Truants Taverne

First of all, our waitress was rude right off the bat when my friend ordered a drink and tried to show her his ID because it was a temporary paper one. She immediately stated "I can't take that!" in a pretty rude tone. I was surprised though that she then brought it to the back to show someone else. But she came out stating it was unacceptable. I understand it's a temporary piece of paper and not a laminated ID card, but it is issued by the state, and you have no choice but to use that when they take away your old license! Aside from all that, we've been legal to drink for oh, um, 10 years. And we haven't had that problem in any other place. The food was not good anyway. He ordered a burger, medium, and it came out tasting like charcoal, despite being slightly pink inside. My soup was gross. And the soda we were told was "coke" was clearly just a generic cola, and flat on top of that. Awful awful awful.

We've been coming here during trips to the mountains for more than ten years, so I'm disappointed to have to downgrade my rating. The service is still good -- at least when it's not overcrowded -- and the atmosphere is pleasant, particularly the patio seating during the summer. Unfortunately, the food has been mediocre the last two times. I've had salmon and baked haddock, my wife a vegetable stir fry. It's been ok, but at this point there are simply better options around.

Ok, I am from Massachusetts and was recently vacationing in NH and we decided to give Truant's a try based on some recommendations from friends.  I am glad that we did!  We arrived earlier in the evening, so we were fortunate enough to be seated right away.

We had some steamers as an app and they were excellent, then I had a full rack of ribs and they were falling off the bone and very meaty.

This definitely a pub style restaurant and great for the whole family, we will be visiting again when we are back in NH.
