iLife this place. The bartenders are quick and happy to be there. They have cheap drinks and strong ones! Â The only bad thing is their small selections of draft beers. The music is hip hop mostly with a small dance floor. Wednesdays are Word Wednesdays, $5 to get in, but you get a drink ticket for a beer or well. You an rap, sing, act, whatever you want.
Review Source:V Bar is sort of bizarre. Â It felt like a bar that was suffering from an identity crisis. Â The outside of the bar with its modern, sleek blue logo didn't jive with the blood-red sponge-painted walls. Â None of it seemed to make sense with the Star Wars cartoons that were playing on the TV. Â And the crowd was eclectic to say the least. Â
The drinks were okay (but not great), and the seating left something to be desired. Â The booths and seating areas would suggest intimate conversation, but the loud music didn't really allow that type of conversation to take place.
Overall, I sort of felt like I was hanging out inside a dark, spongy...let's just say I'm thinking of something that starts with "V" (like the bar) and rhymes with angina. Â Ew.
When I first moved back to Colorado from Chicago, I went into nightlife shock. I mean there is no nightlife here. For me, Bar V is probably the closest thing to a city bar but in reality it's just a small dive bar that has a DJ with no dancefloor, a small drink selection and a few pretty bartenders that were most likely hired because of their looks over their mixology talents.
A couple things...
1. The beer selection is bad... Care for a Corona? Goodluck finding rare imports here
2. You need to actually sit at the bar to get service. They have other tables but you'll get a round maybe every hour if you're lucky.
3. They've attempted to go trendy with the absinthe fountains but they need better fountains and a better way to serve it. If you don't want to make my absinthe all flashy then let it drip and go away. I don't need you smashing my sugar cube and being all awkward.
4. Expensive price for C Springs but really cheap compared to a bigger city.
Is it "V Bar", as the locals call it, or "Bar V", as Yelp calls it, or is it "Bar Five", as the Romans would call it?
It's dark, and until you've paid off the waitstaff enough to care about your existence, the service stinks. More of a meat-market feel than either Rendezvous, Cedars or 15C, I tend to shy away from any place that feels the need to check IDs at the door.
Nuff said.
The one bright spot (although it's hard to see anything inside) is the local art adorning the walls inside. Go for the art, but unless you're looking for a one-night stand (and admittedly, there is sometimes a need for places like this), head to one of the other aforementioned lounges instead.
To be fair, I've only been to Bar V once (yeah, that was last night). But listen, it was great!
The drinks were well-made. The bartenders were friendly and low-key, cool yet unpretentious, which I feel is synonymous with the bar in general.
A classic black and white John Wayne movie was playing on the (muted) televisions. The seating is very cool looking and also very comfortable. Bar V is possibly a little darker than other bars, but I had no trouble seeing the friends I was there with, as another Yelper complained. The music - both when it was a bartenders ipod and when there was a DJ - was fantastic.
What really "seals the deal" for me is the ambiance and crowd Bar V draws. Bar V is NOT the place to go if you want to scope out freshly gel'd dudes and skimped out chicks, and/or feel up your partner on the dance floor. Nor is it a hole in the wall. It is the place to go if you want quality drinks (I have not had a better mojito in my life, ever), great staff (I have also never had a better bartender than Ivaldo, ever) and an upbeat but relaxed atmosphere. Bar V does not front. Please go to the Ritz for fronting. :-)
What's missing? Nothing, that's what! I wonder how I've been here a year and never been in Bar V. I'm definitely going back next time I'm downtown.
this is one of my favorite little bars. it has a swanky, dimly-lit, martini bar atmosphere. there is local art showcased on the walls. and if Ryan still tends bar there, the drinks are strong and most likely his ipod is hooked up to the stereo and he has delicious musical taste. i have also, on occasion, been pleased to find a dj posted up by the front window.
Review Source:The V Bar on South Kiowa is your faux upscale establishment, which specializes in over-priced drinks and no seating.
It does have a nice sort of lounge atmosphere with low feet lighting and neon-colored running lights all over the place and I suppose the people here are better than other bars, but still...this place has nothing outstanding about it, expect for maybe the free parking lot next to it.
Head over to Jack Quinn's instead
