I love the food, but call ahead if you have a special craving because the menu rotates daily (we stopped going for a while because the drunken chicken &  chorizo sausage étouffée were absent).
I love the B & B & usually get more to take home, the pies are yumminess in a crust & the service is friendly (although I miss the guy that used to work the counter- the new folks never seem to recognize us & he showed us his art).
All in all, if you give me almost any menu item & Saracha chili sauce- I'm good to go!
My friends invited me to a party at their house. Â Since they live an hour away it was a given I'd be spending the night. They declared that anyone who spent the night had to go to Yats with them in the morning. Â I had never been before and didn't understand what all the hype was about but that changed quickly. Â
After a night of drinking and waking up with a weeeee bit of a hangover, their Drunken Chicken sounded like the perfect selection. Turns out... it was! Â Oh my word, it was good! There was just one problem. No one told me to ask for extra bread. Â I ended up tasting what everyone else chose, and they were all delicious too. It's also important to note it's fairly inexpensive and they give you sooooo much food. Â It's awesome. Â
I'm looking forward to my next visit. Â My next visit filled with extra bread!
...and I was doing so well with my diet.
Yes, it may not be the healthiest thing, but dear lord is it good! Tried the red beans & sausage and the drunken chicken, and it was fantastic! I just finished inhaling it, and I already can't wait to go back! Between this place and Thai Spice, I am thinking about just moving out of my apartment and living in a tent at the corner of 31 and County Line.
Oh, and the bearded guy at the counter responds to every question/statement with "Rock 'n Roll." So they get an extra 10 points for that.
Love coming here. We stop here at least every other week. Two meals for adults and out for less than $15! I can barely do that stopping for fast food.
The flavor of their food is amazing. Tad bit spicy, but I love cajun influenced food. And this is what I would consider my cold day comfort food! It's a good portion to eat half of, and save the rest for lunch the next day. Or if you are hungry its a savory filling meal. Apparently they post their menu for the day online, which I need to start following because I like their Drunken Chicken, but some of the more rare options are just amazing, and I want them but never sure when they have them!
This is some delicious cajun food!
The chili cheese etoufee is the best, and the bread is amazing. Â The extensive hot sauce selection, or should I say collection, is amazing, too.
For about $7, you get amazing customer service, a huge portion, and a full belly. Â You also get an exciting ambiance with interesting decor and lively music.
If you're not sure what to get, try a sample. Â If you don't like that, try another. Â You can keep sampling until you find something you love, and believe me, you will.
Great Customer Service. You can get half oders and there is always something new to try!! The Drunken Chicken is my all time fav!! If your unsure of anything on the menu one of the guys can explain every dish to the T...and will also let you sample which everone you want to try. They also have a variety of different hotsauce to add to spice! LOvvveeee Yats
Review Source:I love Yats, my favorite is the B&B, a combination of black beans and carmelized corn. Â I also love the drunken chicken. Â I always get the half and half, and it is reasonably priced, and more than enough to split with whatever cohort you are running with on that particular day. Â Only four stars for the food, the downtown location needs some renovation, its old and crusty, and never enough places to sit.
Review Source:I was in this cafe the other day and had the gumbo. The roux was too dark and had very little taste. They are very cheap with what they give you so overall, a lot of money for some bland gumbo that is overcooked. The one thing about Cajun food, its cheap to make because its mostly inexpensive fixings. Onions, celery, beans, ham, sausage, chicken, and if you are a real Coonass....okra. It doesn't help when the help staff is a bunch of tattooed brain dead  kids who couldn't point out where Louisiana is on a map.
Real Cajun....Hell no!
In town on business and I wanted to try something different. Searched YELP for some ideas and found YATS. Not being familiar with Cajun food the guys were quick to explain the menu and also provide samples to taste prior to deciding.
Their AC was not holding up to the 100+ degree heat outside, but the guys working were cheerful and very helpful.
