As a Floridian I've been to many great water bars and restaurants. Woody's is not one of those. 1) Dirty inside and out. Â 2) Rude, condescending waitstaff. Â 3) No signs announcing that they don't accept credit cards, and the waiter only informed us - AFTER - I laid my credit card down attempting to pay the bill. Â Then he told me there was a convenient ATM - right inside! Yes, that convenient ATM -- charged me a total $5.00 to get $20 out.
The food was mediocre. Paper plates and plastic knives and forks. Unadvisably, I got the surf and turf. Ever try to cut a grisselly, fat laden piece of meat with a plastic knife on a foam paper plate? Â HA! Â
The music was hideous. An old guy playing along to sequenced tunes - and singing badly. I thought to myself - does the management really think that this is what people enjoy?  Hideous.  The guy took every classic rock tune from the 1970's and butchered it by turning it into a godawful country-sounding tune.  ie:   "Yaa- ouuuuuu  -  yaa - oouuu shook me  aaaaawwwwwlllll  night long.  Yea ya did!  Yaaa  had me rawkin!!!  Yaaaa -  yaaa-ouuuuu - shook me aaaaawwwwll night long."
It took a ton of mouthwash and quite a few q-tips to get this evening purged from my body.
Don't walk, RUN - as fast as you can from this establishment.
My friend Donna and I ended up at Woody's after a long hot day at the beach. The set-up was cute and on the water. It's not a place to go for cold A/C. The inside was not cold so we opted to sit outside.
For my drink, I wanted something refreshing so I ordered a traditional mojito and it hit the spot!
For lunch I had the blackened fish sandwich. It came with a side a coleslaw, which was cold and crunchy just the way I like it. The piece of fish was huge! It was seasoned to perfection. I really enjoyed it.
The service was nothing to rave about so I'll call it average.
Donna had the fish tacos and she said that she was "pleasantly surprised." The portion was generous and she ended up taking half of it to go.
My only real disappointment was with the ladies room. It's super small and needs some major updating.
I heard Woody's has good chicken wings so I might go back and try those.
I have no clue about the food here...but it is a good place  to go if you want a cold drink, live music, and a great view. Positive-Matthew is awesome!  Negatives-only accepts cash, and the ladies restroom is not so great. I would go back. 3.95 pitcher happy hour & 2.95 22 ounce drafts.
Review Source:Woody's is a must visit Beach Bar on the north end of St. Pete Beach! CASH ONLY. Plenty of Music, Pitchers of beer and lots of Happy Hour Partying  2-6 ! This is a  casual open Beach Bar. Nothing Fancy. Best Sunsets in the area! Use Bathrooms only if necessary. Free WiFi ask for code.Watch the drinking, also a favorite area for Police Patrols , 4 more bars in the immediate area. Eat, Drink and be Merry for tomorrow may never come!
Review Source:Came here on a Monday afternoon after several hours on the beach. Â Was able to score a table on the water. Â Fun to watch dolphins play from this vantage point.
Typical bar type food. Â Nothing different that what you'd expect at your neighborhood pub. Â Sure, you pay a bit more for the location, but you can't watch dolphins swimming in the pond back home!
The special was the "BIG FISH". Â Fried haddock filet with fries. Â Nothing special... but not bad either. Â Wash it down with a beer and it's all good.
NOTE - Cash only. Â Happy Hour ONLY at the bar. Â Get a t-shirt.
So you know this place is cash only, if you forget there is an atm inside. Â This is a great little place right on the water, nothing fancy just good staff and good food. Â I had the blackened mahi sandwhich (12.95) was quite yummy, lots of bread but that was easily removed. Â Mom had the Fish Bites (7.95) which were fabulous. Â $3- 22 oz beers, WOW, that alone is worth your visit. Â There is outdoor and indoor seating, I would bring a light jacket in the winter if you sit outside, a bit windy. Â Overall a great place to grab a good bit with a great view!!
