This is the hippest place in OTA, for certain. Excellent beer selection, attentive and friendly staff, great ambience. I am not into their food menu as I prefer a healthier selection and it is more decadent hipster hedonistic type food, but highly recommend this place regardless if you are in the neighborhood. You cannot beat their patio and local craft beer selection.
Review Source:This place is a definite gem. Wanted to do something different for dinner (my boyfriend and I have been going to every highly rated place on Yelp we can find) and this hit the spot. The best advice I could give you is... TRY THEIR FOOD! You can't beat their prices for such great food.
Get ready for a long review... to summarize... Everything was amazing. Just go there and try it. We went on a perfect night.. it was a cool 70 degrees so we decided to sit outside at one of their high-top tables. I really enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere. It was a trendier bar but without the pretentiousness, which I really appreciated. Not to mention, the service was great, our waitress was extremely friendly. This is the perfect place to relax and hang out, drinking some amazing cocktails.
I got a free cocktail with check in on Yelp. They had a great selection of cocktails, but I usually don't order cocktails so I asked the waitress for her suggestion. She said the French 75 was popular  so I ordered it. Let me start off by saying I do not like sweet drinks. This was perfect for me. Not too sweet, and very refreshing. I can definitely see why this is one of the most popular drinks here. I'll be back to try their other cocktails. They use fresh squeezed juices and take great care in making their drinks perfect.
For dinner we ordered the mac and cheese with green chili and the chicken schnitzel. Both were amazing. The mac and cheese was creamy and had little chunks of cheese that really added to the dish. It was truly great homemade mac and cheese. The noodles were cellentani (curly noodles) instead of macaroni but they were perfect for absorbing more sauce. Both the green chili and mac and cheese could stand alone because they were so good. My best advice would be to ask for the green chili on the side so you can enjoy them separately or together. I often found myself digging to the bottom so I could get bites without the green chili sauce. On the side of the mac and cheese there was also a spiced apple slice. Not gonna lie, I had no idea what it was at first, but it was really tasty.
The chicken schnitzel... omg. Delicious. The fried crust was perfectly crispy, and the gravy that came with was, for lack of a better word, delicious. The potatoes on the side had the perfect crispy crust. I love that they were so simple... Â with only sea salt on top. Perfect. I literally had to force my boyfriend to take it from me so I wouldn't eat it all. However, that led to me getting the mac and cheese in front of me, which was also a bad idea...
In the end, I was in shock when our bill was only $33 for drinks and dinner. Not bad at all for such amazing quality. I was really impressed by the food here, and will definitely be making multiple trips back to give other items on the menu a try. They have apple strudel for dessert.. I'll make sure to save room to try that next time.
This was a place we tried purely because of how many positive reviews it has on Yelp, and we were not disappointed. It has a great atmosphere, the music's awesome, and the food is great. Definitely get the pretzel! It's amazing! My husband and I were unsure as to what we were getting, but we were so, so happy we followed the advice and tips of others and gave it a shot. Delicious!
The owner, Mike, introduced himself to us and talked with us for awhile. We were very impressed to see him bussing tables, talking with customers, and helping out behind the bar. We've been here a few times, and have had a great experience each time. Will definitely be recommending to all of my friends!
Mmmm I love this place! It's a bit out of the way from where I live but I'm making sure my boyfriend takes me here on our next date night. They know their drinks, the food is delicious and the staff are all ready and willing to help. The owners will also walk around and chat up the customers any time :) The French 75 is my favorite.
Review Source:What a pleasant surprise the tavern was. On the outside the building is very unassuming and one might think it's a dive bar but the inside is gorgeous, the vibe is to die for, the renovations are superb. The staff is all wonderful, the owners are there serving at the bar, and the food and drinks are delicious. I had the pierogi and a sour beer, delicious.
Will definitely return, even though I don't live in the neighborhood.
Can't wait for the rest of the renovations to be complete (upstairs)!
