Had a late lunch here yesterday. It was horrible! Tasteless bland and oily. We ordered chili rellenos for $12.95. We received two tasteless flat rounds things in a soup bowl with liquid around it that looked like water but was chicken broth! Wth? I didn't even see the pepper and can't even describe the taste as it was tasteless! Nothing else in the bowl! Wow. Are they kidding? Our waitress was great. We didn't want to complain but after we paid the bill we told her we would never come again and she said they changed the menu recently and a lot of customers are unhappy. Go for drinks, the bar is nice but don't spend $50 on horrible food. We should have gone to Mi Peblo. The appetizers we ordered were a joke. If you are used to Mexican food served on a large hot plate with fresh ingredients that will leave you satisfied do NOT eat here. Apparently they once had a good Sunday buffet brunch. Those days are gone. I would expect them to go out of business soon.

Judging from the other reviews I don't need to say much!  I've been going to this place for a few years and have have always had a so-so meal.  Today however, it was terrible and I will not go back. Don't like the new menu, not much to choose from and the portions are not worth the cost of the meal, no more combination plates.  Drinks are way over priced, fruit margarita was $7 and there might have been 1/2 an ounce of tequila in it, if that.  Meals no longer come with rice and beans, $4 extra for each.  Fajita were $12 if you want meat with your fajita, you guessed it...you pay extra.  Never heard of fajitas without the meat, oh well.  Waitress was very good and I have to admit that even though we had a party of 18 it didn't take very long to get our food. Like I said, I won't be going back.

Was a long time customer of tres hombres. Came in today after a while and found out that the menu had been changed. I asked our server where my old favorites went. Turns out there were 2 exec. Chefs hired and they changed the menu.

The worst part is the server told us that the old menu was not enough food for the price. I thought the prices were reasonable for my food. My favorite being the El Rey which was $10. Now if I want to get something similar because they do not offer the El Rey anymore would cost me $20!!! That's insane. They also increased the price for the guacamole by almost $2 verses the old price. And they didn't change anything with the guacamole.

Overall, I am very disappointed with this new "improvement". The prices have increased for in my opinion worse food. Bring back all the old prices and menu otherwise I see you loosing more customers. I will not be recommending Tres Hombres any longer...

I'll miss the old Tres Hombres.

    Farewell.

Ok so here it goes, my first bad Yelp review!

I have been to Tres Hombres probably 30+ times since it opened. I love the outdoor seating and the food used to be decent for non authentic Mexican.

I must admit I have not been here in the last year- something has gone terribly wrong!!! I took my mom here because I felt she would like the ambiance of a cleaner upscale place and that the food would be good as usual. Wrong, I should have gone to Mi Pueblo or the taco truck.

The rundown:  3 Diners in my party- we ordered

    Chicken Enchiladas - No cilantro
    Chicken Fajitas
    Carnitas Dinner

BTW now we were told Rice and/or Beans would be extra. The spiel is that now the protein portion of the dinners are larger rather than filling plates with rice and beans. Seriously a Mexican platter dinner with no rice or beans. OK ordered rice and beans for two to share for $4 and one more order of rice for $4 or close to it.

    Dinner arrives: Breakdown by meal

Fajitas- a large amount of peppers and onions and actually less chicken than their old non a la carte dinner used to have. Not a lot of flavor going on either. Came with 3 teaspoon sized servings of guac, sour cream and pico.-on a big plate to accentuate how small a portion given.

Chicken Enchiladas- Two cold little enchiladas in cold bland sauce. Sent back to warm up. Came back with new enchiladas a few minutes later that were also cold. The sauce was luke warm at best. 3 small slices of avocado as the only garnish unless you count the cilantro sprigs that were requested to be left off but never were.

Carnitas- Good portion of meat but no more than what used to be given prior to paying extra for beans and rice. Just a smaller plate with radish, onion, some chopped tomatoes that I think were supposed to be pico de gallo, sprigs of cilantro and pickled jalapenos from a nacho jar. Meat was barely warm if you could call it warm. Not in any juices of any kind and a very bland flavor- supposed to be in a citrus marinade- no hint of that.

