I love the people that my friends and I become when we decide on French 75 for a night of fancy cocktails. As we enter the wooden doors and step foot onto the tile, we become a group of friends out of the roaring 20's. No really, we're pretty full of ourselves (theater types) and take it perhaps a step too far sometimes. That being said, I really do love it here. I love sitting in a corner chatting with my friends trying every (and I do mean every) drink on the menu with an old-fashioned thrown in for good measure. Chris Hannah runs the show here and if you know anything of NOLA mixology, you know this dude doesn't mess around. Every drink is skillfully made and has incredible depths of flavor. Atmosphere, drinks, fancy pants; it just makes me happy to know that I'll be drinking here. I'm not real happy when the check shows up, but it was all worth it for the experience. It can get smoky and loud in here at times, but again, as long as we're all having fun let's just live it up.

My friend and I did not want to deal with Bourbon Street and the smelly bars, so at the recommendation of  the Ritz, we headed to French 75. It was perfect! Super cool, laid back, not pretentious but "pressed". It gets a nice clientele, which is refreshing after dealing with so many drunken messes on Bourbon. A great place with great service to enjoy a low key drink and wonderful appetizers. Old school charm! Love it! I look forward to going back!!

Awesome cocktail bar.  Great (fancy) service.  It's off of Bourbon so the crowd isn't fratty at all.    Great way to get off of Bourbon and try something different.  The drinks were very reasonably priced.

    Fantastic bar and location.

Some of the most friendly people I have ever meet.

Walked into this place by accident and meet up with Chris Hannah who then proceeded to take this dumb tourist on a tour of the house and location.

Thank you Chris for a wonderful time and being my tour guide.

    Cheers. !

Fantastic bartenders that have extensive knowledge in classic cocktails. Old fashioned and a cigar? Yes!

So glad my friend wanted to try this place out. Cocktails are more than reasonably priced - I know places in New York that would charge twice for worse drinks. My friend got the louisiane and I got the Brooklyn. We split the praline crepes, which were tiny but so worth it! Ambiance is incomparable - we are pretty low key girls (and old souls apparently because we were the youngest by 20 years) and werent out to be hungover all weekend. I can't believe that Bourbon street is only a block away. Best thing about this place is the service - I never felt rushed and the staff is so knowledgeable! Hong (sorry I didn't get your first name!) gave us a tour of the place, and I loved learning about all of the history. If you're reading this, let me know if you ever make it to New York!

Declicous food, prompt service, and great location right in the mix of everything.  What's not to like?

Arnaud's French 75 is definitely my favourite cocktail bar I visited during my Weekend in New Orleans.

Having Mixologist Chris Hannah preparing his signature cocktails for us had really enhanced my experience! I was lucky to able to sit at the bar and watch our drinks prepared!

All the drinks we ordered were all well made and well balanced! And at around $10 per drink, they are just awesome! All the cocktails are made with  fresh ingredients, home-made syrups, drams, and liqueurs.

I highly recommend Arnaud's French 75 if you are into cocktails! I sure will be back again next time when I am in town!

Chill and cozy spot just off of Bourbon.  Great old French decor, friendly/knowledgeable staff, and delicious cocktails and bar snacks.  I'm not a fan of cigar smoke, so I was nervous to come in.  However, only a couple of people were actually smoking and it wasn't a problem--must have solid smoke eaters in the ceilings!

This is a great old school speakeasy style place with great cocktails. They have many of the prohibition era cocktails that are making a comeback. We had Moscow Mules, Pimm's Cups, Sazeracs, you name it! A great time was had by all. We took up two tables and our waiter was very accommodating, despite our crazy group.

Only had drinks here and they specialize in a gin based menu which is not my favorite. Neat atmosphere in the bar and you can smoke which not many did but the option was nice. I wish I could have tried some food.

Don't miss the soufflé potatoes as a great snack while enjoying Chris' French 75 made with cognac!  Great, cigar friendly, intimate lounge with extra class!

Cozy spot off Bourbon Street. We met the bridal party here for cocktails after their rehearsal dinner.

This is a cute little spot, but not  a lot of seating. Service was friendly and the cocktails expertly mixed. I had the lillet cobbler, which was a great adult beverage. Sweet, but not too sweet.