My gorgeous niece was in town over the weekend so I brought her to the Arvada Tavern for dinner last night. Â It was an unseasonably warm afternoon and I noticed they only had two tables outside to enjoy al fresco dining and both were occupied, so we went inside and seated ourselves at the long communal table right next to the window so we could at least pretend we were outside. Â I like the variety of seating options inside. Â You can choose a cozy booth, or a high top bar table, or sit at the bar, or the long wooden communal table.
The friendly waitress came right over with food and drink menus and a bottle of water. Â She was very familiar with the menu items and was able to answer our questions about how the food was prepared. Â In spite of the fabulous-looking drinks list, it was a school night so I just stuck with a nice cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Â For dinner I ordered the chicken schnitzel. Â Hot, crisp and lightly breaded with a nice pan sauce with capers. Â It was served with the most delicious, crispy roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus. Â YUM! Â My niece loved the grilled pork tenderloin.
I can't wait to come back with the hubby and some friends on a NON-school night, if you know what I mean...
This is one of those times I could just give Yelp a big fat kiss on its asterisks. I can't tell you how many times I've driven by this awesome restaurant disguised as a seedy dive bar. Had it not been for all of the 4 and 5 star reviews on yelp, I would have continued to drive by.
The cocktails list was vast and impressive. All of the classics and a few originals. I had a Negroni and a Vieux Carre. Both were impeccably made.
The food also exceeded expectations. Pierogi and pork loin were our favorites.
Our waitress was the best as well! So vivacious, attentive and easy on the eyes.
If you like places like Williams & Graham, Green Russell or Euclid Hall, you have to check out The Arvada Tavern
Super friendly staff, awesome atmosphere, and great food make the Tavern the place to hang out. After finding the tavern on a snowy evening over the winter, my buddies and I deemed this our new home. The drinks are great, quality liquor and amazing flavors. The food is so far from crappy bar food...and very reasonably priced. I have been working my way through the menu and have not been disappointed yet. The servers are attentive, but not obnoxious (you know the kind) and are super friendly. The music isn't blaring loud where you can't talk, and the ambiance make it easy to spend some time, have a few beers and a great conversation.
the Tavern does a remarkable job of regaining the "neighborhood tavern" feel without the canned, fake atmosphere that the chains do. If you were to recreate Cheers in Arvada, you'd have the Tavern. Why go anywhere else with friends?
I'm hovering between 4 and 5 stars on this one. Â I might've had too many cocktails on the visit so I might be biased. Â We were anxious to try it out since they'd remodeled/reopened several months ago.
The cocktail list is delicious and made with high quality liquors. Â I appreciated that the gin cocktails I had were automatically made with Leopold's gin. Â Our cocktails were delicious and well balanced. Â They were a bit pricey - but pretty much in line with any other cocktail joint in the Denver area.
We ordered the chicken schnitzel and macaroni and cheese (with green chile!) for dinner. Â The schnitzel was cooked just right, not too dry, and the breading was excellently crispy. Â It was served with what seemed to be a very savory pan sauce and asparagus. Â The macaroni and cheese was also delicious, however I think it would've been better without the green chile mixed in. Â That just made it a bit more runny. Â I'd recommend asking the waitstaff if you can get the macaroni and cheese with the chicken schnitzel on top. Â Now that would be an excellent combination!
I appreciate that Arvada Tavern caters to all walks of life while at the same time offering well prepared food!
If you are keeping score, you know that I really liked Red Jacks Saloon (the former tenant) because, although divey, it was much preferable to the classless and tasteless dive (12 Volt Tavern) at the end of the street. Â So, even though I was sad to see Red Jacks go, I am more excited that The Arvada Tavern replaced it with an excellent restaurant and a top rate bar. Â
This review is overdue since I have drank and.or dined on many occasions since its recent opening. Â One of the things that I love about this place is the dynamic menu. Â In fact, I cannot wait for the next change because I have eaten almost all of the items on the current menu, all of which have been excellent. Â
To date, the menu items seem to be modern comfort classics. Â You know the selection is awesome when you must flip a coin to choose your dinner entree. Â Every time I ate there, I had to flip a coin and have never been disappointed. Â The portions are large and filling and the prices are reasonable. Â It is great to have such a top notch establishment in the suburbs.
