If you're a sorror-stitute or a bro-chebag, looking for a night of grinding, hookups, and regrets, this is not the bar for you.
The Deuce is easily the strangest mix of customers in the valley: graduate students, Smithies, locals, veterans, and LGBTQ patrons. That drag queen by the veteran at the bar that Lindsi was talking about in her review? Probably me. And the bar is super LGBT friendly. A guy who called me a "faggot" got banned for life and the incident itself was handled beautifully by the staff (especially the bouncers). The crowd is usually older, 30s(+), which is a huge selling point for people who don't want to deal with the angsty youth and brawls you'll find at "younger" bars.
The bartenders are super friendly and the drink prices are cheap for Northampton. Jen and Helen, in particular, mix a mean drink and will remember your face (and your order) within a few trips to the bar. The Deuce also hosts a variety of events that keep people coming back for more: Karaoke in the main bar and Trivia Night, professional wrestling nights, and the monthly Bon Appetit Burlesque show in the banquet hall.
To enjoy The Deuce, you have to love the bar for what it is: a place for gathering, pool, the occasional show, and karaoke. This is not a dance club, so don't expect an open dance floor to get your groove on, and the main room is small. It gets crowded quickly and there isn't a ton of seating for groups, so a friend-tourage of 4-6 friends works well but any larger group outings are difficult to manage. If you want to play pool or secure a table for karaoke, get there before 10:30.
Easily the douchiest bouncer I have ever encountered. Although he didn't use any actual slurs, he seemed like a racist homophobe. Then he dumped my drink and publicly shamed me.
Maybe if he had been standing by the door and telling people not to bring their drinks outside instead of chain smoking, we wouldn't have had such a nasty altercation. It's a shame that the sweet female bartender won't be getting a return visit from me due to my unfortunate interaction with this awful man.
Won't be supporting this place again.
I've been going to the WW2 club since 2004, and it has since then remained my favorite place to hang out with friends. Â The bartenders are friendly, fast, and a pleasure to talk to. Â The thursday night trivia is huge (around 100 players consistently) and super entertaining. Â The weekends are a blast, with a mix of karaoke and dancing with the Cloud 9 DJs. Â As others have pointed out, it is THE place for a diverse crowd. Â Last but not least, the in-house caterer makes some of the best bar food in town. Seriously, go there! Â You can't help but have a great time.
Review Source:This place is the best! I've been going to The Deuce pretty frequently for about three years now. Every friend I've taken to The Deuce has an amazing time and can't wait to go back!
What I love about The Deuce:
1.) Cheap Drinks: You can get drunk here (if you want) for a very reasonable price. The bartenders also mix amazing custom shots if you ask. It's nice not to spend a fortune on drinks.
2.) No Cover: Speaks for itself
3.) Karaoke: Best karaoke spot in town. The DJs from Cloud 9 are super friendly and accommodating.
4.) Dance songs: After 3 karaoke singers, the DJ opens up the dancefloor. Such a blast!
5.) The Crowd: A diverse crowd of people is so refreshing. Everyone I've encountered is super friendly. Definitely a very safe, non-sketchy bar.
6.) Parking: Plenty of off-street parking. Sort of difficult to find in Northampton!
You owe it to yourself to give the WW 2 Club a try! :-)
I'm an out of towner....this place didn't seem so fantastic overall in terms of just a night out. Space/decor/layout/bartenders/drink prices unremarkable and had to wait at the door for ten minutes.
But then again I went up to order my beer and there was a korean war vet sitting next to a drag queen. A+ for diversity of clientele which to me says that it probably has earned it's regulars and fans.
The Kareoke night (friday) was a bit of a shit show- lots of bad dancing and bad song choices - but everyone seemed to be having fun and it was packed to the brim...again indicating that it's a favorite among locals.
Stumbling drunk 40-somethings, somewhat annoying bouncers, and a complete jackass of a DJ are just some of the lowlights at "The Deuce." I can see why people come: it's CHEAP. Like really, really cheap. The bartenders were pretty friendly, as well, but that's as far as the positives go. If you want a cheap bar and don't care about anything else, this is your spot. Otherwise, you should probably avoid this place.
Review Source:I LOVE WWII !! Best bar ever in Northampton! Def worth the walk from downtown!
Never will you have a better tasting $4 long island in your life. The female bartender with the short hair is the best! 2 of those and you'll be able to sing your heart out in karaoke!
Get there early to sign up for your songs! They have a great selection of songs and the little boy DJ is the best. Sooooo funny!
I have gotten kicked out of there a few times and they always let me back. The worst part is the short bro dude bouncer. He thinks he is the shit.
Clean bathrooms, great drinks, lots of awesome old people and a very loud crazy random place to get drunk!
Thursday is trivia night, and it's one of the better trivia nights I've been to. Â When I went, we showed up fifteen minutes early and it was already packed. Â There were 29 teams playing, and the format was good. Â The drinks are cheap, the trivia is fun, and 1/3 of the money raised goes to charity!
Review Source:Do not be fooled by the name. This is one of the best places to go for a good time on Friday or Saturday nights!
I am a karaoke enthusiast and nowhere have I found better DJs, song selections, or audiences than at "The Deuce". DJ Matty and DJ Chris from Cloud 9 Productions intersperse dance requests with karaoke performances, make sure everyone gets their turn in the spotlight, and occasionally do a number themselves! I also enjoy the loyal karaoke crowd that comes out each week...I always know there will be some familiar faces on and off-stage.
There is ample table space and video games, pool tables, and lottery ticket machines for added entertainment. Did I forget to mention the periscope?!
Drink selection is good, prices are good, bartenders are awesome. The bathrooms are clean and private, unlike almost any other bar scene.
They sometimes have local acts there, my favorite of which is Wyld Stallyns, a phenomenal cover band. Try to catch them the next time they play there.
Give this place a try and you'll become a regular. See you at The Deuce!
Before renovations: This bar was considered one of THE bars worth spending time at while a local college student when it was one of the BEST dirty dive bars in western ma. Â While today's decor is something between a bowling alley and your sports-nut friend with a big TV's living room, it still has the best karaoke/dance scene in Northampton on a Friday night...
VERY chill crowd, cheap and well made liquor drinks, 2 pool tables...
Public bar, no cover, no smoking.
OK draft beer, pretty good liquor list.
till 2a.m. on Friday.
This quite possibly the greatest bar on Earth.
I am not joking.
Be prepared for the best time of your life.
Yes, it is a private club, and yes, you can join. It will cost you $5 at the door, and you then have an awesome card in your wallet to carry around showing your friends.
Get what ever beer is cheap. I think it was PBR the last time I was there. This is a cheap beer kinda place. Then sit back and enjoy the show.
What you might see here (and no, I am not joking, I personally have seen these people here)
-Lesbians making out
-An old guy that looks like Santa singing depressing Karaoke
-Bikers
-Blue collar guys unwinding
-A Zombie Horde
-A ridiculous looking DJ that sings Numa Numa (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fyoutube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D60og9gwKh1o&s=3f4c89a382fd900e0797b9f96cfa05084a456b6a675e501c33c3af6b91ec164f" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://youtube.com/watch…</a>) by request
-Goth Kids
-A slightly overweight middle aged woman that sounds exactly like Stevie Nicks
-Swingers (not the dancers)
And much more.
How all these people can be in one room at the same time is beyond me.
Prepare to stumble out with money in your pockets because it was so cheap, reeking like a cigarette, and with a million stories to tell your idiot friends that weren't there with you.
****UPDATE****
Apparently, it is no longer a private club, and no can you smoke, but it is just as awesome
