Been here a few times with friends to watch the game. Â It's an absolutely terrific environment. Â
Comfortable seating, generous space for group activity. Â I hate Irish style bars that are cramped. Â this is NOT one of them.
The wings are terrific and the beer on tap is limited but still a quality selection.  Great place to checkout if you're young or old  .
The Guinness is OK and they get a decent crowd in the place
Food is nothing to write home about
They really need to work on the entertainment though - or just play recorded music.
I was in there one Thursday and the musician was quite good.
Another week they had no music and then a few weeks later we came back and the guy had no clue about Irish music and was playing from the sheet music - if he did not have the sheet music he could not play it. Â Just don't understand why they would even hire this person
So feeling the St. Patricks day spirit - what better place to go than an Irish Pub. Housed in the old Hartwell house building ( with the Pond out front) just outside the gates to Hanscom field, we found this to be a delightful place to get a bite to eat, a refreshing pint of Guiness, or you choice of several other beverages, and a bit of Irish Pub Food. I Had a classic Reuben on Marble Rye, my partner opted for a traditional bacon cheeseburger. As an appetizer we had Ultimate Nachos which feature Waxys Crisps which are vinegar potato chips (available sepe
rately with onion dip) which are kind of like thick cape cod chips- and to die for. Fascinatingly the bar has four tables , one in each corner with seating for four with their own taps- bud light and Guiness. The waitress turns on the taps and as Jackie Gleason used to say , "Away we Go Norton!"
Waxy's serves traditional Irish fare, salads, sandwiches, flatbread pizzas and entrees, and has an extensive beer and drink menu. The pub, located at 94 Hartwell Ave., offers darts and pool tables, plus live shows and karaoke nights. Gave it only four stars but could very easily been inclined for five-maybe next time. Â (one of the ways i can always tell if the place is great is that we are discussing what we will get next time as we drive away lol. Great place try it!
Okay, officially my favorite place to stop and have a beer. These guys are phenomenal. Â Food is fair fare. Â Not a five star dining place, but the best three star food fo sho! Â Greatest bar staff and wonderful table service. BTW, go ahead and sit at your own damn tap and serve it like you want it! Â This is truly where everyone knows your name! Â Come ride the Irish Bull!
Review Source:I visited Waxy's tonight with the anticipation to use a $50 Christmas gift card (which was some how misplaced between leaving the house and the ride to the restaurant)- the manager was able to track down the gift card by looking up the credit card it was purchased with (while the restaurant was very busy) and hand us a replacement. Â The food was great although the service was a little slow - but was anticipated as the place was packed. Â The crowd is a good mix of social drinkers around the bar and families at the tables. Â Overall a great choice for Saturday night dining.
Review Source:I wish I could give ZERO stars. I'm actually still sitting in the restaurant. I can't even wait to get home. Presently here with coworkers.
The majority of the staff with whom we interacted have been very rude. The waitress takes the cake. Did not introduce herself, simply yelled at us "what do you drink?" Very very very rude. Was not cordial at all. When she took out orders, she simply, and literally, pointed at us and said "Go!" She slammed plates down and was very short and curt with us.
I would never come back here, even to have just a beer. This bill will be the last money I spend here, and I suggest you don't even waste your time.
The food. Bland. Flavorless. The fries resemble Mcdonalds fries that have been microwaved. My buddy got a burger and when he tried to ask for it well done, the waitress retorted angrily that "it only comes one way"
Waxy's is a great place to hang out at after work for a beer and some grub. Food is decent enough for bar food, good beers on tap and friendly bar tenders. This place is really what you make out of it. A very chill setting/environment with dim lit bar and restaurant area, live music, pool, darts. The price is fair for the area and quality of service. They have these cool tables where there is a tap in the hull of the table and you serve yourself right there at the table. Thought that was pretty neat! Check it out if you're ever in the Lexington area, great place!
Review Source:I was on a business trip to Lexington, MA, and when I got to town, I was hungry. So I Googled on my phone for what restaurants were nearby. One of them was Waxy O'Connors Irish Pub. That sounded good and I could use a beer after the long flight.
Arrived at the pub. I must admit - it's a pretty impressive looking place. Kind of reminded me of a small country club. Very nice wood work inside and a HUGE bar right in the middle of the place.
Anyway, sat myself at the bar, ordered a pint of beer and asked for a menu. Browsing through the menu that had quite a few tasty sounding items, all typical fare for an Irish style pub. I saw clam chowder on the menu, which sounded like a good starter. So I only ordered the soup and would maybe order something else after the soup.
