Sloppy service.  Dulled down flavors, uncooked shrimp, waiter, Andre, did not have a clue of how to serve customers.  As a southerner, I am embarrassed that people may think this is authentic low country food--it is not--the kitchen needs to discover spices and check the safety of their food (lawsuit waiting to happen!). The manager seemed impotent to act and seemed surprised that I complained--she needs to check Yelp more often.

Breakfast is the best on the isle! I love you, Acme Kitchen!

Seriously, the Southern Benedict is MIND BLOWING. The potatoes, the service, the decor.

Love it all. Stop reading this review, just go!!!!

4.5 stars! Cool little place near the beach.  It's a very casual and comfortable place.  Crowded for a Saturday lunch but they got us seated quickly. The service was excellent.  I had a shrimp po' boy and my wife has the fish tacos.  Both were great.  Some TVs in the bar area.  I'd stop in again when out at IOP.

Food was ok until we found a hair in it. W had six people and they said we would have to sit outside on the covered porch or wait about an hour, although they had a large corner booth right in front of us. The porch had a metal roof with no insulation so was like being in a sauna in the 95 degree heat and humidity. They did have a fan, so it was a little more tolerable. W will try SeaBiscuit next time.

Went for dinner based on a friend's recommendation.  Unimpressed.
Positives:  attentive staff, executive chef stopped by to check in twice.  Another helpful team member offered me an extra side item with my dinner, just because.  Negatives: Food was mediocre; I've had much better seafood.  For two draft beers, two glasses chardonnay, one kids meal, 2 adult entrees and an appetizer, including tip, the meal was almost $130.  Not worth that.  We asked for and got patio/outdoor seating. Little did we know how dirty this area was or that the smoking population would be congregating beside us. There is zero ambience on the patio.  A few candles, some music may have helped, but instead the local then national nightly news played on TV and beside us was a filthy arcade game that really needed a hosing down.  This place could really be turned around with some attention to detail, cleanliness and "smoking space"

tl;dr: The drinks are strong and the food is delicious, but the hostess could have been more organized.

We went on a Friday night, so they were quite busy, and the hostess was less than organized leaving a lot of tables open and people waiting to be sat. We decided to wait in the bar, where there were open tables, only to be told by the hostess that we could not sit at the tables. She then changed her mind, 5 minutes later, and offered to let us sit at a different spot at the bar, to which we countered that we were happy to stay where we were and she relented. Once we were done dealing with the hostess, the wait staff was much more easy to get along with and they were quite responsive in bring drinks and our orders. I had the 'Knot Friend' and was very pleased, but was not impressed by the truffle butter on the steak. My wife had chicken tacos which were absolutely delicious.

It pains me to write a negative review for the Cantina.  I like this place.  The food is great.  But...tonight we waited 20 minutes to be seated while staring at plenty of open tables.  The manager said the kitchen was backed up so they weren't seating anyone until they could get caught up.  It's Summer dude, get your kitchen up and running.  At least let us sit and have a drink.  We left.  Bummer.

The breakfast burrito was amazingly bad. You wouldn't think it possible to screw up something so simple, but Acme did. Everything inside the burrito was mashed up, as if they'd thrown eggs, chorizo and peppers into a blender and poured that into a tortilla.

And we really HATED to disturb the host from reading the morning newspaper with our patronage. Guess what, buddy? We won't bother you ever again, so you can keep reading that paper!

Love the laid back feel of this place. Great Rita's. Best French fries dark and crisp yummm. Fish tacos taster. Lots of fresh veg on them. MY MAN SAYS THE BURGER ROCKS. ...OK we went back OMG the calamari is the best I have ever eaten. Fried with lemon slices and celantro. Never had better.

Was looking for breakfast on the IOP... other than the wait time.  It's kinda funny to walk in, see a bunch of empty tables and hear that the wait time is 30min.  The hostess said they don't like to seat people and have a terribly long wait (since the kitchen was backed up) which makes sense... but it turned off a lot of people looking to get some breakfast in on a Sunday.

With my wait, I was able to read the specials (at my leisure)... so I was ready to order when I sat down.

Dark Chocolate Chip Pancakes, bacon, home fries, and coffee and water.  I thought the wait was worth it... the pancakes were huge and fluffy.  I disappointingly was not able to finish them off they were so big.  They also came with a homemade root beer syrup.  The bacon was nothing to scream about... I prefer mine crispy, but I think in the kitchen's rush to cook... they kinda fell soggy and limp this morning.  Homefires were good - had green peppers and onions in them.

I was solo, so the waitress was really nice and prompt... my coffee mug was kept full until I had a nice full bladder to hit the road on.

I've never looked at the "noise level" on Yelp before, but after I arrived, I realized that I should do that. I don't know if they normally have music there, but there was some crazy loud music playing, and I despise loud music while I'm enjoying a meal with friends. :x Then again, one of my friends later said they thought it was for a birthday party when they went to check.

Anyway, I digress. The service was good. Luckily, we got to sit far away from the music, and there wasn't anyone else in our room. Whew. The food - well, I got the fish tacos to share because my friend LOVES fish tacos, and I thought they were mediocre. She was disappointed, but she told me that she just always gets fish tacos whenever she can because she had some amazing ones in DC. :x I should've probably went for something else.

The fajita salad is huge. I don't know how everyone else felt about their food; I think I could've went for something better, but I wasn't thrilled with what I got.

