I loved this place! Â The husband and I came here for lunch to refuel after biking from Oak Bluffs. Â The location is perfect as it's right on Main Street where everything is.
The atmosphere seems like what I would expect a place called the Wharf to look like. Â Cozy, dimly lit, darker furniture. Â And it was nice and busy. Â A lot of people like to complain when a restaurant is busy (i.e. too loud, slow service) but I love it. Â It means the place is doing its job.
I ordered the fish and chips and the hubs ordered a turkey sandwich. Â My fish and chips were awesome! Â The fish was clearly fresh and the outside was perfectly crunchy. Â I'm not sure what they are using for the batter but it's working. Â The hubs really enjoyed his turkey sandwich too.
Our server was young and obviously this was a summer job for her but she was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu as well as the local beer. Â
Something I'd like to highlight:
One of the things I generally observe when I'm in a restaurant is how well the staff gets along with each other and if they seem like they enjoy being there. Â What I saw here was impressive. Â Although it was busy, all of the servers, hostesses were smiling, not only with their tables, but also laughing with each other. I also saw the general manager serving food (ours included) and laughing with customers. Â This level of enjoyment and teamwork is something most restaurants overlook, as it doesn't seem to be a priority for them. Â Â But believe me we notice, and the Wharf, with it's overall friendly atmosphere, created an environment that made me feel relaxed, comfortable, and very happy. Â Great job to the owners/manager who I consider responsible for that.
Food is very good. Outside gives impression that it might be a tourist trap but not the case.
Pro
- excellent clam chowder
- lobster roll was very tasty
Con
- kids out of school and providing your table service - don't get me wrong they were actually very good but be prepared mentally that this isn't their usual job
- leaky ceiling that was appropriately addressed, again not as much as a complaint as an FYI
Overall
Very solid 3 stars, it was just what I wanted for lunch.
We had a great night here..almost too good! I know my bf would say that this place is AMAZING and he's had so many memories here, but I'm writing about my experience.
The drinks, band and dancing were great. The bartenders poured very very nice drinks (Long Islands were the choice of the evening) and we caught the last ferry back to Chappy because of it!
Hands down has the best prime rib on the island. It is a humongous portion, seasoned heavily, and can't beat the price. Their seafood is very good, I have never been disappointed. When they have it, the salmon is so juicy and cooked perfect. Chowder is a pretty good classic chowder. Service is good when busy. If its a slow night its hard to find or get your waitress. Coleslaw is too sweet for my taste.
Review Source:went here with 9 others. 3 orders went back. Salmon not cooked and "roasted" beet salad was canned. Chicken on the salad was like wood. The scallop roll was 10 tiny scallops on a huge roll. Then after the others in my party sent their food back and ordered something else they still charged us for the stuff that went back. I don't go to the vineyard very often but if I go back will not go to this place
Review Source:Our party of 14 came here for some lunch and were pleasantly surprised by how satisfied we all were from the food. Â
Courtney, our waitress, was friendly and patient enough for our annoying antics. Â I got a cup of clam chowder and although it packed a lot of flavor and wasn't too oily/creamy, it did lack generous servings of clams. Â The 8oz Angus and Linguica Burger hit the spot perfectly. Â My friends got their Special of the day, Yellow Tuna Sandwhich, which they all enjoyed.
My only beef complaint which I should've voiced was the fact that I got charged 7 dollars for a virgin pina colada. Â Not cool!
Last day at Martha's Vineyard with the family and we wanted to go somewhere good. Â Thanks, Yelp, for helping us find this awesome restaurant.
Firstoff, I must say I love their clam chowder. They put bacon in it and it's just so creamy and flavorful. Â I would definitely rate it the best on the vineyard (but I'm biased because of the bacon-y deliciousness).
I would give the place a 4.5/5 on decor/ambiance.  It was a really big restaurant on the inside, clean bathrooms, nice pub attached next door, and the only reason why I didn't give it a  5/5 is because the tiled floors are uneven and I tripped.  I noticed a couple of other people stumbling too, but I guess it's not easy to level the whole floor.
The best part of dining out with the whole family is that we get to try a lot of different dishes. Â We started out with the calamari, crab and artichoke dip, and shrimp cocktail appetizers. Â The calamari was cooked well, not too chewy, and the thai peanut sauce was good (nothing too special). Â The crab and artichoke dip was pretty tasty, though it solidified pretty quickly because of the massive amounts of cheese. Â The shrimp was quite delicious and well cooked.
