Where to start, 4D? more like 2D.... First of all I  must say this establishment has a lot of potential and I feel that it's such a disappointment that this place did not rise to my expectations. I thought the cover charge was a deal ($6) but then I realized how shitty the place was and wanted my money back. Perhaps the location does not give 4D a fair chance, but if it was that great of a place, people would go. It might be that there is TOO much free space. There's a million pool tables and couches that no one wanted to dance except sit on their ass and stare at the dance floor, desperately hoping for someone to initiate the  energy of the night.  My friends and I were trying to have a good time despite the poor enthusiastic aura, but it was hard to get into it when the DJ couldn't get his shi.... um, music together.... The mixes were horrendous and when one good song came on he interrupted it with a track of "THIS IS DJ ______ (insert name: dumbass)" and it completely ruined the moment. There was one girl who I nicknamed "candy pants" (due to the color of her pants) who was the only one dancing for most of the night and she was trying to get people to join. As amazing as her efforts were, they sadly went to waste. Would I return? Probably not, and the pool rental would be my only interest but at $14 a table, I'll pass.
Review Source:Finally! We get to explore Monrovia. Thanks to Yelpers, the Mr. found 4th Dimension.
Yes! As other mentioned, pool all night, flat rate $14. The downstair section was closed. We came on a Wed night. Didn't play pool, just got a drink at the bar. Whiskey sour for me and just the Black Crown for the Mr. My drink was good, his Bud's lager was bland. 2 drinks for $10, not bad.
They also had $1 shots, kamikazes, sour apple and something else. It was all pre-mixed, but hey, you can't often find $1 shots now a day.
Their happy hours is 3:30p-8p Tues-Sat, all day Monday.
They have some finger food and stuffs like pizza and quesadilla. Maybe we'll try when we come back.
The staffs are pretty nice there.
Good find. It'll be a better find if they'll have amazing burger too :)
It's been a long time since I've been to The 4th Dimension. It is a huge venue, dance floor downstairs, pool tables upstairs. Many couches to lounge around on and big screens with the game on.
Happy hour all night Monday and unlimited pool for $14. That's a steal for a night of fun. Â Cape Cods and Dos Equis and about 5 rounds of hang time around the pool table catching up on lost times. Â Don't forget the country music. Good times to be had here.
It's not fancy or trendy, just a casual place to shoot pool and have a few drinks. Â But parking was convenient. the people are nice and its comfortable.
Went here after some curry in Duarte, purchased an AmazonLocal deal which was $23 for 12" Pizza, Pitcher of Beer and unlimited pool. WELL WORTH IT!
Arrived approx. 8:30pm on St. Patrick's Day Eve, impressed with the overall look of the place. Plenty of pool tables to choose from and more downstairs which weren't available until after 9pm. We ordered the beer whilst we set up our first game of pool for the night, it came out green (for St. Patty's) which was a very nice touch. The pizza that came with the voucher was also very good. I wish I bought more of these vouchers. Domestic pitchers were $14 and the rest were $17.
Waitresses were very friendly and helpful. Overall happy with the music that was playing, not too loud and mostly top 40 stuff.
The 4th Dimension is located in Old Town Monrovia, quite a cute place to spend an afternoon walking around and checking out stores and shops.
$17 for unlimited pool play and $3 well drinks. Their happy hours are very convenient and are available on the weekends. They had a live band playing while we were there shooting pool and hanging out. Their rum and coke is quite strong, unlike other places where it just tastes like coke.
Overall, the place is very spacious and there is even a downstairs. We did not order any food but the waitress was very nice and came by every so often when she spotted new people join our group. Service is great and it's a chill place. Would love to come back for more pool.
This place has all you can play pool!!!
I am ashamed to say that I have not discovered this place any sooner. Or rediscovered I should say. I have actually been here once, many many years ago.
$14 bucks will get u unlimited play with unlimited friends on a table all night. What can go wrong?
Drinks r pretty decently priced. I got a jack n coke with a heini for 11 bucks. Got another jameson for 7 more.
They also got a dance floor in the basement level.
Staff is very friendly. Sarah is quickly becoming my favorite waitress!
This place is good if you don't go on a busy day i.e. Friday or Saturday because they will charge you a 5 dollar cover at the door because they have a 'night club' going on in the lower level of the pool hall. Notice how I put 'night club' in quotes?
