If you have friends in town, this is the perfect place to bring them for a po boy. The restaurant looks the same as it did 30+ years ago, they serve soft drinks in small glass bottles, etc.. You feel like a local when you're there. The service is laid back, but it's not detrimental to their business by any means. The po-boys are huge! My favorite is 1/2 and 1/2- fried shrimp and fried oysters. If you don't feel like eating two huge halves to yourself, try splitting a large with your friend! Cheaper and less food yet very filling.
Review Source:This was the last place I ate in New Orleans. Â It was also one of the best. Â I walked in and there was nobody there (11:15am) so I placed my order with the cook. Â I ordered a large shrimp po boy dressed with no mayo($14.50). Â I ordered a Coke($1.50 for only an 8 ounce bottle) at the bar and then took a seat. Â A few minutes later, my sandwich was ready. Â Here is how it was.........
Shrimp Po Boy- Â This thing was fresh as can be. Â It was so fresh that you could see the steam/smoke coming out of the bread because the shrimp were just taken out of the fryer seconds before. Â I got mine dressed so it came with lettuce, pickles and a hot sauce/ketchup combo which was great. Â This sandwich was large too. Â It was cut into 3 pieces and put on a paper plate. Â The shrimp here are not deveined which is a little bit meh IMO but they tasted great! Â The breading on the shrimp was perfect. Â The bread was a tad better than all the other places I had gone to also. Â (I know its all the same bread at most places but for whatever reason today it was more soft than previous places and held together better when I bit through it). Â
Service was no nonsense. Â You order, grab your stuff, pay and then eat and leave. Â It was right up there with Parkway as being the best po boy I had in New Orleans. Â I would definitely go back if I lived in town.
I've only been once, but my experience was excellent. Â Being from Los Angeles, I was SO looking forward to a New Orleans Po-boy! Â And Domilise's did not disappoint! Â I went with my cousins and we shared a 1/2 and 1/2 (half fried shrimp po-boy and half fried oyster po-boy) and then we also got a fried catfish po-boy. Â They also got a cheeseburger po-boy with chili sauce, which I did not try, but it looked awesome. Â Dude, this stuff was ridiculously good. Â To be honest, I don't have a lot to compare it to, so maybe the locals know better. Â But my cousins are born and raised New Orleans folk and they vouch for this place, too. Â I loved every bite and washed it down with a cold beer. Â It is super casual, can be a bit of a wait for a table, but worth it. Come in, take a number, when your number is called, place your order. Â When you get your order, you pay. Â Toss some hot sauce on your Po-boy and enjoy!
