This place was amazing. Great setting, interesting decor, very friendly staff, fabulous food, and reasonable prices. I ordered the hummus appetizer. It was awesome! Â I have lived in the Middle East and have had really good Mediterranean dishes in some very interesting placed. This hummus, feta, olives, and olive oil were off the hook.
Next came the entree, flank steak and shrimp. This was a culinary masterpiece. I am not sure what else I could have ordered that I would have enjoyed more. Tasty, tasty, tasty!
Like I said, this place is amazing. I would wager that it is the best dinner restaurant in town.
I know it's a busy holiday, but we felt rushed and pushed out. Our salad never came and  our appetizer and entrees were delivered together. We were not even offered another glass of wine! I understand the restaurant was busy, but this place needs to understand every guest experience is important. The bartenders were nice. The service otherwise terrible. With exception of the friendly hostess.
Review Source:Really enjoyed a trip with friends to the Wild Dog Grille- we were in from out of town for a wedding and decided to try this spot for our lunch one day. It was quite pricey for lunch, but we all thought the food was delicious. My bf had an amazing looking house burger- tried a bite and it was perfect, cooked exactly as he ordered. We split the spinach artichoke dip (loved it), and I enjoyed a watermelon and arugala salad that had great fresh ingredients that I found refreshing. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very nice- it appeared like a great spot tucked away in a cute downtown area. I'd definitely go back if I lived in the area :)
Review Source:Visiting for the weekend. Â I was impressed with Wild Dog's options and quality. Â I had sashimi tuna salad. Delicious. Tuna cooked perfectly. Gazpacho was amazing. I want the recipe. Â My boyfriend is vegan and he had a few different options. Â Let the staff know of veganism and they are happy to recommend some options. Â Server was very sweet.
Bloody mary; like a salad of its own. Delish.
+ cool contemporary setting, + delicious Modern American fare,
We went to the Wild Dog Grille twice during our two-night stay since their food and atmosphere really convinced us.
The restaurant has a contemporary approach including preserved and mounted animal heads and sleek ebony colored furniture. This might sound like a übercool eatery but the restaurant comes with a laidback vibe that makes it cozy and casual instead.
We tried the Wild Dog Burger and BBQ Chicken Pizza and were pleasantly surprised how tasteful both were. Besides the Wild Dog Grille serves dishes such as grilled fish, beef skewers, baby ribs and daily specials with a modern American twist.
The drink menu lists decent international wines, cocktails, martinis, and local brews.
All reason enough to return a second time...
+ contemporary setting,
+ delicious Modern American fare
Burger/Pizza: average $12
Average price for an entrée: $23
This lace was very tasty. On this street, it can be hard to find a meal during the day. All of the restaurants seem to have weird daytime hours, but if you catch the Wild Dog grille while it is open, then you will have a good meal. The portions were very adequate and quite filling for a lunch. Definitely a place to stop for a meal. We sat outside in the shade, and enjoyed the weather on a 90 degree day.
Review Source:We were very happy that our Yelp App lead us to Wild Dog on a scorching Michigan Summer afternoon. Â Their patio looked lovely but we opted for the comfort of air conditioning.
Their drink menu had lot of yummy sounding options and they offered a couple Michigan beers. Â The Colorado Bulldog stood out as a delicious adult version of chocolate milk.
The sandwiches and burgers that we had were all very good. Â My Wild Dog burger was cooked perfectly and had a great char-grilled flavor. Â The cajun seasoning and avacado-mayo may have lacked a little, but the gorgonzola and grape-tomato jam on the burger more than made up for that. Â I had to steal a bite of my sister's Grilled Cheese, it looked too good to resist. Â Pesto, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes with lots of gooey cheese, mmmmmmmmmmmm. Â Their kettle chips were interesting and became kinda addicting. Â They are slightly sweet like kettle corn, which was a little unexpected.
My family and I vacation in the area every summer, and had good experiences at Wild Dog in past years. Â This year, the restaurant appears to be under new management and poorly run. Â I would not recommend this restaurant. Â
There are few too servers on staff trying to wait too many tables, and service is extremely slow. Â We ordered appetizers, which were finally brought out with the meal - burnt - and sent back. Â The main dishes were all cold and looked as though they had been sitting for a while. Â
We paid for our drinks and decided to dine elsewhere. Â It's a shame, too, because this used to be a good place to eat.
This is a solid, solid 4; maybe even 4+. I'm hesitant to give it 5 stars because I didn't leave the restaurant thinking, "wow, I would eat every meal here," or "hot damn, I wish there was a place like this in Chicago," but looking back now, I certainly can't think of anything that was less than pleasant about our meal here.
It was maybe half full, giving the service an opportunity to focus on us, which they did without being overbearing. The chili and house salad were flavorful and well-proportioned, but not too heavy to fill us up before our lunches arrived. The boyfriend ordered a burger with sweet potato fries (it was his first time trying them and he was impressed - I would have liked them to have been a tad more crispy, but then again, it wasn't my meal). I ordered the grilled cheese, which was awesome! Kudos to Wild Dog on the creativity for that one - I never would have thought to combine pesto spinach, cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes, but now any grilled cheese that I order elsewhere are going to have a high bar to meet.
