Try to get a seat outside! the patio area is adorable and we were bummed that we were seated indoors. It was probably for the better because we wanted to go for a bikeride after (which we needed after this meal!)
first of all: Tempura bacon. SERIOUSLY? Did someone think... bacon isn't unhealthy enough, so I have to batter it, deep fry it, and make a dipping sauce pure maple syrup. The vine is seriously on to something amazing, everybody and you're witnessing it now. It's so weird! Without the maple syrup, it's like... a weird biscuit, but with the maple syrup dipping, it's like we're on a whole new level, people. It's so good and I wish it wasn't so good because I want to eat it every day.... but i also want to live longer than 3 more weeks. Seriously. good. seriously.
We also had the morning after burger. It was okay, nothing to go to town about. I think there should be a over easy egg on top. I personally think every brunch item should have an over easy egg on it. I think every FOOD item should have an over easy egg on it. Man... i want some eggs now!
I had the corned beef. For some reason I read corned beef hash and I was disappointed when I got my dish... but corned beef is SOOOO GOOD. This was a really great dish and I totally recommend it! I like how it was really salty and seasoned my eggs perfectly. Â :)
I had the guava mama and the vine sunrise. Sadly, I thought they tasted really similar and I watched how the Guava mama was made and it was just Kerns from a soda can and champagne. I don't know what I was expecting... But maybe not canned juice i suppose.
The tempera bacon is seriously what makes me think about going back all the time. I can't rave about it enough.
I sorta want to come back for dinner. The menu looks awesome!
I absolutely love this place! I came here for brunch and had the smoked salmon bruschetta, nutella french toast, and guava mama. The smoked salmon was delicious which came with biscuits, salad, and potatoes. The french toast was also good and  was pretty simple. Personally, I thought the french toast could have been better if offered with more fruit. But my favorite part of our brunch was the Guava mama because it just looked so delicious (and it was!).
The service was also great! We didn't wait too long to get our food and our waitress was extremely friendly. However, it did take us about an hour to get our table. I also really like the ambiance since it is cute little cafe. We sat inside, although I wish we sat outside near the bar cause it looked cool.
This place is so laid back and relaxing. I recently had my first experience here and I ordered a Bloody Mary, mimosa, and the morning after burger. OMG everything  was so good, it couldn't have tasted any better. I also really liked that they take your name and number down and call you when your table is ready. I can't wait to go back.
Review Source:What a cute little place. I came here with intentions and excitement to try their brunch menu, but realized after our party of 3 was seated that brunch was only on Sundays (not Saturday when we went). Bummer. I guess it gives me an excuse to come back. Lunch entrees here are not cheap, I would say average is $15 per head. The indoor restaurant part is not too big, mainly set up with small tables (in my opinion), but the patio is so cute! You really feel like you're out in someone's backyard eating lunch. There are shaded and non-shaded areas, but it is generally covered (with sunlight seeping in). I ordered the crab mac and cheese for lunch with a side order of sweet potato tater-tots, and guava juice. Our server was a tad slow that day and when he brought out the tater-tots, he didn't bring me the sauce to dip with. So for me, service is ok. Guava juice as a drink option was unique to me since I don't feel like I see that often, and it was pretty tasty. My only wish is that they had more ice, or the juice was more cold since we were sitting outside. The crab mac and cheese cost too much for what it is. There was only cheese on the top layer of the dish, and once you eat the cheese off the top, it's basically macaroni mixed with "crab" and some kind of sauce. Where's the cheese? A tad disappointing. The sweet potato tater-tots on the other hand were exceptional. I loved them! Â
I look forward to coming back and trying their famous brunch.
Went here for brunch on a Sunday, we went around 930 and the wait wasn't too bad. It's very small inside but has a cozy feeling to it. We started with the infamous Guava Mama and I had the spinach quiche with a side of country potatoes and the greens salad that had a really good vinagrette. Would definately come back.
Review Source:This is a great place to go for drinks - they have a really nice patio/bar area and there is often live music. I have yet to be impressed by the food though. I'm a vegetarian and haven't liked any of their vegetarian dinner options. Brunch has been hit or miss - sometimes the pancakes are perfect, sometimes they are undercooked, and sometimes they are overdone and dry. I would love to come support this local business and eat here more though! I think if they just make a few tweaks to the menu the place would be perfect.