The Food:
You will get me every time there is a pretzel on the menu, and you got me that night with the cheddar jalapeno pretzel. Â The cheese sauce was excellent and not overpoweringly herby like at my other places. Â On my first visit, my coin landed on the Salisbury Steak, and it did not disappoint. Â It was tender with a nice demi-sauce. Â On my next visit, Â the coin landed on the brats and kraut with garlic potatoes. Â The horseradish mustard added just the right zip to tie it together. Â I was also lucky enough to split the lemon and caper chicken schnitzel, and I was impressed -- crispy and not dry. Â
The Drinks:
The signature drinks are all comprised of high quality spirits and are priced at an average of $9 per drink. Â I sampled a few of the signature drinks and loved them. Â However, I do not $9 love them. Â If you are the type of person who will have at most two cocktails, you will love the signature drinks. Â If you are the type of person to have more than two cocktails, you are in luck too, because their well is on the higher end (Jim Beam Bourbon) and well cocktails are in the $5 range. Â Most beers are in the $4-$6 range and wines are $8.
If you live in or near Arvada, add The Arvada Tavern to your list. Â If you live further, then add Olde Towne Arvada to your list. Â Plan a day/evening of hopping through great new eateries, but save room for dinner and drinks at The Arvada Tavern..
We've been into the Arvada Tavern a couple of times now. Â Once for drinks a few months back and twice for dinner in the past month. Â The cocktail list has a lot of great old school options - most of them are a little pricy, but I suppose that's to be expected for quality booze. Â They have a small wine list as well, and I believe all of the wines are $8 a glass.
We've tried a couple of different entrees and appetizers and all were pretty tasty. Â The jalapeno and cheese Bavarian pretzel was awesome - not quite a traditional pretzel, but puffy and light and delicious. Â And the cheese sauce on the side for dipping was awesome as well. Â We've also tried the pork buns - I made the mistake of ordering the pork buns for my dinner the first time we ate here. Â It's a little confusing since they are pulled pork sliders topped with green chili - they were also tasty, but not quite what I thought I was ordering. Â I agree that they should consider calling these "sliders" rather than pork buns. Â We've also tried the salisbury steak entree, the bratwurst and the chicken schnitzel entrees. Â All were delicious. Â I absolutely love the crispy potatoes that accompany their entrees and the grilled tomato that comes with some is good as well.
Although some of the drinks can be pricy, we've figured out that if you order a plain old vodka soda or a manhattan made with their house bourbon, that the drinks are actually pretty reasonably priced at around $5. Â We've also had pretty decent service here - the last time we were in, our server was the only one on the floor and it was pretty busy. Â I had to wait quite awhile for my second glass of wine, so she discounted it. Â We certainly hadn't complained, and while I did notice it was slow, I've had much much slower service. Definitely a plus! Â This is definitely a nice addition to Old Towne and we'll keep it on our regular restaurant rotation.
All other business owners in the area take note: THIS is how you do it. Â They should write a book. The food, the cocktail offering, the atmosphere, the service... Best OTA business, period. Mac n Cheese is as good if not better than Dazzle (try it doused with their green chili), best wings, and if you think you've had good dry-rub short ribs... have these. Â The only thing that could be an improvement is a wider beer offering, but what they have is decent enough. Not a cheap date, but not over-priced by any stretch, you get more than what you pay for here.
Review Source:We finally made it into the Arvada Tavern for dinner on a recent chilly evening. Â My girlfriend had been there a few times when it was a prototypical dive bar and she was eager to see what they had done with the place. Â Well in my humble opinion I'd say they did it up quite nicely, creating a welcoming environment for eating and drinking. Â
They offer a good sized list of cocktails, many of  the old school variety.  And the beer is all from Colorado, including some interesting ones you don't often see in a bar - like Dad and Dude's Dank IPA out of Littleton. Â
As for the food, I'd say it is American & German comfort food. Â We tried one of their Bavarian pretzels and it was a great start, served warm with a mustard dipping sauce. Â I had the mac & cheese with the green chili added. Â It was freaking awesome! Â Just the right amount of cheesy goodness, perfect for a cold winter night. Â The one thing that seemed to be missing was some kind of bread to dip and/or scoop. Â Some garlic bread would've been perfect. Â She got the bratwurst and kraut dinner and really liked it as well. Â
I will be back, several times!!