Ended up at Arnauds after not being impressed at Carousel Bar. It's def a tiny place but felt cozy and inviting....and fancy. We sat at the bar, the bartenders were very attentive and friendly getting us set up. We informed them that we had no idea what we were doing as we didn't know what any of the drinks were, or for that matter what the ingredients in said drinks were. Hannibal (yes that was his name) gave us a quick run down and asked what we normally like to drink. He offered the most expensive drink first which would have normally irritated me, but the French 75 is a champagne drink, and I LOVE champagne drinks so I went for it. My friend, although vegan opted to go with his suggestion for the Pisco Derby (contains honey). Both of drinks were made quickly and they were wonderful. I'm not a drink expert by any means but these tasted good, and fancy! We decided to move on rather than order another drink as they were closing soon. We asked the other bartender Hadi if he could give us a few suggestions of cool places to move on to, he gave us a few suggestions--Bellocq, SoBou, and Perestroika at Pravda. We ended up at Perestroika---that review is coming!
Overall a wonderful experience I would absolutely come back here, they make you feel like the most important people in the world, and it didn't feel pretentious at all.

Tracy and I went here because we were so over Bourbon St. It's a high end, fancy shmancy cocktail bar but still very accessible as the drinks were relatively reasonably priced.  It's small but the lighting and lamps (you'll see...) are great.  We took a look at the menu, starting Googling some of the alcohol used in their drinks and eventually gave up lol. Hannibal and Hadi were very helpful. We had no idea what these fancy liquors were but we ended up with delicious drinks!   I got the Pisco Derby and she got the French 75. We were both really happy and would have stayed longer but they closed early (it was Sunday) so we moved on but I'd really recommend it and would go back.
It can get a little loud and smoky so be warned of that, but otherwise, great, great time.

A great place to duck away from the chaos of Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras. French 75 has an incredible bar atmosphere and the namesake drink a must-try.

Stopped in here for a French 75 to start our recent Saturday night on the town. Loved the coziness of this sophisticated cocktail bar. Most drinks are reasonably priced around $10 (altho I think my French 75 was about $13-14) and expertly mixed, of course. Chris Hannah and his cronies are all class. Oh, also had tasty little boudin wontons ($5.75) w/ pepper jelly mustard.

Overall, a great place for a drink or two to start your night on a high note.

If you love a cool cocktail bar, you really must check this place out. The interior is beautiful, the classic cocktails are, well, classic, and the service and snacks are top notch. One of the best places for drinks in the French Quarter. A bit pricey, hence the four stars, but still, recommended.

Ask for the full menu at the bar! You will have an awesome night watching people walk to and from Bourbon street and the environment in the bar is much more relaxed than in the restaurant. We heard that this was the place to go for ANY traditional New Orleans drink, so we tried them all. The bartender was great and the dinner was perfectly done! Definitely come here when you're in town! The bar was a much more welcoming and comfortable place to sit than the dining area (we're less into the white tablecloth, napkins and personal waiter service than other people).

This is a really cool, upscale bar in the quarter. With it's cozy atmosphere and waiters in full attire you are made to feel special as soon as you walk in. I sat on a sofa and perused the list of fancy cocktails. Since I am not a big liquor drinker, I decided on a simple glass of red wine. It was, of course, delicious.

This is also a cigar bar, and although I don't smoke, they seemed to have a wide selection of stogies to choose from.

We would have stayed for a drink but the overall stinch inside this place was toooooooooo much to stick around.  However it was pleasing to the eyes to enjoy some old school NOLA.  The richness you could feel when you walked in...like the walls wanted to tell you a story.

Arnaud's really is an institution.  I simply knew I had to visit during a most recent trip to New Orleans.  My cocktail was so lovingly crafted that I begin to glow just thinking about it.  I adored the charming ambiance of this lounge, that was so completely New Orleans it couldn't be anywhere else.  My husband and I were transported as we shared a settee sipping cocktails. Oh-la-la! So romantic.

    Chris Hannah .... you rock!!!!
Came for the French 75 but fell in love with your Dark and Stormy!!!!
Came to NOLA for a conference and wound up starting all of our nights at this bar, we didn't think Chris liked the chatty city girls too much but I think we scored cool NOLA points for going to Vaughn's and the Hi Ho Lounge (on his recommendation) AND after he sent us up to the upstairs museum with the vampire, he got a chuckle out of that!!! No lie ... we swore she was a vampire - she even had horns in her head!!!!  Long story short - go to the French 75 have a drink or two or five!!! Have the Dark and Stormy for me and I will love you forever!