I decided to try small portions of the etouffee, gumbo, and red beans and sausage. All the entrees were very good and did not taste like the fast food variety.
Prices are extremely reasonable and a great value for the price. I will definitely visit again when I am in town.
I seem to be the only one that doesn't love this place. Â I had heard a lot of good things about Yats and my boyfriend is a big fan so he took me there one afternoon. Â There were no customers when we walked in yet the place was a bit dirty (the floor could've been swept and some tables wiped off). Â There were two younger guys working and they kept talking to each other and I didn't feel they were very attentive to me as the customer. Â They seemed more concerned with their conversation. Â I liked the physical appearance of the restaurant interior. Â It was unique and kinda funky. Â They serve the food on styrofoam trays like a school lunch. Â That was a bit of a turn-off for me. Â I ordered the two half entrees. Â I got the chili cheese etoufee which was barely room temperature (seriously) and i found the flavor lackluster. Â My other entree was (I believe) the Chicken Maque Choux which was a tomato chicken dish served over rice. Â This dish was served hot and I found the flavor surprisingly complex but it was too acidic for me in the long run. Â I did, however, enjoy the cream soda they served. Â Overall, I was pretty disappointed with the experience and I haven't been back. Â I can be pretty unforgiving of restaurants when I'm spending my hard-earned money and don't feel like my patronage is valued. Â Poor service is the easiest way to lose me as a customer. Â : (
Review Source:Down to Indy to see my son. He suggested Yat's. He said, when they run out of something that is it! We only needed 1. He ordered the Chicken Etoufee and I had the Chicken Gumbo. Good sounding, but better eaten! He is no slouch to HEAT,but said it had a REAL KICK to it. I thought it was reasonably Cajun Spiced. Buyer Beware! Great tasting, great portions, and good price!
Wish there was a reasonably $$$$ Yat's in Chicago. Hell, I might open one!
Johnny Chitown....
Nom, nom, nom.. YATS! I looooove Yats, but I think I love the Yats in SoBro a little more. Food is still good here it just tastes a little different than the one we usually go to. Same great atmosphere and of course it's always poppin' at Yats. We had to wait a few minutes for a table to open it was super busy. As it should be!
Don't judge me if I order two helpings! ^__^
This review is a little late but worth posting. I took my Dad to Yats a few days before Christmas. It was his first time and he rarely veers from his normal meat and potatoes road. The guy working the counter was so kind, explaining what everything was. He helped Dad order chili cheese etouffee w/crawfish and red beans and rice, which he loved! That same employee came by halfway through lunch with a take out order of the same half and half combo for Dad to take home just because! I love the food on it's own, but it's this kind of customer service that will have me coming back again and again!
Review Source:I swear the cook here must have sold his soul down at the crossroads... Chili Cheese Etoufee is awesome. Drunken Chicken is awesome. White Bean Chili is awesome. Everything is awesome. This is comfort food in the truest sense. Wash it down with an Orange Cream soda. I always feel happier when I leave.
Review Source:I love this place. I am in this area a lot for work, and this is my favorite lunch spot. There are very few restaurant in this area worth walking into, and if you need something quick there is nothing- except Yats.
I only get 30 minutes for lunch, and if Yats wasn't here I would probably just stop at the gas station and get a protein bar on my lunch break. I know that I can walk into Yats, order, and that my order will be up by the time I am done filling my drink at the fountain. I can sit and leisurely enjoy my meal- a fact which means a lot to me on a hellish day at work. If I went to a fast food joint I wouldn't even get my food this quickly. I would end up eating in my truck and off of a piece of wax paper no less!- Not to mention that the food would be disgusting.
At Yats, I get some good food, it's inexpensive, the portions are enormous, and I never leave hungry. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and they often pick up my plate for me when I am finished- something that-given the way the restaurant is setup- they definitely don't have to do. You are definitely supposed to bus your own table.