Review Source:4 stars for menu innovation. 2 stars for actual menu execution.
4 stars for friendly service. 1 star for preparedness... Place was slammed, server had WAY too many tables to give proper service. No manager or owner around to pitch in.
We just moved to Fremont from SF, and finding dining options has been a challenge. Â When we found Vine we were excited about their menu...and haven't found anything like it in Fremont. Â We decided to give brunch a go.
Arrived right at 9:30, waited about 10 minutes. Server wasn't busy yet when we first sat. She was super friendly and attentive. Â We ordered bacon tempura, innovative and fun, but super rich as to be expected. I ordered blueberry ricotta pancakes and my boyfriend ordered corn beef. Â He really liked the corn beef because it was 'real'. The pancakes were a big disappointment. The blueberries were fresh, but cakes were super dry. I definitely wouldn't have guessed there was ricotta in them. There was no butter on them, which they definitely needed for being dry. When we asked for butter, it came cold (which is a huge restaurant 101 pet peeve of ours), by then pancakes were also cold, so there was no salvaging them. Â We were also excited about some locally made biscuits on the menu... But those were also cold, which who wants cold butter with cold biscuits?
Lastly, by the time we were ready for the check, we could not get our server to save our life! By then she had like 10 tables! Including a 10 top large party! Â I'm not sure if there's ever a manager or owner present on Sundays, their busiest day of the week, but she could have used a hand. It took at least 20 minutes to get the check.
We'll definitely give dinner a try, but probably not for brunch again.
Brunch is my all time favorite meal, and this place had definitely satisfied my cravings for the most part.
I ordered the Guava Mama (aka mimosa), Tempura Bacon, and Blueberry Pancakes.
For my drink, this would be the second time I've tried a mimosa and I'd have to say the presentation and taste were 5/5!! I really liked the orchid decoration and the overall refreshing taste. Definitely a must try!
Next, the tempura bacon came out. Now, at first glance, it looked like a heart attack waiting to happen. But paired with a side of maple syrup brought out a whole new perspective on eating bacon! The texture of the outside batter was crispy on top of the inner bacon's crispiness... Sooo yummy! 5/5
Lastly, the bluebery pancakes arrived. It was lightly topped with strawberries and powdered sugar.I wasn't too impressed by the size and amount of blueberries they put in each pancake. For even one of the pancakes, I tasted what seemed like a burnt blueberry. I love fruits! But burning them on the pan does not leave a savoury taste. So 3.5/5 for these.
However, the combination of all the items I ordered turned out pretty delicious and filling! I must add, for the bottom of the bacon cup were a few pieces of mixed arugula. At first I thought the very bottom could be some sort of salad dressing, but it turned out to be the oil from the bacon. If there is some way to somehow add a side salad instead of infusing it with the bacon's juice, I probably would enjoy it more.
Also, the area is quite small. Probably more a cafe size than most places. Be prepared to wait a while before being seated.
Brunch on a Sunday is lovely. They serve it all day! I would like to come back here on a weekday or evening to try their other menu items.
This place is a super cute brunch place. I wish it wasn't so crowded all the time though! Both times I've come, I had to wait at least 45 minutes before getting seated and food takes awhile to come out. Once the food is out though, I forget all about how long it took.
1. I really love how everything on the menu looks so good. Nothing I've ordered so far has failed me food-wise. I ordered the "Nutella stuffed french toast" which was delicious! :)
2. I really like the Guava Mama drink. It comes in a really pretty glass with a flower in it. Makes the drink so much more appetizing. --- I ordered the margarita drink once and didn't like it at all. It's a brunch place and that drink was something you get more at a bar I thought.
One cute brunch place wayyy outta my reach!
"Fine food, not fine dining!"
Came here when I visited my friends in Fremont. With a bit of hangover, we decided to get some greasy food and more alchy(smart right?) in our system! The line was super long! But good thing they took down our cell phone number, so when the table is ready, we will get a ring!
This place is super cute in my opinion, kind of remind me of zazie in SF, where there's an outdoor seating area in the back(backyard), and the food is just amazing as zazie's! The decor reminds me of a high tea lounge! They set up these cute sofa with antique chairs. It is quite a small front dining area so it's easy to eavesdrop! I loveee listening to other's conversations, jk!
