i enjoy this chain. i've been to the one in tampa, and pensacola... and somewhere else, but o well. the one in tampa is great! there is a giant black guy named Nate who is extremely knowledgeable in beer and mixing for great combinations. he'll infuse some of his kegs on his own to create a taste that is truly unique. and like all world of beers, it's a great atmosphere.
Review Source:This is my favorite World of Beer location in Tampa! It has a nice indoor area, as well as an area outdoors. If you sit down at a table and order from a server, the service can be kind of slow but they have a wonderful beer selection and good specials. On Tuesday nights, they have team trivia, which is really fun if you're into that kind of thing, starting at 7:30pm with WOB gift cards as prizes. I especially like how sometimes they play a song after each question that contains a hint for the question. Â On Wednesday nights, they have 1/2 off select drafts for anyone with a college ID, which is a great deal if you're a student! The Wed nights that I have gone tend to get a bit more crowded, especially when it's warmer outside, and tend to draw a much younger crowd, due to their student special (many more college kids). This WOB is also nice because they have cornhole and in nicer weather, they will have cornhole tournaments. This WOB also holds some pretty fun seasonal events -- for example, for Mardi Gras, they gave away free Mardi Gras swag (T-shirts, coozies, bottle openers, king cake, beads). They also have an annual crawfish boil with tons of crawfish, Abita beers, live music, etc.
My biggest complaint -- not enough food! I understand that this place is called World of Beer and not World of Food but at least have some more variety. There's only like 3 things on their menu, and they are all appetizery/snacky foods, such as a soft pretzel with cheese for dipping sauce. You can get food delivered from some of the other restaurants in the plaza or get take out, but it would be much more convenient if WOB just expanded their food menu slightly. Beer + empty stomach = no good.
This place is a bit away from Tampa proper, but if you live near the outskirts near 75 then this would be your joint. I came here to meet a friend to watch the GA vs AL game. This place, although is a little small, there are plenty of TVs. They also have an outdoor patio which I liked if it was a tiny bit warmer and if it had TVs to watch my beloved bulldawgs. Anyway, the beer selection is amazing, and their prices were pretty decent. They had plenty of high gravity beers, and were labeled according to type of brew. ie: IPA, Whitbeer, Heffeweissen, Porter, and so on. One thing that I do warn you is  that this place does not serve any food. So make sure you eat before or bring your own. My friend was kind enough to bring me a happy meal when I found out the lack of food. I just wish they at least had appetizers so that the alcohol and food would level me out and keep me from getting drunk.
Either way this was a great bar. Decent prices, good brews, and big TVs, just make sure you bring a doggy bag!
We visited on a Saturday night around 10:30pm, and ended up staying until almost 1am because we were having such a great time. The location is great, as there aren't a lot of bars in the New Tampa area with live music and an outdoor patio. The crowd was kind of young, but there was quite a mix. We're in our early 30's and didn't feel too out of place. Had no problem getting service and ordering our wine and beer, and then taking it out to the patio. Employees are super friendly and there are lots of them. The only thing I think they could improve on is adding more seating to the patio area. There's a lot of open space (I'm guessing on some nights it's probably for cornhole, and maybe dancing?) out there that could be filled with more tables like other WOB locations.
The band was great! Played great music that was easy to sing along and bop around to. They were even friendly and came down and socialized on their break. We started out on the patio and ended up chatting with some friendly drunks and came inside and sat at the bar (which makes for great people watching). The moscato is delicious (It's Mirrassou which you can buy at Publix for $10 a bottle vs $7 a glass here, but you pay for the experience, right?). I also had framboise for the first time, which was really good. Their selection can't be beat. My boyfriend had several new beers, including one super strong (14% alcohol content) selection that was hard to choke down.
My only complaint is that it's a little expensive. Not sure about their specials, maybe that might help, but we dropped a fair amount of money on the 6 drinks we had while there. But we'll definitely be back. We are regulars at the Brass Tap in Wiregrass, and I prefer WOB over Brass Tap any day!
Good beer selection as with all of the World of Beer locations. This location is way too small. Â There isn't much else around as far as bars go in New Tampa so it is worth a stop if you are in the area. Â If you are going for a World of Beer though drive over to Carrolwood or Land O Lakes.
Review Source:This World of Beer is really nice to come to on occasion. I live nearby so it's convenient and the selection is fantastic. The last time I went there was live music and everyone was really enjoying it. The musician played from upstairs and kept to mostly songs people knew and could sing along with.
The bartenders are always really friendly and patient when it comes to ordering beers. With so many choices, I like to try new ones and I tend to take my time when selecting. They are always very knowledgeable.
I will say however, that the tables and bar itself struggles to stay clean. Because this location is so close to the university, it has many visits throughout any given night. However Wednesday nights are the college night and those nights are extremely crowded. My friend and I got a chance to sit at the bar on a Wednesday but we weren't able to lack much because of all the arms constantly reaching between us.
