They had beef ribs which was a plus. Â But they were awfully bland. Â My other half had parmigiana. Â Also incredibly bland. Had a nice outdoor seating area... with tiny plastic chairs that no respectable large man wants to sit in. Â And our waitress completely forgot about us outside. Â No drink refills, and about 30 minutes after we finished eating we went inside to pay the bill. Â Maybe if I were simply there to have drinks and play darts it would have been more enjoyable.
Review Source:With a new chef in the kitchen and an what appears to be a big focus on quality, my last 4 dining experiences in the past 2 months here have been excellent! Don't hold the ownership of the Lazy Dog against them. I have had the Mad Dog Chili several times and is an excellent starter. I have tried their 1/2 pound angus burgers which are very tasty. I also ordered the pastrami on marble rye which was very lean and tasted real good. Finally I ordered 1/2 rack of their signature ribs which were cooked perfectly and had an awesome BBQ sauce. As most have mentioned their beer selection is good, all the bartenders are great and the young waitstaff are friendly, attentive and easy on the eyes! The outside patio is open and adds a nice feel despite the busy & noisy route 20 traffic. Give them a try instead of Longhorn or Five Guys.
Review Source:I stop by every few months or so to gorge on their all you can eat fish and chips. The typically comes out fast and is flavorful. Pair with the crisp and hot French fries I always leave happy. Â The decor is a little eighties local tavern, Â this place is "upscale" or "classy" only to people that consider tucking in a shirt is dressing up.
Review Source:Overall, I thought this was a good spot - will definitely be back next time I'm in the area. Â Draft beer selection was great - with most styles of beer represented by mostly craft breweries. Â Nachos were delicious. Â Portion isn't huge for a sports bar, but the toppings are fresh and the chicken is good grilled chicken, not some weird tasteless mechanically separated bs you'd find in a chain-restaurant made taco. Â The Buffalo wings were good, but I thought the Bourbon wings were flavorless. Â I had a steak bomb that was better than most. Â Big, piled high, cheesy, and hot. Â Fries are delicious & crispy. Â Onion 'rings' are good, but they're really onion straws. Â I prefer giant, beer-battered rings, but these straws are great to top off your sandwich. Â Everyone I was with had a salad or sandwich and they all seemed to enjoy it, but I won't get into every menu item. Â Stop going to chains down the street and support a solid locally-owned restaurant.
Review Source:We've been here three or four times in the last year and we've never had a bad meal. Â The menu is varied and we particularly like the onion strings. Â Overall I'd said the food is not high end but it's solidly decent. Â My fiance thinks the beer selection is great and I'm a fan of their inexpensive house wines. Â They have comfort-food favorites, good appetizers, salads, sandwiches and full entrees, depending on what you feel like. Â We were there for part of some entertainment as well and that complemented the dinner really well. Â There's space inside so it doesn't ever feel crowded.
We've also not yet had a particularly bad server like some of the other reviews posted here. Â Maybe we just got lucky but I can't honestly say that the service has been poor. Â The waiters and waitresses we've had have been responsive and our food has always come out within a reasonable period of time.
This place was TERRIBLE. I feel like after reading the 5-star reviews, I must've gone to a totally different place.
We went on a Saturday night around 7 and the place was pretty dead. We sat and while our waitress distributed menus, asked us what we wanted to drink. This isn't appalling and I know most people prefer to get drinks in right away, but as an "upscale sports bar" that prides itself on the craft beers it has on tap, we were all sort of surprised she didn't give us even 10 seconds to open the menu and see the selection.
There were 6 of us, which I can see being a relatively large group, but we were the ONLY party of 6 and the biggest tables in the rest of the place (I'd say about 25 tables total + the bar?) was 4, which I think is pretty standard.