This place is great. The atmosphere is 40's chill down to the black and white TV- No loud music, or bands. The Colorado whiskey and beer menu is legit not to mention the Chicken schnitzel is a fats kid dream come true-especially with the capers. I love this place. the fire pillars out side were worth the investment, because I would have never found this place.
Review Source:If you are lucky enough to talk to Lenka, the owner, all is perfect. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. She spent a lot of money to make this bar look as good as it does, and the food and drink are just as good. Great fun!
PS. if you can get one, try their pretzels. They are like nothing you have EVER had and are also homemade. They sell out quick, so pick one up ASAP!
Took the opportunity last night to finally follow a friend's recommendation, and went to grab dinner at the new Arvada Tavern... and we're so glad we finally did.
The place has a really cool feel. Â From the tin ceiling over the bar to the rough-hewn wood around the bar, the interior is really fun. Â Good find on a cold winter's night.
The drinks, are vintage. Â Very different, but very well thought-out. Â I had "The Last Word," which is a fun spin on a gin drink from Prohibition-era Detroit. Â Better yet, they use local liquors for most of their drinks, and I think all the beers are local. Â For dinner i had the chicken schnitzel. Â I would've NEVER thought of doing schnitzel with chicken... not only tasty, but very juicy and tender.... and crispy on the outside.
My wife had the pierogis... Â in her own words... YUM. Â Think they're very homemade, and let's just say the butter doesn't hurt. :)
For dessert, the apple strudel. Â I usually like vanilla sauce instead of whipped cream, but it wasn't a bad change. Â Possibly something to consider.
The staff, for their part, was fantastic. Â Friendly, on the spot, and always trying to make things happen quickly and tastily.
Overall, I couldn't have been happier, or more pleasantly surprised. Â Nothing better than a new local business making a serious go of it. Â These guys aren't screwing around... it's a very solid place, and i'm looking forward to my next visit! Â Well played!
Coming back up from shopping in Denver, stopped by for an early dinner - and I'm so glad we did! Sat in a great speakeasy-type booth, with high padded back for an intimate meal. I enjoyed the great cocktails; the lavender greyhound was amazing, and I enjoyed both the Bright One & Chrysanthemum. I had the trout, which was great, the roasted tomato, asparagus & mushrooms,on the side were amazing! my boyfriend had the special, pepper steak & it was perfectly cooked. I can't wait to come back!
Review Source:What can be said about the "new" little tavern on the block? A lot. Â The space is small but intimate, the menu is small but incredibly well constructed, full of flavors that are sure to brig you back for more. Â The drink menu is put together nicely as well, you are going to pay a little more, bit the drinks are worth the price, and the time it takes to make them. Â The Arvada tavern is a new mainstay on our list of regular haunts we will keep coming back to.....
Review Source:Great cocktail menu, great vibe, good food. Â
I took advantage of the Yelp check-in special and got a free cocktail- a classic French 75. Â Starving and not thinking straight, I quickly ordered the pork sliders that oozed with chili and melted cheese...yum. Â For my meal I got the potato and cheese pierogies...good onion flavor and cooked traditionally drowned in butter. Â Wished I asked for butter on the side instead. Â Next time, I'll get the Mac and cheese with chili instead.
I completely did not expect to find a cool retro cozy place like this in Arvada...I thought my options would be one of the many chain restaurants down the road. Â Great option in olde town Arvada.
Lisa H and I were up in Arvada to meet up with some friends and instead of one of our usual haunts, we headed over to the relatively new Arvada Tavern for dinner.
