Was here for lunch during a recent trip to Springfield. Since it was Taco Tuesday, my colleagues and I each ordered our plates loaded with an assortment of the 99 cent specials. All were authentic and delicious. Â The fresh chips and hot salsa kept us busy while our tacos were prepared. There are a number of Mexican places in Springfield. This one is definitely a must try.
Review Source:I was very pleasantly surprised at this unassuming mexican joint located in a strip mall in Springfield!
We came here with a big group of friends on a Sunday and they had recently expanded, so we were able to sit at a table with our entire group of 12 or so. Bonus points for accommodations. Almost immediately they put out some kind of bean soup for everyone as an appetizer, I suppose, along with chips and salsa. From what I gather, this was a Sunday special. Yay for free food!
Sadly, I can't remember what I had exactly, but I remember it had potatoes and egg and it was wonderful! The food seemed very authentic and certainly not something you'd normally get in a Springfield mexican place. The prices were also cheap from what I remember and I would definitely return.
I took off one star just because a few of our orders came out wrong. I don't remember it being a huge issue since we aren't really complainers, and we were a large group, but I would still be irritated if I didn't get what I ordered.
Twice a year, we get together with our extended family in Springfield, MO. While visiting in August, we were all in the mood for Mexican; so we looked on Yelp for recommendations. Perches Tortilleria looked promising; so we gave it a try. All 11 of us thought it was so good, we visited twice in one week!
Now it's December, and we're all back together and sitting at Perches Tortilleria eating a wonderful lunch.
Try Perches Tortilleria. You will not be disappointed!
I adore the staff. I feel like one of the family every time I'm there.
The food is excellent. They're accommodating of my special requests. Since I'm from California, I have a different idea of how I would like my food prepared than Springfield locals. This is by far the most authentic Mexican food you can get. Highly recommend their tamales, which are homemade I believe twice a week!
Our favorite place for Mexican food is Tortilleria Perches. Jesus, the owner, is always so friendly and greets us by name each time. If you are looking for authenticity, you will find it here. Hubby and I always order tacos or burritos with the pulled pork - the pulled pork is the most amazing meat there. Their green sauce is excellent and their salsa is great with their homemade chips. Tip: make sure to get to Tortilleria Perches on Tuesdays when they offer $0.99 tacos. It gets busy, so if you want to avoid the lunch rush, try to make it there between 10:00-11:30AM or after 1:30PM.
Review Source:I love this place! The chilaquiles are so good (the breakfast, with the fried egg on top). I never care about the beans and rice at Mexican restaurants but I always end up almost finishing mine here. The service is really friendly. Overall, my favorite Mexican restaurant in Springfield.
Review Source:Completely Authentic... No canned food here! Â This isn't Tex-Mex style that some are used to. Everything is homemade from the beans and tamales to the tortillas and menudo just like it has been since it opened seven years ago. Â It has now expanded to have more room for customers. They have also added a good selection of beer!
Review Source:The pulled pork taco was the best thing we ordered. Â The pork was incredibly tender and tasty. Â I couldn't stop picking it out to eat on its own.
The rest of our meal was just ok. Â The tilapia fish tacos looked good but had a strong fishy smell, something I've never encountered in a fish taco before. Â Some of our green salsa was still frozen. Â The carna asada was tough and strangely bland. Â Our rice and beans tasted great but were barely lukewarm.
But the pulled pork taco..... oh my. Â One extra star just for that.
Perches used to be great before it became the place the be for Mexican food.
Around that time, the management also decided that their profit margins were not big enough. But instead of simply raising the prices, they reduced the quality and the quantity of the food.
Also, make sure that you get your bill itemized and have the waitress write down the exact amount you are being charged. Our bill was always different even though we ordered exact same food every time. In fact, the main guy who checks you out is known to add extra items as several of my friends complained about that.
The shredded beef tacos were fabulous after I added a bit of salt and a squeeze of the provided fresh lime. The flour tortillas have a great texture and the meat was seasoned wonderfully. The atmosphere reminds me of restaurants in Mexico...tight quarters, loud music, and nice people. It's a fun environment to be in, great for friends and low-key dates. Â I would definitely recommend this to friends and I will visit this place again soon!