In terms of atmosphere, I think the decorations are fitting and I appreciate that the tables aren't 12 inches apart from one another; there's actually space to walk between the tables and with fewer tables it won't get quite as loud. If there's a long line across the street, why not head over to Wild Dog?!
My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch on a Sunday.  It was a beautiful day and we sat at the front of the bar area where the windows were wide open.  Our waiter was very pleasant.  We split a house salad with Lemon Grass-Chile Vinaigrette - amazing.  We also split a make your own pizza suggested by our waiter with Pesto, Chèvre cheese, Sun Dried Tomatoes and Spinich.  It was decadent!  We will definitely go back!
Review Source:Arrived around 5:30pm and it was already filling up (good sign). I had a 1/2 slab of ribs with sweet potato fries and a tomato bisque for starter, my wife had a burger. Great food, really nice atmosphere (we sat next to a large fire) and very friendly service. Very much enjoyed it, and would recommend it happily.
Review Source:Love This place! A great restaurant In a small town. The decor is awesome and it feels so cozy in there, especially in the winter time with the fireplace they have in the dining area. The bar is big and they have a big selection of beer and wine as well as a full bar. I love their ribs and tilapia tacos. The spinach artichoke appetizer is DELICIOUS! Â The servers are great and super helpful if you have any questions about the menu. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner. I would NOT consider their menu "bar food" as other reviews have suggested.
Review Source:Went to Wild Dog on 8/3/11 and had a so-so experience. First and foremost, the decor is kinda on the tacky side...the elephant tusks by the bar, the deer/antalope mounted on the wall, and the pictures of wild game in the bathroom.
As for the food, they did not give you alot of fried calamari, but did give you a hearty house salad with your meal. The main course was enjoyed by all, except for the fact it took a long time to come out (I'd say at least 45 minutes.
I had the talapia tacos which were outstanding...they give you two full filets and were very tasty.
Service was OK...our drinks were refilled and the waitress was polite. One negative point was that we weren't even offered dessert, which I thought was kind of weird.
I had the grilled cheese which was fab and I can't remember what my husband ordered but he kept picking at my plate. Also had some sort of a whiskey lemonade which was tasty...The decor sucks because it's a bunch of hunting trophies and the service was shite. I'm not sure what took so long to make lunch and the servers wear gym shoes but do an amazing disappearing act when you need something.
Would we go back? Yep, for the food.
The customer service has gone way way way way south on this establishment. No water refills, no soda refills, the gazpacho soup was basically tomato paste with vegi's in it, disgusting, i couldn't even eat it. Nor did they take it off the bill after i told them i wasn't pleased with it. It wasn't what it is suppose to be.
No bread was served before hand. The server said he can bring us out some crackers, when he reappeared he literally tossed a packet of oyster crackers on the table and walked away. *sigh* very dissatisfying.
we wont be going back anytime soon, if i want to be treated like crap at a restaurant ide go to McDonalds. But then again McDonalds has better customer service than this place now. BAD DOG! BAD DOG! SHAME!
Pretty good for the area. I ate here last summer on one of my many trips  to the Saugatuck area. I was recently trying to find out the name of this place when I realized they could use some more reviews. After all, that's how I found the place.
Good food but I still think it's a step up from the normal bar fare. We had a couple of appetizers as our dinner. Good flat bread pizza and quesadillas. I had a specialty martini and I remember it being pretty good. It was a basic martini so it was nothing crazy, but I still felt like I could taste some alcohol (which is not always the case.)
Overall, I will be going back and I think it's worth a visit in the area if you are looking for a nice lunch. Definitely better than The Butler in Saugatuck.
The Wild Dog Grille did the trick for me and my girlfriend--two weary tourists who were starving and worn out from long work weeks and a drive to Saugatuck from Chicago on a Friday night. Â However, in the grand scheme of things, this restaurant is extremely mediocre. Â
We had a very nice and friendly server, but they have pretty typical bar food and it's just okay...certainly not anything special. Â I'd imagine they lure in a lot of customers when the weather is warmer and they have their patio open.
Good for lunch, nice atmosphere, and a lovely patio with umbrellas. Â
The food is okay, but not great either. Â I got the fish tacos, and they tasted slightly off - like mold. Â The salads were good and the service was good. Â The hostess could barely keep her eyes open - she looked high or hungover, but definitely not friendly. Â
If you need a spot for lunch in Douglas or Saugatuck, it's an acceptable option, particularly if it's a nice day and you want to sit outside.
After several years of good experiences here, I was very disappointed during my last visit. The service was terrible. The waitress was completely disinterested in any attempt at good service and didn't smile once. It literally seemed like she was pulled in at random from the street and asked to help out for the night. Not so much as a "how is everything?" during the whole meal. The food was also nothing to write home about. The salad dressing was bland and my pasta dish had a watery uninteresting sauce that would have made Chef Boyardee weep. Go across the street to People Like Us or better yet go to Saugatuck and visit Maro's-- much better food. The real shame is that the atmosphere is great and the place has potential. The one star is because as some other reviewers mentioned -- there was no bread available. Amazing.
