I've been to the Amber Room maybe 3 or 4 times. Some were fun, some weren't. The Amber Room looks really nice on the inside. I agree with a previous post that it seems like a good option to go to if your feeling like going to a nicer place where you can dance, etc. It's a disappointment for me because I'm not a fan of the music they play here. It's what I imagine they played at raves in 1997. Dated sounding-techno doesn't really make me want to dance. The back room I think tends to have better options with some funner to dance to 80's stuff. It seems that the good songs are mixed in with a lot of dingier 90s R & B stuff that I'm not a fan of either though. I don't want to dance to " Real Love"  by Mary J. Blige or anything by TLC. The crowd here tends to be kind of lame as well. I agree with the previous "Gotti" description. Dudes with overly gelled hair,  overly bedazzled tshirts, and over-the- top dance moves. Sometimes that can be entertaining though. Other times, you just feel lame being there along with them. The drinks I think are overpriced and small. I think the Amber Room could be better if they changed up the music sometimes, made the main room of the club darker, and had cheaper, bigger drinks. Overall, I think it's possible to have fun at the Amber Room, but it depends on the music, who you're with, and how drunk you are.

I have mixed feelings about the Amber room. I'm more of a hip hop, top 40s, R&B person so the music is just average for me. The Retro room sometimes plays 80's and 90's music and sometimes hip hop, Top 40 and R&B which I prefer. You can't predict this, however. I'd prefer if they just had the main room and a hip hop room so there was consistency.

The one constant is that people are approachable and friendly there as well as diverse in age (20's and 30's) and race (although predominantly white). The vibe is the main reason I go. Also, it's the only club to which I've been where you see guys going all out dancing on the side lines or on the floor. Quite interesting and refreshing since most clubs they just stand on the sidelines and stare at the women dancing. For these reasons I give it 4 stars because I can always count on having at least a decent time even if the music sucks.

The other oddity is that oftentimes the place is packed at 11pm but clears out by 1am even though the club hasn't closed. It makes me wonder where are these people going? Hitting another club? And at other times it seems Amber decides to close a few minutes early.

The drinks are pricey in my opinion ($4 for low end beer, $6 for a captain and coke, $8 for a grateful dead).

    Meh.

I feel like this place could be so much better but everytime I've been there the staff treats everyone like shit.  I'm not a punk, I'm older, I wear sport coats and I try to avoid hanging out w/ any wannabe Gotti's that frequent this place but I still find the staff sucking.

The bartender we had threatened me because I ordered drinks in a manner that was apparently not acceptable to him.

They're routinely letting 45 year old guys in there wearing Canadian Tuxedos w/Def Leopard patches and some really sweet Timberland boots but then they wont let my friend in wearing gray diesel sneakers and a sport coat.  Very odd.

I'm fine w/ the snobbery but they gotta be consistent w/ that too.  Either let people in that dress well and have the correct image or  just let everyone in.  It seems to depend on the bouncers mood.

That being said, the sound system is nice and rivals some of the stuff I've heard in Boston or LA.

I think if they got their service up to par, this place would be tough to beat.