Anyway, we put in our order shortly after -- 1 got a full rack of ribs, 1 pulled pork sandwich, 2 steak tips, 1 turkey tips, 1 garden salad with steak tips. No apps. FIFTY minutes after putting in our order (please remember, the place was only about 8 tables full), the waitress came back out to bring some wetnaps and a bowl to the table for the ribs and said our food would be out shortly. TWENTY minutes after that, she came back to apologize for the long wait and said, "All the big orders went in at once." I appreciate the apology, but it's been over an hour since we put our order in, we are the ONLY large party and after we thought about it -- ordered some pretty easy things: the ribs and pulled pork had to have already been cooked ahead of time and after that, it's essentially 4 orders of tips, which we all ordered medium rare: cooking time ~8 minutes?
We FINALLY got our food another 15 or 20 minutes after that and were terribly disappointed. The ribs were good, but the other 5 meals were overcooked (surprise, surprise). The turkey tips were dry with no sauce and all 3 orders of steak tips were at least well done. To top it all off, our sides of broccoli? RAW. I have NEVER been to a restaurant that serves raw vegetables with an entree.
The worst part of it all was that our waitress NEVER came back. Not once after we got our food did she stop by to ask how it all was. She returned only to clear the plates and drop off the bill and when one guest asked to wrap up the salad and get a side of dressing, the waitress told us she'd have to charge us for it even after agreeing to pay for it, the waitress promptly brought us the bill and takeout containers without the side of dressing and thankfully, not charging us for it.
LONG STORY SHORT: restaurant was maybe half-full when we entered, we waited over an hour for our food which was then terribly overcooked, our waitress never bothered to ask how the food was (maybe she knew?) and then she said she'd charge us for a side of takeout dressing, but didn't even bring it to us 2 mins later. we will NOT be giving this place another try.
I like the size of the place, and well lit. Good location. Lots of flat screens with sports. The Trivia night added a nice touch to a quick business dinner. The food was just okay. The fish and chips was a lot of breading and kinda dry. Went back later in the week and tried the crab cakes (86'd on the first visit); too dry and too much filler, not enough moist crab. Had a side Caesar salad which was good.
Review Source:I'm not really sure why this is classified as a sports bar. There are a slew of TVs, and every time I've been there, they've been tuned to news, not sports. In fact, the one time I requested that the channel be changed to sports, the TVs automatically changed themselves back to news at the change of the hour. Seriously? A "sports bar" that programmed its TVs to automatically turn to the news?
As for the service, it stinks. Make sure to order three or four rounds of drinks at a time, because it may be an hour before your waitress comes around again. This makes it almost impossible to come here for lunch, unless you don't intend to go back to work or don't have a job.
Speaking of not having a job, there are always the same 5 people sitting at the bar. It doesn't matter what time of day or day of the week you stop by - they will be there. It's like a townie bar, but it probably won't stay in business long enough to become rundown.
The food is fine, but not great, and definitely not enough to overcome the lack of service and atmosphere.
Went there because my daughter was performing. Â Waitress was rude and kept coming over telling us to order something or leave. Â We ordered drinks and an appetizer. Â With a big sigh, she brought them and asked, "Is that ALL you're going to order."
Bottom line: Â Bad service - we won't be back.
Should shorten the name to The End.
With a good blend of Civil war? Cars? Â Physics? Music? Â Hollywood? and some "WTF, How do you know that?!?!"s, Trivia Thursdays brings us back to this place time and time again. Â
We have only been here a handful of times but It helps that we have an winning track record. Â The food here is nothing to yelp about. Â Just your standard bar menu really. Â The wait staff could be better. Â Regardless, it seems that we are hooked. Â Looking forward to some more trivial fun at the Westender in the near future.
I had my first visit a week ago and have been back twice since. Â Everyone wants a neighborhood bar they can feel comfortable in and this is the place. Â From my first visit a bit dressed up to my last visit in my zumba workout gear I was greeted with a smile. Our first waitress and now a must is Samantha. The food was delicious and displayed with flair. Â The onion strings are absolutely amazing. Â I had the bbq ribs the first night recommended by Kirby the Manager. He was right. They fell off the bone. Â My friend had the blank angus burger and fries. Top notch all the way. Â We also didn't know what to drink and everyone was helpful in recomendation. Â
Thursdays are Trivia night mixed with some music and busy. Â I Â highly recommend going then. Â They have a space for bands and can't wait to see who they get next. Â Now Tuesday we had John for a bartender and waiter. Â He was upbeat, knowledgeable and made us feel at home. Â
I will be back and if you see me..say hi :)
Scene opens on a Thursday night:
You've got your business suits with tan slacks and white pressed shirts-in the corner, slowly drinking martinis with olives and rocks liquors-amaiable laughs from aspired heads of state but ever grounded by their Brooks Brothers knock offs, off the hangar.