If it weren't for this fact, I would probably give this place a 4 star. It's a good spot to go to for cheap drinks, and one of the only decent spots to play pool at with a friend (The other being Jaime's).
It's very spacious with a ton of tables so you never have to wait behind other people to get a turn.
I like to come in on Mondays and only Mondays for football on the big screen because they have all-day happy hour which = $3 mixed drinks and beers. Otherwise I believe the Happy Hour ends @ 8 PM.
Food is decent, but nothing I would rave about. Your standard bar food.
$97 for some drinks, pool and one plate of zucchini? Really? Also, make sure they give you what you ordered because I ordered the whiskey happy hour drink since I was there at 4pm and they gave me the regular $7 drink with an "oh sorry" once the bill came. The drinks are weak as a mofo also. Literally a splash of whiskey. Just crappy.
Service was nice enough. I'm pretty sure he was the owner. $97 for a few drinks and pool, not worth it at all. I will not be returning to this place. I do not recommend it at all.
I love this place, is a total kick back place. My friends and I come here to celebrate birthdays & just to kick back. The boys play pool & the girl dance the night away.. We always look for our favorite waitress.
Cons: They need a little help with the food, but when you drunk everything taste good. We are loyal customer of 4th Dimension.
Last night we discovered this place heading north on Myrtle, looking for another bar other than London. Â They have pool tables on the left side, lounges on the right, full bar in the rear and a dance floor on the lower level. Â
They have club nights on Friday and Saturday nights with security in the front with full search. Â They have an ancient projection screen towards the bar area. Â Drinks are reasonably priced with generous pours. Â We went downstairs to check out the dance floor and it was empty but the DJ was spinning. Â It was about 10p and after talking to a patron outside he said it will get busy around 11ish. Â
This is a cool spot for big parties and to watch games. Â I'm a fan and definitely coming back here.
Came here for the bf's bday a few weeks ago. And we thought it was pretty decent!
The place is pretty big, no charge at the door FYI, and it is 2 floors. Top floor has all the pool tables + big bar + outdated but clean restrooms + lounge area + huge projections screens with music videos AND a glass floor looking thing where you can see part of the dance floor below! ya! pretty neat. And that's only the 1st floor son!
2nd floor has ANOTHER bar, a seperate section of fooseball tables, and of course, the dance floor. The club downstairs is as big as the 1st floor.
We rented a pool table for the night, ordered plenty of drinks with the waitress and at the bar, ordered food, which wasnt all that, but! it is pool hall food, so that explains. Finger foods are good while drinking so we take it as it is. We had a good crowd of friends there, and everyone fit in our designated rented area.
Recommend =)
I've got to give it an upgrade. Your pour depends on the bartender. The owner pours 'em proper, and so do a couple of the other guys. As bizarre as this place is, I've come to enjoy it for it's faults.
And despite the rough edges, strangely mixed crowd (like Monrovia in general), and hit-or-miss drinks... the bottom line is that IT IS CHEAP and IT IS A GOOD TIME.
A few friends, cheap drinks (weak or otherwise), and a pool table you pay flat rate for the entire night... even with the funky furniture , strange layout, and at times evident neglect.... you can't help but have a blast.
This is an absolutely serviceable venue if you and your friends can hang around a pool table, drink, and enjoy each other's company all night.
If you're looking for a nightclub steer clear, unless you plan to bring people to fill the dancefloor with you.
Came here on 9/24/11.
Pro's: 50+ pool tables, cheap drinks (relative, $6 wells and beers)
Con's: Awful DJ, $5 cover when they should be paying to get you in (it was that bad), Awful crowd, you are patted down to get in (Wtf? Are you kidding me Monrovia?), Awful building set up.
There are two levels. Up stairs is 30ish pool tables and a bar, and down stairs is the "dance floor" (my living room is bigger than it) with another bar and 20 more pool tables.
Who ever designed the floor plan for this place really had awful foresight. They need to take make down stairs just for dancing / lounging and keep upstairs for the pool tables. And for the love of god, FIRE YOUR DJ. The only way to describe the music would be if you went to Mexico in the 90's. I heard only one song that was played which came out in the last year (Deadmau5 to be honest, I was impressed!!!) while the rest of it was pure garbage.
I would not recommend this to a friend and won't come back ever again. I've been to many clubs and this place takes the cake for being awful.