First off, this place just oozes coolness before you even step in, you can just feel it. Â And secondly, upon entry, you feel your coolness factor rise as well. Â The jazzy music of the 20s and 30s greets your ears while your eyes are treated to a classy interior of recovered pine and soft lighting.
After rising in coolness points, we all took a seat at one of the long tables near the bar. Â The place was packed to the gills, which I shall take as a good sign. Â We were promptly received by our awesome server, who immediately took our drinks and made sure to mention the Yelp Check-In special: Â one free drink with an entree purchase. Â After looking at the Arvada Tavern's fantastic mixed drink menu, I was incredibly happy with the check-in offer! Â Lisa H and I both opted for their St. Germain mix: Â the St. Germain Shandy, an awesome combo of the aforementioned cordial, a kolsch, and lemon. Â Oh my, this was oh so lovely! Â The beer menu was very awesome as well, so if you're not up for a martini or cocktail, you'll always be welcomed with open arms by a fabulous brew.
Next up, the food! Â The Arvada Tavern's menu may be small, but it knows how to work it! Â I opted for the green chili mac-n-cheese. Â Could anything be better than cheese and green chili? Â I think not! Â And boy, this was some good eats! Â I made sure to share with everyone so they could be jealous of my awesome order. Â While they may have been jealous, I too was jealous of the fabulous burger Lisa chose and the steak melt my buddy Colan ordered. Â I can't wait to return to sample some apps and another entree!
Old Town Arvada, I'm oh so jealous of you having this amazing tavern in your midst! Â Fantastic food, amazing drinks, and a cool vibe that can't be beat. Â I shall be back. Â SOON.
Really charming little spot in Olde Town Arvada... Â Where strong drinks are poured and delicious plates are served. Â
I would have never thought to come here for dinner but after reading the reviews of my fellow Yelpers... I had a craving for pork chops and that was what I got.
BF got their Chicken Schnitzel and it was perfectly fried. Â We loved that they served with fancy sides like asparagus and baked steak fries. Â As a Yelper, check-in currently will give you a free cocktail when purchasing dinner entrees. Â
The pork chops were out of this world. Â They were perfectly seasoned and I was amazed that I didn't even need any sauce. Â The pork chops were juicy and delicious! Â Love that they serve it automatically with healthy sides like sauteed spinach and baked steak fries and also cinnamon sugar apples. Â
Love the decor and the music... very nostalgic, probably playing up the fact that they own the first liquor license in Arvada after the Prohibition. Â
Wow, I haven't even gotten to the drinks yet... Â
We tried the Mint Julep (Wowsers! Â So good!), The Last Word (Has a delicious herbal refreshing taste!) and the French 75 (Danger ahead!!?! Â This is so good it's like juice!!) Â Did I mention the strong pour? Â Reminded me of New Orleans!
All the drinks were super tasty and if you were to just want a good sip of scotch, they put a ginormous ice cube in there so you can get the true taste of the whiskey. Â (Not like other places with small ice cubes and they dilute!)
The only gripe - and I only have this problem in the winter time - is that the big portioned food was so amazing that it shouldn't be served on a cold plate. Â For the portion, I'd like for my food to stay warm to the last bite if possible.... Even my local hole-in-the-wall ghetto diners serve their meals on a hot plate. Â Just a thought, The Arvada Tavern... Â ;)
Cocktails are tasty and very unique. We've tried almost all available on the menu and they were all wonderful. Â Recently had the chance to try the trout, mac'n cheese and the pierogis. All were great. Â However the best part about this place is the friendly staff. We've been served by 3 different servers and 1 bartender and everyone was super friendly. Also had the chance to meet the owner Mike and he not only has a very warm personality but you can tell is pouring his heart and soul into this bar so it succeeds.
Update: Went back for a date night with the wife and still waiting to find something that doesn't go above and beyond. So much care is taken to make every single item on the menu, it's quite the site to see. Some think it is too expensive, maybe it's because it's a bar/tavern, but $14 is actually really cheap because the food is 4-5 star restaurant quality, not bar quality. Â Last night every person who was at the bar next to us tried food, and all said it was the best they've ever had. Seriously.
