Lookin for some late night grub in HR? Â Look no further. Â The Waucoma Club is where it's at. Â
Thanks to fellow Yelpers for making a recommendation for where to get a bite to eat after 9 pm in HR. Â
I sat myself at the bar, checked out the fairly extensive menu for a bar, and decided on the bowl of gumbo (think it was like $6 or $7) and went to town. Â Solid bowl of gumbo and I was quite content. Â Good portion size, came out piping hot, served with fresh sourdough bread. Â The bartender was quite attentive and friendly.
It didn't seem like there were many options for late night dining in HR (after searching Yelp), so I was quite happy that they were open late and were serving really good food. Â Â The bartender told me that the chef is quite accomplished and they are happy to have him. Â
The decor is very cool, it's clean, TV's broadcasting sports, everything is pretty upscale and modern looking -- definitely not a dive bar. Â
I would definitely come back here for a beer and chow if I were back in the area.
Chanced upon this gem and what a treat!! Very cool atmosphere. Stopped in first night and had a few drinks. We were impressed by our very knowledgeable bartender/owner. We had a not so good experience earlier in the evening with pizza so he recommended a place to try the next day for pizza the next day. I said we would be back for dinner and he aid we should come back and try him out for happy hour. Drink deald and a pretty boss happy hour menu. We went to Double Mt. for pizza and then later back to Waucoma for a seriously solid Burger that is now in my top 5 best burgers ever! Just felt right at home. Well what a treat and very full bellies later we even played some pool afterwards. If you in Hood River do not miss this almost hidden jewel.
Review Source:If you want to hang out in a real bar in Hood River this is the place! Â Not a brewery, not a "gastro-pub", but a BAR! Â
Now don't get me wrong, it's not a dive. Â And the food is EXCELLENT (the burger has pork and bacon mixed with the beef when ground. Â PORK! AND BACON!) and worth coming for on it's own. Â But it is a nice, long, wooden bar with a huge bar mirror. Â There are a couple of TV's for sporting events and yes, a ping pong table.
The clientele is a diverse mix of locals, tourists, and passers-through. Â Everyone seems to have a good time, which is kind of the point of a bar, yes? There are good bands on select nights and if you're lucky a bachelorette party will come in. Â I've been lucky a couple of times there, HEY-OH!
I had a blast here hanging out with friends, playing darts, watching basketball and of course drinking beer. Â They also have a pool table and ping pong. Â Some nights they feature live music and dancing. Â They keep a nice selection of local brews and several Oregon standbys on tap. Â
I haven't tried the food yet, but based on the service, the beer, and the good times to be had here, I look forward to coming back and having a meal.
Stumbled across this place by accident. It just happened to be next to the only street parking spot we could find on this crazy, busy Saturday. Lucky find! Best burger ever!! And the service was even better! Wanted to split a cheeseburger with my mom but she wanted it cooked medium rare and I wanted medium well. We laughed and told him medium. Lo and behold, when the food came, my half was medium well and my mom's was medium rare!!! Would come here more often if I lived closer!
Review Source:Breakfast & booze how can you go wrong? Stopped in for an early morning bloody Mary. When I walked in the bartender said can I get you a bloody Mary? How did he know!! He was reading my mind for sure.
Didn't notice they served breakfast until we got in here. I think I remember breakfast from being here before but sure didn't remember. I don't think we've eaten here but once before- the food wasn't too bad at all. I had the calamari and I think DH had the burger. I want breafast here tomorrow. I'll take pictures!! So stay tuned!!
The bartender in the morning hours is a hoot! I really like him. The place is nice and quiet for a Satuday morning. Unusual I think for Hood River.
My bloody Mary was nice & spicy with plenty veggies to recupe me from last nights festivities. Will be there again  soon enough!
Best Restaurant in Hood River! Went for my husband's Birthday and all 8 people absolutely loved their different fantastic menu items. Great atmosphere, friendly funny owners and staff, savory food, good drinks :) I recommend this place to everyone.
Hint- Start your meal with the hummus platter ;)
OK, Waucoma Club..I gave you another shot - Here is an update. I went in for breakfast Sunday morning. Here are my thoughts...
It was sweet to watch the Women's World Cup Game. Your server was sweet. The place was clean. I liked the selection on the menu. Not too many choices, which is nice for me. I hate the places that offer you 20 different egg scrambles..what the crap? Homemade and made from scratch is fantastic, but it was damn slow! We were the only ones in there and it still took forever! Â I ordered the Migas. Â It was all tortilla and no egg....and HUGE chuncks of garlic. Â Eek! Â I ordered sour cream on the side and it came with a huge dallop smack in the middle. Â This place lacks natural light. Â It's cool during the night, but when it's a beautiful sunny day, being in a dark restaurant/bar is not ideal. Â I walked out of there eyes squinting, forgetting how bright the sun is..my eyes, my eyes!
I stand by my first review. Go for drinks, or a show, but not my 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice for food in Hood River.
We had a very delicious lunch here yesterday.
The crab salad was the best with big chunks of dungeness crab, mango and a light lime vinegar dressing - really yummy. The Cuban sandwich was sooooooo tasty  - definitely better than anything I have eaten on the East Coast.
Good selection of micro brewery beers, friendly bartender and an all around good energy place. We highly recommend this restaurant.
We entered to a cozy warm welcome. Staff was very attentive and pleasant - upon eating, the owner noticed that the well known rent a cop, whom everyone in hr greatly adores, was writing us a ticket for failing to place money in the meter - not only did he rush out to give the meter maid money as to avoid him finalizing our hefty fine, they also took care of our ticket once the damage had been done. Food and service was outstanding the rest of our time there. If you're looking for a welcoming environment with some kick ass food his is the place to go.
Cheers,
Marcus and Nikole
The best bar we experienced in Hood River given the drink selection. (Though I must admit that I was a tad disappointed that they weren't serving the summer drinks at the end of October. Eh well.)
Friday night, there was a live ... funk? ... band. It was a band, and the members looked very Pacific Northwestern, which I found quite endearing. Saturday night, a DJ took over, but sadly not that many patrons were there to enjoy it! He spun hip-hop primarily, and even scratched the vinyl a bit. So. Much. Fun. The six of us singlehandedly kept the party going.
The owner was great, too, and made sure to welcome us back to watch football before we all left for the East Coast the next day.
