Well-Lit Dive Bar with Excellent Burgers and Fries!
This place does have a strange vibe to it and I'm not quite sure just where the 'locals' crawled out from to get here, but they're definitely here and call this place home. Â Regardless, the food and service is good. Â And though a bit of a strange vibe in a small shopping center located a little bit off the beaten path, nobody bothers you. Â They too are there to have a beer or two with some good grub.
We came here based on a raving recommendation about their tasty food and we weren't disappointed. Â We've been here a couple of times and think they have one of the best burgers in town and they have a unique twist on serving up some yummy fries. Â We'll be back...
4 stars for food and service
the weird vibe brought it down to 3
I don't get all the five star ratings for this place. Maybe we just went on a bad day... but based on our first experience, we won't be going back.
The place has a "weird" vibe to it with the mountain people type of regulars that hang out at the bar playing lotto all day between sipping their beers and stepping out to the patio to smoke. As far as the food goes, I had chicken and fish tacos and people, they are dirt cheap... but for a reason. They were bland, and tiny. The fish was fishy (my mistake for ordering fish from a place like this) and the chicken was tasteless. They looked like four tiny tortillas with some cheap melted cheese on top. Not impressed. My husband ordered a grilled chicken club type of sandwich and asked for added avocado. After taking a few bites, he realized that it wasn't even what he ordered, no chicken and NO avocado! It was a BLT! Â By this time, we just wanted to get the heck out of there so when he waitress offered to go back and have the cook remake his food, he said he would just eat it. What REALLY pissed me off was the waitress did nothing to make up for her mistake. I waited tables for years and if I made a mistake I saved the customer by either not charging for drinks (we each had a beer) or at least take half off the charge for his dish. Â Crappy tacos, two beers, a salad and a sandwich he didn't order... the biggest waste of $40 we have ever spent.
I KNOW on a Sunday afternoon on St. Patty's day, during March Madness, the "good" places like Schooners were packed. And yet, this place was dead. GO FIGURE!
Let's see how long this place lasts. I certainly won't recommend it to anyone.
