Our service experience today I would rank as one of my worst ever for anywhere I have ever been. The food was just OK once we got it.
I could go into all the gory details of our experience but why bother. let's just say it's was the worst it could get. The owner was not around this day so maybe that was why things feel apart, not sure. 1 star with out a doubt.
I am no level diez (1O) authentic Mexican food specialist, but growing up
in Los Angeles, it's nearly impossible to avoid Mexican restaurants when
they are practically on every block--sometimes 2 or 3 are in the same plaza.
With that being said, I usually chowed on some south-of-the-border meals
at least once a week. I believe to have at least a little sense as to what real
mexican food tastes like.
This place is very legit.
(A little pricey, but c'mon, you should know by now that
hawai'i is yo pimp, gotta pay up dawg!)
They have a little  self-serve salsa bar with about
3 different fresh salsas (mild to hot), spicy pickled onions carrots and chilies,
and limes.
Save some dough by checking out their daily specials &
happy hour.
I've never cared much for alcohol, but omg, they
have thee tastiest margarita! Blended with salt on the
rim is the way to go. It's like a freakin adult slurpee!!
Several of the waitresses there are very nice which is a plus.
I've only ordered their carne asada & shredded beef in
various forms from tostada to hard shell tacos to burritos.
All were muy bueno!
Me gusta Amigo's & surely you will too.
Went for a late breakfast, Huevos Rancheros and beers. Well... let's call it brunch.
Service was great, food was simple and delicious, and the beer is served in these gigantic 24 ounce frozen glasses. Oh sweet frozen glasses.
Home made tortilla chips with a variety of salsas were also delicious.
Mark L. put it best, Amigo's does offer the best Mexican food on the island. The wife and I eat at Amigo's at least once every few weeks (there are three other locations, one in Kihei, another in Lahaina, and a trailer at the Wailuku Banyan Tree) and all of them are strong. Up front, I grew up in the Bay Area so I am serious about my Mexican food, especially when it comes to carnitas and Amigo's has never disappointed. The aforementioned wife is an enormous fan of their tortilla soup and I will concur that it is pretty darn tasty (just not tasty enough to lay off their carnitas). I can honestly say I don't recall ever getting stale chips from Amigo's but that's not to say it's never happened. If you're here and craving pretty darn good Mexican food at reasonable prices this is the only game in town.
Review Source:I had only an hour and a half to meet up with my Cousin who lives on Maui for the last 29 years. We opted for his fave hangout. Boy were we in for a treat. the Carne Asada tostadas were terrific along with the beans and rice. Cold Dos Equis amber from the tap along with a really tasty salsa bar. Hot carrots, good main dish and after dinner we did two shots of Patron! Salud amigos in Maui. You cannot go wrong eating there. aloha!
Review Source:*Be mindful that this review is written with very low expectations for Mexican food on Maui. Â I am NOT comparing it to other mainland mexican food...
Â
As a Mexican food aficionado, I was not expecting any good mexican food on Maui, considering all of the wonderful Mexican joints in San Diego that I grew up with. Â But, I will say, the carnitas soft taco is good when I first experienced it at their taco cart at first Friday in Wailuku. Â So, after that, I had to check the restaurant and to my surprise, they had a California burrito. Â Although it cannot compete with Oscar's in Vista, CA, it was very good also. Â My favorite part about this place is their salsa bar, which includes four different varieties of salsa, jalapenos and even hot carrots! Â If you are looking for the best taco on Maui, I would have to recommend this place. Â
Plus they offer a 15% kamaheina discount.
Yes, I live less than ten miles from Mexico. Â And yes, I grew up in LA where I lived on Mexican food. Â However, I wasn't expecting that level of Mexican food in Maui. Â What I got was almost disgusting. Â We ordered a carne asada burrito (which was unseasoned stew beef), a chicken taco (on what seemed like Ortega's taco shells) and beans/rice. Â We didn't finish our meal. Â The only thing that gives this one star was the fact that our waitress was helpful.
Review Source:Let me say that this  review is biased. We tried to stick to local Maui style food. We ended up at Amigo's looking for pulled pork tacos. We ended up with a Mexican style pork burrito. It was ok, but I can get that at home, and so judged this meal harshly.
The chips did taste stale, and the salsas were ok. The burrito was ok, but as a visitor I would steer toward more unique places.
I premise this review with I'm not the mexican food expert, however Amigo's food is always tasty and fresh! I work in Kahului so I enjoy their happy hour specials served from 3-6 pm frequently. The nachos are the usual choice for our group of co-workers - but where you just can't go wrong with that is that ALL the nachos are on special! The drink specials are a wonderful bonus!!! Try it, you won't be disappointed...and if you do get disappointed, next time try the nachos at happy hour!!!
Review Source:My favorite Mexican food on Maui by far. We dine here all the time! My favorite meal is the steak and cheese chimichanga. My boyfriend swears by their tacos and enchiladas. It has a small dining area that sometimes gets really hot during the day (no AC.) but if you order an ice cold beer or margarita with your meal, you won't even notice.
The service is quick and friendly and they have a kamaaina discount. Not to mention their all day specials which totally rock, like Monday's $2.00 tacos.
Stopped here for lunch on a recent business trip to Maui. Like the other posters said, the chips were a little stale. The salsa bar was col though, and was tasty it made up for the chips.
I had the Carmita's enchiladas. They weren't outstanding and they weren't terrible, I would have to judge them as average which is pretty much Hawaii's Mexican food standards. The black beans were good and made the meal that much better.
The staff was really nice and friendly, they definitely go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.
Ordered a torta con pollo with rice and beans. Â Judging by the pictures the food looked promising. Â The meal took some time to come out so I snacked on the stale chips and flavorless salsa. Â When my food arrived it was so bland that I could hardly manage to eat it. Â No flavor what so ever and slow service!
Review Source:This is a good lil local Maui mexican 'hole in the wall' near the Airport. We live here & get take out from here a few times a month. Authentic flavors & always fresh, they have daily specials & serve drinks. Enchaladas & black beans & rice with a soft shell chichen or fish taco - good salsa bar too.
Review Source:Read as 2.5 stars:
We had an early lunch here a day after arriving on the island. We consulted the blue book and since this got an "ONO", we figured we would try it, plus it was close to Costco where we were headed.
Seating is outside and there are maybe 8 tables. There is a small salsa bar and a drink machine inside. Daily specials boasted great prices, but the man and I stuck with our plan. I had 2 tacos with black beans and rice and he had a wet burrito with refried beans. The carnitas in one taco was less than average and the tortillas for my tacos seemed a bit stale. My chicken taco was tasty-but still on the same stale-ish tortilla. The one plus side in my meal were the black beans. They were some of the best beans I have ever had-full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The man's wet burrito was big and wet. Full of beans and carne asada. He deemed it tasty, thought the refried beans were less than flavorful.
The guy working with us was super friendly and nice. The lunch was fine, but not ONO worthy (like Cilantro).