I ordered the most expensive item on the menu: 1 1/4 lobster "in the rough"? It was the grilled lobster dish with littleneck clams and muscles. Â Oh. My. Gosh. Best lobster dish I've ever had, and I've been all around Maine and New England too. Â It's the sauce that they cook the shellfish in.. some zesty tasty tomatoey sauce that's absolutely delicious. Â Huge portion too, but I can eat a ton. I'd recommend splitting this dish or at least splitting the shellfish because it was a doozy.
Other awesome menu items were Lobster ravioli, surf and turf, and some other seafood dishes. Â They've got a great selection of non-seafood items (salads, sandwiches/burgers, pasta, meats) but their specialty is definitely the seafood. Â My cousin got the 1/2 rack ribs, which were tasty and tender but a bit on the dry side, and the filet mignon my dad got as the surf and turf special was ever so slightly overcooked. Â
The service got a 5/5. Â We made reservations and were seated right away, got our drinks, and the food came out not too long after we ordered. Â Our waitress was really nice and attentive and everything seemed very organized.
Fair prices, great food, great service... I'd definitely recommend The Wharf!
Great, friendly service and an equally friendly meal at good prices for the island reconfirm my belief that if you want a casual place to bring the kids or just grab a bite before a movie, The Wharf is The Answer. Thank goodness for places like The Wharf. When we want salads, burgers, mussels, pasta and fries, there's only one place in Edgartown that fills the bill.
Review Source:My husband and I were on a mission to find the best lobster roll on the Vineyard! Â These were very good! Â The lobster bisque was outstanding and the clam chowder was excellent!! Â The wait staff couldn't have been nicer! Â Great dining experience. Â We were told that this where the locals eat! Â That is where I like to go!
Review Source:My boyfriend and I loved this restaurant. We came in on a Tuesday night after lots of shopping/sightseeing/exploring the island. The atmosphere was very nice, with soft lighting, small candles on the tables, soft 90s music in the background, and wood paneled walls. Lots of beer choices on tap with descriptions of each in the menu! The waitress was very nice. I got the mussels linguine which was SOO DELICIOUS, just the right amount of food and super flavorful. My boyfriend got the swordfish sandwich which he loved and said was the best swordfish he's had in a long time. We had a great experience here. Highly recommended!
Review Source:We ended up in this place because every other place was closed on a Friday night, and it was surprisingly good!
The food was of good quality and the service was also good. It was late in the day and they were preparing for a band/night club type of thing, but they were happy to serve us still.
The pub next door was busy and looked like a lot of fun, didn't make it this time around, but would deffo recommend.
Excellent seafood and service in a casual setting. My wife said the lobster was the best she's ever had, and the seafood platter was well executed as well.
Two minor complaints that prevent me from awarding the elusive 5th star - the stuffed quahog was slightly overcooked, and they refused to switch my french fries for onion rings. They would not even accept my offer to just pay the difference (ridiculous when considering how much we were already spending) , so I ordered an extra plate to go with my pile of unwanted fries.
The wharf had a silent dj night. I had heard about it but never been before.
They came out with a round of headphones and I didn't get one but found myself wanting some. After about five minutes they came out with more and I got some. They had two djs spinning hip house and house.
Like life if you are tuned in you can be a part of something. I thought drinking the kool aide would be lame but it was actually really fun. You could switch channels and totally see who was vibing out on your station. You could also dance really badly and everybody would just assume you were on channel b.
They passed out sunglasses and underwear and that really kicked it up a notch.
Taking off the headphones and glasses and underwear and looking around you saw some ecstatic gyrating and dancing, and the shouts of the deranged and you were thankfully only temporarily removed from the fun. return your disguise of real life and you were again submerged and if you had a drink numbed to the fake world without music and shades.
This was the perfect place to grab lunch on Martha's Vineyard. It is located right in downtown Edgartown, next to the famous Black Dog general store. Our large party was seated right away on a Monday afternoon, but I could see how this place would get busy on weekends.
Service was great. Our waiter was friendly and on top of things thoughout our meal: refilling drinks without being asked, checking in, etc.