Visit Menage in Pasadena, 15 minutes up on 210. You won't be dissapointed. Avoid this like the plague.
I actually know very little about pool halls, as the only times I play pool tend to be in more private settings. That being said, here's a basic sum-up of my experience there.
The last time I was here, came just for the bar. One of the few places still open late in Old Town Monrovia. They have a club setting downstairs, the source of where the loud noise is coming from, even on slow nights. I hear it's kinda nasty down there as well. And not in a good way.
You know what else is nasty? Their men's restroom. Just sayin'.
Is $14 for unlimited play a good deal? I guess it beats paying $17 on their more popular nights (Friday & Saturday). We had arrived around 10:30pm and had no trouble finding a pool table. The fabric are worn out, which is apparent as you play along the surface. The cue sticks are old as well, though that's something I can live with. Despite this, it was fun. We managed to get 3 games in.
I saw a Foosball table there as well, but alas, it was getting late. So I'm issuing a challenge. Next time...
I wouldn't come here if I see a bouncer out front, but on off-days like this, 4th Dimension provides a pleasant local spot if you're looking for something to do on a late evening.
Came here for an event and absolutely loved it! Who knew there's a foosball table on the ground floor? I've been searching all over yelp for a friendly neighborhood area that boasts a foosball table, and just my luck, I found it! Yet, you have to bring all your laundry money with you because they only accept quarters. .50 cents for five balls.
Not to mention that the price is fairly reasonable, around $14-16 during Monday to Thursday and ~$17 Friday to Sunday.Oh, and the Monrovia Public Library is directly opposite of the joint.
What more can you ask for?
A buddy of mine stumbled into this place recently while picking up a pizza from a joint next door. Â The place itself is nothing spectacular...however the price just can't be beat.
Happy hour ends at 8PM ($2 for 16 oz. domestic beers and $3 rum and coke and a few others mixed varieties.) Â No top shelf stuff but for $3, come on...and on Tuesdays it's $1 Coronitas.
Excellent place to catch a game...lots of TVs and 1 large projection by the bar area. Â Like I said this is no hot spot but it's a great place to come for a few brews after a long day of work, shoot some pool with your friends and catch your favorite teams play. Â Never gets too pack so no line at the restrooms, always a plus. Â Worth at least a one time try...right across the street from the library but be careful when going home there's a police station right around the corner.
Came here this past weekend for a birthday.
I like the set up of this place. When you walk in you'll see a bunch of pool tables to your left. To the right, it seems like a small lounge area. And far back is the bar.
I didn't go down stairs but I heard downstairs was like a club.
The servers are pretty attentive and they kept everything clean.
The bar service was pretty good and drinks were pretty cheap! Only 7 dollars for a shot of grey goose and it's a pretty big cup-so it's likea  double shot!
Restrooms are pretty clean.
The crowd was pretty diverse on a Saturday night and it wasn't crowded at all.
Overall, not bad. Pretty cool place to go drink and chill and play some pool :)
A pool hall is a pool hall so I know I shouldn't expect too much. Â But still, the downstairs at this place is disgusting! Â I love that they have the little "club" set-up downstairs. Â It isn't something I directly make use of but it does provide an immense amount of entertainment when watching others dance to the unbelievable random songs that sound like they are mixed together with a winamp fad in/out. Â
The last time I came here with friends a few weeks ago all the tables upstairs were filled, so we played downstairs. Â As long as you stay on the top floor this place really isn't bad. Â The tables are clean, there is a full bar, waitresses are generally around enough and food isn't too bad. Â This all adds up to a decent, relatively inexpensive good time with friends. Â However head downstairs like we did and be prepared for absolutely filthy tables coated with dust and stains, and really really bad service. Â Our waitress brought our pitcher of beer then repeatedly forgot to bring us mugs for 20 minutes until a security guy went and got us some. Â This was most likely because she herself was drunk (you could seriously smell the alcohol on her breath), but her drunkenness shouldn't have left us to drink a nasty, warm pitcher of beer because of it. Â
If I had never played pool downstairs this place would have 4 starts, but since the bottom floor deserves 2 (and that is only because of previously mentioned "dance floor"), I'll average it out at 3.