Soup came. It looked delicious. I eat a spoonful and was surprised at the taste in my mouth - there was a sour taste to it. It almost seemed like there was sour cream mixed in with it. I've had New England style clam chowder many, many times in my life, and this folks would have to be the worst. I don't know - maybe there was just something wrong with it at that moment on that day.
I ended up finishing the soup (I was hungry), all of the provided oyster crackers (to stifle the sour taste of the soup), and my beer. Paid and left. Considering that the "New England" style clam chowder was just not that good in an Irish Pub in Massachusetts, shame on you. -2 stars.
However, I ended up coming back with a work associate a few days later, but ordering the fish and chips this time instead (along with a few pints). Absolutely delicious! Probably some of the BEST (and biggest) fish and chips I have ever had. The [bar] waitress was quite friendly and socially entertaining, and the atmosphere was great.
I would definitely return again (the next time I'm in Lexington) and try something else on the menu (and maybe a cup of the chowder again, just for verification purposes to determine that it just wasn't a bad day for chowder).
I have been in town a week and avoided coming here because of the rating. I drove by and this place is HUGE, beautiful, and the parking lot was full. So I read the reviews and went for it. The food is traditional Irish or good food with and Irish twist. They had an amazing beer selection, Irish whisky, and Scotch. I was asked by 2 different wait staff if I needed anything, the food was quick, and yummy. They have live music on Thurs and with the business of the restaurant I had great service. It was a bit noisy for a family, but if your Irish your loud anyway. Great find and great place. Coming back on my next business trip for sure!
Review Source:Yeah, not so good. I ordered a chicken caesar salad and a beer after a round of golf. The beer was cold and good. (But it's beer, so that's not too hard.) My "grilled chicken," however, was somewhere between plastic and rubber.
Nice atmosphere, though. Spacious, comfortable, and very clean bathrooms. Still, it's a restaurant. The food should be way better.
Never again, unless it's for drinks only.
Met some work friends here after work Friday night. Â The place was very loud (although there didn't seem to be that big of a crowd). Â
The drinks were great, our waitress was good too.
However the food - how does this place stay open? Â We shared an order of potato skins. Â Tasteless, and served cold. Â We also shared a burger, while the burger was good the bun was cheap and not fresh. Â The fries served with the burger were tasteless, cold and soggy.
Really, how does this place stay in business? Â Management needs to wake up to the horrible food they are serving.
I can't comment on the food, hostess or waitstaff. However, the bartenders were very attentive last Saturday night.
The first time I went to order a couple of drinks, the bartender saw me coming and waited at the bar until I got there to get my order.
The second time, I stood there with my husband after we order drinks and two other bartenders (independently of each other) came by to see if we needed anything.
The prices are average-- $13.50 for a Guinness and a pinot grigio. The bar is huge and nice to mingle in.
Went in for dinner with my family. Â We decided to sit at the bar and had fast service that was great!! Â Our bartender/server was Corinne & was not only efficient, but she had a great sense of humor!! Â I had the Ruben sandwich which was made with perfectly cooked, thickly sliced corned beef - it was delicious!!!! Â
I will definitely be making a return trip!
Waxy's is an Irish pub located on Hartwell in Lexington so it is close to a lot of businesses in the area. We went with a large group of coworkers after work for drinks and dinner. The beer selection was average. The bartenders were quick. However, most of the tables in the bar area are reserved for dinner, so there is no gathering place if you go with a group of people. Â A small group stayed for dinner. I got a margarita pizza and enjoyed it.
It's a good meeting place for after work with average to good food pub style food.
I seriously wish I could give this place ZERO stars. Â I don't even understand why it's still in business. Â I know it's my own fault for going back to Waxy's but there aren't many "pubs" on the north shore. Â But this last time I went, will DEFINITELY be my last. Â I wouldn't even write another review about it, but the experience that I had needs to be noted. Â In short, we sat at the bar and ordered beers and buffalo tenders. Â The buffalo tenders came out and after my boyfriend had eaten about 3 of them he decided to look at the center and realized that they were completely raw! Â We told the bartender and he didn't seem overly surprised that this had happened. Â He said he was going to make us a new batch even though we really didn't want them. Â The thing that really made me mad was then he never came back and never took the gross, raw chicken away from the bar. Â I had to put it all together and give it to a different bartender about 20minutes later. Â After about 45minutes, and the new batch of tenders haven't come out, we asked for the check. Â The bartender noticed the tenders hadn't come out yet and said..."let me go get them". Â We said we didn't want them anymore and he said that he'll wrap them up for us to take home. Â THEN...we get the bill....THE RAW CHICKEN TENDERS WERE STILL ON THE BILL! Â I think back on the situation and I can't believe I didn't say anything. Â Probably because my boyfriend was there and I know he would have told me not to make a big deal about it. Â
Next day, boyfriend goes to work, takes the "new" tenders with him, heats them up, cuts into one, and THEY ARE RAW TOO! Â Unbelievable!