While the outdoor seating nothing impressive and the only view you have is of the Greenwood Park Mall and the intersection of US 31 and County Line Road, it is great to be able to sit outside on a beautiful day. Really- how many places in Greenwood have outdoor seating? I can probably count them on one hand.
My favorite is the B & B- black beans and caramelized corn, but everything is good- except for the Chili Cheese Etouffee with Crawfish. Why do they even bother putting crawfish on this at all? You certainly can't taste it over that cheesy sauce. This dish is an affront to the deliciousness of crawfish.- If the Hunter's Stew is available, order it. It is hardly ever around, and it is phenomenal.
So during my stay in Indiana, my friend took me here and he raved about the food being amazing.
So my group of friends and I came into Yats on a blazing hot Indiana day and we each ordered their split meal plates. I ordered the white chili with chicken and B&B (on their vegetarian menu- it's basically bean & corn). The serving plates looked small but it was filling to the point where I couldn't finish it. Their rice and bread was delicious. I would definitely order extra bread the next time I'm back here. My friends also ordered the etoufee and the jambalaya so here is my verdict on the food:
The chili tasted good. If you like chili give this a try.
The jambalaya was good too but be warned that it was SUPER spicy. My friends and I grew up in families eating A LOT of spicy southeast Asian food and this dish made us sweat a bit. After we finished eating, our stomachs were slightly warm. Not my favorite dish, but if you love spices try this dish,
I absolutely fell in love with the etoufee and the B&B. The B&B was sweet so I paired it with one of the plethora of hot sauces they offered and it was just as amazing. If you dont know what to pick when you get here, these 2 would be a great starting point.
Service was nice and friendly too so that's a huge plus.
I would definitely be craving this place back here in Cali.
One of the best kept secrets in Indiana, shouldn't be!! Great place to go w the kids for quick, cheap eats!! Like fast food, with flavor and real plates! The rotating menu frustrates some customers but I love it because it makes me try new stuff. They even offer small samples so you don't accidently order something and not like it.
Review Source:First, the map is way wrong, so it is almost impossible to check in here.
The food is excellent. Â For a first time Yats eater it was a little difficult to figure out the process for ordering etc. Â I had the etoufee, and my wife had the drunken chicken. Â Super Spicy, and really really good!
Would be 5 stars if not served on styrofoam! Â The most ungreen option possible.
This Yats seemed to have more menu choices on the board than the Mass. Ave., Broad Ripple, or 96th Street locations... or maybe we were just there early in the day.
Huge plus: real plates.
Same kind and friendly staff you'll find in other Yats locations, maybe even more so!
I was going to go for my usual favorite, the B&B, when I noticed (and ordered) mach choux - delicious!
I think it is fair to say that there aren't very many good, original, and inexpensive places to eat on the south side. No bias here, I live on the south side.
If you haven't already tried Yats, then do yourself a favor and make it your next meal. But beware, if you order the chili-cheese ettouffee you very possibly will fall in love and forget about the other delicious options. If you are already familiar with Yat's other locations, then have no fear, the south side location offers the same great tastes.
My one BIG complaint is that they often use Styrofoam plates, cups and plastic disposable utensils! Come on Yats, get with the times! I would give out five stars if it weren't for this big factor.
I normally frequent the Mass Ave Yats, but I was down in Greenwood running some errands and stopped in for lunch. Â The food was of course the same awesome food at any Yats. They did seem to have more selectoins at this location, maybe due to larger size. Â They had the Jambalaya which they don't seem to carry a lot on Mass Ave so I was really excited. The other difference was that if you were eating in they served you on real plates, which was nice. Save a little styrofoam from the landfill.
Overall this is just as good as any other Yats, so if you're nearby stop in for a bite.
This Yats location isn't as lively as the Broad Ripple location but the food and service here is always terrific. Â I always get the Crawfish Etouffe to go and by the time I finish my hot sauce concoction...my order ready to go. Â The portion size is very decent for the price, I always ask for extra bread so I can soak up every last drop.