If you and your friends don't want to spend that much money, want to just relax, chill and just hang out, the 4th Dimension is the place to be. This is one of the cheapest billiards in Los Angeles, around $14 of unlimited play on the week days and around $17 on the weekends. I you dived that with 4 of your buddies, you are just paying $3.50 a person! Come before 10 so there is no $5 cover charge.
The location is situated in a nice, serene neighborhood of old town Monrovia, with tree lined streets and mom and pop shops. 4th Dimension has it all!
Upstairs
- Billiard Tables Upstairs (are clean and well taken care of)
- Outdoor patio for smokers
- Coach Lounge with Aquarium
- Sports Bar
- Happy Hour and Food!
Downstairs
-Billiards Tables Downstairs ( are very dirty and have lots of stains)
- Bar
-Arcade
- Ping pong table, foos ball table and air hockey.
- Night Club to go Dancing, DJ, Lasers and Dance Floor
- VIP area where you can hold a party
I don't know why this place has only 3 stars but I think this is the cheapest place to play billiards in the LOS ANGELES/SGV area! From outside, this place looks pretty nice (since it's across from the Monrovia Library and near downtown Monrovia and there are pretty lights in the trees). But it is pretty shady looking once you go inside. Depending on the days, usually weekend (Fri-Sun) they check your I.D. to see if you are 18 and over. I think it's 21 and over now cause of someone carrying a gun in there....
Um, not trying to scare you. Aside from thaaat, there is NO hourly rate for playing pool! You play a flat rate only (I believe it's $14 or $15 now), I haven't gone there in half a year already... But, the cherry cokes there are sooo cheap ($2.00 for a large cup). The alcohol price is not so bad either! Also...I actually like their turkey sandwich!
Overall, this place is great for pool but the environment is kind of shady just to let ya know!! (Oh the good thing is that they do have free dancing on Fridays.... it's a small dance floor but hey if you truly like to dance you wouldn't care how small the dance floor is).
Go Sun - Thurs, unlimited pool for $14 bucks. Pitchers of Blue Moon (my fav beer) is only $14 bucks. Â Also get a huge basket of fries for $2bucks and you are set!
Pool tables are torn up to the flooor up.. the more you drink the more you can tolerate the ball going all crazy.
p.s. the waitress said 4d is also called Fat D.. lol
We always laugh when we hear of the most random things being combined in businesses. Â I remember a commercial a while back that made a joke about this very thing. Â So who wouldn't be skeptical when someone says, "Let's go to 4th Dimension. It's a pool hall AND a nightclub!" Â WTH!?
The pool area is pretty chill. Â I could see bringing a big group of people and just chilling by some tables, playing, talking, eating, laughing. Â They've got plenty of space for that.
Then there was the nightclub area. Â Granted, I didn't get past a few steps into this area, but I heard the music, and the dj wasn't that great the night I went.
Maybe I just wasn't into the crowd that was there (besides the people I was with there already of course), but I probably wouldn't consider going back to this place. Â They get two stars and not three for combining a pool hall and nightclub, WTH!
Billiards and dudes, and not much else. Â I was here the other day for a pool tournament with a bunch of dudes I did not know, and two dudes I did know. Â Overall, it was a fun time and for a good cause. Â Well, you might be wondering, is that it?? Â No, no, that's not it at all.
The place is really big and really clean, but at times seems like it could get pretty boring there. Â Our service was pretty good. Â Every time I wanted an appetizer or a drink, our waitress seemed to be around, and the drinks and food both came out quickly. Â The food wasn't great, but what do you want for a pool hall making appetizers? Â It was on par with most bowling alleys. Â Anyhow, if you have a hankering for playing pool, head on down to the 4th Dimension and you will have a ball busting time.
The billiards here are cool, so are the drinks.
When it opens up for the club portion of the show, that's where it goes downhill!
Ghetto baldies, hoodrats, etc... Ay ya yai.
They are strict as hell on enforcing the dress code, which is cool, but you better watch out--a different cholo gets kicked out of here almost nightly ( I assume).
I do love the after club banter, when dudes are trying to score last minute digits, of course it doesn't quite work out.
"Hey, I could buy you, honey!"
"You can't afford me, PUTO!"
Yep, they be saying that.
A great place to go if you're looking to actually shoot pool. Not the best place if you're looking to meet people or looking for a trendy spot. If you're looking for something a little more upscale, try Diamonds in Brea.
I've been coming here since high school days and have always had a good time. Great prices, friendly staff and usually no problem getting a table.
