Rocco's Tavern

Meh.  This used to be a cute little low key hang out, but during the school year it's a full blown college bar packed with college kids (of course).  They do have drink specials, but the drinks shrink with the specials.  For $2.50 you will get a little more than a thimble full of beer.  I really wish I had taken a picture.  It's a joke.  There are way better places on Maple St.  Go there.

I've been going to this spot for years, back when it was the original Bruno's, and  I frequented this location often for rugby parties (I fully deny all reports that I did naked zulu warrior runs around the block even if those reports MAY be true).  This is a classic old neighborhood bar that switches to more of a college bar the later it gets.  I've still got some friends on pool teams that like to hang out here and play (Tulane holds an NCAA championship in billiards from years ago and the fellow that won that for them still shows up to play here sometimes).  They often have some good drink specials and it this bar has an ambiance that has been in the works since the 1930's that the new Bruno's just can't reproduce.

When a friend suggested this place, I didn't realize it was the old Bruno's.

When we arrived, we were carded at the door. This was a nice touch seeing that we were, by far, the oldest people in a three block vicinity. The crowd milling about was definitely of the younger variety.

As we went in the bar seemed dead. We ordered drinks and quickly realized why. As our drinks were delivered we were told it was last call. Good thing the drinks came in a plastic cup.

I guess the experience was OK considering I wasn't inside very long. The staff was friendly and the beer was cold. I probably need to make a return trip to make a better determination as to my like/dislike of this place. When I do, I will update this review.
