This spot is the airport's one redeeming factor.

Bland, mediocre food at 4-star prices, decent wine at crazy price. Not remotely worth it.

Excellent place for a bite during a layover at DTW. The Chickpea & Chorizo Chili is excellent, highly recommend making this a part of your meal.  It is a bit expensive for the small portions you get so do be prepared to order multiple items off the menu.

Great food. By far the best wine selection with reasonable prices of any restaurant in Detroit. I come to the airport early to stop by. If I don't finish the bottle I buy I can bring on the plane.

I stopped here randomly for dinner before my flight home. Relaxing atmosphere, nice service, and good lighting - and clean! A cut above most airport spots.

I love stopping in here when traveling through Detroit airport. Great friendly staff, excellent wines. Food is high quality but very small portions, which is usually fine for me when traveling anyway...

I had a 3 hour layover in Detroit on my way home after Thanksgiving.  Vino Volo has great gluten-free food options and a great wine selection too!   I'll definitely be back next time I have a long layover!

Detroit Airport is on the Nice List!  After chilling here for an hour I'm sure Detroit Airport asked Santa for a kick ass place that would level all other airport drinkeries and eateries and I see it was handsomely rewarded.  Well done Santa, well done.

I can see myself arriving early here just to stop in.  I had the brie and proscuitto on ciabata with fig preserves, OMG Vo-licious!!!!   To go with they had flights of all colors, flavors and price ranges.  I selected was the "South of the Equator" and it was fantastic.

But here is the kicker...It's affordable! They have half portions of all the food and the flights were between $10-15.    I got outta there for only $18.  That's unheard of for airport eatering!

Merry Vino to all and to all a good flight!

Bizarrely good,  Located between gates A-43 and A-45 in the McNamara Terminal building, once you're through security; short distance to the iconic water fountain.

Sat down at one of the two person tables in a comfortable chair.  Extraordinarily civilized wine list and waiters are actually able to discuss the characteristics of the wines (cab versus pinot versus the various whites) Plugs in the wall behind you for charging technology.  Had the large chicken breast salad---chicken came thinly sliced warm on a cool spring lettuces and arugula---very very nice.

Finished with a chocolate something or other---also nice.

All up, for two and half hours of a nice environment, very decent food and good service (I know others said slow, but I didn't experience that)--$25.

    Would and will go again.

I challenge you to find a better place to kill time at DTW airport that does not require you to have elite status with Delta.  Even then, I am thinking that I would rather be here.  Flights of wine are very reasonably priced or you can pick a glass from their expansive selection.  They have tapas to snack on, including desserts, but I did not have time for that.  Another big win is their uber comfortable chairs.  If you need a last minute gift for someone, bottles are pretty reasonably priced.  It is right across the terminal from Popeye's by Gate A43, so now you have a place to go when Delta delays or cancels your flight.  Huzzah!

had some time to kill between flames.......sat down, picked out a few nice wines to sample and ordered a nice little salmon app to accompany it, what a great idea - nice atmosphere, great chairs, good wine, nice food that's not fried.......ahhhhhhh that's how you travel.

If you are at Detroit-Ft. Wayne Airport and have 30 minutes to spare, I recommend a stop here for a glass of wine or three and a light meal. The "flights" of 3 wines are always well-thought out and tasy. The almonds, olives, cheeses and salads are fresh and complement the wines very nicely. There is a cozy and comfy vibe that I find very relaxing amid the hubub of this sprawling airport. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable regarding the wines and menu. I wish they would open a franchise at Boston-Logan.

Lots of great single or couple traveler seating.  Tons of snack options to choose from all in a smaller and larger portion.  A whole sandwich should fill up most hungries.  I have tried nearly all of the menu items.  I like a half Brie sandwich with almonds.  I can fill up, have a glass or two of wine and still be under per diem.

In the middle of a long layover I was looking for a relaxing location for a bite to eat and a drink. When I came upon Vino Volo    Just what we were looking for. Good food and a really nice wine selection.