I end up here with a group several times a year prior to a long, fun lunch in Arnaud's and I also get here on my own as much as possible.  This is a fantastic old school NOLA bar and the only thing I dislike about it is that it can get very smokey sometimes.  As an old school bar there ends up being a lot of cigar and cigarette smoke here at times and I could seriously do without that.  Other than the smoke the ambiance is fantastic and they sling some awesome cocktails here.  This is definitely one of the best bars to enjoy yourself in the French Quarter and all of New Orleans.

Hands down best libation experience I had while visiting New Orleans. Sazerac was great. My lady had the French 75 (Courvoisier VS and Moet & Chandon). Also had a Cigar. Nearby table had the bananas foster done. Looked delicious. I may get the Café Brûlot when I return.

Great service. Really laid back. Had a great time. Will return when I come back to New Orleans!

Came here for a late evening cocktail.
The interior is awesome, you feel as if you are in a different world.
    * It is a cigar bar, although the ventilation is great, if 90% of the patrons are smoking, it will get very smoky. The staff is dressed in tux & ties. The bitters/accompaniments all look home made.

The Mrs. ordered a fruity type cocktail served with crushed ice (i can't remember the name) but the bartender (Chris Hannah) is very knowledgeable and friendly. I ordered a Sazerac, the preparation of this drink is what makes it special. They coat the glass with a liquer before making the cocktail, by tossing the glass vertically while spinning it.

Great service, would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique NOLA experience.

I had the pleasure of getting to visit this historic location during the 2012 Tale's of the Cocktail gathering.  To give a brief history- The restaurant was opened by Count Arnaud Cazenave in an 1833 mansion.  The bar was originally a 'gentlemen only' club and a safe haven for political figures.  The bar and back bar are truly vintage, dating to the late 1800s.  How the name came to be though, well, is kind of ironic if you are one of the countless people that make fun of the French army.  To be fair, it was strong back then, but anyway, the bar and their namesake is derived from the French 75 Field Rifle.

We came here to pay homage to the cocktail, learn its roots, and experience its birthplace for what it is today.  Connected to the restaurant, but separated by look through doors, the bar was very tight and seating was invariably limited during the prime time of drinking hours.  Bartenders and bar backs manned the bar, churning out and endless variety of drinks.  A bar manager moved around rapidly in his black, penguin tail tuxedo, complete with bowtie and slicked back hair.

On the wall was a large cabinet of cigars to choose for the perfect compliment to your cocktail.  Many, many people had taken advantage of this is the small, cramped space, and three-quarters of the way through our cocktail, I found myself a bit sickly from the profuse clouds of smoke beginning to fill the room.  Thankfully we were quickly on our way out, but nonetheless, the experience and to get to see such a gorgeous bar was very worth it.

Now I can completely relate to Owen Wilson's character in Midnight in Paris. Walking into an age of prohibition and art decor decor with snappy dressed waiters now offering me the cigar menu to pair with my drink.
Whether you are the drinking buff or perhaps just coming for the Orleans nightcap you must surely pay your passage way into here.
I can see a modern Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald hunkering over in the corner next to the monkey lampshades drinking it up with the cigar bar in full use.
The place is ideal for bringing the tres-romantic out oneself and you'll see plenty of couples, but don't be dismayed as there are plenty of dapper don draper's sitting in random corners of the room having their brandy and cigars only to add to the atmosphere.
Now go drown out your last night in some Oysters Rockefeller.

In the *spirit* of Tales of the Cocktail, the time has come for me to at long last review Arnaud's French 75 after several visits.

It won't come as any surprise to any of you that I'm going to mention that this place is really just perfect as they come. Let's review what I love most about a cocktail bar:

    -swanky surroundings (check)
    -expertly mixed cocktails (check)
    -expertly mixed *classics* (check)

add on incredibly affordable prices for those expertly mixed cocktails and swanky surroundings and you've got the 5th star.

Chris Hannah and his compadres behind the bar are a class act. You already knew that. It stands repeating.

The whole operation conjures up the sophistication of the King Cole Room in the St. Regis sans the snooty NY East Side 'tude. Well, this is New Orleans and there is no place for that! Come as you are and thrill in the vibe... it's a friendly place, too.