Review Source:The bread is delicious and goes with everything. Â
I prefer the broad ripple and downtown locations but sometimes find myself craving Yats while I'm on the south side. Â It's my favorite "fast food" although they don't have a drive-thru, they are very fast! I get the same thing each time Chili-cheese etoufee. Â Their Maque-Choux and Pazole Stew are great too! I have had the spinach and Mushroom etoufee with shrimp which is good but I could do without their shrimp even though I'm a huge seafood lover. Â I wish they would put their crawfish tails in everything thing they make, especially the Maque-Choux. Â YUMMMM Â
If you follow them on text or facebook you will constantly be reminded of the flavors and coming in to get more. And after trying this place you will want to. Not sure what is in the glop of food over plain white rice but it's good and worth coming back for! :)
The Greenwood GPS location might be incorrect? Â It never let's me check in here....food is great though and come often!
I simply can't get enough of Yats Southside.  I've come to know the folks there and they're always helpful and great to work with.  If there's anything with spinach étouffée, I'm all over it.  Be sure to try the gourmet sodas along with your meal for a nice touch.  Even though the portions are amazing, leave some room for the cheesecake.
I've loved Yats for such a long time - it's great having one just around the corner. Â I'm there about every week or two. Â They also have some great Wifi if you want a place to just get some work done!
Absolutely loved this place. Â
I had the spinach and mushroom over rice with some yummy sourdough bread. Â I ate the whole thing up. Â and Yes, i got a FULL plate. Â no HALF orders here. Â
my BF comes here a lot and typically eats only 1/2 and saves the other half for a meal later on...i have absolutely NO idea how he does this!! Â
my plate was clean, and if i didn't eat all of my bread right away, i would have literally cleaned off my plate with the bread!!
FABULOUS!
First things, first. The location of this Yats on the map is wrong. It is on the corner of County Line and 31. I found this out by trying to check in here, and not being able to.
I had the yummy Chili Cheese Etouffee for $5.37. Pretty good size portion, and very yummy. My wife got the same thing, only "half" the portion for $4.50.
Very cool that Greenwood has one of the few Yats. Not complaining. I love supporting local restaurants. Feels a little out of place for suburban Greenwood, but hey, like I said before, I'm not complaining.
Definitely try it out. They also have free wi-fi, in case you were interested. I don't think they mind people just chillin' in Yats either. I mean, the employees go and get on their laptops in between customers. It's a pretty laid back environment.
I LOVE YATS! Â So, I was very excited to find one on the South side when we moved down here! Â
My fave dish that I recommend to everyone is the chili, cheese etouffee.
I also enjoy the staff every time we go there. In the couple minutes it takes to order and get food, they are super friendly!
Anyone from out of town, you HAVE to try this place. It's the one true "local foodie" restaurant that you can't get many other places. Joe is a godsend to the Indy area. If it's not true Cajun, it's certainly authentic to my remembered tastes and spices. The menu changes everyday, but I'm pretty sure they always have their most famous (and most delicious) dish, the Chili Cheese Etouffee.
I recommend the Chili Cheese Etouffee, of course, but do a half and half with the B&B, Macque Choix, Jambalaya, or anything else that strikes your fancy. You can ask for samples if you're not sure and want to taste it first. The bread is good and you get unlimited refills at the soda fountain.
Local Yats
I am so happy and excited to have a Yats on the south side.
No, the ambiance is not the same as Mass Ave. and BR but this is a really big step up for the south side. You have to remember this is in a strip mall, on US 31, so to me having a Yats at all is great!
I was here on opening day, the day after opening day, and the day after that... (then I went to Cali for a week) but have been back at least once a week since then. I love that we finally have another locally owned eatery to visit.
Every day this place seems to get a little bit better and a little bit more familiar with the true Yats concept I have grown to love over my years in Indy.