If a place is laid back I guess that attitude hits really hard at dinner time and with large parties. Which was how I witnessed it.  My family along with close friends went here in a party of 9. The waitress was charming but she was also the bartender and our food took quite a while to come out.  How long? Two drinks time. I drink fast though so I digress.

It is close to the beach which is rad but it was winter so...meh. The margarita my mom got tasted like feet and tequila but, as I stated earlier with speed and all, I drank it anyway. My meal was a smaller surf and turf combo and our nice waitress worked it out with the cook that instead of another seafood he just gave me a larger steak. More for me which may not have been a good idea. So much steak.

I think if I lived here and the night/day was warm and I wanted to get my beer and tacos rage on and then go for a beach stroll this place would be a winner. Maybe that's what they are going for. But it's a-ok by me.

Quaint place with a great breakfast selection.  They have traditional items like bacon and eggs or items with a costal twist such as what I ordered- the Admiral omelette which had crab, shrimp and Brie in it accompanied by grits and a biscuit on the side. Really tasty!  They also have wonderful eggs Benedict varieties..my dad ordered the California and loved it.  The service is a bit slow but the servers were extremely friendly- they even gave us some extra biscuits for free which were fresh out of the oven.  Definitely recommend this place!

Service: laid back good people.  may not always be the fastest.

    all in all:  Beach bar.

Very enjoyable eating big breakfasts on the big screen porch. Laid back.  Good service. Big portions. Tasty too.

Great service, good food.  We enjoy going to Acme Cantina but lately its gross to walk into the place.  By this i mean the parking lot is littered with hundreds of cigarettes, trash and other unknown litter.  If i drove up for the first time and saw this, i would turn around and leave.  When you pass all the trash you walk up- onto a beat up and falling down deck littered again with tons of cigarettes and about 7 or 8 dead plants.  If you get in the door without being grossed out you will enjoy yourself.  I am only sending this  as i tried to find their site first to send this to the owners personally so they would clean the place up, but they dont have a website only  a facebook page.  Owners please have someone clean the parking lot and deck up periodically and you should probably paint the door in the womens bathroom.

I HAD TO AMEND MY REVIEW.   7/12.   Wow they have really  cleaned the place up.   They have changed the menu and added a huge new breakfast menu.  Since we live close we have been new regulars to Acme.   Highly recommended now.  What a great turnaround... Thank you!!!   Great food and clean now!   The only issue is sometimes the service is very slow.  I think they are just starting to get used to a full house every night.

Convenient location, one of a couple of 'quaint cafes' along IOP. Part of the place has more a 'bar' feel so all depends on what you are looking for... the sandwiches are decent, it's a solid lunch. Can't vote for dinner. It's ultra casual.

Very laid back atmosphere, food is pretty decent. Blue cheese wings are really good. Beer list is sufficient and has full bar. Wait service is somewhat slow unless you know them personally. Best part is two blocks away is the beach.

This is a 2.5 star joint in my mind...because it's in a vacation spot, it bumps it to 3. Half of the place is air conditioned, the other half is not. Main area seating, bar seating and a screened in porch with some tables too. Extensive menu that has almost everything on it. Doesn't try to be one type of restaurant. Was in an appetizer mood so went with jalapeno poppers and an order of wings. Wings were good, poppers were not...too much fried crunch for my liking. They had Highlife so that helped wash the meal down, which made me happy. Located 2 blocks off the beach, this is a decent place to try, given the options close buy.

Let me give you the quick rundown of this leetle beach resto in the heart of IOP...

-Super laid back, that includes service
-Fairly large, beach inspired menu with a bunch of tacos, quesadillas, sammies, burgers, etc.
-Not the cheapeast prices ever, but that kind of what I expected considering its proximity to da beach

That all said, I ordered the Shrimp Tacos and they were pretty good all around. This wasn't by any means the tastiest meal ever, but the ingredients seemed fresh and the pico de gallo was a nice accompaniment. My dining partners weren't thrilled with their meals, but like me, they were satisfied. Acme will do in a pinch!

Have only really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and drinks here. As for food, I've had the shrimp quesadillas and some others apps  which are all good. The four stars comes because this joint is super chill and keeps the libations coming. I'm like "yo, keep the boat drinks comin every 15 minutes sweet cakes". And they show up every 10 minutes. This joint becomes a blast later in the eve and the local flavor is rich. Come and have fun with me! :)

Gave them an opportunity to earn the 5th star.  The (Southern Fried) chicken biscuit was small and a little dry.  The side of grits was very good, spicy and laced with cheese.  Not enough to earn #5.

Stick with the shrimp and grits.

I went here for lunch recently. After reading the Yelp reviews I'm disappointed that we didn't go to Poe's instead. We tried but on a sunny Saturday afternoon the wait was far too long. We got right into Acme (in the bar area anyway) and had a decent lunch. I just had some shrimp quesadillas and beer so I can't weigh in too much on the food. Our waitress was nice though and the food was pretty good.

I've only been here for drinks.  Classic beach place with an interesting looking menu, cold beers and a full bar.  What more could you need?

God I miss this place.  One of the few places I've been where you can sit at the bar and the guy on your left is a bum and the guy on your right is a millionaire and you can't tell which is which. The food is way better than you'd expect.  You can get breakfast or fish tacos or a PBR.

In the spring and fall, the porch is just the right place to watch the sun slide down the sky and feel the breeze blow your troubles away.  I love a small restaurant and a small bar that's always crowded with the right kind of folks and food that's good enough to eat.

A sunny place for shady people.  Damn right.