Review Source:Best happy hour around! From 2 - 6 it's pitchers of domestic beer for $3.75... Just be advised that this is "at the bar" only. It would not be fair to the servers working the tables if you were taking up valuable, i.e. tip-producing, real estate. However, it was a cold and rainy on our just-before-sunset visit (we dashed over from Corey Ave.), so not a soul was outside. After checking with the server that walked by, she said it won't be a problem, TONIGHT. I got the feeling I had been warned. Still, it was a great place to almost catch a sunset... Sadly the clouds did not cooperate.
When the weather is nice, it is a great spot for a bite outside* with a beautiful view of the Gulf and Blind Pass.
Oh, and just so you're not surprised, Woody's is CASH ONLY (however there is an ATM inside).
PS. I don't know how many wings are in a pound, but on Tuesday wings are $5.99 a pound. Sounds like a deal to me.
* Last time I ate here the food was fine, tonight we were just drinking to the sunset.
I can always watch what's going on at this place from where we stay. Â Hitting their specials in the afternoon is great, especially half price clam strips. Â A lot of folks really love their wings, I think their seafood is much better. Â Great place to watch the sunset but please bring CASH.
Review Source:First things first: Â CASH ONLY.
Everything here is good! Â It's right on the water (hence the name) and it is a gorgeous view. Â The place across the street will be empty and this place will be completely packed. Â It's great for locals and tourists. Â
Whenever my family comes in town they always mention this place and how as soon as they get here, "we have to get a mudslide from that one place!" Â
We've done the peel 'n' eat shrimp, burgers, poppers, smoked fish spread and it's all been good. Â This is just a really fun place to enjoy the sun, water and company you're with.
Some friends and I went down to St. Pete Beach for a beautiful afternoon of sun and surf, and wanted to grab some lunch on the way back home. They used to live in the area and recommended Woody's, so we stopped on in.
We grabbed a seat at the bar, and enjoyed the salty sea air and view as we ordered up some drinks. The bartender was super friendly and helpful in recommending good food. We ordered up some salads and sandwiches and just enjoyed the beautiful St. Pete afternoon.
I was shocked when I got my fried fish sandwich. I think they put about 5lbs of fried fish on a standard bun, this thing was MASSIVE. I could've easily put that much fish on 3 buns, so I was definitely happy about the amount of fish I received. However, it definitely could've tasted a little better- they put some lettuce and tomato on top, but no tartar sauce or homemade seafood sauce which would've put it over the top. It was a bit dry, but overall very tasty and it filled me up. The salads also looked delicious and were very fresh. Mozarella Sticks are also done right here- there's nothing better than a crispy, thick, cheesy Mozarella stick, and you can get those here at Woody's.
Overall, had a good experience here, but nothing knocked my socks off. Very chill atmosphere, GREAT service, and the food was good. Not great, but certainly perfect for an afternoon lunch on the water. Would definitely recommend you stop in sometime and grab a bite, and I would have no problems coming back.
Why 3 stars? Because I felt like I was in a retirement home.
 ---  ---  ---
It was like something out of a sitcom.
My girlfriend and I were the hunt for decent food, outdoors, and on the water. We tossed around many ideas and consulted our friends of long-standing residence in Pinellas County...but eventually chose Woody's. As we entered the premises, we discovered that we were among more blue hairs than the cutting room floor of a  Simpsons storyboard.
I remarked at one point, when I'm retired, this is where I need to be. Not only were there countless men and women 65 & up, but they were all as happy as a squirrel in a nuthouse. I've definitely never seen that many old folk, THAT happy at one time before.
There was a guy singing songs and playing piano. He seemed alright, but there were too many times that he would definitely be accused of "trying too hard." He thought he was auditioning for American Idol, and seemed to forget that he was just playing to an old crowd of 100 people in St. Pete. He was definitely not good enough for anything beyond that.
As for the food? Typically what you would expect for a divey place on the water. Typical burger, typical drink menu, typical fruity cocktail for the girlfriend.
Was it horrible? No.
Would I ever go back? Probably not in the next 40 years.