Food:
I feel like I came to BACONVILLE! Bacon-everything, at least from what we ordered!
1. AMerica boo - Yay tempura fried bacon with pure maple syrup! YUM! - MUST TRY!
2. The morning after burger - burger with bacon, fried egg, caramelized onions and fried mash potatoes! Who wouldn't want that?!!
3. Steak omelette with salsa, guac and sour cream - steak is perfectly cooked, tender, medium rare just the way i like it!
4. Chicken Fried steak - juicy and tender with a side of scrambled eggs
Drink:
1. I didn't just get the soju bloody mary, I got the BUZZZZZ-ACON SOJU MARY! It's regular bloody mary with BACON!
2. The guava mama - sparkling wine with guava juice and strawberry pieces, refreshing!
3. Margo-rita - get your buzz on! in my case, stay glowing!
Tummy fed, hangover cured, we walked out of the vine ready for a real sunday funday!
enjoy! xoxo
My hubby n i have been meaning to come here. I was texting him cool pictures i found on yelp of this place n their lil phrases on d chalkboard, etc. Right away we wanted to go! Everyday we keep talkin about it, getting more n more excited.. Finally a week later, thursday night, there we were, waiting for an hour. We still thought it was worth it so we stayed... D place was cramped. Ive no idea why they only serve food inside. D menu does not have some of d best lookin pix of food shown here. Im thinkin they have a separate brunch menu? Coz i wanted d morning after burger! So that was a bummer. Then d waitress told us they ran out of burgers, w/ a smile. Lets just say that that was d only thing on d menu my husband can have as an entree, hes a picky eater. But who runs out if BURGERS?! She did give us an option, though, to sub chicken. Were ok with that. Then she came back n said d chicken they have is only bone-in n that we should do steak instead. Without asking how he wanted d steak, they brought it rare. Our fault so we didnt say anything.
Sweet potato tots are nothing special. The buttermilk drumettes, however, were so delicious i will do takeout for those next time!! Omg, theyre the best! Then i had d chicken w/ waffles. I didnt quite get d whole thing. Why white gravy pool? Chicken had no flavor, waffle was ok. Overall i didnt like it much, but i still ate half of it! Lol! I was starving! Then for dessert we had d salted caramel cake. Muy bueno!
I seriously thought im gonna give them 5 stars. Im so disappointed. Our waitress was nice, though! My hubby still gave her 18% gratuity. She deserved it.
Staff is great and I still love the place but the meal is just okay. We had the mussels which had a bitter taste, the crab cakes were delicous (ask for extra sauce), the garlic fries were crispy but lacked garlic, the fired chicken still yummy. The Vine have cocktails made with soju which is pretty neat and also serve local beers. I would go back for the ambiance.
Review Source:Ambiance: Really nice and cozy, with sofa chairs and mini lamps on the walls. The only thing I disliked about the environment was the many flies that kept buzzing around our area, it was a bit distracting.
Food: I decided to stray from the most popular dish (the chicken) and order the crab mac n cheese. Â It was okay, the subtle hint of spice added a pleasant twist. However, the cheese was only added to the top, not throughout the dish, and the crab wasn't as soft as I'd hoped. Â It was probably not worth the price, but tasted decent.
Service: The waitress was very friendly and not overbearing. Got our food and bill relatively fast.
Pretty cute little joint to meet with friends and catch up. Its really pricey though but at least they let you taste some of the wine before committing to a full glass. I got the crab and artichoke dip and it was really good and filling. But this place is expensive no joke. I don't think the wine was strong enough for me and i got their strongest. Probably wouldn't come back.
Review Source:Ambiance: 2/5 Stars
Service: 0/5 Stars
Food: 2/5 Stars
Overall: 1.3 Stars
We came here on A Saturday afternoon 15 minutes before opening time and saw there was already a line of people waiting to eat here. I thought, "wow, this place MUST be good." I was highly disappointed.
*Ambiance: At first glance, the place itself seemed cute. Nice photos of Niles on the walls, simple tables and chairs. But the longer we sat there, the more I noticed the negatives. It's pretty small and cramped in their reg. dining area and they have a huge couch & coffee table sort of blocking the front door. Why? And they like to blast the music on high. Its a restaurant...and it's 11 fucking 30 on a Saturday morning. Why the loud music??
