First of all the location is next to a Little Cesar??  This is very odd choice of a location.  The Patio is shared with the parking lot, which only means noisy traffic and screaming kids.  Walking in you are greeted with a server explaining their Wine of the day asking you if you would like a taste. I am usually interested in being seated first, once seated wine list, menu, specials etc. Once seated  on the patio server wasn't trained properly about this restaurant.  Sitting on the patio wasn't as pleasant as expected. Unfortunately Owner,Manager,Chef discussing menus and Employee schedules wasn't very professional.
Review Source:Went there for the Kobe burger. Â They had one person greeting at the door, serving the food and drinks, etc.......that's okay but it took about 1.15 hours to get our meal from start to finish for lunch. Â Drinks took a while to be served it was clear one person trying to do all of this was not efficient. Â When our burgers came out they were not hot because I guess they sat in the kitchen for a while due to the one person trying to handle 5 tables and keep the restaurant going. Â I ordered the burger with cheese and they forgot it on the 2 other burgers we ordered at the table and mine had just ONE SMALL square of cheese on it. Â Â You could hardly call it a cheese-burger. Â Atmosphere is nice. Â Fix this so you stay in business.
Review Source:Did I just find the best hidden gem in McAllen? No. My dad did. After trying to go to a couple of places for lunch which were disappointingly closed on a Sunday, he suggested this spot. Magically it was open and they've got a delightful lunch menu.
Rex, our server, was eager and super solicitous, telling us about the awesomeness that is a "retail" establishment with a food menu. That is to say Stella Artois is always $2.50. There were other seriously outstanding prices on other draft brews as well which Rex let us sample.
We both ordered a pasta dish from a menu that is actually international. That doesn't mean they have nachos AND hamburgers. Well, they've got a hamburger but it's made of kobe and has gruyere on it. Also they've got indian flavors, mediterranean flavors, spanish flavors and of course, italian. Which we both ordered. His penne putanesca was a perfect portion size and really robustly flavored. My angel hair with cream sauce came with four gigantic shrimp wrapped in jamon serrano. All the entrees run $7 - $14 as far as I could tell - totally reasonable for a higher end lunch.
That's not even the best part. The best part is that they have a back room that you can just use. Not rent -- use. It's their wine area and you're surrounded by beautiful wines, high top tables and a huge TV that you can either actually watch something on or stream something to. Oh yes folks, this place has wifi.
The perfect blend of a wine bar, retail shop and restaurant. We walked away with leftovers and a bottle of wine and the fantastic feeling that we'd discovered our new fave go to lunch spot. We've already made plans to take a run at their spendier dinner menu as well.
Where do I start?..
How about with the charming part of this restaurant...
Nice decor, friendly staff, and a menu that could impress....
Okay, service is great. Unfortunate that it's right next to a pizza joint that hosts parties for kids. Complimentary valet? Good feature, but if you don't carry cash for tips you'll look like a jerk when it's time to leave. It's nice that Alberico is a wine shop as well as a restaurant because that gives you some advantages such as being able to carry out a re-corked bottle of wine. We were served 2 doses of a fine Spanish wine with a description. Wine was great, but we came for the food. Still.. there was a leading to the wine room to select a bottle to join your table. Went with a Willamette Valley variety and returned to order.
Appetizer... Beef carppaccio... great starter with wedged tomato and some greens on top. Balsamic wasn't too harsh. Wife loved it, I thought it was good.
The problem was when the entrees came out. Lobster Ceviche is served with a side of tortilla chips. Did I just say side? It's basically a plate of tortilla chips with a side of lobster something. Definitely needs improvement. I got the risotto stuffed quail. This was a good dish with some local farm grown veggies. I'd eat it again, but not sure it was worth the price. I really wanted this restaurant to wow me, but instead we got a mediocre experience. Still, it's one of the few places in the valley that is trying to do something different so it's worth going. We'll for sure go back and recommend to co workers, I just hope that they make some improvements in certain areas.