I was in St Pete for work and stumbled upon Woody's Waterfront Grill. Â This place is awesome if you only care about the view! Â The customers here are mostly the older retired crowd. Â I like this place because we were able to look out into the nice waters while we ate. Â It was a hot as hell day, so we needed to sit in the shade. I would have hated it if we had to sit out in the sun. Â And, since it was around noon, the whole area was a little too bright.
We were there on a Tuesday so I was able to take advantage of their special Naked wings $5.99/lb on Tuesdays. Â
The wings were decent, average. Â The ranch that came with it didn't help it much. Â The garlic fries were good, but I would have liked more garlic in it.
The service here was okay. Â And the food was the type of food you would get in a bar. Â I'd like to try out the other restaurants St Pete has to offer before I come back here.
Also, this place is Cash Only. Â However they have an ATM in the bar.
Just the kind of place I was looking for on our vacation to St Pete Beach! Â From the outside, it looks like a trailer park adorned with tacky hanging lights. It looked like a dive. My group actually thought about skipping this place, but since we were referred to the place and all we wanted were drinks, we decided to try it out. Best decision made that night! Â
The whole place looks like a dock on the water, and we sat in the patio on the waterfront. Live entertainment that night was JD on the keyboard, and he was really fun. Â
Our server introduced himself as Eddie, but I'm pretty sure his name was Kyle. He was fun like that. Great service.
We only had drinks, no food. From what I could tell though, this place was mostly for drinks and music. No problem with that. Â
Only drawbacks: Â CASH only and small bathrooms. Also something else that left a bad taste in our mouths: Â someone whom I can only assume was the owner of the place totally reamed out another server for starting to clean up and stack chairs when the night was starting to die down. Â She was very obviously upset with him for doing this while customers were still present, and she used a lot of colorful language and apparently did not mind that she was doing this in front of several groups of customers. After she left, he just looked at us, shrugged his shoulders, and grinned. We all just looked at each other awkwardly for a few seconds and then just shrugged it off too.
Overall, this place was not the fanciest, but that was perfectly fine with me. I wanted a place that catered to locals and tourists, and had that "island vacation" feel. I found it at Woody's Waterfront.
A little dirty and not recommended on a rainy day as they don't really have walls. The whole place is like a deck and they just have tarps as walls. Grandma took us here as a favorite spot for music (Carl's Piano) and grub.
I guess on the weekends, this is the place to be for drinks and dancing on the water's edge. I can definitely see why, it has a great view. Unfortunately, it was MOnday and raining when we went. So, no dice there.
It's CASH ONLY. Service was nice, but not interested. Menu was simple, wings, burgers, dogs. I got chicken fingers and they were run of the mill. I probably would not come back here to eat. Just drinks and music. I'm pretty sure that's what everyone else does too.
FYI: A large person cannot fit in their tiny tiny bathrooms and leave you purse at your table as there's no place to set it in there.
This is a great casual seafood restaurant, we'd make a point to take all of our out of town guests here for good food, live music (guy playing guitar) and the breezy ambiance of the intercoastal. Â Now that we don't live in Tampa anymore, going to Woody's is really a treat. Â We had used to make the hour drive from our house in Tampa twice a month but now we have to plan a trip around it. Â
They may have other things on menu besides the tuna steak dinner or the fish dinner (rare and blackened) but we always get the same thing because it's so good.
Bring cash, an appetite and a sweater: Â even in the summer it's surprisingly cool in the evenings.
CASH ONLY! Nice of them to tell you after you get your meal...ggrrrr. The crawfish dip was a nice change of pace. Blackend fish sandwich was fairly decent and a good sized portion of fish. Fried shrimp with fries was pretty much what you would expect it to be. Overall, not a bad place if you are looking for the usual beach fare. Killer view.
Review Source:Plenty of sunshiney, outdoor seating, direct views of the water and if you're lucky, the glimpse of someone reeling in a nice catch!
Seafood is the focus here, so try not to stray too far from that menu. The golden margarita is surprisingly great and the service comes from a sassy sally who'll charm you with her friendly banter.
A great local's watering hole that makes you feel like you've hit the islands. Cash only.