The best bar / restaurant in the heart of Olde Town. Mike and staff have done a great job of turning around this location, which had faltered in recent years. The '40's style decor and music are comfortable and classy, and as in any bar, it's the people who make it great. Adam and Andy behind the bar are top notch bartenders, which makes such a huge difference in the experience.
A truly great bar like this makes you feel better about the world and yourself than you did when you walked in. That's what it's about.
I had the schnitzel last night, served with capers and a little taste of anchovy. I was surprised at how quickly it came out. Also a couple excellent cocktails... The carefully handmade mint julep was done right, with the metal cup and the little spoon/straw. I plan to eventually eat and drink my way through the entire menu, because it's all been very good so far.
I don't know how they got such a good chef, but he clearly is on his A-game, and I'm sure the new, expanded, well-designed kitchen helps.
The Arvada Tavern is one of the brighter stars among a handful of excellent new establishments in Olde Town.
2012 Review #311:
I'm happy the trend of whiskey and updated old fashioned food has made its way west. Arvada now has a hooch and comfort food joint of its very own.
Basically it's a bar with food but it's actually worth getting food at this bar.
Way back when, Arvada was dry, even before prohibition. When prohibition was lifted, Arvada issued its first liquor license to Arvada Tavern. It's obviously not exactly the same business and it's had some nice updates, with nice big tables and some fresh paint.
There was only one server for the whole bar and restaurant and she was overworked. The owners and managers were present but weren't stepping in which troubled me a bit. Accordingly, service suffered and there were long waits for checks, orders, etc. At one point she stopped taking our order mid sentence when other people walked in.
For food and bev we tried the Aviation cocktail, the Madge something cocktail, the pork buns, pork chop, and the asparagus salad. My aviation was very good, and my husband's cocktail was the best he had outside of Green Russell.
The pork buns, which we expected to be Asian style, were actually braised pork sliders topped with green chile and cheese. Good, filling, and worth the $6, but maybe call them sliders? Bun is sort of misleading. My husband's pork chop was good, almost tasted like steak, and came with well seasoned apples and potatoes. My salad was OK- asparagus was overdone, onions were good, but the salad was spring mix from a bag. That made it a bit regrettable for me but I still liked the flavors.
There are TV's but the volume was muted so it's not obtrusive. There's a nice old cigarette machine and a phone booth, which feels throwback and authentic, not fake or hipstery. There's a Yelp check in deal right now for a free cocktail with food purchase, and if I were you I'd get down here and try it. I hope they get enough walk-by business to keep afloat, because I'd like to not have to go all the way to Denver to get my retro fix.
Had our first experience at the newly renovated Arvada Tavern. We have been watching and waiting for them to open their doors. They have a fun list of craft cocktails, a nicely varied menu, a little pricier than I was expecting but well worth the asking price. we sat near the kitchen on purpose so we could see the different dishes coming out and everything looked great. Friendly service good food and well blended cocktails can't wait to try something else there.
Review Source:Until a couple of years ago the Arvada Tavern was a fun, reliable dive bar. Â Then it was partially renovated and became Red Jacks, which wasn't bad, but wasn't great or as fun as it had been.
Arvada Tavern in its latest incarnation is my new favorite place in Old Town Arvada (maybe even in the Denver area). Â We've visited twice since they opened last Friday. Â
The latest remodel is retro-gorgeous and comfortable. Â There are two TVs, but they haven't been on when we've been there (a promising plus in my book). Â The music is all old-school standards from the likes of Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.
The drink menu is fantastic and the bartenders really know what they're doing. Â There aren't nearly enough bars around that put so much thought and care into making proper drinks.
The food is also terrific. Â There are several items on the menu that you won't find many other places (fried pig ears and scratch-made pierogis). Â So far, I've had the green chile mac and cheese and the Colorado red trout. Â Both were delicious. Â I had the leftover mac and cheese for lunch at work yesterday and it made my day!
I'm looking forward to many, many more visits to this perfect bar. Â I hope they're in business forever and that the don't change a thing!