This is a little piece of heaven for a constant traveler who loathes the Russian Roulette of airport food. Cozy seating and ambience for an airport spot. Friendly staff who seem to know what they're talking about. I just love the bit of class this place offers with tasty treats that come in half sizes if you're not too hungry. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is that those half sizes were surprisingly on the small side...I was hoping for New York City quality without the price tag. Overall, definitely a must stop for someone trying to bide their 2 hour layover with ease.

The Tuscan Chicken sandwich was great! It was complimented perfectly by the wine smapler! The service was a bit slow, mostly because the place was very, very busy. I will definitely be visiting more often!

It's gotten to the point that I actually go out of my way to have long layovers in the Detroit airport so I can come here. Yes, I realize it is ridiculous to give five stars to a chain. Yes, I am still going to do it.

Vino Volo's pleasant interior, with clean, modern lines and comfy chairs, and its friendly service are a balm for the weary traveler. Come here to unwind on your way home, or to celebrate the start of a big vacation. The samplers are definitely the way to go. You get to try 3 unusual wines (no Yellowtail or Robert Mondavi here) and the menu changes often. There are fun themes like rosé and barbecue reds for summer; samplers from a particular region of the world; and even samplers themed around a price point ("value reds" if you want to share a sampler and then pick one glass to order, or "special" wines that you'd never get to try by the bottle or even by the glass, but here you can have a taste for a reasonable price). If you really fall in love, you can buy a bottle to take home.

The last couple of times I've gone, I've tried the food and been bowled over by how good it is. Appetizer selections include marinated olives with herbs; Marcona almonds with rosemary; and a cheese plate. The main-dish items can be ordered as a half portion - great for sampling, and for the budget-conscious! Out of those, I've tried the smoked salmon bruschetta; the braised pork tacos with cabbage slaw on corn tortillas; the chickpea & chorizo chili; and the mac & cheese (made with cheddar, gouda, and truffle oil; topped with breadcrumbs). I thought the salmon rolls were a bit blah, but everything else was lip-smacking and mouth-watering.

Next time you're at the airport, skip the $7-a-slice pizza or the $12 "salad" with suspicious ingredients, and just come here. With higher-quality food than you get at many restaurants outside airports, and prices that are actually lower than most airport food, why would you NOT come to Vino Volo?

What a treasure!  Vino Volo has great food and, of course, wine. The samplers are your best bet, since you get three healthy glasses to try out. If you particularly like any one of the three you can buy a bottle right there, or just get another glass.

We were so skeptical about this place at first, but we relied on Yelp and gave it a try!

We started off with the Sweetheart Sparkling Sampler for $11 (most samplers around $11-$15) which consisted of three generous samples of wines with descriptions and prices per bottle for each.  The highlight of the three, in my opinion, was the champagne.

Since Vino Volo specializes in wines, it only offers very few small tapas-style dishes, so I was bummed about that... so much so that I had to force the boyfriend to eat at another restaurant at the airport thirty minutes later.

We ended up ordering the Brie & Prosciutto Sandwich (small, $6), Braised Pork Tacos (regular, $9), Artisan Cured Meats (small, $8), and Penne & Cheese (small, $6).  Seems like a lot, but it really wasn't much because the portions were minuscule.

The Brie & Prosciutto Sandwich was our favorite, however.  The brie and fig spread complemented well with the delicious slices of prosciutto and crunchy bread.  We liked it too much that when we got back to Jersey, we went to the store and made some.  The other small plates, on the other hand, were just blah.  Either it was too salty or just eh.

Good thing we didn't totally blow our money on this place, but we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well if you like the staff to steal your credit card or lay victim to identity theft please visit Vino Volo! (a.k.a. Taste, Inc.)

I stopped here on a connection and accidentally left my card when leaving. When I arrived at my destination I realized that I left my card there contacted the staff and they stated they still had my card and would destroy it. I was really surprised to get a call from AMEX a few days later when someone was using that card across Canada. Clearly the card was not destroyed and was stolen by the staff.  Thanks VIno Volo!

What was even more saddening and scary is when I contacted the manager about this his response was "Really?" and acting as though they did nothing wrong. What was even more disturbing is when contacting the HQ of Taste, Inc. that owns Vino Volo is that the Executives there deny any wrong doing. I tried contacting Doug Tomlinson, CEO, and spoke with Chris Simmons but they were of no help.

