The "Dark Ark" has seen brighter days. Â
Back in the day, this was a staple in Point Pleasant for a great meal, fresh fish, steamers, and good beer in a fun atmosphere. Â But in recent years, things have unfortunately changed.
The last couple of times we've eaten here we were disappointed. Â The meal starts out good, because they are one of the few places left that actually give you a salad and bread before your meal, which I think is a nice touch that I wish more restaurants still did. Â But then it goes downhill, because the main entrees leave much to be desired.
Most recently, my wife ordered grouper off their "fresh fish" daily menu and not only was it a tiny, thin sliver of fish, but the texture was very gooey and gelatinous and she had to send it back. Â Grouper is supposed to be white and flaky. Â The server, to his credit, was very apologetic and took it off our bill. Â My salmon was just ok.
Inside my baked potato there was this strange rubbery brown thing that was about the side of a quarter. Â It was solid and had a texture almost like raw potato. Â I have no idea what it was, but I didn't eat it and I didn't eat the rest of my potato after I found it.
Also, we noticed the steamers were no longer on the menu. Â It is possible we just missed them but we were unable to find them. Â This was a disappointment for us because The Ark was always one of the few places around where you could get a good bucket of steamers, and it was one of our sole reasons for going there.
This is still a decent place to stop in for a few drinks, but we won't be racing back for dinner anytime soon.
Great little old school dive bar in point with the best burgers. Â Great selection of beers on tap and bottle broken out by country of origin. Â Service is great and friendly and the port whine cheddar burger is amazing. Â I've been here twice and had that burger both times but the last time I tried the crock of onion soup which was really good as well. Â Definitely worth a stop if you in the mood for great bar food and bear down the shore.
Review Source:This is my local spot -- it's never overly crowded, and they serve Guinness on tap. Most notable is Thursday night trivia -- it's fun as hell, although the same group of people show up every week and are guaranteed to win every time. Trivia night is a total blast - if you live in the area, check it out when you can.
Review Source:Very "Off-season Point Pleasant"...all beach locals draaankin lots of beer options and eating the best burger in the world...it has a combo of ribeye, chuck and prime rib...yummmm and old bay fries!!!!!
Trivia night Thursdays is hella dope. Â We came in 4th outta 12 but the other teams had like 6-10 team members while there were only two of us.
We be smart, yo.
I've been going to The Ark since the Dawn of Time, or at least since I was sixteen and now i'm 54, so there ya go. We can walk to The Ark which makes it our Home Away From Home when we go out for dinner (no DUI's for me, please). A couple of years ago it changed owners and was totally awful. We nearly gave up. But GOOD NEWS, this summer either the owners changed again or they got wise to the fact that they sucked, and The Ark is back to it's usual standards. They have specials every day and let me tell you, the Cod Oreganata is to DIE for! Also their burgers are excellent! As far as beer, belly up to the bar and sample a few. The list is extensive and eclectic. Fun! Service is very good and friendly.
Review Source:I know, two bar and grill reviews in a row - you're probably thinking I'm a drunk and won't trust my review! Â You don't have to take my word for it - just read some of the other 3-star reviews.
Obviously, I didn't have a such a great time at the Ark even though you'd think their 130+ beer selection would make someone like me (a picky beer drinker) very happy.  Ok, who am I kidding!  I was SUPER happy to look through the beer selection! I went safe though and settled on my Summer 2012 Standard: Leinenkugel Summer Shandy.  Bartender was friendly and  accommodating (turned the Euro Cup on two of the many TV's lining the bar, but just as quickly a regular moved seats because Americans don't like soccer and he needed to sit closer to his beloved baseball). Â
This place has a ton of potential - great ambiance, lovely bar, nice and dark and perhaps a little chilly but hey, that's not always a bad thing. Â Too bad the food didn't match the beer and the atmosphere. Â Menu was typical pub fare which is usually not bad with a couple of beers and some games to watch - but it was kind of disappointing and I'd actually prefer not to relive that experience and end my review here.
if you like old, nasty, over priced food, come here. Â locals think this is spot is one of the better eateries, but they just don't know what good food is.
calamari - chewy and taste like ink
garlic and shrimp on penne - watery, and the artichoke are giant and too hard to chew.
new england clam chowder - what a sad excuse for clam chowder. Â i told the waitress straight up how bad it was
service was actually good tho. waitress was nice, even the food was horrible.