Rice and Beans on side plates- Rice was dry and old tasting with the only flavor being cumin. Beans (refried) were bland with a pea sized dab of cheese pressed into middle. Served...you guessed it...barely on the warm side of cold on a plate.

Our Poor Waiter try as he did to convince us, and maybe even himself a little, that the new menu was a good thing, I'm not buying it. I asked him what has happened? He stated that they have 2 new executive chefs who have changed the menu and maybe the staff is still working out the kinks. Well no kinks there- bad food is bad food! Executive chefs?! Where from?! Get rid of them...seriously.

Wow--might take a miracle for me to go back despite the great outdoor patio.

INEDIBLE!!  WORST FOOD !!  WASTE OF MONEY!!

I felt bad for our waiter because he had to apologize over & over for our crappy food.

    1. Stale chips
    2. Old & poorly made rice
    3. Cold food (asked for a re-heat & 2nd plate cold also)
    4. No flavor
    5. Teaspoon size guacamole & salsa  accompanied my fajita platter which was greasy, tasteless & lacking meat .
    6. Retried beans were nasty.

The waiter had informed us that the new executive chefs were "re-vamping the menu" & "working out the kinks" NONSENSE!! These were basic cooking skills that were missing .

This is my first rant , I normally only post the most excellent meal experiences. However felt compelled to WARN everyone not to eat here . REALLY BAD!!

    NEW CHEFS NEEDED HERE !!

I've tried two times to get in for their Sunday brunch.  I've called for reservations and been told they don't take reservations for less than 6 people, however there is NEVER a wait.  Got there and was told there was a 45 minute wait.  Tried again a couple weeks later and again told there was at least a 40 minute wait.  Not going to try again.

The new fish tacos on Taco Tuesday suck!  I guess they got a new chef.  Also, the service was so slow.  It took 20 minutes to get our first beer and we would've ordered another beer but couldn't find our server.  No more Taco Tuesday for my crew and I.

I have been going to Tres for a long time and used to really love it! We recently stopped by for dinner (we moved out of town so I am not sure how long the changes have been for) and was very disappointed. They changed their entire menu, which is very tiny, and super greasy compared to their old one. Nothing healthy what so ever (a few lame salad options). I ordered the Chile Rilennos hoping it would be decent, and it was incredibly greasy (so was everyone else's order). I would have went to Mi Pueblo if I wanted real Mexican food (done well!). My husband ordered a burrito and the rice was under cooked (it was still hard). My MIL had a salad a few days before, and thought it was done okay, then when we went back it was terrible (this may come down to the cook that night). Not so sure what is going on, but the new menu is terrible! The service has always been hit or miss. But the bar is usually pretty reliable depending on who is bar-tending. It is kind of sad, this place used to be awesome. Not so much anymore. Plus, the table next to us found something in their food, can you say disgusting?

My wife and I entered the restaurant right about the time it opened at 11:30am.  Once inside, we were greeted with profanity-laden hip hop blaring from the sound system.  The bartender came over and apologized for the music, claiming that they were not yet open, though people had already been seated and we were inside.  After that we noticed the updated menu with fewer items and an obvious price increase (which is most always the reason for a menu revision).  We waited for about five minutes before someone brought us some chips and salsa, then asked if we would like a menu.

After our order was taken, it took a VERY long time for the food to be delivered to our table.  My fish tacos were fine and my Wife's quesadilla was good as well.  However, I wish I could show the size of the limes on my plate!  They were tiny!  Had I worked at the restaurant, I would have been embarrassed to serve them with a meal.  I took a picture next to a fork for perspective, but alas cannot attach the photo to this diatribe.