Because its so close to where I live, I know I will be back. However, I also know that it won't be on a Wednesday night.
World of Beer has a large selection of beers; on draft and in bottles. The prices are fair enough considering their great taste. Wednesday nights are even better because select beers are half off due to "college night." It does get a bit crowded on college nights though, however, the staff are pretty good about getting drinks to you (and finding you among the crowd). There is corn hole outside to play and they offer you a free sample shot of beer if you "check in" on Facebook. I'll definitely be going back here!
Review Source:This is the first World of Beer I'd ever visited, and it took me a while to make it over, even though it's about a five minute drive from my parents' house. (And we all know beer is a necessity for getting through visits with family.)
All of my Floridian homies rave about World of Beer, which perhaps should have tipped me off that it would be only just okay. Here's what really got me at World of Beer: they have a list of forty or more draft beers, and I couldn't find one I really felt like drinking. Also, service was sort of a disaster and it just didn't have the feel of a true craft beer bar. Chains can be alright (Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, for one), but I get the feeling WOB doesn't have any real heart.
I wanted to try a local beer that I hadn't had before, so I asked to taste Pensacola Bay Brewery's Lighthouse Porter. Pensacola is sort of a shithole and this beer brought the nasty. Okay, that might be going too hard, but it was not a quality beer. I politely ordered a Rogue Imperial IPA instead. The beer list doesn't include sizes, so I figured I might score a deal with a pint for six bucks, but they brought out the tiniest little snifter I ever have seen.
Here's what really got me: My sweetheart ordered an ESB that was supposed to be served on nitro. Our server--who looked beyond confused to find that she was serving beer in a not particularly crowded bar on a Monday night--brought it out without a word. The beer was fine, but not an ESB. Later, my sweetheart ordered an imperial brown ale, also on nitro, and the waitress said that the ESB had been out, and she had brought him the imperial brown instead. I told you that, she insisted. Yo, she didn't.
After we each had our beers, we figured we would share another. Anything that appealed to us was out, and the prices were ridiculously high--most beers were seven bucks and up, and it's not like we're in Manhattan, y'all.
Quelle disaster.
This was my first World of Beer that I visited and I was impressed with the selection of beers and also how great this place is to chill and hangout with friends. I heard many things about it before from friends - but I never really had a reason to venture to one. Now I'm glad I did and I look forward to visiting when they have some specials so I can explore their beer list. I actually only recently started enjoying drinking beer, used to strictly like cocktails, however the nightlife in Seoul changed my opinion on beer. The bartenders were also quite friendly and that is always a plus!
Review Source:I definitely like this place. The New Tampa area is actually getting more bars and this is a very nice bar for me to go to. I like trying different beers and this is a great place to do it because of the diversity.
There is a good crowd of younger people here and lots of TVs to catch a good game. Beers are expensive, however, but still well worth the trip. Easily, one of my favorite bars to go to in the New Tampa area and it is right down the street from me house... Winning.
A great place to explore literally hundreds of different types of beer, as well as catch a game. WoB is the best bar in Tampa Palms... which is kind of like being the best baseball team in Tanzania, but it's still a very worthy destination.
Their beer selection changes all the time, but it is quite diverse and will suit even the most adventurous palates. Both bottles and drafts abound, and the very knowledgeable staff will help steer you right if you're not sure what you might enjoy. If you plan on being a regular customer, make sure you spend the $15 and get the black membership card. It comes with a T-shirt, and gets you discounted brews for life as well as other perks and a newsletter that will be emailed to you. A couple weeks back they had a few cases of the infamously impossible to find Hopslam, but it was only available card members.
They have all the satellite sports packages, so you can catch any game there, and they often run specials tied into sports, especially during football season.
The food totally sucks (and your server will even tell you that), but they also encourage you to bring your own if you'd like. More than once I've called the Olive Garden across the parking lot, picked something up, and brought it back to enjoy with my beer. There's a bizarre combination of law and lease agreement that requires them to serve food, but it can't be more than a certain percentage of their revenue, so it's not something they emphasize at all. It may sound weird bringing something from Stonewood or Red Lobster into another bar, but believe me, it's allowed and encouraged.
The only reason it's just 4 stars is some nights they have live music that isn't the greatest, and it would be nice if I didn't have to call or stop somewhere else to get decent food. But otherwise it's a total winner.
If you're 18-24, Peabody's is awesome and legendary. But if you can rent a car, it's WoB.
I've recently become a beer fan. And by recently I mean the last 18 months or so. I've always like liquor. I've always like wine. But beer was such a "man drink". Also the taste.
But then something happened. Well, really, Bell's Oberon happened and I was a changed girl. It was like my eyes opened and my taste buds got all growed up.
And World of Beer is just the place to teach them all about this new love.
