The ONLY thing this place had going for it was the fact that it was the last remaining bar in which they could drink and smoke and now the owner changed it to non smoking. I'm thinking they lost a lot of their usual customers because of that. If people want to go outside and freeze so they can smoke they will just go somewhere else.

The food is way overpriced and they never have decent beer specials. Their usual special is rolling rock for $2.75.  Better off going to Chaps or Chickie's and Petes.

The food isn't bad for pub grub. Too bad they allow smoking. Not a big fan of having cigarette smoke blown in my face while I'm having lunch.

The food was good, the price was great, and the server was exceptionally nice.  The atmosphere left a little to be desired, it is what I might describe as a dive bar.  There was a nice outdoor deck however it was storming so we had to sit in the small non-smoking section.  This place just looks like it is past its prime and due for a makeover.  If you're looking for an inexpensive dinner and don't mind outdated decor give it a try.  We'll probably go back again and I think we're going to give the take out pizza a try at some point too, it smelled really good.

The Beef and Ale is in a word... "Rustic"  !  It is a little kind of divey tavern with good wings, cheap beers, a nice local crowd, every TV tuned into Phillies and Eagles games.  I used to live on the same road and drove by all the time.  Stopped in for 6 packs pretty often which weren't too pricey.  They do have a little latticed in Patio outback which is a good area to chill on days when the weather is nice.  Also this place can be a big Biker hang out on certain days of the week.  Its your typical charming dive bar.  The locals that go here love it, people from out of town will probabaly turn up there noses, but its really not a bad little spot if you don't mind mingling with some of these laid back country folk... or as laid back country as it gets for just outside the Philadelphia city limits!

Goof Thing is they have a few microbrews and the drinks come in reasonably sized glasses. They are open till 2. But yu can smoke indoors, depending on personal preferences that could be a good or bad thing. Pretty noisy on weekend nights as the music is too loud for a small place.
Been here a couple of times but never tasted any food.

Okay, so we recently moved to the area and have driven by this spot quite a few times already. We figured that these kind of places usually end up being the best local food joint. So, we figured we'd give it a shot.

We walked in their "dining room" which is basically a garage with curtains and spray foam insulated roof. Okay - I can look past the decor because again, the food is usually great at these lil' places. They have a smoking and non-smoking section (something we're not used to coming from New York because everything is non-smoking now). The table we were sat at was directly underneath the heating vent and had to move to the next table. The chair I sat in felt like it was about to break - very wobbly and unstable. So, I grabbed another chair - and the same thing. After a few chairs, I found one that was sturdy. I like booths, so I was sad to see just table and chairs with these plasticy picnic-looking table cloths.

The hostess sat us and it took a while for the waitress to come out and take our order. We just ordered onion rings as an app and both had burgers. The onion rings were okay but not much flavor. The burgers were pretty much tasteless and dry. No good flavor. The cheese on mine saved it - horseradish cheddar. After getting our burgers, our waitress never came back to check on us or anything. She came with the check and we promptly paid and left.

To others - just keep driving. The chain restaurants up the street are better than this local joint.

So I stopped in for a plain white pie no sauce, just Mozzy) with a couple of toppings.  Otherwise wouldn't have if not for the raves over the pizza.

So yes, you have to enter through the back so go ahead and drive around.  I got worried when the chef said he didn't use mozzy, apparently they use white cheddar?  I never have heard of that one, but decided to give it try.

    The Details:
A good sized large pizza with toppings were plentiful and tasty, mushrooms were big and well cooked/baked in.  The black olives too, were fine. The white cheddar gave an interesting flavor, and while it doesn't beat out mozzy (for my tastes) it was good. Relatively thin crust but could have been thinner (personal preference).  I tend to like a bit less cheese on my pies to help bring out the flavor of the toppings, not overwhelm them.  This was not he cheesiest pie I ever had, but not Summit Brick Oven style either...it was acceptably between the two.

    Verdict:
Pizza is such a personal preference driven item, in my opinion and that makes reviewing them difficult.  Was this my favorite?  No.  Was it avoidable? No.  Overall, a slightly better than average pizza. So the review reflects A-OK pizza combined with the downsides of the venue (VFB&A).

BTW, there is a TV in Perotto's now, previous review mentioned it was Boob Tube free.

I've passed this place by for years, as I am not a sports bar type.  Late last year I noticed something new and familar about it: a Perrotto's Pizza sign.  Not any sign, THE sign, from the great local pizzeria that goes back to Norristown in the 50s, and Ridge Pike from the 60s into the 90s.   Perrotto's made the best pizza anywhere for my taste.  Cornmeal on the bottom of the crust, crispy, and tomato and cheese. Top it with mushrooms and that was our family favorite.  Well, it is back.  It appears the heirs of Perrotto's pizza have brought back the family recipe, and it is just as I remember it.  Initially, there were some transition problems, because the sports bar people and the family pizzeria folk are different groups.  The last time I checked, they have a special pizzeria space, that is not smoky or cluttered with giant tvs.  What a welcome addition to Audubon!

The Valley Forge Beef & Ale is a sports bar on Trooper Road. A friend and I stopped by for lunch since I was tickled by their sign out front (and I've been meaning to try it). For those of you who are technically inclined, they offer free Wifi. For those of you who are watching "the game", there are 14 television sets inside.

For starters, we ordered six (yes, six!) chicken wings for the pricely sum of $3.69. We had a choice of a mild, hot, atomic, or barbecque sauce and the wings came with Bleu cheese dressing and celery sticks. I don't believe we got the atomic - if I did, they certainly didn't leave an impression on me!

What did leave an impression on me was their milkshakes - I ordered a vanilla milkshake which was HUGE, nice and cold.

Their house specialties are served with chips. I ordered the hot ham sandwich which had natural cured ham, thinly sliced and served on a kaiser roll ($6). Unfortunately it was tasteless, even after I tried adding the included sauce (which appeared to be grease) to it.

Our server (Karen) was quick and friendly and the check came when needed. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, but if you happen by, get a milkshake.