I say bring some good friends, grab a pitcher of beer.. and have yourself a great time.
Maybe I'm truly ghetto, or maybe I'm just gangster, but I don't see why everyone hates this place so much. I remember the old hs days at local pool halls, such as International Club (aka IC) or Cueball, where some Asian thug would get shot at least once a week. Nonetheless, sharks like me can never stay away from "stroking the shaft" or chancing a "ball in hand."
By sharks, I mean whores.
So when my g friends and I walked into 4th dimension, I was pleasantly surprised by their decent prices - unlimited play for $15 on weekends and $12 on weekdays. There were plenty of open tables and no one bothered us too much. We also ordered some beers and fries, which were as greasy as expected. Just be careful when playing with me, because you may get "snookered"...and like it.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Don't do it. I promise, you will be disappointed if you come here. This place has all the qualifications for a last resort.....
1) Cheap drinks.
2) Music
3) Ugly people
4) Ghetto
There you go... I saved you a trip.
and I just want to add....The Dj and his "crew" are ugly, disgusting, fat pigs that blantly molest the drunk girls. It's really pathetic.
It's a big empty cavern if you get there too early. Â And the barstools are bolted to the floor, so before you give yourself hernia trying to move them, be aware..they don't move. Â I asked the 'tender about happy hour, and she said they don't have one. Â BAD!!
But, they have the hockey games on. Â So while playing pool and downing some vodka, I got to see the blue jackets play a good game. Â Yea, its mostly Mexican, so my friend and the waitress were the only white folk there, and maybe they do dress a little "ghetto", but they are harmless folk. Â It was amusing to watch the little tiny Asian girl next to us attempt to play pool with a big huge back pack on. ?? Â Then I realized, she probably thought all of us Mexi's were gonna steal it if she set it down...*snort* Â
They have a menu, but I really can't see eating here when there are so many other nice options and places to eat in the village.
Tip to 4thD: Â Get a vaccum with one of those little small crevice/corner attachments and vaccum the lint that is built up in creases of the pool table! Â I am not even a neat freak, but it was really freaking me out.
Most everyone I know doesn't like this place but I do. Â It's definitely not a ritzy place or even a decent place to dance. Â I go there to have some cheap beers and play pool. Â It's only a couple blocks from my place. Â The people aren't too bad - I wouldn't really say they're ghetto obviously these people haven't been to the ghetto. Â This isn't quite a dive place but it isn't really a nice place either. Â I like it though.
One thing that is fairly new and disappointing is the $5.00 cover on Saturdays.
The only reason I'm giving this place a "2" is because it has about 14 pool tables and I think that's pretty cool, even though the atmosphere is pretty retarded. Â
We used to go here quite often when it was considered a "pool hall" (about 3 years ago). Drinks were cheap, and it didn't smell like urine. Â
We waited about a year and then one night with some friends thought, "Hey!, you know what? We haven't been to the 4D in awhile; let's go" Â
WOW... All of a sudden this place gathered a smell of Drakkar Noir mixed with shame. Â The drinks were double the price and the service sucked. Â They also charged a cover charge to get in! Â ....We're in freakin' Monrovia!!.. Â We figured we'd go down the street and find somewhere else that was more "friendly". Â
If you're looking for the dumbest place to spend money in Monrovia look no further than the 4D, it won't let you down.
I've only been to this place once, but my experience wasn't as bad as everyone else's. I actually had a good time. It isn't my favorite place...but I'd still go back.
The concept was cool...two floors w/ pool tables. On weekends, the top floor has a live band, while the bottom floor has a live DJ w/ dance-floor. The time I went...the DJ played Dance, R&B, Hip Hop, and Dancehall.
It's a cool place if you want to hang out w/ your friends, and shoot some pool. Â I'll probably check it out again to see if I change my mind about this place. Stay tuned Yelpers.
Only good thing I really see about this place is the Tuesday specials of 2 buck beers and 2 buck well drinks. Â There are a bunch of pool tables there, but kind of a sleezy vibe. Â Went on a friday night. Â Went to check out the dance floor, but it was pretty sad. Â Music was not really danceable, and it was mostly ghetto lookin dudes wall standing looking to spit some game and ugly girls. Â But drinks are cheap, which might make the guys and girls look a lil better. Â
I won't be back there, unless it is for a Tuesday happy hour to shoot pool.