I'm an IPA fan (It's like, really? I didn't like beer but now I like IPAs? REALLY?), and they always have really good choices in that regard. Lots of bottles. Lots of drafts. Delicious, delicious, delicious. Serving staff is pretty good. The girl that was serving us was new (her second day by her own admission) but she was friendly and knowledgable.
It's a great little joint, there are a number of locations and a high level of respect for product and customer service. Definitely check them out!
Great beer selection which is pretty obvious considering they claim to to be the "World of Beer" and all. I went during the day so the place was empty but the wait staff is approachable but in a somewhat detached way if that makes sense?
Overall, good beer can be found throughout Tampa but in the Tampa Palms area- great choice.
Nice selection of beer. I especially enjoyed their Fuller's London Porter. Met up with some work colleagues. We left shortly after the live music started. The talent wasn't that talented and the music was too loud to have a conversation. Also, not much of a selection on their food menu. I wasn't expecting full course meals, but maybe some typical tavern food or tapas. They just offered salsa and chips, soft pretzels or some not so good cheese or pepperoni pizza. Just an OK experience for me.
Review Source:As a true beer lover, I couldn't wait for this place. They have quite the collection of bottled beer - super overwhelming but when I go to a "beer" place, I only want draft. I tried the Key West Sunset Ale and it was amazing!! Smooth, crisp and just the right amount of sweetness. I also partook in the Harpoon Oktoberfest beer and couldn't believe how dark it was for an Oktoberfest beer! It turned out to be a good surprise, very complex beer! They do have food but it is very limited. I think they have a microwave in the back and that is it. We had soft pretzels that were most likely from Costco (but were fine). The staff was super attentive and really friendly. There isn't a whole lot of sitting in there but the decor set the mood for beer drinking and football watching - lots of flat screen TVs and brick walls.
Overall, a good experience!
Walking up to this bar, you can't help but get excited, I mean there's a huge lit up sign that says "World of Beer". If you pour it, I will come!
The bar is 2 stories but even though the first floor and the outdoor seating were completely packed, the upstairs was roped off and empty at 11pm at night?! Not sure how the wait staff were navigating trays of drinks through this place, I could barely move. The majority of beer patrons here were of college age with a few late 20-somethings sprinkled in. A great band was performing the night I was there and it sounds like they have live music like this almost every night.
The beer selection was extensive, over 500 beers and about 30 on tap. They also have a loyalty card you can get which will give you 1/2 off on some weeknights and $1 off bottles on others as well as keeping a running list of the beers you've tried. When you've tried a certain number of brews you start getting fun things like tee-shirts and bar tabs.
I only tried 2 beers since this was the second bar of the night and decided to go on opposite ends of the spectrum for fun. First was Ace Joker Cider, quite sweet and super bubbly. I was definitely letting some tiny burps out near my new friends, but a yummy Cider if you like the alcoholic apple juices. Second was Young's Double Chocolate Stout. It was dark with an underlying choco taste, but it gave me the feeling it was trying too hard.
Overall a cool place and lots of selection but I'd probably stick to early happy hours here instead of late night binges.
World Of Beer is great. I wish this place existed while I was at USF, but then again it's probably better for my liver that it wasn't. The beer selection is excellent if you're a beer connoisseur. The only downside is the size. The place always gets packed now, so standing room only is something you either have to deal with or get out. Also, when there is live music it's ungodly loud because of the small space!
Review Source:WOB is a local chain pub which boasts a very excellent variety of beer -- over 500 selections are available, and they're adding even more all the time. If you enjoy sampling microbrews and lesser-known imports, this is a great place to go. I found the staff to be knowledgeable, attentive and friendly, even in the busiest atmosphere. This gave me every reason to want to give them repeat business.
I gave four stars instead of five, only because the place is kind of small. It's not bad when it isn't busy, but if there's a band or other special going on, you might end up with standing-room only.
Finally! Minivanistan has a bar in crawling distance! Even though this is a bit of a chain, it is better than nothing. A modern interior combines with a pretty decent beer selection! It tries hard to give an impression of a metropolitan neighborhood bar as you might find it in NY or SF-a step in the right direction for our family raising paradise!
The beers are more of the serious kind (i.e. renowned Yerpean brews and solid American micros). Several Belgian beers are on tap...In summary, a good place for happy houring (if they had a happy hour deal worth mentioning-but in an environment almost without competition to speak of, they can charge you what they want). Plunk down and enjoy!
A note in proof: We went there again on a recent Sunday afternoon,. The place had an entirely different feel: A putrid spell hung in the air-apparently they mutilated some chicken wings in their recently opened kitchen, and the a/c was not able to handle this. We retired to the outside, but the smell also came from the back of the building and wafted around us...the clientele also was a notch down from Friday night...jumpsuit wearing suburbanite alcos and yapping game watchers...oh well! can we ever be happy?
