For a steamed lobster this was perfect. Â After reading the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect, but everything was excellent. Â Lobster was prepared well, sides were delicious. The bowl of clam chowder was perfect and suitable to split.. Â We had a great meal, the bread basket was filled with warm fresh bread. Â Great dessert as well. Â Menu was awesome and I can't wait to go back and try another meal. The 5th star is because I went home (and woke up,the next day)feeling healthy without an upset stomach that can sometimes accompany eating out at a restaurant that uses poor quality ingredients. I overall a terrific lobster place.
Review Source:After a day at the outlets we came here looking to purchase some scallops & fish to take home, but alas, I was informed that their retail operations have been closed since January. Â You wouldn't be able to tell from their website that still proclaims them as a "fish market". Â Update your website fool!
Review Source:Living along the shoreline and being a big fan of seafood, it's a mystery to me how I never visited Westbrook Lobster before last week.
The inside looks like something taken from the "Rusty Barnacle" restaurant in The Simpsons. At any moment I expected a peg legged sea captain to come walking around the corner and say "Arrrrrrrrr".
Our waitress was aloof and forgot to add, not one, but two place settings to our table. When we brought it to her attention, no apology was given.
My food was nothing to write home about. The lobster bisque was absolutely awful. By awful, I mean it contained very little lobster. At most it had one speck of lobster about the size of a pencil eraser head. I don't understand how a cook scooping out the bisque could not see my bowl contained 0.05% meat.
My linguini with clams was also sub par. I've had much better at other restaurants. Plus, maybe I'm just spoiled because my mom makes a kick-ass linguini with clam sauce.
All in all, I'd have a hard time returning to Westbrook Lobster.
This was one of my favorites. There have been changes over the year to the fascility but there needs to be more if they want to be competitive. Too many decorations from Marshall's Home Goods and not enough thought. The food is usually excellent and the service is really good. The kids menu is great.
The interior is so dated and poorly maintained. This is one resturant I wish I could buy because I know I could make a killing with their food and staff.
I can't seem to understand how this place has such a great review! I went here a few months ago and would never go back. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but it was horrible. Our clam chowder and lobster bisque were lacking flavor and borderline cold. My boyfriend got a lobster roll which lacked lobster and in fact we thought it was a crappy langostino. It was VERY overpriced. The only reasons they are getting one star is because of the fast service (maybe they should have took longer though and heated our food correctly) and our waitress was nice.
Review Source:Stopped for dinner and gotta say it was pretty average. Â Was not overly impressed at all. Â The Calamari was the highlight of the meal (get it Rhode Island style). Â
Pass on the paella. Â It was not even close to a paella, it was more of a seafood stew served over rice. Â What a let down. Â The lobster mac and cheese was decent. Â Not the best we have had, but it was good.
Was super pleased with the kids menu here. Â I am so tired of going places and they only serve garbage (chicken fingers, hot dogs and grilled cheeses) for the kids. Â This place had portions of fish, salmon, and mini lobster rolls for the kids. Â Mine chose the lobster rolls and were in heaven. Â That right there earned them another star from me.
A little run down and could use some improvements. Â Service was decent.
I miss the market, they remodeled and expanded the bar. Â Bar seems to be the focus now, last two times we ate there the food was ok but not even a thank you for our business. Â The last time we ate there is the last time we will. Â If my patronage isn't worth a "thanks for stopping in" then you really don't want me back.
Review Source:We enjoyed a terrific dinner last night at Westbrook. Our appetizers were  fantastic, mussels, clams on the half shell, clam fritters. Two of my guests had 2# lobsters and they really enjoyed them. They have a good beer list as well as value wines that were reasonably priced.
The service is what really got my attention. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive and professional.
We look forward to going back
The only seafood place that's worse than this is their Wallingford location. Â Took a client for lunch and the fish was this steamed/mashed mess topped with breadcrumbs...and it just smelled. Â Client had a lobster roll with more cartilage.type.meat, on a soggy bun. Â Think he ate it as a courtesy because I suggested it. Â At least a filet.o.fish tastes decent and won't make u sick.
Review Source:We loved this restaurant! We found it by accident while just driving down the road on a rainy day in September. The sign said $15 lobster dinners! We turned right in and truly enjoyed everything we ordered. The calm chowder was by far the BEST we've ever had. Everything was so good! We can't wait to visit the area again and we'll probably eat there almost everyday to try some of the different menu items.
Review Source:No longer a fish market but the restaurant is better than ever- adding a larger bar this spring. Had a quick lunch today that was excellent- very quiet time of year on the shoreline but the food was hot and fresh. Can't wait to return when the new bar is finished. Love the chowder and clam fritters- hot dogs are great too!
Review Source:I really hoped to have a nice fish dinner but can't really say much about this place. I am not sure how anyone could rate it higher. We started with clam chowder which tasted OK but was just Luke warm. The portion was tiny for the price! I had fish and chips and thought that frozen fishsticks tasted better. Â It tasted like it was made ahead and just heated up when served. I could not eat more than a few bites. The onion-rings were OK but certainly not anything special. My dining partner had a hot lobster roll and said it tasted OK but there was not much lobster. Â All of this "just OK food" ended up costing over $50 with the tip. I would have had just as good of a meal with a can of Cambells Chowder and some frozen fishsticks and would have had enough money left to go and get a great fish dinner somewhere else!