Bottom line, the food was very overpriced, small portions (for mexican food, really?), and the service was poor.  The server had the audacity to bring back a five dollar bill on my change tray.  You are unhinged if you think your service qualified you for a five dollar tip on a $25 meal.  There are so many Mexican food restaurants in the area that serve better food at a cheaper price.   Unfortunately, they don't have the outdoor patio of Tres Hombres.  A patio I will no longer enjoy.  I give the restaurant another year before it goes under.

We have gone to this restaurant several times because we want to like it but it is terrible. The location is convenient and great for our son as we can sit outside and he can play around the fountain but the service is terrible! Every time we go there we are seated for at least 20 minutes before greeted by a server, EVERY TIME!! After the initial wait, it's another 30 to 40 minutes for your food and if you going to order a drink from the bar you might as well order a few at a time because they take just as long as the food. I could see there being a wait if we were going at prime times but we are not.
The food is not good enough for this kind of wait. Three strikes, we're done with this place.

This place used to be really good when it opened but it has since gone downhill steadily over the last 3 years.  Our recent visit today was very subpar, chicken taquito, sopes, and empanada were, truthfully, terrible.  The taquito meat was dry, hard and bland, the empanada tasted like a cheap frozen thing, and the sopes were edible but bland and had only beans, sour cream and a tiny bit of quacamole.  All was very bland, dry, with the only seasoning being a vague spicy heat wioth no real flavour or character.  Staff was friendly but service was exceedingly slow and ineffecient.  Menus were dirty and dilapidated and the menu content has changed from before, generally for the worse.

I actually though that I had reviewed this place before, and based on our first couple visits about 3 or 4 years ago, we would have given it about 4 out of 5.  On our last visit, it was about 3, but this last visit was about 2 to 2.5, so that's the score I'm giving it now.

This area was overrun with loud obnoxious folks partying during Petaluma Butter and Egg days.  Even though the place was packed tight, the wait staff still found a spot for us to dine outside where all the action was happening.  Bob and I shared a dinner plate of fish tacos (salmon) and I'd have to say they were much better than I had expected.  The fish was done w/out being overdone, the pico de gallo was fresh and the guacamole smooth, fresh and flavorful-black beans and rice completed our meal!  We ordered cocktails and lingered awhile since we'd been on our feet ever since we hit town and needed a good sit-down!  Chips and salsa were served almost immediately and the wait staff had a great attitude for the amount of folks they were serving; they were very kind and friendly-kudos guys, I don't know if I could have been so accommodating considering the circumstances.  The cocktail bar was set up outside; I'm assuming due to the event...I was a bit dissapointed when our drinks arrived in plastic cups....I ordered a margarita on the rocks and really, salt does not stick to a plastic cup rim....other than that everything was just fine!

This review is only for Mother's day

Went here with a group of 10 for the Mother;s day brunch. it was fantastic, the food was fresh and hot, service was friendly and efficient, price was good. Great selection of dishes to choose from, of course the basics but also some Mexican foods, chilled salmon and oysters, waffles and french toast, plus unlimited champagne. They did a nice job of keeping everything filled up, never ran out of anything

    Will be coming back soon

Went here for dinner and drinks with another family on a Friday night.  Service and food were excellent.  We had 4 adults and 4 children, the staff promptly put together tables and seated us within a minute.  I asked the server for recommendations and wasn't disappointed.  Great Margaritas too.  Everytime I have been there the service and food have been as good as it gets.

I'm so surprised to see the low reviews of Tres Hombres. I think the food and service are great, I've never been disappointed. And more importantly, I think the people are great. I work for a local nonprofit and Tres has supported our events for the last three years - and they continue to. Definitely a local business worth supporting.

Champagne brunch is pretty nice. Still really expensive even with a groupon. Had to drink a few extra bottles of cheap champagne to make up the difference in price... I guess that's not that bad of a thing for a lazy Sunday.