Thursday is a trivia night, a night where a table is a steal and there's a stagnant fervor in the air. If you fancy a martini or a $2 Narragansett, the Westender can accommodate-the food however is little fare not worth the trip. There's a rare beer find on tap with Whale's Tale from Maine and a small light brew from Nantucket.
I am a fan, for this Thursday night.
Had a dinner for 3 here tonight, including a 5 y.o. Everything was excellent. The atmosphere was nice, as there were not many people in there, but we went at 5:30 on a saturday and the crowd is more of a 7pm thing according to our server.
The decor is very nice, lots of hard wood, HDTV's and tall chairs. Each table is wood burned/engraved with "The Westender" and some have Harley davidson logos as well...topped with 1/2 inch of lacquer.
There is a stage in one corner where a band was setting up and they have Trivia night thursdays at 8pm, $0.25 wings for Monday Night Football, $5 first come/first serve darts on tuesday i think...
The menu had  a great deal of choices...We started off with the Cheese Quesedilla w/ chicken in it. It came with a tasty diced tomato/spices mound and sour cream. The shell of the quesedilla had a nice flavor as well, so it wasn't just cheese in flat bread.
We also had an order of buffalo wings. They were perfect. Spicy, but not too spicy, and most importantly to me, cooked through and through. I hate it when you get plump buffalo wings and you find the middle of them isn't cooked all the way. They had no breading or gimmicky fillers, just wings and sauce and crispiness...
For dinners we had a Cheeseburger, which was very impressive and tasty. It's easily enough for 2 people. The same goes for the grilled chicken sandwich with bbq sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon. This thing was fantastic and huge. The fries were tasty as well.
Also had was a salad with sliced steak on it. That was good as well. Very fresh and the dressing was tasty.
The red velvet cake was "20 thumbs up" for dessert.
The total price for the meal was $46.
Plenty of parking, your usual airplane size bathroom...They didn't have kids menus and the entrees are huge so kids could probably split a burger or what not. There are no highchairs or booster seats so kids should be big enough to sit in an elevated chair.
Great meal and I would definitely go back.
So popped into The Westender for lunch. Â It was quiet but I got to scope out the layout. Â The bar is the same as the place that was there before but the booths have been gutted out to make room for high top bar tables and a stage. Â There are also tvs everywhere, so I imagine this is a good place for sports.
I had a glass of wine, which was served in a teeny little carafe which I then had to pour into the glass myself. Â I found this cute but odd and a waste of precious little drops of wine.
I ordered a veggies wrap and fries and my friend ordered clam chowder and their non-traditional caesar.
I tasted her caesar and traditional or not, it was boring. Â My wrap sandwich was equally unexciting and I got a bite of pepper that was a little bad (the rest of the pepper were good though).
I did not try the clam chowder since it's not my thing.
The fries, however, were phenominal. Â Top notch. Â And I saw some burgers delivered to a neighboring table that looked pretty damned good.
Towards the end of my meal I discovered this place was owned by the same folks that own the Lazy Dog. Â Admittedly, that does not fire up my desire to go back since I'm not a fan of the attitude of management at their sister establishment. Â That said, I didn't factor my opinion of that place into my assessment of this place, since I didn't experience first hand the same sort of attitude here, and it would be completely unfair to give a star rating based on experiences elsewhere, I'm just stating why I, personally, will probably not be back any time soon.
My server was friendly and attentive and the beer choices looked reasonably plentiful (not OVERLY plentiful, just, you know, more than 5).
I imagine the best course of action would be to go and try for yourself!