The view is about the only good thing about this place. I have been coming to Woody's for years, but it's unfortunate what has happened to management. The place will not survive if the owner is disrespectful, degrading, and just plain rude to their customers! Marlene (the owner) Â needs to learn some people skills if she wants customers to keep coming back, but she doesn't really care if you do. Don't go if you're looking for a great experience with great staff. Woody's has lost our weekly business.
Review Source:my parents have been coming here since the 70's so i've been coming here for 30 years (albeit many as a child!).. the atmosphere is very laid back, the food is good for a beach bar and live bands on the weekends are always fun. Â
if you are a fish fan, make sure to get the fish spread, it's the best! Â also love the clam strips and spicy wings.
make note this is a cash only place, so be prepared to pay with cash or you will need to get money from the high service fee atm in the bar.
Any time I visit St. Pete beach, I always make an effort to stop by Woody's. Â I love their fried clams, but not so much a fan of the fish n chips here. Â There wasn't anything wrong with the fish, I'm probably just spoiled from the regular spot I eat fish at. Â I always sit out on the patio area on the seawall and watch the boats go by, it's very relaxing. Â There's always people coming and going, but have only been once where it was almost uncomfortably crowded. Â Service has always been great, the drinks are good and affordable considering it's beach-side and touristy. Â Each time I've visited, there's been a DJ who is pretty entertaining to say the least :-) as well as a dance floor for you types who want to get up and boogie. I would recommend Woody's to anyone visiting in the area, but could see it becoming rather expensive if visited frequently. Â Park in the sandlot next to the restaurant. The biggest thing to remember here is that they only accept cash. Â There's an ATM inside the bar area.
Review Source:Came here on Easter in the early afternoon and the place was hopping! Carl was playing his piano, people were dancing and food was moving out at a fast pace. No more than 10 minutes after arriving, a bad-ass storm rolled through, forcing people to squeeze under the protective awnings. As the wait staff ran around rescuing the baskets/napkins, we continued to enjoy the music. Had eight U'Peel 'Em shrimp coated in a spicy hot powder, the Famous Fish Sandwich (blackened) and Coconut Shrimp. All were quite tasty.
A very laid-back spot on Blind Pass, it's been there since 1945 as a bait house and later on the Sunset Inn. I want to come back soon and soak up the local flavor.
#1 Woody's does NOT accept plastic! - Cash only ! -and they don't advertise this very well. I had a very embarrassing moment there one day when all I had was a card and no cash.
#2 the service is usually bad - surly waitstaff who don't hide their disdain for customers very well. It's really a shame, the location and the view this place has is fantastic- but like anything else it's the people that make the difference.

We went just for drinks and some appetizers and had the best time ever. Â Instantly, we felt like a local and regular and were serenaded for my cousin's birthday by the Double M band (they are interesting) and the best of all...PADDLEBALL BILLY (the former owner of the Harp & Thistle come to find out...and a native Detroiter, go Tigers).
Great location, want to visit during the day.
Woodys is a great super-casual spot for a drink and light lunch, especially when sitting outside right by the water! Â Their fish spread is amazing, I believe it's smoked amberjack, truly wonderful (although it would be even more wonderful if they served it with whole crackers instead of broken cracker crumbs! Â Come on Woodys, do you keep your crackers under all the pots and pans???). Â
Drinks are good, service is hit or miss but it really doesn't matter, and food is good (although we pretty much only get apps). Â
I would for sure recommend!
I absolutely LOVE Woody's!! Â The day I moved to St Pete Beach, it was our go to bar...Tall drafts & GREAT FUN!! Â Food has always been good ~ try the Ultimate Cheezburger. Â Always always a good time, atmosphere is the beach, HELLO! Â Sit up at the bar which is actually on the outside...enjoy!
Review Source:Went on a weeknight...sunset is beautiful from here. Â The boiled shrimp and fish spread were good. Â The "special" of fried fish was AWFUL. Â The breading was thick and looked like hard "peanut brittle" on the outside; under cooked, wet and soggy on the inside. Â The waitress was not the friendliest and although she took it back as requested it was apparent she wasn't thrilled (think it, feel it....but don't show it to the customer). Â Not rushing back.