Review Source:We have been for dinner several times over the summer - always near full - the food is well prepared for a Shoreline restaurant, probably one of the better choices. Â I don't particularly like fried food, but these guys do a good job.
What I really wanted to say was that the fish market side of Westbrook Lobster is a Shoreline gem! Â We normally get our food at a large supermarket in the area - but - the fish here is absolutely fabulous. Â Try the cod, stuffed clams, salmon steaks, tuna steaks - just about anything you can think of - is very fresh and a cut above other local choices.
The across-the-board quality nosedive in recent years, both here and at their Wallingford location, is nothing short of astounding. What once got a strong recommendation from me now gets a warning of avoidance to friends and family. If you're going to serve this food at these prices, you're not being honest with yourself nor your customers. I realize these are difficult times for the restaurant business, but to be so disingenuous with customers who have a plethora of local options (especially during the summertime) is utterly confounding. The lack of authenticity was further conveyed by the wait staff, who are forced to pretend that they are working in a fancier place than they actually are. Ownership either needs to rethink the image and branding here, or just lose the restaurant side of the house and concentrate solely on the adjacent fish market business.
Review Source:Driving on the Connecticut shore Fourth of July weekend.  We were hesitating between this place and one with an outdoor deck down the street.  We chose Westbrook Lobster because it had higher food ratings. We arrived around 1:30pm and the restaurant was not half full.  If you are looking for an outdoor fun atmosphere, this is not the place, but the food is decent. We ordered the lobster bisque (tasty but a little too thick), new England clam chowder (ok), steamers (a little overcooked for our taste but ok; recommend going across the street to Lenny's Fish Tales  for better), lobster salad roll (a little heavy on the celery, but good) and  the lazyman's lobster (tender, juicy and tasty). The prices are decent for  fresh seafood.  We found our waitress to be very knowledgeable of the dishes but the food is slow to come out if you are hungry.
Review Source:You can't always judge a restaurant by it's exterior. Inside the dull exterior is one of the nicest seafood restaurants on the CT shore.
Inside it's a homey, old-fashioned sort of place with cute nautical curtains and knotty pine paneling. The evening we went it had an older crowd of regulars lining its comfy booths, but that's fine with me. I'd trade a 'scene' for good food and warm hospitality anyday!
Westbrook Lobster has that perfect restaurant trifecta: super fresh, well-prepared seafood; genuinely warm, professional service; and reasonable prices!
The meal started with warm rolls and water garnished with lemon--a nice touch. The menu had so many tempting entrees it was hard to choose one. But I quickly decided on a lobster dinner when I saw all the other happy diners enjoying theirs.
My steamed lobster dinner was perfectly cooked and cracked in all the right places for easy pickins. I opted for mashed potatoes (although you could get fries or rice with it) and mixed veg with a glass of white wine. It was all superb! Easily the freshest lobster I've had outside of a Maine lobster pound, and believe me, I've eaten a lot of lobster in my day!
Their wine list is a bargain for the area, too.
I only had 2 regrets: not having room for dessert and not living closer!
This place is disgusting. DISGUSTING. Â I really don't even want to give it one star.
Here is my question, why is it that so many  CT shoreline seafood restaurants can get away with being dirty, out of date, and serve weak, gross, unimaginative food?
How is this place in business? Â The decor is straight out of 1985, and the lighting is fluorescent and awful. Â To top that off, it stinks, worse than most seafood restaurants, as it seems they have some kind of lobster shipping thing going on in the back- IN THE SAME BUILDING.
The building is really ugly and depressing, but the food is just terrible. Â They serve a lot of fried stuff, most of which is only ordered by 85 year olds who lost their taste buds in the 70's. Â I only went there twice, once with a couple people who wanted lobster in the summer, and once to meet some relatives...OLD relatives, who are out of touch.
I swear, I think the people who gave this a good review have bad taste or are just nuts. Â One of my friends said it best, "It's just wierd there."
It really is, and I think CT needs to step it up a notch with their restaurants, it's like Connecticut restaurants only have two demographics, rich and classy, or poor and disgusting. Â Where are all the "in-between" restaurants???
Westbrook Lobster is gross, depressing and stinks, literally.
Lots
of
seafood
Westbrook Lobster is probably my favorite seafood restaurant in Clinton.  My wife and I have been going there for years and have never been disappointed  We like just about everything on the menu, especially the clams, salmon dishes, and of course the lobster.  It's grown quite a bit over the years, and is now more of a classic sit down place, but still retains that quaint, little shoreline take out feel.
I love seafood. I ordered salmon that had an artichoke and spinach encasement. It came with french fries and delicious string beans. I wouldn't say it was the best salmon I have ever had, or really, anything close to the best. But it was good.
The waitress was way too busy. The conclusion was that my crazy water drinking habit wasn't entertained. The coffee was surprisingly great so definitely don't pass that up.
If I liked lobster I would have tried that since I assume that is what they specialize in. So go here for lobster AND coffee and I am sure you will walk away extremely satisfied.