"Work is the curse of the drinking class" ~ Oscar Wilde

This is a bar with a setting of the 20s. Ask for Chris Hannah and he'll whip you up some of the best of the best cocktails New Orleans has to offer. Bartenders here attend bar conferences across the globe and will show you where the next bar conference will be at. He whipped me up a Pimm's Cup that is an alternate to my fave mojito drink. Drinks are about ~$10. Not bad! Go upstairs and you'll see a museum of the Mardi Gras Queen in her lavish outfits. This is a pit stop if you'd like to also have a cigar at the bar.

Arnaud's French 75 is great. In fact, it may be my new favorite fancy pants establishment.

The atmosphere of this bar is fancy, inviting and reminds me of a different era. An era where fancy people dressed up, drank cocktails, and smoked the occasional cigar. Even though it is close to Bourbon Street, you feel a world away.

The cocktails were excellent and bartender Chris Hannah was behind the bar. After reading all the reviews that mentioned him, I was a bit starstruck. Turns out he not only makes a great drink, but he is a nice, humble guy (more on that later).

I picked a spot in the corner by the cigar case. As others have mentioned, this is the best spot in the bar. You can see the entire bar, yet it feels as if you are a bit secluded. This would be the best spot to sit if you bring a date, or if you want to chat with friends.

I tried several old fashioneds, a sidecar and even opted for a cigar (see profile picture). I don't normally smoke cigars, or drink cocktails, but here, it just seemed right.

I liked this bar so much, that I didn't leave until they closed. As they were closing the bartenders broke out the moonshine. I didn't particularly care for moonshine, but I got to discuss New Orleans, our burgeoning cocktail scene and the bartenders life stories. Chris Hannah was very humble. Even though he is well known, he gave a lot of credit to the other bartenders who work in the bar. It was very cool. The other bartender was equally cool, but he didn't have a name tag so I can't remember his name.

I really liked this bar. I highly recommend it, and can't wait to go back.

Although this is an establishment that has been in the French Quarter for quite some time, it is no mistake that it still makes Eater's Cocktail Heat Map.  My friend and I decided to work through some of New Orleans' classic cocktails (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdrinks.seriouseats.com%2F2011%2F03%2Fclassic-new-orleans-cocktails-for-mardi-gras-ramos-fizz-vieux-carre-french-75-sazerac-hurricane.html&s=ecc6f313338c024aed48f04ae4d076f78fb6d0ca20f984c712f2c959ada59576" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://drinks.seriouseat…</a>) and left with so much more.

There were a couple bougie people who left after learning Chris Hannah wasn't there that night.  It was a dumb move on their part, but it gave us the opportunity to hog Hadi and Kristina to ourselves so we could enjoy well-made drinks and mine them for info on where the cool kids hang out.

It was a great place to kick off what ended up being a fantastically drunken evening, and I'd definitely go back.

Coming off my third visit here, I can't say enough good things about Arnaud's French 75. The ambiance is both inviting and romantic with the decor harkening from 1920's motifs and designs. Since there are only a few tables open at any time, I have never seen the bar "packed" only full. My favorite seat being in the back corner near the cigar case, so you can get an entire view of the space and people. All these aspects make it ideal for unwinding and enjoying the company of friends. Also, with the relaxed atmosphere it is easy to strike up a conversation with neighbors, and learn new things about the city.

My routine for the French 75 always seems to include an Old Fashioned and cigar after a dinner in the Quarter. Although, during my last visit I branched out and explored the cocktail menu, which were all well made and enjoyable. The bartenders all know their craft, and wait on you attentively. As always I'm looking forward to my next date at Arnaud's French 75.

An absolute gem in the French Quarter.  Arriving late evening, under light rain, the moment I peered through the beveled windows of their wood French doors, I felt a palpable excitement, a feeling like I just saw another, more vivid world entirely.

And indeed, strolling into this handsome and elegant place is like entering another era, lit in mellow gold, with a gorgeous armoire-like wood bar, and small tables with big, leather seats.  It nails the old-fashioned look and ambience perfectly.  Its a cigar bar, which seems quite fitting, but decide how you feel about that before staying.  It is adjacent to its parent, the French restaurant Arnaud's, and offers a small food menu we didn't partake in.