*The Service: Horrible. It took 20 - 25 minutes for our waitress to come by and take our drink orders. Another 15 minutes later, she finally came back to take our food orders. 30 agonizing minutes later, we got our food. Which was lackluster at best. We left this place at around 1.30pm. 2 hours total to have some lunch is just ridiculous.
*Food: I think this place tries a little too hard to have innovative menu items and forget crucial basics, like the importance of seasoning in the process. I ordered the cornmeal fried chicken. The chicken was juicy, but had zero seasoning. I had to pour hot sauce, salt and pepper all over it to make it more appetizing. The chicken was served on top of a waffle, which sounds great, right? Well, when served on top of white gravy, it was more like eating a big ball of dough. Where was the butter and syrup for my waffle?? They haphazardly put some sautéed kale on the plate, which sadly, was the best part of my meal.
I won't be coming back here, nor would I recommend it to my friends.
Thanks for the review from our East Bay Ambassador, Nique F. and my friend Eugenia C.'s recommendation. Â I was convinced that I will have a great dinning experience here and I honestly was not disappointed by The Vine.
At first glance, The Vine totally fits the small town charm of the Niles District in Fremont. Â From their decor to their food, you can tell that the owner has put lots of thoughts into this restaurant. Â The patio hidden in the back also has a bar area for great happy hour times. Â
We ordered the Sweet Potato Tater Tots.  It came with bacon in the sauce, nice touch!  I had the Cornmeal Fried Chicken with Sweet Potato waffle, greens, and Béchamel sauce.  The chicken was fried perfectly with its crunchy skins, although the greens were a little heavy on sodium.  My wife had the lunch special, Pull Pork Sandwich with salad.  It was very good, but I like my fried chicken better.
The service was excellent. Â My wife ordered a Guava Mama (sparkling wine and guava juice with mint), but we didn't know that they only serve it on Sundays. Â However, our server, Allison, still made one for us anyway. Â Very cool.
My TIP to you, The Vine proves that hidden gems do exist in little towns. Â So explore the Niles district some more after lunch. Â You never know what you'll find.
I usually don't like to write angry bad reviews but HOLY SHIT was it terrible.
Let me start off with the fact that I haven't eaten all day and I came here late afternoon because a friend had recommended this place to me. I was hungry, practically starving...
Came here, found out the wait was an hour to an hour and a half. Hey, why not, since this place has four stars right? EHHHH! WRONG. When we finally got seated, we didn't even get service. We sat at the end of the picnic table, which is square parallel to every table and booth in the tiny place, and we literally had to flag down the hostess. None of the servers came to help us. I don't know if it was a communication error amongst the hostess or server but I feel like we should have been taken [better] care of. Let me stress the fact that we waited about 20-30 minutes before we got help. And another thing that lacked caring and consideration was that face that the people sitting at the other end of the table sat down at least 20 minutes prior to us getting seated and still didn't get any service. Two separate tables that sat down adjacent to us along the wall outlining, after us got serviced quicker than us... Like WTF?! YOU LITERALLY HAD TO WALK PAST MY FRIEND AND I POKING OUR HEADS OUT LIKE GOPHERS FROM THE DIRT. To not notice us with our menus, no drinks, no water, nothing but fucken menus. WTF am I supposed to eat this paper and plastic?!?!?! Funny thing is that they bus the tables so fast, but the service sucks. Â If they made half the effort of the bussers it would be adequate to the business but since they don't. They don't. Step up your service. Such a disappointment and let down.
Anyways, I had order "The Morning After Burger," my friend ordered "The Crab and Artichoke Tostadas" and when we finally got our food, my egg was burnt, there was no bacon. Fuck dude, REALLY? The only thing that was good were the biscuit and jam. So unfortunate that this place isn't a fucken jam and biscuit place. IT'S A BRUNCH PLACE. Everything else was just bland and mediocre. Funny thing, there are a few signs hanging outside the window, "No Fine Dinning, just Fine Food." The sign lies. No fine food. Just food that's been fined while dinning.