This place needs a Bar Rescue!
I need to update my previous review after returning to try the entrees. Â Previously we enjoyed drinks and appetizers and found the beer selection limited but the appetizers just fine, but the entrees didn't hold up to a 4-star standard. Â All the entrees were overly salted. Â
I ordered the steak tips, which is always a risky dinner choice in a pub restaurant. Â They came out huge, tough, and undercooked. Â If the meat isn't tender, then please cut'em up and make sure they're not raw in the center.
Waxy O'Connor's was still fun, and they improved the beer selection a bit since last time, including one local microbrew selection. Â So I'd still go for drinks and apps after work, but for dinner I'll make plans elsewhere.
Was in the area for business and ended up going to Waxy's several times with colleagues. It was very convenient to where we were staying, and the food was good.
Although the service wasn't as good, I didn't mind returning on several consecutive days as it was better than average pub food. It was always relatively busy, which is usually a good sign.
The best dish I had was the shrimp and penne in vodka sauce. I also had the fried calamari, burger, buffalo chicken pizza, mussels, and chicken wings, all of which were good. I did end up ordering the chocolate cake several times, as it was gooey, warm, and delicious.
I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Waxy's, but given that I was stuck in the area, it was not bad at all.
A little too big to be a typical Irish Pub but decent for the area it is in. Unfortunately the "regulars" seem to be suits working in the area. Not the typical feel you would get from a smaller pub in the city. Food is decent, portions good size. Beer selection is great. They also have a few tables with taps. Only a few beers at each and selection varies. Good if you have 4 or more in a party. I prefer a smaller pub like Tommy Doyles but if I'm in Lexington I'd go back.
Review Source:I grew up in the area so my review could be skewed.
Over all this location is cursed. It has changed hands several times over the years and with the most recent establishment being Waxy O"Connors.
A group of us decided to grab drinks/food on a Friday night and I had high hopes as the area needs a good "gastro-pub". Unfortunately Waxy's falls short.
This place is a concept bar. Â At most Waxy's is confused suburban version of "The Kells" in Brighton. The food is average and while there are a few cool concepts (tables with individual kegs, dart boards and billards) it is nothing I would frequent often. Maybe it is because I am in my 30's but the music was too loud and the beers on tap were just lacking any interest. I was hoping to see stuff like Pretty Things, Harpoon or something unique.
While our server was good the staff behind the bar was either understaffed or having a bad day. I really hoped they would be able to break the locations curse but my gut says different.
I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Â
I usually do not post anything, but the food and the service was so bad I felt like I needed to say something. Â The wait staff is terrible. Â The waitress was not helpful whatsoever. Â She forgot a salad for the table and did not apologize, did not say anything but "oh I miss counted" then walked off and she was rude. Â The Panini's were all cold when we finally got our food 1 hr 15 mins later. Â The food is bland, there's no taste. Â I have tasted cafeteria food that is better than that. Â The food is way over priced for the quality. Â Even the key lime pie was terrible. Â
To add to the overall terrible meal experience, there were about 4 flies that kept flying around and landing in our food. Â Also, if you have large parties STAY AWAY! Â They refused to split our check for 10 people saying that it was too difficult to do and when we got the bill there was 20% gratuity added to it. Â THAT IS 20% TOO MUCH for the service that we got! Â
I will never go to Waxy's again unless the wait staff is changed and the head chef. Â This was one of the most unpleasant lunch experiences I have ever had. Â
DO NOT go here for lunch unless you have 2 hrs to waste, you don't like food and you like to be treated poorly!
Reader Beware: This review is biased due to the close proximity of Waxy's to my place of business (directly across the street) and the fact that my current Yelp profile picture (me kissing the Stanley Cup) was recently taken here.
