We recently ate here for my Mom's 60th birthday. Â We had a party of 10. Â When I arrived I scanned the yelp reviews and was disappointed to see some really negative reviews (especially the older ones) but my parents explained that they had a new chef, and he was really good. Â (Which turned out to be true.) Â And we also had an amazing waiter, a guy named Dru, who's probably one of the best waiters I've ever had.
The chef sent out complimentary ceviche (I'm assuming because it was her 60th) and we tried the Passion Fruit Ceviche and the Rocotto Pepper Ceviche. Â These were delicious. I mean, AMAZING. Â Everyone at the table talked about how good they were.
Next I had the crab salad, and this was good, but a little heavy on the dressing for my taste, but my mom loved it. Â (She had a few bites.)
I had the special, which was whitefish with clams, chorizo sausage, and a saffron broth. Â This was quite good, but not as amazing as the Ceviche.
For desert, I had the Bombon Cubano, which is a flourless chocolate cake with tres-leches ice-cream. Â Holy @&!#, the ice cream was AMAZING. Â This was really, really good.
I want to mention our waiter again, Dru, who was one of those guys who was just there the whole night, super on-it and friendly. Â This is the type of guy who MAKES a fancy restaurant, because the service was exceptional.
I'd say the food was actually a 4.5 star, the service a 5 star, but the ambiance of the restaurant, while very trendy and attractive, is really noisy, and it's hard to hear, so I'd put that closer to 3 stars. Â Overall, I think this place deserves much better reviews than it gets. Â It's really fabulous.
When we booked our stay at Costa d'Este we also made a reservation for The Wave. I read the mixed reviews and wasn't sure what to expect for our dinner experience.
We had a wonderful meal! Being big fans of yucca fries, my husband and I decided to start with an order of them and they were fantastic. I ordered the Pollo de Churrasco and it was great, but the highlight of my dish were definitely the sweet plantains. My husband enjoyed the ceviche sampler and said he would order it again along with a caesar salad.
We ended our meal with the key lime tart and raspberry sorbet. Phenomenal! I'm not even a huge key lime fan, but I'm pretty sure I could eat that dessert every day and not get tired of it.
The service and overall experience was great and I'd definitely eat there again for dinner.
Overrated, pretentious, and possibly the loudest restaurant in America. Â It is impossible to carry on a conversation with dinner partners. Â Food is only part of a dining experience. Â Atmosphere is also important, and that was definitely poor. Â If you don't mind not talking to your friends at dinner, then this is the restaurant for you. Â The decibel level may violate OSHA guidelines, I don't know. Â We left and won't be back. Â if you want a fantastic meal with a cool atmosphere go to Will 55, instead.