I am still pissed off because my friend would even suggest this place. If you and I ever cross paths, and you asked me about lunch or brunch I would say "save your time and money. Â Don't bother with this place. Service sucks. Food is overpriced for such a disappointment. It's such a terrible experience, I WOULD NEVER EAT AT THE VINE, NOR HAVE YOU GO THERE." Never, EVER coming back.
I'm giving this place one star - for ambience. It really deserves zero stars for food. Unless you like everything fried and tasteless. Gross.
I want to backtrack a bit... I have come here before. When it was the Essanay Café. That place had great food! I hadn't been back there since it changed names (and ownership?) to The Vine until a few weeks ago. I thought about this review for a while before I started typing away because I don't like to review negatively.
First, we did not come here for breakfast/brunch, which I noticed many of the reviews are based on. We came to The Vine for dinner. I wanted to make reservations, but alas, they don't take reservations. The wait was 45 minutes for a Sunday evening. Fine. We ordered drinks and waited. When we finally got our table, we were told that they are not doing a typical dinner menu and trying something different. They will be serving a limited amount of menu items labeled as "sandbox". Fine. Whatever. We waited, so we wanted to stay at this point. However, it would have been great had they told us this bit of info beforehand.
We ordered quite a few dishes: garlic fries, fish & chips, pulled pork on top of potatoes, ricotta cheesecake, ice cream, and beef pastie with side salad. The garlic fries tasted like they were frozen and re-fried. The fish was so battered and greasy, you could barely find any fish in there. The pulled pork was great! However, it was supposed to be on top of potatoes, and there were no potatoes to be found. The beef pastie literally tasted like there was dirt inside mixed in with the beef, and the dough was too greasy and buttery. The ricotta cheesecake was dry and not sweet (I thought this was supposed to be dessert?!). The ice cream was the only thing that was delicious. I could not take more than two bites of anything else (besides the ice cream) because it was so unpleasant. I seriously wanted to just walk out, but that's not the type of people we are.
I should mention, too, that we ordered drinks. The waitress highly recommended a beer on tap that tasted nothing like she described. We sent it back, and she recommended a nice cab. It tasted like cheap cab. Very bitter. I ordered something called "Unicorn Candy" (or was it "Unicorn Sugar"). One would think it was sweet, especially because it was described as a sweet drink made with molasses. It was not sweet. I did not send it back, but asked the waitress to please bring me another drink - something sweet. She brought me some sort of tropical sunrise that was not better.
We left the place starving, frustrated, and $94 less in my bank account. We paid the bill, and vowed to never go back.
Very quaint decor/look, little mason jar cups, small simple menu with interesting twists- (use of siracha etc)
Service is ok, kind of slow. We waited quite a while for food, and it didn't help that there were flies hovering around inside the restaurant.
Crab Mac n cheese entree: a tad fishy in terms of the crab, very rich and heavy dish, but it wasn't as spectacular as I had hoped for, reading it off the menu. Comes with a salad for the entree, which was well dressed and tasty.
Their Garlic Fries were pretty tasty though, great flavor and aroma.
Located in the heart and historic district of Niles in Fremont, this cute little cozy but sophisticated place serves brunch, lunch, dinner, wines, craft beers and of course, delicious foodies!
Price is very affordable. Â Open parking on the streets. Â Very nice causual ambiance with an outside patio.
The servers are sooooooo hospitable and attentive I love that! Â One lady was wearing an outfit that totally reminded me of Lucille Ball of "I Love Lucy"...classic. Â :)
Luckily my family and I came here for a late lunch...so...it wasn't that crowded at all. Â Whew! Â (We were starving!)