While I frequent Waxy's for after work drinks and impromptu Stanley Cup showings, I don't eat here very often. Their food isn't great, but it isn't total crap either. It's Irish pub food. If you go there expecting 5 star cuisine then you need to seriously re-evaluate your life.
The simple fact is that the beer is always cold, drinks are always mixed just right and particular bartenders will always remember your face and drink. Which, for someone like me who drinks something different every night, can pose a problem. Add to that their 2 tap tables that you can reserve and pour your own beer, and you've got yourself a pretty rad (yes, rad) little pub in the middle of Lexington.
It is also important to note that as a female in her mid-20s, the constant stream of Airmen from nearby Hanscom Air Force Base is a much appreciated form of eye candy and occasional conversation. Â Both the service and the soldiers here have never disappointed.
Go to Waxy's if you enjoy being an afterthought for frrrrrumpy young hostesses engrossed in conversation. Â It won't matter, of course, if you're there to drink, hang out, and watch a game because that's when you'll eat anything. Â
Skip it altogether for lunch unless you want to have my experience: Â unremarkable food and slooooow service.
My son ordered a chicken and cheddar panini that was completely bland; something you might find at a hospital cafeteria. Â After a couple of bites, he sent it back and exchanged it for a corned beef and Swiss sandwich that was not a Reuben. Â We had that wrapped to go. Â
I ordered the Caprese salad with medium rare steak tips (that didn't turn out too badly) and, 40 minutes or so after ordering, I had to ask what was taking so long.  The waitress told me they were working on the steak tips and I had  to remind her that I ordered medium-rare, not well done (thank heavens I didn't have to rush back to the office).
For dessert, we split a Turtle cheesecake that was as boring as everything else.
I don't know what the problem is but, with so many dining options, this isn't where I'll go back to eat unless I'm desperate or ever have one too many and anything will do. Â However, Â I doubt I'll go that far out of the way for merely mediocre.
Waxy's appearance and after-work crowds belie the quality of their food. Â Final verdict: this is nothing more than a big saloon with a kitchen. Â Enjoy your alcohol revenues!!!
Ok, I gotta it back down to 3 stars here.
Nothing particularly wrong with Waxy's, but nothing particularly great, either.
Been for beers after work - they get some credit for the big bar and spacious layout. They lose a little for the lack of parking. The beer selection is not exciting - sad since Margarita's down the street has some great selections like Dogfish Head and Oskar Blues.
Had some apps that were generic and bland. Second lunch there was this week - steak and cheese sammich. Nice that they offer soup or salad, but there's nothing special about either. My sandwich had decent beef, but meager onions and cheese, not even filling the boring crummy sub roll. The fish sandwich looked like a much better choice - maybe nex time.
The good news, fries have improved since my last review.
Have you ever been at dinner and the only thing you can think about is "I can't wait to get home and write a review on yelp?" Â Well this was one of those times, and it wasn't a good review that I was eager to write.
Okay, lets first start off with what pissed me off in the beginning. Â We arrive a little after 8. Â Guy tells us it will be a 20-25 minute wait. Â Alright. Â That's fine with us. Â My boyfriend grabs a beer from the bar and we hang out relatively close to the hostess stand.
After waiting, I start thinking "Man it feels like its been longer than 20 minutes" and I look at the time and it is 9 o clock. Â I ask my boyfriend to go check to see how much longer. Â He goes up to the hostess stand to question how much longer. Â Our name is still on the list. Â There are names after ours crossed off. Â He is told by a girl "I'll go find you guys a table." Â No apology. Â No explanation as to why we were waiting so long. Â Nothing.
So she walks us to the back behind the bar where all the tables are and 1/2 of the tables are freaking empty. Â So why were we waiting for 45 minutes?
So at this point, I'm fuming and can barely even concentrate on the menu, but I pull it together to find something to order. Â I order the Chicken Pot Pie and my boyfriend gets the Shepherds Pie.
The food comes out relatively fast, or at least it seemed that way compared to the time we were waiting for a table. Â Well lets just say that the food did not save my mood. Â My Chicken Pot Pie (though I'm not even sure I could appropriately call it a pot pie) was absolutely horrible. Â It was basically a bowl of gravy and peas, with about 5 chunks of chicken, and 2 chunks of carrot, and then a piece of flakey bread resting on top. Â My boyfriend's Shepherds Pie was simply okay. Â It was more edible than my pot pie, but we wouldn't have a desire to ever eat it again.