For the sake of your identity theft sake, so not visit Vino Volo, or use cash.

One of the few relaxing places in the Detroit Airport to relax, get a very nice wine and good food.  Vino Volo is always clean, the waitstaff friendly and the food fresh.  The wine selections are very good without being overly expensive.  The portions for both wine and food are generous and the waitstaff doesn't rush to get you out quick.  A great place for quiet conversation while waiting for your flight!

Perfect place for a layover in Detroit McNamara Terminal. Good selection by the glass. Good prices for vino and snax/sandwiches. Comfy chairs. Ample pours. Good portions esp for small plates. Will definitely stop in next time flying thru.

I had a longer layover than expected this past week so I stopped in for a tasting. I had the white wine flight which included a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. The Sauvignon Blanc was my favorite, very fruity and smooth. I liked the Pinot Grigio the second best and lastly the Chardonnay. I'm usually a Chardonnay girl but this one was a little too dry for  my liking. I also had half a chicken sandwich and the cheese platter which was delish! Met some other really nice ladies at the tasting as well. The tasting, a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc and my food was 32 bucks which isn't bad especially for an airport. The staff was very accommodating and friendly as well.

This elegant wine bar is a must stop at the Detroit Airport for those of us who enjoy good wine along with tapas. It is by gate A43. The interior is cozy, boutique-ish and the service is very friendly. The music is well selected and slow. Wines are delightful and reasonably priced. Especially their three-wine flights. They also have a small tapas menu that has items like smoked salmon rolls, tacos, almonds, olives, greens, cheese, sandwiches, ... The only downside is the lack of free Internet at the DTW, but that is not Vino Volo's fault.

Try the "New World sampler" (a great deal from South America) with the smoked salmon rolls. Mixed greens with goat cheese are good, too, but they could be more fresh (I tried them twice; the second time was less fresh than the first).

You will forget that you are in an airport and may start fancying being in an elegant wine bar in the downtown of a cosmopolitan city -- you would almost be right, until you miss your flight. So, keep your time in check; set an alarm.

For a somewhat-hungry frequent traveler who enjoys a glass of wine while making her connection, Vino Volo is a cozy haven (I was there two days in a row!). You can also buy wines here to take home or to friends. We need more such places in airports: winy, cozy, elegant, friendly. Kudos to those who acted on the concept and also to the knowledgeable, friendly bartenders who serve here.

Sitting here and ordering the Braised Porks Tacos.  I said, "may i have the tacos?". Waiter says, "no" and walks away.  I would love to say the service here is prentenious and rude, but I will provide the benefit of the doubt that it is just the individual.

That said...some pretty serious wines are available...I am enjoying a 2005 CastelGiocondo Brunello Di Montecino.  Not your usual Yellow Tail offering at Max and Erma's

Let's put aside the price.  This spot is in the airport so it's going to be expensive.  Accept that, get over it, and then go grab a seat - preferably at the bar.

Kris and I had a 7:something flight from DTW to Amsterdam where we would be starting our European Adventure.  We're both a little weird about flying... we don't really mind it but we convince ourselves that we're going to be nervous.  Then we're fine.  Weird, right?  The good thing is, it gives us an excuse to drink.  Usually that means some lame airport bar with horrific beer.

    Not this time!

Vino Volo is a welcome change to the pre-flight drinking game.  Wow.  Sparse and chic, the bar offers just a few seats - I hope you're lucky enough to get one.  We were able to sit at the bar and greatly enjoyed the two flights we tried - a red and rose.  From there we each picked a glass (or three) to have after.  The wine selection is great but, more importantly, the sommalier working the day we were there kicked ass.  She was sassy, friendly, knowledgeable and fun.  She not only guided us through the selections we made but also had advice for what to drink when we were in different cities on our trip.

The food is limited but excellent - I strongly recommend getting olives and a cheese plate.  The half sandwich is teeny but the perfect size if you're more in the mood for tapas style which is a great way to go.  We will definitely be popping in here the next time we fly.  Hell, we'll probably sneak in after we land and before we head back to Ann Arbor!

I had a flight canceled on me and that left me with an unexpected 3 hour delay at Detroit Airport.  That left me with some time to kill and there's only so much shopping you can do at Brooks Brothers.