Yummy Foodie:
*Sweet Potato Tator-Tots - w/candied bacon aioli dipping sauce. Â MY FAVORITE! Â It's not oily, it's light & crisp, you just want to keep devouring these tiny little tots. Â Nom nom nom. Â Oh, and I don't care for the bacon so I didn't try the sauce, but, my brother loved it. Â (5/5)
*Devils on Horseback - Bacon wrapped dates w/curry marmalade. Â Interesting mix of bacon & dates. Â Who knew? Â Oh and curry marmalade? Â Who comes up with such ideas? Â Brilliant (says my bro)....I guess it's another WIN for him on this dish. Â It's very fresh and such an interesting mix of flavors in your mouth. Â (4/5)
*Baby Spinach Salad - Apples, blue cheese, raw walnuts, candied bacon, whole grain mustard dressing. Â Delicious and fresh salad...you can't go wrong with that! Â I love my salad incorporated with fresh fruits and some sort of nuts. Â (5/5)
*Blackened Wild Salmon - w/leek, white bean, spinach, andouille sausage. Â Another WIN for me! Â Well-cooked and flavored salmon. Â I didn't really enjoyed teh Andouille sausage..in fact, there were wayyyy too many sausages in that dish! Â Who eats that much sausages?!?!? Â Sausage festivus. Â Yeesh. Â (4/5)
*Vine Burger - niman ranch sausage & beef, garlic mayo, arugula, grilled tomatoes, pepper jack cheese, organic field green salad. Â My sister-in-law thought the burger was just a-ok. Â A bit too spicy for her...must be the pepper jack cheese. Â (3/5)
*Grilled Angus NY Steak - w/mashed red skin potatoes, green beans, mustard, whiskey & cola reduction sauce. Â My brother enjoyed this very much...loved the NY steak. Â Well done and well-flavored and tendor. Â (5/5)
*Salmon, Mussel & Crab Pasta - organic pasta w/creamy sundried tomato pesto, onions & peppers. Â My mom REALLY loved this dish...she likes seafood so this was a treat for her..in a pasta version. Â LOL Â She really liked the creamy sauce. Â The salmon and mussel was fresh and delicious. Â (5/5)
They have happy hours everyday starting at 3 pm! Â =)
And...seasonal dishes they will add to their menu! Â =)
Note that they do NOT take reservations and are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays!
Come on by and check out this neat-o and delicious place if you're ever in the area! Â =)
It's Mother's Day and I get there at 10:30am knowing that it will be quite a wait. The hostess puts my name down and the time I checked in. She informs me that the wait will be about 1 hour and 45 mins and takes my phone number to call when ready.
12:30pm (2 hours later) and we're back to check in on how much longer and they're working on seating people who put their names down at 9:30am and there's a whole page before you get to my name. She says "yeah, it's taking longer today because we have a 3 course brunch for Mother's Day". Well, I know that, but now it's going to take like another 2 hours?????? Â WTF HOSTESS? DID IT EVER OCCUR TO YOU THAT PEOPLE ARE SAVING THEIR APPETITE AND IF IT'S GOING TO TAKE A LOT LONGER THAN YOU SAID IT WOULD, THAT YOU SHOULD CALL PPL TO SET THE EXPECTATION SO PEOPLE DON'T STARVE????? If you called me and said, it's taking longer than expected and apologize for the wait, I could have at least planned to go eat something else. I told the girl that she should really call the rest of the people on her list and let them know that it's going to take a lot longer.
You may have good food, which I don't plan on trying ever now, but your service sucks!!!!!
First time ever experiencing the Niles district and was pleasantly surprised to find this quaint little spot.
Came here at night with a friend for drinks and dinner...felt like I had entered "downtown" PA or some quaint town. Â The restaurant is very trendy and if the weather permits, the outdoor seating area is perfect for intimate gatherings or a date. Â They have firepits to keep you warm and very friendly staff which makes the experience that much better.
Food: small bites to main dishes. Â This place is known for their brunch on the weekends, but if you want to come here for drinks, they have a great wine bar. Â You may have to wait in line, but seat yourself at the bar and you should be fine with a drink while you're waiting. I had Coppola's Pinot Noir and some really good whites to choose from.
Who needs to go to SF for a fine dining experience?
This place is definitely on my list of places in Fremont :)
Updated review for SUNDAY BRUNCH:
was finally able to check this place out for brunch to see what the hype was all about on yelp.
The restaurant opens at 930am on Sundays and me and my cousin came here at 945 and there was already a 15 minute wait. SERIOUSLY? The food better be really good here.
Don't get me wrong, the people here that serve your food are very nice, and it's a cute restaurant. but my star rating is on the food only.
Prices are decent.. we ordered the nutella stuffed french toast and the chicken fried steak. I LOVVVE sweets and i was not too impressed by the nutella french toast. It tasted like something i could've made at home. It was lacking either more butter, or more nutella because it did not hit my sweet tooth spot like I was hoping it to.
