I went to Uncle Joe's Bronzeville for the first time. Â The decor was great. Â The Reggae band was good. Â There seemed to be a thriving take-out business but, the dining-in business seemed meager. Â I was very disappointed because I had to wait so long to get my order. Â Once, I received my food, I was again disappointed. Â The jerk chicken was so hot that I could barely eat it. Â I know that there is better Jamaican food. Â I think that I would recommend somewhere else to eat.
Review Source:"I came here for the second time expecting great food like my 1st visit. I was greatly disappointed. I am a native of Jamaica and know what the food is suppose to taste like, etc. I ordered the whole jerk chicken dinner and what I got was not a whole chicken but mostly breast! We waited for 30mins for a take out order, & when the food came you know the food was microwaved as the styrofoam box was scortched. (I waited 30mins for them to microwave my food)
When we finally got our order I asked the waitress for an additional box, she told me that would be an extra charge & walked off. When she came back I expected her with the box, but her hands were empty. I asked her how much it cost, & she said $1.00! Really? So, if I had dine-in & asked for a to-go box, that would be a dollar charge too?
I'm not trying to bash this restaurant, but the service reflects badly on the managers, the owners & Jamaica. Y'll need to revamp your employee training because it's obvious that you are loosing customers to sloooow & poooor service."
PS What's up with the jambalaya style rice & peas?? Cool down on the salt too...
I love jerk chicken, so decided to try this place.
It was ok, but I was not overly impressed at all.
My friend and I wanted all white meat and they would not serve it to us. They said they were rationing it out. I said I will pay extra, whatever you want, as we will not eat the dark meat. Still--no all white meat! Â This was on a Saturday night around 8:30 and there were ONLY 2-3 other tables of people eating. The only thing I could think of is 1) they were low on inventory or 2) they were low and a large chunk of their business is take out. Â
I mean really, how are you not able to sell someone all which chicken if they want to pay for it? Chicken is your specialty!!?? Especially, when you can see the place wasn't even busy! The meat itself was pretty good though.
The cabbage was good, though I thought the portion was on the smaller side (smaller than Ja Grill in Lincoln Park) and the flavor wasn't balanced. Â I got frequent "bursts" of hot flavor that at times was irritating. Â For the food and atmosphere, I would rather make the trek up to Ja Grill on armitage. I heard the one in Hyde Park was better, so would give it another try at that location.