The atmosphere is your standard island casual with fishing paraphanalia lining the walls. The wood bar is beautiful. Our booth and table was clean, as were the sky-lit bathrooms.
Lastly, the food was excellent. I ordered the Fried Shrimp Po'Boy with small fried shrimp, lettuce, tomato, red onion and creole aioli -- which added just enough kick to make it interesting. I chose the fries as my side, which was a good choice; the alternative was potato chips -- which were homemade by not crisp enough -- or cole slaw -- which I didn't try, but looked good. The price was reasonable as well -- not cheap, but a good value.
I stole a taste of the New England clam chowder and immediately regretted not ordering a cup. It might be one of the best I have ever had.
There is a wide selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, seafood and entrees here -- truly something for everyone.
I noticed the calendar on our way in, and it looked like they have live music almost every night of the week on their back patio (which I wasn't able to find).
Ran in here today during the flash thunderstorm for lunch. Recommended if your goal is a lowkey lunch in Edgartown. Waitress threw down the type of quick, direct service I'd expect at a place like this. Â From a food standpoint, i was more than satisfied:
- I'm a sucker for good bread on the table
- Alaskan Snow crab - (was on lobster overload and needed a light seafood option that wasn't fried) - we enjoyed this
- The Caprese Salad was surprisingly really good - fresh pesto and really fresh tomatoes
Recommended unless you're looking for fine dining.
Cheap eats if you pick the right parts from the menu. Â I went in for lunch with an 12 year old. Â She ordered the mac & cheese, and a coke. Â Happy camper :)
I ordered the tuna salad sandwich, and had fries on the side. Â The options were cole slaw, fries, or kettle chips. Â As much as I love kettle chips, I decided to go for fries this time.
The waitress was very attentive, and continually refilled our drinks, even after I asked for the bill!
Very family friendly atmosphere, but I can see it being a bit pricey if you order the $20+ options from the menu. I honestly think its a great place, huge servings, and a nice air conditioned spot to rest your tired feet.
Great price and great food!
The Wharf has it all!
This place just gets better and better. It has everything for all age groups too.
We dine with my two kids so the menu has to be diversified and reasonable for us to afford dining out. It is both.
Everything from the appetizers to the desserts make you want to come back. Yes, they do have a great burger but don't stop there. The menu changes quite often and I think they have the best Jambalaya on the island and even though it's not offered on the menu it comes up as a special every now and then. The chowder is great, nacho's are a family starter for us and everything from the fish and chips (my son always gets it) and the veggie pasts with chicken added usually yields leftovers for me the next day.
Tuesdays are currently two for one so my wife and I breakaway without the kids and hit dinner later that night. What a great deal. On the side they have a pub with the island characters and regulars which is totally separated from the dining part so it's really the best of both worlds.
We love the wharf for all that this family establishment has to offer. A friendly face at all times, always good hearty food and a good wine list for all to pick from.
We'll be coming back here quite often!
It's so good, especially if you get a table by the cracklin' fireplace, that you're going to have a difficult time NOT returning there the following night. Â The house cheeseburger was probably in the Top Ten of all Cheeseburgers I've ever had, and they cook it just like you want it. Â Don't forget too they serve the Tall beers here in 2-pint mugs, so if you're thirsty for brew you'll get your fill. Â Convenient location right off the docks in Edgartown!
Review Source:Let's start with the name. Wharf / pub. Together they sound like an eclectic, charming old school location near the water. But if you really think about it, a wharf is where sweaty longshoreman and fisherman hang out, and a pub is usually a little grungy (I'm ok with that). Put them together; is that somewhere you will get a "fancy" meal? Â In any other location other than MV or Nantucket, probably not...
We visited this establishment on the 3rd of July, and were lucky enough to get table for 6 (4 adults / 2 kids, kudos to them for moving things around for us). The restaurant definitely smelled like a pub, and the local tourist kids were patiently waiting for the rest of us "family" people to get the heck out so the band could set up...
The menu is limited to a slightly higher than average, but the prices didn't match. I guess that's the price you pay for a tourist destination... Â The chairs and tables are the old wooden type, but maybe they keep them to add to the "nautical" theme (is there one??).
If we were staying the week, our experience may have been different, but we were only on island for one day (our fault entirely), and should have thought ahead and made reservations at someplace like Chesters... During the time we were happy just to have a place to get food for the kids, but looking back....well...