I settled into Vino Volo and enjoyed a wonderful flight of Sauvignon Blanc wines with a delicious mac and cheese finished with truffle oil.  Not the cheapest place to kill time - but it is definitely comfortable, food choices are great and the wine selection by the glass is pretty nice too.

During my long weekend at DTW I visited VV only to purchase a bottle of wine for a gathering I was going to after the Michigan game.  We had a nice bottle of wine from a vineyard in Michigan.  (who knew)

Next trip in December will include the tasting trio.  Can't wait!

First of all, after reading the reviews on this page I thought this place had beer, but apparently they only have wine. That was ok, but I was just under the impression, due to the info on this page that they had beer too. Whatever.

I felt really out of place when I walked in this wine shop, but felt better about myself when I saw the more-well-off-than-me woman sitting at a table with her shoes off and feet up on one of the chairs. Ummm, ok. Classy.

I had a glass of red wine and some cheese. I was surprised they had food, so that was cool. I like to eat something when I'm drinking, especially before going on a plane. The music was sort of awful, but the bar staff was really cool and laid back and the wine and cheese was yummy. I only wish I had had longer than 30 minutes to kill so I could've tried some other wines. I saw someone having a wine sampling, but I didn't have time to try any of those. Maybe next time.

Overall, cool place. Never thought I'd see a place like that in an airport.

Not bad ----  I was stuck in the crazy Detroit Airport for over 3 hours ( thanks Delta you piece of dog shit )  Luckily I found this little gem after ridding the tram back and forth until I felt like I was going to go postal.  After a few glasses I jumped back on the tram feeling just like a NY bum.
    AHHHHHHhhhhh   airport wasted is great.

Okay people, chill out. This is a fine place to grab a glass of wine during your layover. I wish I would have just gone to one of the pubs for a pint and a burger, though.

I think in these trying-to-be-classy airport bars it's the staff that seals the deal and that was definitely the case here. No star treatment here. I sat at the bar and barely got any eye contact from the three staff members behind it. I had just had a mildly harrowing flight experience... can I get a smile? No?

I mean, the wine is decent. Nothing on the list really jumped out at me... it seemed very predictable. Some better-looking bottles for sale, which could come in handy if you forgot a housewarming gift for whoever is picking you up. Prices are what you would expect for an airport. I was attracted to a bottle of rose, which the guy kept telling me tasted "just like a sauvignon blanc, right?" Um,  sure... but in your limited space, why not stock a rose that doesn't taste exactly like the last glass of wine I purchased while sitting in this same bar stool not ten minutes ago?

The food was edible, like cheap catering at a wedding. I ordered half a sandwich and a salad. It came out slightly warmed with a silver plastic knife, which, just WTF. It looked real! The sandwich was already cut in half, so I didn't even need a knife! You're just messing with me now...

And to think I backtracked and had to go through the trippy tunnel two extra times for this crap! No thanks.

What a great way to have lunch at the airport! With a warm and inviting atmosphere and a friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, I forgot that we were in the airport awaiting our flight home.

Decent wine selection with some nice flight options. The food was great! The brie, prosciutto and fig jam sandwich was heavenly. The pork tacos were fun and delicious and the chicken sandwich was so so tasty. It's great to see that you no longer have to grab a burger in the airport. Looks like there is a location in JFK as well, so I'll have to check it out.

So bizarre to be sitting in an airport wine bar at least in this country right?  I see from their menu that they've also got one at JFK (home airport) which leads me to believe that, finally, air travel may be shifting to a more civilized experience for us masses, even in spite of the egregious events that lead up to getting on this side of security!
Nice work whoever you are who came up with this idea.  Thanks for providing simple but significant improvements to an otherwise necessary evil: air travel.
The menu is appropriately small tastes, food with suggested wine pairings, in a space that likely seems quick turnover (who really lingers at an airport much?  Well, of course, in a place like Detroit's airport, designed as a hub for transferring from regional mid-western cities to international destinations, probably a lot of travellers spend significant time here, so it makes sense in that way), and the wine is not at all adventurous, but is instead surprisingly well selected.
    Nice job, I say.

