Great dive bar. The crowd does look a little rough at times. But overall pretty cool bar that's been there for years. I have to admit that the bartender here that I've seen multiple times ( a cute latina) does very heavy pours and makes them just right. For $5 for a jameson & coke why wouldn't you check this place out?
Review Source:This is a decent place to go if it's not too crowded. If it's packed, you may have people standing over you when you're sitting at the bar. They do have good drink specials though. The jukebox isn't that great unless you only want to hear hit songs from certain artists. Good place if you're into pool because they have a separate area for that.
Review Source:I stopped in here last night and despite it being relatively cool outside, it was hot and stuffy inside. 2.75$ for well-whiskey and coke isn't bad though. They have three pool tables and plenty of places to sit. I just don't know why it was so hot in there. We had to leave after one game and one drink because it was suffocatingly stuffy.
Review Source:This place has gotten waaaaay ghetto over the last couple years. Friends and I used to be-bop down there every once in a while but lately it's just been a different, younger, ghetto type crowd and not the relaxing "let's sit down and bullshit over a beer type place" every time we go in. Probably wont be returning.
Drink prices are reasonable but their beer selections on tap are minimal.
The White Elephant is everything you could want from a neighborhood bar. VERY friendly bartenders that remember your drink of choice and make you feel like family. Several taps of big-brewery beers and lots of bottles, a great place for a shot and a beer. Reasonable prices. Loud jukebox. A couple big-screen TVs. A few pool tables. And, a wide variety of patrons. Yes, it's a little worn inside, but it has the feel of a old neighborhood bar, comfortable!
Review Source:PROS:
EXCELLENT PRICES - The best in town!
As of 2/11/09 - You can buy 2 Kamikazi's for only $5.50!
Very friendly staff
Pool Tables and Dart Board
Fun atmosphere
CONS:
None
Additional Notes: Some people may be turned off at the interior, it is a bit old, but it also holds a bit of history. Not for those who are into ritzy places or glam. The crowd ranges from Mid-20's to Late 40's.
People who come here are VERY nice and approachable. They will talk to you like they've known you forever! I've never been more comfortable in a bar before.
I come to Modesto atleast once a week and sometimes on the weekends and there is only 2 places in this town I would go out to.  Those 2 places  being the White elephant  and Speakeasy  depending on my mood.  The white elephant is a cool place to go with a group of friends to kick back have a few drinks, the bartenders are friendly and pour a good drink (some better than others) I like the diversity of this bar and most of the patrons are down to earth.  So if you are here on business or just looking for a spot to just kick back try the White Elephant Lounge.