The chicken fried steak was NOT GOOD AT ALL. I was sooo disappointed. I would think this place would give Denny's country fried steak a run for its money but the steak was thick and OVER DRY, and under seasoned. There was no taste and they did not put enough gravy. The biscuit was dry and the potatoes were under seasoned as well. It tasted like something a 70 year old would eat because it was very bland. And also, how the hell are you not gonna carry TOBASCO SAUCE at this place? And I don't mean any sort of "hot sauce" but some damn Tobasco SAUCE!!! Can't live without tobasco and ever breakfast joint needs to have this on hand. They did not :( 1 star off just for that!
Probably not coming back here....
3.5 solid stars.
The reason why I didnt' give them 4 solid stars was there is a "break" in their Saturday schedule, where they don't serve food and just drinks. I am not trying to be snobby, but we waited about 2 hours before we could have our first meal of the day, at 4:30pm!
We really wanted to come here for brunch, but we missed the brunch hours by 20 minutes and they sold out of everything.
Overall, really solid service and food. One of the wait staff knew we were hungry and gave us a basket of bread and jam :) So sweet of him!
Ordered:
1) Garlic fries: 4/5
2) Sweet potato tots: 3/5 (Not as good as i expected--would skip this and order garlic fries instead)
3) Vine Burger: 3/5 pretty good
Overall, solid place; Will be back again ON TIME for lunch :)
You can seriously find me here every other weekend!
I've grown up in Fremont my whole life minus these last couple of yrs or so (but still visit often for family) and just discovered this. This is the best restaurant in Fremont, located in the amazingly historical downtown Niles.
*Not many people know that Niles was The Hollywood of the roaring 20's and that Charlie Chaplin filmed many of his films there, on the railways.*
Staff is awesome, food is killer, prices are right- it's charming, very modern, clean and def an "it" spot.
Tips:
-expect a wait, always. they don't do reservations. it can be only 10 min, it can be an hr (plus another to get your food), but you will have a wait no matter when you go- dinner or breakfast. This is a chill, hipster place and a relaxed vibe. Please leave all uptight baggage at the door, thanks.
-go for brunch! that's their best menu!
-TRY THE TEMPURA-FRIED BACON W/ MAPLE SYRUP DIP! it's called "booyah" something or other..
-if you go for dinner, try their chicken and waffle DINNER- the gravy is perfect and the spinach was a nice touch. really original take on comfort food.
-all the cocktails are delicious, you can't go wrong! I prefer their brunch chocolate wine cocktail.
-if you go for dinner, go early- they were out of 3 main dishes when I went last time (burgers, salmon and something else..)
-also, their ketsup for sweet fries has curry in it. it's not ok.
This is a great place for brunch in Fremont, but be prepared to wait unless you come early. We came around 11 and the wait was nearly an hour.
I had the corned beef hash which was really good and pretty filling. Service was great and the place had an old fashioned feel to it.
The restaurant looks small from the outside, but they have a large outdoor patio area in the back with lots of seating.
Parking is easy, either street or the lot across the street.
We came here for brunch with a fellow fit-foodie couple the day before my double jaw surgery back in February 2013. The wait was of course a long one, but we didn't mind too much since there's plenty of cute antique shops to walk into in The Niles area of Fremont.
After almost an hour wait, we walked in and were seated in a comfy booth for four. The menu is not extensive at all. And just expect the pricing to be "fine-dining" type pricing.
I ordered the Crab & Artichoke Tostada which came with delicious and fresh-tasting crab, artichoke hearts, bomb ass cream cheese, salsa and corn tortillas with a fried egg. I really enjoyed my meal. What I realized about this plate was that it was portioned more along the lines of "quality over quantity".
Only downside to this place is obviously the crazy wait and the fact that there's only one bathroom, so be prepared for a wait there too if you drink plenty of liquids during your meal.
The Vine is an adorable little eatery in the Niles area of Fremont. The area is just quaint and charming. I've came here twice so far for lunch, and both were really great experiences. Service is always friendly and attentive. I like the look and vibe of this place cause it's laidback, cute, and cozy.
The 1st time I was here I had the Chicken and waffle which was different from what I was used to. They used a gravy sauce instead of syrup, but nonetheless still tasty. Then the 2nd time I was here I had their Vine burger which was delicious! I loved it.