A bit overpriced for what you get. Â Don't get me started on the food and menu...
I always hate when I see a few workers with their thumbs up their you-know-whats, while others run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Â
I would think when you have a party of 9 and 9 people order a drink, at some point between collecting your drinks from the bar and serving them to the table you would notice you missed 1 before disappearing for 15 minutes.
To top it all off, when you are closing out your checks at the end of the evening I would also hope you might pick up on the fact that you put $600 on a guest's card as opposed to $100. Â Luckily my friend's bank called her to alert her to an unusually high sum, of course that does not take the hold off her account for the rest of her vacation.
Most fortunately, when you go out to dinner with 8 of your closest and most awesome friends wherever you are has nothing to do with what a good time you have!
Much of Martha's Vineyard is dry, and that makes finding a good pub important for any lengthy trip in the areas that aren't dry. Having a reasonably priced pub is even more important on an island known for it's pricey eating choices.
The Wharf accomplishes both of these island visit goals admirably. The food is tasty and reasonably priced (for the island). The staff were friendly, and drinks and food came in a reasonable amount of time. We were served at the bar in no time, even while it was packed for Sunday football watching.
The main restaurant area is sizable with large booth seating. There is a back bar with occasional live entertainment including Stump Trivia on Thursday nights.
All in all a good choice when taking a break from the more expensive choices (like Alchemy or Dave & Ryans).
We showed up and decided that we would be cheap at this meal. After all, how often do you want to shell out for expensive seafood on an MV vacation. Turns out that the answer is "always"! Simple things like a turkey sandwich are overpriced and not well done at the Wharf Pub. It's not worth it to try and run from the higher priced menu items.
Stuffed quahogs are tasty and spicy.
Lobster Bisque was good. Never even try to get this dish outside of Massachusetts.
Lobster Caesar Salad had good tasting meat.
Overall, not a bad place to rest your butt in Edgartown.
I had read about this place on Yelp and decided not to go there. When the cafe that we had planned to visit closed before we arrived, we walked around and stumbled in here. Â I had forgotten that I had read about it. Â
We were seated immediately. Â The booth was quite big. Â I was surprised. Â I know that I have lost a little weight, but I scooched right in with no problem.
The menu had a few salads, a few sandwiches, maybe two burgers and some traditional New England stuff that I wouldn't see around where I live. Â
Rather than go all carbed out, I decided to play safe with a veggie wrap and cole slaw. Â I'm a cole slaw snob. Â This stuff was pretty good, but it had been sitting for a while, so it was a bit waterier than I think it might have been when it was made. Â The wrap had hummus, portobello mushroom, lettuce, bell pepper, carrots, lettuce and tomato. Â If it had some avocado and a bit of cilantro or basil, it would have been excellent. Â As it was, it was good. Â I added a few drops of green Tabasco to it. Â
Jeff ordered the scallop roll. Â They were small but juicy. Â
I ordered an iced tea and a glass of water. Â Both were refreshing, especially given the high humidity today. Â The place was busy, but not too busy. Â The waitress was attentive, but could have been a bit more proactive, I thought. Â
I saw the plate of nachos on another table and they looked delicious. Â All the plates were big and the prices were reasonable for the area, I thought.
I was pleasantly surprised, given the reviews on here. Â They seemed to have some good bar specials. Â It definitely does seem to have a pretty young crowd!
the previous reviews are quite accurate. It is strange that the setting is to attract some mature people who like beers and nice dinner. The food is always a weird choice. Not bad, but, you feel 10% is short of something in it.
Another mystery is, this place attract, city type of young professionals. Definitely not local's hangout spot, but just picture a casual bar from Boston is brought down here.
Weird to see boys wearing Polo shirts and still feel like they are classy, whereas, girls are just hip. No bimbos, so, I don't know about who scores to have smoochies. Boys simply look too lame and conforming for me, not original *w*
The Wharf = Hookup Central. This place was my favorite place in Edgartown while I lived on The Vineyard. Vacationing college girls = smoochie, smoochie, smoochie. It's a relaxed type of watering hole with a post-college crowd. Shorts and polo shirts are the uniform. "Memories, like the corner of my mind..." Ha, ha!