Okay, don't take the 4 stars to mean that I think this place is a great wine bar.  I've only had one glass of wine there as part of a special.  The little oxygen bar cum spa place next door had a little deal going on with Vino Volo for the holidays.  One $10 glass of wine at Vino Volo and a 15-minute chair massage at the other place for $25.  That's the extent of my experience with Vino Volo.  So, I can't really comment on much more.  So, think of my four stars as a provisional rating.  Some of the stuff being sold there, I like.  Notably, they have Dibon Demi-Sec Cava, which I love.  The menu looks decent as well.

Anyway, for me, the best thing about this place is that it exists at DTW, and it doesn't suck.  If I had known that it were there, I wouldn't have eaten at the Burger King around the corner.  Now, I know better.  Another cool thing, I can buy wine there and bring it to my travel destination.  Pretty cool!

Things I'm still trying to get over:

    1) The fact that I am writing a review of a business in an airport.
    2) The fact that I feel so moved by something in an airport!
    3) The fact that this place was in an airport! Like layover, connection miss miss, plane fly fly goodbye AIRPORT!

But let me just say, Vino Volo is such an amazingly refreshing change of pace from the usual Junkfood Express style places you end up at while flying, because it tackles some tough questions-- like why NOT enjoy a beautiful glass of wine instead of a nondescript draught beer??? Why not some actually good (but still reasonably priced) food instead of a limp sandwich made and Saran-wrapped last Tuesday??!

Really, no reason, except for precedent. F that!

One thing I'm still deciding about is their decision to insulate the place from general airport announcements/ status screens. While I appreciate a break from the bustle to breathe and enjoy my vino, I kind of want to make my flight too. Tough decisions -- I guess I just can't have everything!

But seriously though, even airport novelty aside, Vino Volo does a good job at being a straight up wine bar. An interesting array of options to choose from, with some cool, local and seasonally rotating features as well. As everyone mentions, the flights of three are a steal at $10-$15, and really possibly THE best way to spend a layover.

I try to stop into Vino Volo every time i am in DTW. Sadly its not open at 6am for that early flight to Atlanta. That aside this a treasure within the Airport. The 3 wine selection taster is great. The staff usually pretty knowledgeable & whilst i don't usually eat the few times i have everything is good.If you are a frequent flyer & love wine, check it out.

Love this place. I had a 2 hour delay, and wandered past. Hallelujah! A decent glass of wine and some tasty food! I got one of the wine flights, and it was great. Your get to taste 4 different wines for about $13 bucks. I also had a bowl of chickpea chorizo chili, and it was really tasty. Comfy, clean, upscale environment was a welcome refuge from the loud poorly run places you usually encounter in airports. Not cheap, but certainly no more than you would pay for the same service downtown in a major city. Very nice place to relax.

I love this place....sometimes I buy the cheapest airline ticket I can find so I can just hang out in Metro Airport- Mingle with the tourists, get a massage and then go next door to this gem!
The wine, is reasonably priced and they carry and feature local wines.  The staff is well behaved and are very helpful.

The two things that make me love this place the most are the 3 glass wine tastings...very inexpensive and (drum roll please) the Prosciutto, Brie, and Fig sandwich...Its YUM O (god I hate Rachelle Ray...Ok hates a strong word.  She's done well for herself.)

I have a craving that I just can't satisfy, because the nearest place I can get this fantastic Chickpea and Chorizo Chili dish is in Sacramento. That's not where I tried this delectable dish, though.

On my trip home from the Inauguration (yes, Obama's!), I had a layover in the Detroit airport, and I walked around looking for a nice place to eat, trying not to cave in to my usual travel comfort food craving (McDonald's).

Vino Volo looked like a great place for lunch, and I was not disappointed. The chorizo and chickpea chili was so good that I bought one 'to-go' to bring to my parents in L.A. so that they could try to figure out the ingredients.   I also had a prosciutto and fig jam sandwich that was marvelous, and a flight of red wines to go with my meal.

If you have a layover at the Detroit Airport, I recommend you sit down and take some comfort here...and take home a bottle of wine with you as a souvenir.

Now, if they could just open one at LAX...