I would definitely love to come back here again and try their brunch menu and HH. :)
Sunday Brunch hits the spot... eventually. Â Be prepared to wait even if getting there early. Â If you arrive 15 min after opening like we did, expect the wait to be about an hour and 15 min. Â This gives you time to browse the antique shops and wonder why your baseball cards are sitting in a shoe box at home and not displayed in one of those stores. Â Once seated in the restaurant, it's a nice, comfortable atmosphere in a mom and pop restaurant. Â We sat inside, even though the patio area looks like a good place to be seated as well. Â Service is friendly and attentive. Â With another 30 min wait for food, it's definitely a test of patience eating at The Vine. Â As seen in other reviews, some are negative for the wait and I would agree.
As for the food, the $11 corned beef hash has grade-A presentation to go with grade-A taste. Â I was impressed with the amount of food and the freshness of the potatoes and corned beef. Â It also came with some spinach greens and a couple of eggs, cooked to order. Â The $5 tempura bacon with a side of maple syrup was intriguing and tasted oh-so-good. Â Tempura, bacon, and maple syrup are three items that actually go well together (Just like on Chopped! Â How'd they do that?).
Take your friends, take your family, and take your Kindle to pass the time until seated. Â Just don't come on an empty stomach.
One of the only times in my life where I have not tipped.
1) Server never asked us or told us where the water is.
2) She forgot half of the table when getting refills on a few occasions.
3) When an order was incorrect, she rolled her eyes hard and stomped off with it. We may have given her the wrong order, but no matter who's at fault, the attitude is over the top.
4) the easter menu was misleading, the salmon scramble had about 6-7 small scraps of salmon dispersed through it and came in a bun sandwich style, no one really remembered reading this on the menu. Small portions for $14.
5) obvious ploy toward people who want to support local businesses on the back of their menu (local is the new black), while not striving to provide anything that comes close to an enjoyable experience.
maybe it was the easter day rush. I might give it the benefit of the doubt.
After reading the reviews on Yelp, I asked my sweetie to take me to The Vine. We arrived at 3:50 PM on Sunday. The sign outside said they would be serving dinner at 4:00 PM, so we went inside where a wait person directed us to the patio for a drink. We were about to sit down when another wait person told us that they would be serving dinner until 4:30. My spouse told her that we didn't want to wait that long and that The Vine staff should adjust the sign outside. They seemed uninterested. We left in disappointment and upset. We went to Emil Villa's in Livermore instead.
The staff treated us rudely. My spouse told me that one of our customers told him that The Vine prefers to cater to young drinkers (we're an older couple). I wouldn't recommend The Vine to older people or maybe it was just us. I don't know.
This review is for their Sunday Brunch:
This establishment is the same location as the now closed Essenay's cafe. We decided to give this restaurant a try since I was in the mood for a savory Sunday brunch.
The Niles area is very quaint and charming and has been revamped. The train depot has been remodeled and more parking added. Very pleasant suprise since parking has always been a pain in the booty.
The aesthetics of the restaurant hasnt changed much and we were told that there was a 10 to 15 min wait. The hostess took down my cell phone number and said she would call when our table was ready incase we wanted to take a stroll. We were seated promptly and ordered:
(all dishes came with home fries, salad, and a biscuit)
Corned beef and potatoes: This was tasty. Very simple but the husband seemed to enjoy it
Hammy Sandwich: This was way too oily for my taste. It was a slice of ham, brie cheese, marmalade on a baguette which was pressed in a panini press. My daughter ate half but picked out the ham and just ate that out of the second half.
Chicken Fried Steak: This was good. My youngest chose this dish and I thought it was delicious. The chicken fried steak and gravy wasnt too salty which I appreciated.
A pitcher of Guava mimosa: Both my husband and I experienced massive hangover/headaches after drinking this. We never get it this bad so I am assuming the sparkling wine used for this is very cheap quality. So we wont be ordering this again. Â
Service was ok. I am not too picky when it comes to this. As long as its polite and prompt, I am a happy camper.
Overall it was a OK experience. I would rate more alongs the line of 3.5 stars. I will have to comeback another time to try their dinner offerings and will update this review then when I get a better picture of the food.