Review Source:It is hit or miss with the service there. The food is great but they don't provide bread prior to ordering (even though we saw another table with it - we were told it's an appitzier). If you are looking for modern all american food joint, this is for you. Just dont expect any bread but oyster crackers instead.
Review Source:One of the best meals we had in Saugatuck/Douglas! A very nice, upscale bar and grille with plenty of options for lunch and dinner. I had their wood-oven pizza, and it was very tasty. Crispy crust and the cheese was very fresh. The duck nachos were amazing. The ingredient list might sound a bit off, but give them a shot, they're very good. Nice wine selection as well.
Review Source:I like this place. Â Not love, but I do enjoy.
Things I love? The outdoor patio, the fact they make sweet potato fries(although slightly lacking something), the margarita pizza- yum, and the spinach artichoke grilled cheese- Very original and satisfying. Â The chickpea appetizer fritters were AWESOME.
Not crazy about their salads or dressings. Â Mediocre. Â And people who love the caesar dressing I kept hearing reviews about forgot to mention it was Heavily laced with garlic- I repeat- Heavily.
My husband and I took a day trip to Douglas for our anniversary and ended up at this restaurant. It was fall but the temperatures were very mild so we sat on the restaurant's adorable side patio. There were twinkly lights and a big umbrella over our table. As the evening cooled off the manager brought out a portable fire pit. It was wonderfully cozy.
Add to that the fact that the wine was tasty, the salad dressing was off the charts, the food was good, and the dessert was fab.
It was just a great evening and an adorable place to eat.
The first thing I noticed in the Wild Dog Grille was the gazelle on the wall. I swear that gazelle was staring me down all evening. The next thing I noticed was the kick in my Vanilla Sex martini, which I'm sure only intensified my certainty of the gazelle's malintentions.
Anyway, once the boyfriend and I were sat after our wait, our stomachs were begging for a really indulgent dinner. So we both decided on a Caesar salad and steaks. I ordered the Filet, $25.95, and he ordered the New York Strip, which I believe was $19. The Caesar salad was sinfully delicious. As the bf put it, it easily could have been one of the best salads we've ever had.
Then, came our steaks. I had finally decided to go all in for the Filet since I basically hate all steak except for a medium rare filet mignon that melts in my mouth. Unfortunately, my meat was tough and fatty. Again, the bf imparted wisdom: "It's like a filet from Applebee's." I tried about 3 bites before I gave up and the bf tried one too. When our waiter came back around quite a bit later (he was quite busy, so I had just munched on the plate's veggies while we waited for him), he took the plate to see what he could do. I told him I was pretty much done (I had been eating my veggies and the bf's strip, which was actually quite delicious) and didn't want anything new. He took $15 off the $25 steak and offered us a free dessert, which seemed quite reasonable to me.
The dessert, a key lime tart, made me incandescently happy. Literally. It was so sweet and tart, my whole face flushed and heart quickened. It was delicious.
In the end, this would have been a five-star experience without the bad steak. I would take off two stars for that steak, but the waiter's apologies and kindness definitely added an extra star for service. I'll definitely be back, hopefully in the summer so I can take advantage of the beautiful patio they have set up.
I've been here one time, right after they opened. We had a nice lunch/early dinner - the ceasar salad was good and the desert we had was to die for!
My only complaint and I'm sure they have remedied this, is that they only had one brand (probably the wrong term but oh well) of wine and it was NASTY and cheap. It had something to do with they liquor license.
The decor was nice and we enjoyed sitting at the high tables next to the bar... I'd love to visit again Adan check out the wine list the next time I'm in town.
Went here with my sister and our 5 kids (all 10 and under). Â They have a kids' menu - all of the kids found something they liked on it. Â 2 of the kids ordered the soup of the day and it was plenty enough for a meal.
Our entrees were generous and good. Â All in all a very good experience and we'll be back if we're in the area.
I only had a drink here, but definitely will be back soon for some food. Â I had a fantastic bloody mary - with one of the most creative garnishes ever - a slice of awesome sausage! Â This is second only to the spiced shrimp I had at a now defunt restaurant called Georgia in LA - hm! Â I love Bloody Mary's so when I get a good one I remember it. Â The decor was cool - even if I felt a tad bad about all of the pretty dead animals on the walls. Â It's a great space and a brand new building in downtown Douglas.
Review Source:I didn't get to eat here, but want to come back for the Grilled Cheese. Â It sounded awesome, being made with, among other cheeses, their spinach cheese dip.
The bartender/owner we spoke to was very laid back and told us all about his trip to Africa to get decorations for the place (Wild Dog = the kind found on the African savanna, not some moronic tourist-trap-named debacle). Â He also seemed very knowledgable about beer. Â He recommended an excellent Bavarian he told me he was selling at almost cost because he liked it so much that he wanted everyone else to know about it.
Can't wait to go back.
