I stumbled upon this spot, and want to make it THE spot. Â During the day, the Black Sheep is a cheese and picnic shop with wine and cheese paraphernalia galore. Â The owner is a DOLL who is passionate about food, cheese and WINE. Â
At night, the place transforms and magic happens. Â It is an experience for foodies and wine-os and newbies to the food/wine experience.
During the day, picnic foods to go, cheeses, crackers, sandwiches, salads, wonderful pastries. Â At night, its a sultry seductress for the dusk senses. Â And served with the charming and warmth of its owner.
A true wine bar.
Candle-lit, inside and out, 2012 is the second season for this little spot (and I hope it gets more seasons under its belt!)
Pros:
Great wine list available by the glass, bottle or flight. Â
Incredible selection of cheeses for every palette - and cute names too boot! Â
Totally cute on the inside (A drift wood chandelier? Â Loved it!) Â
Not crowded at all - even at 8pm on a perfect-weather Saturday in August; sat right down. Â Friendly, attentive service. Â
The most incredible complimentary noshes: olive tampanade and this herbed-olive oil dip. Â I would marry that olive oil dip if I could. Â
Affordable: Â Each cheese plate ranged from $14-$20 each. Â We ordered two plates for 6 people and had plenty to enjoy!
Cons: Â
Wine only. Â No beer. Â No other booze. Â
Tons of cheese and charcuterie, but not much else. Â
Such a romantic ambiance - except for the shelves of Food Should Taste Good chips in the back room, and soft-drink fridge in the front (do they double as a deli during the day?)
Bathroom opens directly into the backroom-seating (just keep the door closed, otherwise half the table gets a view they may not enjoy).
Depends on your circumstances, pro/con:
Not for the kids.
If you're cholesterol isn't too high, great for killing the wait time for your main-course table to be ready, or make a meal out of the lipid-heavy tapas here!