Review Source:Woody's is one of my fave places to go in St. Pete Beach. This is a very basic beach bar, right on the water and it is certainly not fancy, but it is exactly what it should be for where it is.
The menu is basic, with all of the fried stuff you see at all of the other beach places, but the crab cakes and the smoked fish spread are excellent!
The beers are cold and cheap and the cocktails are great.
My one complaint is that the service can be patchy depending on who you get. It ranges from excellent to mediocre, so good luck - I hope you get one of the good ones!
I went to Woody's once when I was here for vacation and when I moved here I could not seem to find the place! Â Finally a friend told me so I went back.... and was less than excited. Â The location is beautiful- right on the water and definitely very chill. Â I think it would be good for a mid-day break from the beach to get a few drinks but we went for dinner and the food was nothing exciting- not bad, there just wasn't anything on the menu that wow'd me.
Review Source:Ok, ok...It may be pretty ordinary, but if you know what you are heading into, it's great! It's a plain and simple BEACH BAR! Â The fabulous thing about Woody's is that I live approximately a 1/2 block away from it... When I am not there, sitting outside, watching the sunset while drinking an extremely cheap, yet delicious Long Island Iced Tea... I always hear what's going on... 9/10 times it's a blast... lot's of laughing...there is always this laid-back, fun atmosphere... with live music almost every night. I guess I really appreciate people having a good time. Lord knows I love a good time!
Cheers to Woodys! I think I'll go there tonight! Woop!
Here's another place where I liked taking out of town guests when I lived in the area. It's just a beach bar, nothing special, but that's the point. Really laid back (you'd be over dressed in anything more than flip flops), pretty average bar food and beer, and the parking lot is nothing more than sand. If I still lived in the area, I probably wouldn't go very often, but if I ever return, I may pop in for a few.
Review Source:eh. We didn't get to eat here but we would have liked to. We put our names on a list in order to sit down. Stood around, stood around...waiting....sigh. Finally one of the people in our group noticed a table empty and it sat empty for a while. In fact, no one had been sitting at it the whole time. So he asked a waitess, is this table open? Cane we sit here? Yeah of course, she says. Oooook. So we sit. wait wait wait. A waitress stops by and tells us she's leaving, new shift. She wasn't sure when the girl taking over would be out but she'd tell her we were there. Ok.
wait wait wait
2 tables nearby also sat with no menus, drinks...service. One guy at another table got up to find the waitress. All the while a guy on a guitar is playing ok music (if you're 50) but it was turned up to an ear splitting volume, it was kind of annoying.
Finally we just said forget it and went to a place up the street.
Woody's is a good place to go once or twice, or if you're a tourist.
You're paying for the view, and the ability to sit on a deck, directly next to the water and watch boats pass, have seagulls sit on the wires above your head and fight for food that you drop and the sometimes live music. You can sit in your bathing suit and really don't even need shoes- but you'll wish some people weren't dressed this way.
I'm not a fan of fish, so maybe the seafood is better but the chicken and hamburgers are what I call typical beach tourist food. It's edible, doesn't have much taste, not the greatest quality, but they know they can jack up the prices because tourists will pay for it and think it's delicious because they're taking in the "WONDERFUL" view.
You'll pull into a sandy parking lot, probably forget your sunglasses, kick back some beer and hear a lot of Jimmy Buffett. The staff is friendly, it used to be kind of a hip place for the sun burned crowd over 40-50 but I think now it's becoming a hip place for younger 20-somethings as well. There's limited indoor seating and a pool table in the back.
Like I said, ok once or twice, or if you're a tourist. Otherwise go somewhere decent then walk the beach after if that's what you're looking for.
If you are visiting St. Pete, do what the locals do and visit Woody's. This very casual waterfront bar and grill is a must for relaxing and good times. Woody's reasonably priced menu is a cut above similar establishments in the beach area. The grouper sandwich is exemplary. Noteworthy, is the spectacular sunsets and friendly crowd. Parking is on the  tight side do you might have to drive around some. If you only have one chance to visit, plan coming during sunset. Expect crowds during high season.