I took a roadtrip down here with my friend on a Sunday. She had a Living Social deal for their brunch, it had me at unlimited mimosas. I've never seen a place so chaotic. Their brunch was all you can eat, buffet style. The food was pretty decent. Eggs Benedict, potatoes of all kind, and even oysters. I usually don't expect much from buffets but none of it looked disgusting. I don't know what the food is like for the sit-down area so I can't review on that. But the place was packed so there's got to be something that keeps people coming back right?

Don't usually take the time to leave Yelp review, so either has to be *really good* experience for me to do so, or *really bad*, and in case of Tres H. it's unfort the latter :(

So I bought Groupon for "weekend" all-can-eat brunch buffet. #1 they didn't specify 'Sunday only' so I drove up there like half hour from home on Sat. (last I checked 'weekend' comprised of Sat. AND Sunday, yes?) and snotty hostess jumped down my throat and said 'that's only good for Sunday' to which I responded 'it doesn't say anywhere 'just Sunday ' it says 'weekend' - are you saying you won't honor the Groupon value right now? I just drove 30 min. to get here? Can I please speak to the Manager' Her response = 'I *am* the Manager' (I think she was lying) and 'absolutely not.' I left.

So I returned again on a Sunday this time and approached same snotty hostess and while the place was a bit crowded, I could clearly see multiple open tables and nobody waiting and I said I have Groupon for 'Sunday' brunch and she replied: "oh ok - it's gonna be about an HOUR AND A HALF wait" WTF??! What a brat!! So I immediately responded 'can I sit at the bar?' to which she responded 'um yeah, I guess you can sit at that bar...' HA! the brat was outsmarted!! ;) I sat at bar and got my free brunch.

I'll def NEVER be back and tell all my friends to NEVER go here - this hostess (Manager??) is KILLING your biz Tres!! too bad the food isn't half bad...

I went there for brunch today after calling earlier in the week to inquire about reservations. I was told it wasn't necessary for two people.  When I got there I was told it would an hour and 45 minute wait unless I wanted to eat at the bar. She informed me that they do not take reservations for two I checked the bar and there was no availability and no one was moving anytime. In the meantime I had left my name with the hostess,    I am still waiting for my phone call to tell me my table is ready!!!  Make room for two !!!  Everyone who came in behind had the same request and they didn't know how to make room for two yet they had plenty of tables open for five!!!

No! I had to take photos so people wouldn't think I was making up how bad the food and service was. Empty chafing dishes with signs of what was supposed to be in them. No plates for the crappy congealed food that was there. I was appalled . I used a groupon and realized that you couldn't pay me to go through that experience again. I guess they pay the overhead with the drinks, because it sure ain't their food.

so i went here for dinner with my girlfriend. i love their food, but the bartender (maybe the manager?) was talking to the limo driver of a party about cutting off the girl and the guy that were drunk in the group.

it was very unprofessional to talk like that in front of customers that are eating a the bar and did not make my GF feel like he was a good "server" for the evening.

the food was spot on, but the atmosphere and overall attitudes of the employees were meh.

Nice atmosphere, full bar with lots of tequila's, but food was not very good.  Once went for taco night and fish taco tasted like frozen fish deep fried and dropping in tortilla with lettuce.  Bleh.

I would go for a drink, but not interested in the food and it was pretty pricey.

    Service was fine.

I took my mother for Sunday brunch a couple of weeks ago. I didn't have a reservation but we were still seated within 10 minutes. The service was a little slow but very pleasant.

While the food was very good, many items were already sold out by 10:30, with no plans for restocking the buffet. When I questioned the server he said it was common to run out early  Too bad because I was really looking forward to the oysters.

I might give it one more try...I'm not sure yet.

A great place for specialty tequila, drinks with friends or colleagues, and  Giants games at the bar. Minus two stars for the food (mediocre and non-traditional Mex) and the sometimes less than stellar service.

We've been here before for lunch, and recently went because we had bought a Groupon for the brunch they have on Sundays. We enjoyed it the first time and were pleased when we went the second time as well.

