Great little restaurant. Homemade rolls, mashed potatoes, and the ribeye steak was to die for. It just melted in your mouth. Great friendly service. Definitely worth stopping there!

I have eaten at Western Trails Cafe twice now and both times were excellent.  Don't expect a huge variety of food as the menu is fairly small (with only 4 or 5 items on it).  However; what they lack in menu quantity they make up for in quality.  Along with the regular menu items they offer daily specials that vary from day to day.

The first time I ate here the special was breaded pork chops which is what I decided to go with. The service was a little slow but they had just recently opened and the waitress was very pleasant. The meal came in either a large or small order as most of their items do (which is helpful if you're on the road and don't have a place for left overs.)  The meal started off with a medium dinner salad that was good but wasn't out of the ordinary in any way. The pork chops were nice thick cuts of meat with little fat on them and hand breaded in a very well seasoned light flaky crust and slathered in white country gravy.  Along with the chops I got mashed potatoes and a roll. I was extremely pleasantly surprised when I discovered that they were real homemade mashed potatoes! (This seems almost impossible to find in a restaurant anymore.)  The people I was with both got hamburgers and fries.  The hamburgers where well cooked and seasoned but didn't seem to fit the bun very well.  As in they were a little small which was rather disappointing.

The second Time I ate here the service was great and the food was on our table within 8 minutes of sitting down. I tried the large chicken fried steak which was even better than the pork chops.  If you talk to anyone who has eaten here this seems to be the dish that they are known for and for good reason.  It too was hand breaded, seasoned well, and smothered in creamy country gravy.  It came with the same sides as the pork chops and other than the potatoes needing a little salt was an absolutely wonderful meal.

This place serves real home made food and doesn't seem to cut any corners when it comes to quality.  If you are not from the area and just traveling through I assure you this is the best food you will find within 90 miles and is well worth the stop.  If you live in the area and have not tried it yet I promise you it is well worth an evening out with family or friends to enjoy a great meal. You will not be disappointed.
