This place is excellent!! I'm always weary of large Greek restaurants because I feel they tend to be very Americanized. I was definitely proven wrong when we sta down to eat at Acropolis. We sat at the bar and were instantly welcomed by the friendly staff. We ordered some drinks and started checking out the extensive menu. We started with hummus, the true test of any Greek restaurant. When the hummus came, we were blown away by the flavor! I can't even describe how delicious it was, the seasoning was perfect and side of fresh pita bread was excellent. For the main entre, I ordered vegetarian pasta with gorgonzola sauce based on a recommendation from a former employee who was sitting next to us at the bar. The pasta was delicious, perfectly cooked and well seasoned. By the time we were done with our entree's, there was no room for desert, I would have loved to try some. After we finished our food, Doros, the owner, came by to ask about the dinner. He was one of the nicest restaurant owners I've ever met. Chatting with him really made the whole dining experience a joy! I will definitely be coming back here again to sample more of their delicious food, great atmosphere and staff. If you're looking for a great dining, this is the place to go!!

Came with our group of 6 1/2 around 2pm-3pm today and it was quite empty so we were seated quickly.  The server was nice and ensured all our drinks were refilled without us asking.  This being our first time here, we didn't realize how much food there was going to be!

I ordered the gyro platter and couldn't even finish half of it because there was a ton of food.  I guess my only discomfort with my food was that my pita bread was chopped into triangles; I like my gyros wrapped like a sandwich.  My husband got the Mousakka and that was a hearty dish; almost like a shepherd's pie with meat on the bottom and layered with mashed potatoes on top.  We were pleased with our food, looking forward to trying different dishes the next time we go back.

    Pros:
Great food if you like Greek
    Nice atmosphere for a dinner
    Very reasonably priced lunch specials

    Cons:
My work orders carryout somewhat frequently.    The food is always good, but they are constantly forgetting items we paid for.   If they double checked the order before bagging it up that might help reduce these errors.

Very good food with a nice atmosphere.  The hummus was excellent as was the Chicken gyro.

Love Acropolis!  The food is great and the service is top notch.  Greek Night is a must for anyone who wants to explore the Greek culture and sample wonderful fare.

I really miss the Acropolis!  It is a great place to eat, whether you are on a romantic date or if you are out with your friends.  It caters to just about everyone.  Inside is quite spectacular, although sometimes the service is hit and miss.

The food is really good.  I don't think there is one dish that I have ever tried that I didn't like or wasn't satisfied with.  They always bring you fresh pita bread.  One is plain, one is fried (or maybe toasted) with some kind of salty, garlic seasoning.  And they serve it with a cinnamon butter.  My mistake is usually filling up on pita, but it is so good.  Especially if you order some hummus or tzatziki.

Both of the salmon dishes are my favourites.  The salmon is always perfectly cooked, I love the asparagus and it is the perfect amount of food, enough to fill, but not enough to give you that "I'm so full I'm going to be sick" feeling.  The gyro platter was nice, but a lot of food.  I have also had the pasta with scallops, which was nice, but not my favourite.  My best friend always gets the Gyro Tortellini and swears by it.  We don't usually get dessert as we are usually stuffed by the end of our meal, but on one occasion my best friend and I opted for dessert.  They happened to have a Rose Cake that day, in fact I don't think that they have ever offered it again, but it was amazing!  It was so delicate and it had the slightest taste of Rose in it as it had some rose water in it and it was so moist and not at all too rich after a big meal.

If you haven't been, you should go!

I was so excited for Greek when I came here, I think that my expectations were too high. It was snowing pretty bad so I got my food to go-  probably mistake one on my part. I ordered dolmades and the gyro platter. Meh. I wasn't too keen on the marinara on the dolmades and the gyro was alright. (BOO! The tzatziki lid was loose and went EVERYWHERE!) It wasn't great, wasn't terrible, but it was the only Greek place I could find.

Hit the place for an early dinner so the service was prompt and very good.

The first thing I took note of was the bread basket, just pita bread and fried pita bread, but itws accompanied with what I found was cinnamon butter.  So tasty, beware its addicting and sure to give you a coronary!!!

The Dolmades were tasty enough, never really had them before so I don't have anything to compare it to.  On its own it didn't stand out that much.

For the main dish I had the gyros tortellini and this dish was excellent, the garlic sauce was delicious and went well with the gyro meat and cheese tortellini.

    I highly recommend this place.

Returned with a party of 7. 6p on a Sat, no waiting although I had made a reservation, I do not think it would have made a difference. Having Gyro Platter, Kota Lemonati, kids spaghetti, filet of beef medallions, chicken gargonzola, mixed grille, and I can't remember.
Service was sub-par. Food was fair to midland. This is not consistent with my last review.

Tried this place out last night and loved it.  Our server was super nice and they offer a large variety of items that, if they aren't already vegetarian, you can have them made that way.  The music was a little iffy unless you're into dance music while you eat, but the copious amounts of pita and dip they bring as soon as you sit down more than makes up for it.  We ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and they were sooo good-- will definitely be getting those the next time I go back.  Also ordered:  Greek salad (okay but nothing special and the dressing was kinda bland) and the vegetarian pasta (flavorful, yummy, and filling).  Next time we go back we plan to check out the spanikopita.  They also have falafels but you have to ask for them because they're not on the menu.  Oopah!
**Extra star added because it's in Evansville.

Being from Chicago, my Greek palate consists of gyros, gyro burgers, pizza puffs, and Chicago style hot dogs.  Acropolis doles out a bit more of the authentic flavor, though they do have the requisite gyros available.

The decor is nice, though the music flips between authentic Greek music and Euro-techno-pop.  The wait staff is friendly, especially if the owner happens to stop by for a chat.  Last time we were there he recommended we do their special, which is basically you naming a price, and them bringing out whatever they feel like.  I'll probably update this review with that experience soon.

As for the food, the spanakopita is tasty, as is my favorite, the Gorgonzola walnut salad with either shrimp or gyro meat.  The gyro platter is comforting, though presented a bit more formally than in Greektown.  Ah, and nothing goes with a Greek meal quite like a glass of turpentine-tasting retsina.

Disclaimer: Maybe I just liked the meal I ate here because my parents paid for it and because it involved copious amounts of wine, but I love Acropolis.  We also don't really have much in the way of Greek cuisine here in San Francisco, so my Greek palate probably isn't very refined.

Anyway, I had the spanikopita, which was delicious: nice and crispy phyllo with fresh, perfectly-spiced spinach.  It could have used a bit more feta, in my opinion, but I have an unhealthy obsession with goat milk cheeses, so maybe the cheese would be just right for most other people.  We ordered a platter of vegetarian dips, which were also delicious; they all tasted homemade, and again, the spices were perfect.  Their tzatziki was especially noteworthy, and made a nice accompaniment to the spanikopita.  They also have tasty Othello wine, which I hear is hard to come by stateside.

Acropolis has a pleasant atmosphere.  It's spacious, the servers are very nice, and it seems like a great place to take a date or a group of friends.  If I ever again find myself in Evansville's massive suburban sprawl, I'll definitely eat at Acropolis.

Never had anything good here but the baklava...they were much better before they switched locations.