We happily took seats at the bar and started off with some New Orleans cocktails to continue our exploration of the local libations.  I had the Ramos gin fizz, a deceptively light but delicious cocktail; my companion had the Vieux Carre, well-made.  Although we would find subtly more complex and interesting versions the very next night at Cure, these were still very well-made drinks.  Their menu is succinct, but based on the quality of the drinks we've had, the bartender can probably make you a drink you didn't know you wanted.  On round 2, we ordered off the menu; I found I enjoyed The Contessa the more I drank it; my companion was last still working out his opinion about his Winter Waltz, which was distinguished by the inclusion of allspice dram.  Extremely reasonably priced cocktails, most under $10.

Notably, I discovered after we went that we were luckily in the hands of Chris Hannah, a very highly regarded bartender in NOLA.  I'd love to go there again when he's working the bar.

As we departed this gorgeous bar, my companion noted with irony that they deserve a better sign outside than the flashy neon-lit one afforded them, probably a concession to the neighborhood, but a place like this doesn't need it.  Well worth a visit if you enjoy good cocktails, and unbelievable that it exists here.

One of the coolest places I've ever visited.  French 75 is a gorgeous, classic bar with some of the greatest bartenders.  We tried several drinks off the menu and then just started chatting with Chris Hannah about our preferences of drinks.  He was able to make us something perfect with every round, based on our tastes.  His The Last Word was simply perfection - I've ordered it from other places since and it just doesn't come close!

We also had the jalepeno and brie stuffed shrimp - delicious (but a little messy for such a classy place!)

Chris is a great bartender, but he won't admit it. Instead, he kept offering us suggestions of other things we might do while we were in town.  His suggestions were spot-on and we enjoyed all of them, and we found it really cool of him to take time out to do that.

I know people complain about the cigar smoke, and I get it, I'm not a smoker either.  But I didn't find it to be too heavy or bothersome, so don't let that steer you away.

I finally got myself to this gorgeous spot after meaning to for a very long time.  Chris Hannah was indeed at the bar and he was personable and welcoming. I instantly felt badly that I was dressed like a gypsy and wearing flip flops, the place just screams evening gown and pearls, not that I own either one of those things but whatever. The point is that they still made me feel comfortable.

I had a French 75, of course, and then I tried the Pisco Daisy, another one of their specialty cocktails. Truthfully, I didn't find either one of the drinks transcendent but I was just so enamored with the whole vibe of the place that it didn't matter. I would absolutely come back, great place for a aperitif before a fancy dinner.

Admittedly, I have several hundred more pet peeves than the average person; most deali with my beloved New Orleans...Todays bellyache is caused by the term "mixologist" and modern sleek bars. I'm sure there is a place for that kind of silly aloofness, and but it certainly ain't in the classic environs of this city.  An old friend who makes one of my favorite drinks better than anyone around lost me as a customer for life when I just couldn't take hearing about the burgeoning mixologist scene here. Now some places use the term Bar Chef...Ugh...Keep that crap in San Francisco, New Orleans is a city where a drink should be served the old fashioned way...by a bartender. And French 75 has bartenders.

This is what an upscale bar in New Orleans should be. The other reviews describe it well, but don't even mention it has a hat rack. Damn straight it has a hat rack....I take my hat off in some nice places and I have to keep it on my  lap? A bar with a hat rack with bartenders wearing bow ties who make some of the best cocktails in town in an old style elegant surroundings? You just can't go wrong. I start with a Ramos gin fizz and let the bartenders take it from there.  You can trust them, they know more than you do (or at least,  certainly more than I).

Every time I end up in the Quarter in one of my finest thrift store suits I make sure to  enjoy some drinks here, as it's an utter waste of 1940's style clothes if you don't wear them at this place (No need to over dress, but I wouldn't come in here casual...it just wouldn't feel right)

Small, intimate and sexy as hell...bring the one you are trying to woo; you can't go wrong.

I just got back from New Orleans a few days ago, and out of the many bars I went to, this one stands out the most. The bartender, as A.Z. wrote, is the epitome of a bartender. He made a drink for me that I wish would migrate to CA: Pim's Cup. I had this New Orleans drink in other bars, but his was absolutely the best. Oh yeah, and there weren't palmetto bugs (the south's kind term for giant flying cockroaches) in this bar. Always a plus.

The best part about the the bar is the atmosphere. It's just down the block from Bourbon Street (which you should probably avoid), so you'd think it would be as obnoxious as the bars on Bourbon. It's not. It's the definition of class and it is like stepping back in time. No Mardi Gras beads or Hurricane Hand bombs in sight, hallelujah! Edith Piaf for music and comfy chairs for sitting. I'm a fan.