The crowd for the Sunday brunch is huge, and you want to make reservations. I'm surprised reading the bad reviews. The servers we had were actually great; very pleasant and helpful, and the food served for the brunch was excellent. I love the atmosphere of the place, but we always sit outside, so I can't speak to the inside ambiance.

    We will go back soon!

This place was disappointing!  The Food was GROSS!  How about some greasy, oily refried bean, bland shredded chicken nachos??  Or a $17.00 watered down Margarita?  We had a pork burrito, and fish tacos as well, the fish and the pork were both super dry.  Total bummer.
Service was ok, there was us and 2 other tables, could of been a little better.   Maybe theres better things on the menu or the bartender didn't make a good drink that night, however I don't think I will give it a second try.

Drinks here are actually good, but the service is so weird. Awkward and uncomfortable. Food is Ok but not great... We asked if the table could be fixed because it was wobbly, and the guy looked at us like we were crazy and walked away singing....Literally. Loudly singing. Then he turned around and came back....awkward silence ensues.  I told him if he just gave me a napkin that I could do it, but he said that would just be a waste of a napkin. Then he offered us a different table. Ok, awesome, finally a solution. Then ten minutes later a foursome sat at our previously abandoned wobbly table, and a minute later said American Idol wannabe was under there, fixing it. What am I, chopped liver?
I wish this place was awesome... but its not.

Me and my wife have gone here many times.  The food is great and we have never had an issue with service. We ran an event there last night in one of their rooms, there was 16 of us and we had no probems with the service. I have to agree with what Jonathan H. posted in that you have to be mindful of how busy they are.  EVERY restraunt slows down when it gets busy.

I think you would be missing out if you don't at least try the place yourself. And on Sundays all you can eat buffett with free mimosas and champagne for 20 bucks an adult.  I would say that is darn good.

    Really bummed!!
I used to love Tres Hombres! My mom and I finally had a night to go to dinner and it was beautiful outside so we decided to go to Tres! We walked in and were helped immediately from a guy working in the bar. He sat us outside right away!

We sat chatting about our day and 10 or more minutes later we looked up and realized all this time had gone by and NO One had yet to ask us about drinks or even say "I'll be right with you". We watched as a manager was helping another new table. We got up to leave and finally a waitress came up and asked if we wanted to sit inside. Nope! We told her what happened and her excuse was they are short staffed. Sorry, I've worked in the restaurant business for 10 years, my mom longer, and that was extremely POOR customer service!!

We left and made our way to another restaurant!! On my way I called the restaurant to speak to a manager, knowing the server would not say a word to her boss. I asked for the manager and waited on the phone for 4 minutes and no one ever came back to the phone so I gave up! This is the second time my mom and I were treated like this here so we won't be coming back! It's  unfortunate this once great restaurant will lose a lot of customers :-(

With the bevy of great Meixican restaurants in Petaluma, Tres Hombres doesn't even enter the category of "Mexican" or even "Mexican American" cuisine, much less cuisine for that matter.
I have eaten here on numerous occasions (unfortunately work parties) and have only been impressed by one thing:
    their tequila.
Which is not saying much since they don't make it.
But hey, at least it's consistent, unlike their food.
When you pay $14 for a hanger steak with roasted red potatoes, you are not expecting dry, un-crispy potato chips....very poor.
Save your money and time, go a couple blocks up to Mi Pueblo, or Playa Azul, or heck, even a Taco Truck.

It's petaluma.  for those of you that need more of an explanation:

No class, weak drinks, bar food.  See, it's petaluma!

Went here the other night and ordered a round of drinks for my friends, bartender lady says "if you're ordering 5 drinks I need 5 IDs before I can pour them."  Say what?!  this is the point where I ask myself why I come to petaluma...okay okay lady I will go get you your five frikkin IDs.....

    weak drinks.

Skip this place and go to thai issan down the street.  Super nice bartenders with an ex rated cocktail menu and serves yummy thai until 1 am!!  yum.