Review Source:I love this place. Â It is seriously one of my favorite places to go. Â The carnitas tacos are to die for. Â The tamales are perfect and the service and staff are wonderful. Â The chips are homemade and wonderful. Â If you are in the market for some tremendously awesome Mexican food you definitely need to try this place. Â You are missing out if you do not eat here.
Review Source:This place deserves no less than 5 stars. Have been to this hidden gem a few times now and I have been more than pleased each time. If this place were closer to my house I definitely be here more times a week than I'd like to admit that I eat out. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, the food is flavorful and authentic, and more authentic than any other Mexican place you will find in this area. There is nothing fancy about the looks of this place but don't be fooled! Eat here and you will never settle for mediocre Mexican food in this town again!
Review Source:My wife and I live in Kansas City, but we go here EVERY time we are in Springfield because this place has killer food!  Especially the tacos.  We always get the carnitas and barbacoa.  The only thing I would like tweaked  is the chips and salsa.  The chips are too thick for my liking. They are made from the homemade tortillas they make right there, which is awesome when it comes to the tacos and part of what makes them so good, but way too thick for chips.  And the red sauce needs to have less onion and more red to it, or tomato base.  The onion flavor is just overpowering. But the green sauce is really good and we just get that.
Anyway, come try the tacos here and I promise you won't regret it!
Excellent REAL MEXICAN food! Â Not that chain crap! Â The real deal! Â
The food is great, portions are always more than I can put away, and the staff and owner always make you feel welcomed. Â I have gone here four times and it has never disappointed me! Â I would take the harshest critique here hands down they would walk away happy. Â If you ever have had authentic Mexican food you'll love this place and keep coming back.
I wish I could keep this place to myself and friends but with food this good I have a moral and ethical obligation to tell as many people about it as possible. Â They make there own Tortillas for crying out loud! Â
Great selection of hot sauces, and seasonings for your food too. Â Love it!
I agree with Doug R, slap the Cielito Lindo fans and make them buy you lunch here!
This place is a hidden gem.
Walking in, we were greeted and welcomed in the friendliest fashion I've seen. Â I didn't feel like I was walking into a restaurant to grab a bite to eat, but that I was being welcomed into the home of a friend to enjoy a meal. Â A great first impression.
While I do prefer my tortilla chips a little thinner than what they have at Tortilleria Perches (my only-albeit small-complaint), the salsa which comes with them is very good.
The food here is authentic, fresh, and delicious. Â My girlfriend ordered enchiladas which were very good. Â I ordered chilaquiles and a shredded beef taco on the side. Â The taco was ridiculously good... nothing fancy... just good ingredients done simply and done well, just what cooking should be. Â The chilaquiles were the best I've ever had, and I've had some good ones over the years.
I regret not catching the name of the gentlemen who was there, but we talked a bit with him as we ate about our recent trip, the food on the menu, etc. Â I mentioned I had seen the albondigas (meatball soup) on the menu and a couple of minutes later he brought out a small sample meatball with some broth and veggies to sample. Â The veggies were all soft (but not mushy) and cooked perfectly. Â The meatball was delicious and provided the perfect texture to complement the vegetables.
The rice and beans which came with our meals were nothing short of amazing.
Simple 5-Star food with outstanding 5-star service. Â This is, by far, the easiest 5-star rating I've given to a restaurant... and at awesome prices. We'll definitely tell people, and be back again. Â I imagine as word of this place grows, it will become difficult to find a seat in the small restaurant.
AMAZING FOOD. Â It's very fresh REAL Mexican food. Â We get so sick of the "Tex Mex" stuff that Springfield tries to pass off as authentic.
The tortillas, chips, and salsa are my favorite part of eating here, but everything I've ever tried has been delicious!
We go almost every weekend! Â I can't get enough!
I really like good Mexican food. It is hard to find authentic stuff. A lot of people say they are authentic but they taste the same as the next place. Tortilleria is different. They make their tortillas, chips, tacos, and salsa from scratch. They also have daily specials that are truly authentic Mexican dishes. The server, Jesus, is super friendly and passionate about his food. It doesn't look like much when you walk up and in to the restaurant but the food is excellent. It is me and my wife's Friday ritual right now. It is definitely a must.
