhoods of this city. Not a fan of Tony's, but to those who love it - rock on!
I returned to COS from Los Angeles three years ago and Tony's was the first place I hit. What can I say, it was walking distance from where I was staying and I just happen to love this place, but let's weigh the pros and cons.
Pro: Tony's never has a cover charge (probably due to the fact that they only get local cover bands to play)
Pro: They've got the best bar menu out there. Let's face it, when at a bar you can't expect the moon and the stars but Tony's delivers the kind of food you crave after a beer or two.
Pro: Great specials, for instance there is awesome Tuesday's where you can grab a hotdog, chips and beer for $2 - GTFOOH!
Pro: This place changes by the hour. You know how some places have a certain crowd to them? Well, Tony's is filled with everyone from the white collar business man to the lowly college student. Working professionals fill the place during lunch and happy hour but as early evening turns to night, a younger livelier bunch usually funnels in.
Pro: It's a beautiful space. I have this idea of what a neighborhood bar is supposed to look and feel like and Tony's is spot on.
OK, now for some cons:
Con: I agree with some of the earlier reviewers about the beer selection...it's a bit limited and lame.
Con: Again, in agreement with some other reviewers, the staff is not as friendly as other bars in town. I've been in this place A LOT the past three years and not a single bartender knows my name.
Con: Kids. I occasionally see kids in here enjoying an early dinner with their parents. I don't know why that bothers me but it does. Just because kids are allowed before 9pm doesn't mean you should bring them. Strollers in a bar = I hate you.
That's all I got - looks like the pros out-weigh the cons.
You want a dive bar? You got a dive bar.
Tony's is one of my favorites due to their great bar food (love for the cheese curds & mac 'n cheese) and friendly staff. Â It can be a crazy schmear of patrons on any given day of the week but everyone still has a good time.
Often Tony's will feature live music and they have a nice, fenced in back patio to chill on in the summer...which is even heated with a portable heater in the winter.
Tony's is Colorado Springs' worst bar. Most of the time. This time, though, it wasn't so bad. Thanks, Bartender Josh! We walk to Tony's every time it storms because it's the closest bar, and also because it's a tradition. Like another reviewer mentioned, and like I've ranted about before, the service is usually terrible. But this time, yesterday night, Tony's was the bar I wish it were all the time. A-plus. http://oinkety.com/?p=139
Review Source:This is one of the more crowded places downtown, also noisier. Â Their food is pretty good, although mostly unhealthy. Â They've got super spicy pickled eggs for fifty cents. Â The beers are super cheap. Â Our bill for two beers and two dinners was $20. Â I wouldn't want to hang out there all night, but it's definitely a good place to grab a bite to eat and have a drink or two.
Review Source:What can I say, it is what it is. Â It doesn't pretend to be anything else. Â They serve cheap beer and greasy food for cheap. Â I imagine the ok-ish service goes hand in hand with that. Â I guess if you don't want greasy food or PBR, then don't go here. Â It's just a good time, and I am determined that someday I will eat more than 16 pickled eggs, thus earning myself a place of honor on their menu. Â Kudos for the small smoking area out back, with a standing heater, so you can take your drink out with you to smoke. Â It makes it feel a little less like you are a total outcast who has to stand out front shivering in the cold.
My husband calls this "Blue collar heaven - unapologetically so."
Love, love, LOVE this bar. In fact, it's usually the only bar I hit up when I'm in town. I'm a little appalled by Stephen F.'s review, but I guess he's not a Wisconsonite-by-association as I am. Too bad, cause he's missing the point of Tony's!
What's Good About Tony's:
1.PBR on tap. Now, I am a beer snob through and through and typically would not touch the stuff, but when in Rome...
2. Tatoos- again, I don't have any, but I sure like to look at 'em
3. The sweet juke box. like could spend all night deciding on music because there are so many good choices
4. Tuesday nights. Nerd Bomb. Cover band of guys who used to do punk and now play anything from Portishead to Weezer. Gotta respect that.
5. Shots. The bartenders will drink them with you. Often give you free shots. COME ON (think Gob, Arrested Development).
6. Locals. And lot's of them. And drinkers, they are.
What's Bad About Tony's:
It's in Colorado Springs, not San Francisco. That sucks.
When a bar is the closest place to where you live you'll tend to give a it break on few issues but unfortunately Tony's has disappointed so many times I can't go here any more. What are the few issues...well let's start with the lame beer selection. I know they are trying to be a lowbrow neighborhood Wisconsin bar and do the PBR thing but it's not the 1950's anymore. The food is lame so eating here is out of the question. Â I could almost get around these issues if it weren't the kind of place where the staff couldn't care less about you unless they know you. And the last draw was the last time I went in there on a slow night filled the jukebox with a variety of tunes and sat down with a few friends only to notice the bartender override maybe 15 selections so they could play their stuff. I could have complained but they wouldn't have cared.
