I first discovered this place when I was in college. The assignment was to improve a business and I had just turned 21, so I convinced my group to improve a bar. So as research, I went to different bars in Hayward looking for crappy service. We went to Arnie's Time Out (closed) and they suggest Bottom's Up.
So we went in on a Saturday afternoon in the summer and it was popping. Apparently it was someone's birthday and they had BBQ. We were offered food. The drinks were very fairly priced and strong! We had a blast!
After that, we ended up going every weekend. Unfortunately we moved out of the area last year, but definitely enjoyed that place.
Granted, it is not in the best of neighborhoods. The regulars can come across as grumpy. :) But it's a dive bar, and it's MY dive bar!
We went here on a dare! If you read my other reviews, you will note that i often frequent dive bars in less than friendly territory, but this place was on a whole nother level brotha!
It's off of Tennyson, an already mean street, in a shopping center that makes you feel like you might get trapped in at any moment. It's dark inside, maybe darker than I've ever seen.
Drinks are cheap and heavy poured, my rum and coke was nearly confused with sprite on the rocks. Don't expect a warm welcome from the neighborhood manual laborers or the drunk by nooners, but keep to yourself and keep a limit on how long you'll be there and you should be fine.
