Butler's Restaurant and Bar

Butler's.  That juke joint by the levee.  The last stop on the Marigny back to Uptown circuit.  By the time we got here it was game.over.   No, I don't remember any details but cheap booze in plastic cups, Pizza Hut style Atari and that End Times bathroom.  I vaguely recall getting home.

Now THAT was a dive bar.  People talk about dive bars in DC...but they're not even close.

Oh my beloved Butler's!! Was introduced to this dark, small, dingy place and fell in love my first night. From the secluded location to the atari to the rockingEST DJ EVER who always somehow knew right when I was about to walk through the door because he'd play my fave "Back to Life" as I ducked through the car-washesq plastic flaps. Oh how I loved the way the peeps here would all share the love regarding a drink, a dance, a smoke or whaeves..Oh how I miss this place and all the crazy it breathed. Had to throw in another plug for the long-gone Butler's. A place my friends and I somehow stumbled upon, and knew for some time only as "the Atari bar." Butlers was one of the darkest bars I've ever been to - the only light was the black-and-white TV hooked up to an Atari in the back. For years I had a bar napkin from Butlers - the slogan was "Dive to New Depths."