The table service wasn't the best either. Â I don't think our waitress stuck around at our table longer than 2 seconds at a time, most of the time she just dropped something off AS she was walking. Â
I will never step foot back into this place again, and whenever I hear anyone talking about it, I will advise them not to go here either. Â Maybe it's okay for just a night at the bar, however spare yourself for dinner.
Nice to find an Irish Pub in Lexington. Â Fun, lively atmosphere. Â The evening we went there was an Irish band playing which was fabulous. Â We had a wonderful attentive waitress and the food was very nice for pub fare. Â There is a great bar, a nice pool table and you can even play darts! Â Not your usual Lexington find, but it was a nice change. Â I would go back. Â My husband enjoyed his steak tips and potatoes, and my chicken dinner was very nice. Â Not gourmet, but nice. Â I only wish they served Irish bread....my only complaint is no bread while you wait. Â If they had nice hot Irish bread I would of left 4 stars.... We will go back.
Review Source:At 8:00 on a Friday night this huge bright green "pub" was packed with young professionals - majority were guys watching sports and drinking beer. Â A scene more common in the city but nice for people who work in the offices nearby.
We waited in relative comfort, enjoying our beers, for a half-hour for a table for four. Â Our waitress seemed focused on rushing us through the meal, asked if we wanted drinks while we drank the beers we'd ordered at the bar. Â So we doubled up. The food arrived quickly, and the waitress was back even faster while I was still eating my main course. Â She started to take away my plate! Â I appreciate fast service when ordering drinks at the bar but servers should know to change gears at meal time.
My salmon panko with garlicky sinach and savory crisp squash was surprisingly fantastic. Â Perfectly cooked. Well done Waxy.
The server rushed us to our dessert order so I had chocolate cake (fair) with the beer I was still drinking. Â No water or other beverages offered. Â Didn't like that Waxy.
It is a bar and it was loud. During our meal there was live Irish music (a couple guys playing) and the constant roar of bar talk. It was a little hard to hear but reminded us old farts of the days before marriage and kids.
Around 9:30 somebody turned the music system up so loud that it was distorted. Â That was unfortunate and stupid. Â At that point it was hard just to sit in the place because the distortion was so uncomfortable to bear. Â So that got us up and movin' out.
On our way out, we passed inspection by the bouncer, who seemed to be closely observing inebriation levels. Â Maybe tell that waitress not to double up the beer orders, eh?
Came here for lunch and had the fish sandwich. It was fried well enough, but the portion of fish to bread was way off. Like others have said the fries were soggy, and i'm not a fan of soggie fries. I like the beer selection, all your usualy suspects in an Irish joint, and the decor is good, but the food just failed to impress and I doubt I'll be back.
Review Source:The second star is only because we went their for my dear friend's birthday. And given we were with fabulous friends it wasn't SO bad.
That said...between the 1 1/2+ wait for a table, the dirty dishes all over the bar, and food that was passable-I'm not sure where to start.
Ok let me try something positive...the restaurant is huge & the decor is really nice. There. I said something nice. Oh and there was a pool table & darts.
Wish I could give it 0 stars.
Horrible service. Â HORRIBLE SERVICE. Â On a very busy Saturday lunch, there was only ONE waiter. Â There were two bartenders sitting on there thumbs playing with themselves, not helping at all. Â When we asked them for a refill (we had to goto the bar since the waiter was slammed) - they gave us an attitude, and didn't even help out the waiter to bring the drinks to our table. Â Jerks.
Sounds like this place is exactly what Lexington needs. Â However, they need to get there act together, or Lexington is going to need another place.
I would avoid.
Two stars for the beef stew tasting pretty good. VERY slow service. Also despite the stew tasting good, I'm pretty sure it made me sick. After we left I felt like there was a brick in my stomach for the next 10 hours. I doubt we'd go back.
Don't look online at the menu for Foxboro and expect it to be the same as the Lexington one. This one has a much smaller menu, seems like they're trying to appear "upscale". No keno in the bar either.
I doubt I'll go back.
One of the worst irish pubs I've been to. Went to lunch with a bunch of friends and ordered beef stew. My food came back cold and it was disgusting. Most of my friends food was lukewarm to cold. They reheated my beef stew and it was bubbling - microwaved. Needless to say, I didn't eat it.
My friend got his chicken soup after everyone else did - it's chicken soup. How did chicken soup end up being the last one served???? Also, we waited almost an hour for our food. Waitress was slow, manager didn't do the rounds and see how we were doing - for a business that just opened, thought this was weird.
I would never go back here again.
