Worst service in my life! I do not even want to give this place 1 star! The owner is rude and obnoxious and I can see how difficult he makes it for his workers behind the line. I felt uncomfortable and nervous the entire time I was there. Boycott this place! Owners should not be allowed to get away with treating their customers like crap!
Review Source:There are good hot dog places all over the north shore and Chicago - especially with Vienna Beef being located here in Chicago. Â So sometimes what sets a place apart is the ambiance, other menu items, staff and sometimes it's the owner. Â In the case of U Dawg U - they have it all! Â
The owner, Rob, is always there, is always friendly and treats us like old friends.
The hot dogs are awesome. Â As is everything else we have tried there. Â Especially there specials. Â The special fish sandwiches they offer are great.
I can't say enough about this place, the owner and the staff! Â What a great addition to Northfield!
Good hot dogs. Vienna dogs. Toppings were good, maybe a little too much celery salt.
The fries were the crinkle cut type that I like. They were cooked just right!
It's clean inside and a lot of tables.
The price is a little high for a couple of dogs, fries, a drink. Over 8 dollars.
People were nice and enthusiastic !
I will probably return when I'm in the area.
Being in the area, I was informed of all the New Trier High School (East, West, Northfield, WInnetka) legends. There are jerseys, autographed Wheaties boxes and photos, plus pictures of old NTHS basketball teams. This place feels like a great local "joint" that all the locals migrate towards for typical divey food.
I kept it simple going with the Chicago Style Hot Dog. The person I met with on this sweltering day (100 degrees+) went with the double cheeseburger with cheddar. He said the cheddar made it fantastic. My hot dog was awesome because I got it "char grilled" which was the special for the day. I got two cookies to go because they looked so SOFT and CHEWY! They also have brownies, but I don't like brownies that much (food not the brown people Viva La Mexico).
Two gripes about this place. It is SO HOT in there. The hot dog was good, but the bun was soggy. The reason I ordered a char grilled dog is because I wanted to avoid the soggy bun! The line moves fast, but they are a bit overpriced for my liking!
I GUESS THAT IS WHAT YOU GET ON THE NORTH SHORE! If you want a quick, kind of expensive, but doable hot dog at a divey joint, go here. If I am ever back in the area I think I will go with a burger. I'd take Portillo's or Smokehouse in Wheaton over this place. I guess that's just the Western Suburbs bias I have.
This is pretty much my family's favourite weekend lunch spot. They have fantastic burgers and dogs which are not at all greasy like some other places, but juicy and just delicious.
The place is spotlessly clean, and has good friendly service.
The only negative thing I can think of is that it can get a bit noisy.
We will be coming back a lot.
This fast food is 5 stars alone... Great Chicago Hot Dogs and Italian Beef Sandwiches! The ingredients are fresh and there are plenty of healthy options if you are looking for such (turkey sausage, fantastic salads, etc). Â
However what really makes this place special is the owner Rob... He remembers customer's names, works hard to ensure everyone gets exactly what they wanted, and remains incredibly friendly! The other quick food joints could learn a thing or two from U Dawg U.
Ever since the death of fRedhots, I've been looking for another dealer for my occasional lunchtime hot-dog fix. Â U Dawg U wins the election--but not because of their hot dogs. Â I wasn't aware of them until recently, but I've been going regularly, trying a lot of the menu which ranges from the traditional burgers-and-dogs-joint fare to nice changes of pace such as wraps, a turkey polish sausage, and a decent barbecue chicken salad. Â Sadly, there is no alligator sausage or reindeer dog on their menu, but that might be asking a bit too much.
The hot dogs come out of a warming pan and feel a little soft. Â Everything else is cooked to order, including a perfect polish and a solid bratwurst.
The turkey burger is a little dry but otherwise solid. Â The italian beef tastes great and is NOT dripping wet like some places serve it. Â (My dainty hands appreciate that.) Â The fried salami sandwich...well, let's just say that there are few pleasures in life as simultaneously sublime and deadly as a fried salami sandwich with mustard and grilled onions. Â Like the owner/manager said to me on the way out that day, "You can't do that every day, but it sure is great." Â Correct and correct, sir.
The people are extremely helpful and welcoming. Â I think that they might be starting to recognize me, but in truth, the service seems to be just as warm whether you are a regular or a first-timer.
Both the french fries and the sweet potato fries are perfectly cooked but sometimes leave a slick feeling in my mouth. Â I wonder what kind of frying oil they are using. Â It's turned me off the fries, but as a side-dish alternative, you can get corn OFF the cob (seasonally). Â Just add a little butter, salt, and pepper if the corn isn't quite sweet enough yet. Â And their fried mushrooms are some of the best around, not salty or too greasy and stand up well on their own, or you can use the slightly tangy white sauce that comes with.
On top of everything else, they make a mean chocolate malt. Â I took that as a second choice when they didn't have the right ice cream to make a strawberry shake. Â Sacrifices.
In any case, these guys will go into the regular lunch rotation despite the longer-than-desirable drive from my office location through the congested Willow Road corridor.
I just went for the first time...the cheese fries, served in an overflowing cup with a fork, were delicious. The hotdog with everything was great and piled high, except for the pickle, which was covered in celery salt, I love celery salt but this was overkill. I have faith and will be giving it another try...
The atmosphere is sporty but a little sterile and the people behind the counter are loud and talkative, not my thing, but it might be yours..at least they aren't rude.
I grew up in Skokie and was a habitue of U Dawg U when it was in Village Crossing, so naturally I was thrilled to see a new location open just a few blocks from my office. Â Rob and his staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the food is great! Â I haven't been disappointed in anything I've ordered, but I have to say my favorite things are the char grilled Polish and their cheese fries. Â U Dawg U is definitely a great addition to the Northfield area.
Review Source:great hot dog joint
get the chicago dog and enuff said.
They use vienna beef which is my favorite for a hot dog place and trust me we needed a place like this in northfield.
Burgers everywhere else were 10 bucks, and this is what a joint should be..good, clean fast food that everyone loves
A great addition to Northfield with a diverse menu for a traditional Chicago Style Deli (Hamburgers and Hot Dogs for out of towners). The Italian Beef was lean and not at all greasy, a nice departure. My wife had a tuna melt which was very good. Â They have an extensive heart healthy menu, which includes a turkey polish. Â I'd definitely like to try that next time. It was buzzing on the Saturday afternoon we went with our brood for lunch. Two flat screens to watch whatever your game is was also a nice touch. Â There was an upstairs area that seemed perfect for parties.
