I wouldn't call this place authentic but the food is decent.  I had sushi from them recently and it's alright.  Same price as Marsh or Kroger for similar quantity but better quality overall, plus you get the miso soup!

After a quick look over the menu (hibachi tables, a sushi bar, and various udon dishes) we opted for the hibachi experience. We had shrimp, scallops, and chicken. It was OK, not great. The chef dropped some blobs of cold garlic on everything at the end of cooking and then didn't mix it, so it was pockets of minced garlic in there. Surprise!

Also ordered a spicy scallop roll just to see what that was about. The scallops were so cold...maybe just a tab above freezing... a hint of ice crystals. Eh. Not a show stopper, but not great.

The food here.... well, there's no love, no passion. Just bored staff going through the motions it seems like. Several very nice fish tanks!

Mediocre hibachi lunch for three, and 3 cokes, $50+ with tip. Yikes!

I ate at Asuka today for the first time and I wasn't really that impressed. I didn't try the habachi, only the sushi. We got the regular roll combo and while the portion of the sushi was pretty good, the quality of the fish was just okay. The california roll had sesame seeds on the outside which ruined them for me. The rice underneath the nigiri kept falling apart so it made the sushi hard to eat. Some of the fish was too dry to eat. It would be better to pay slightly more at Ami or Sushi Bar and get getter sushi then settle for Asuka.

I have to admit we are fans.  Do not go there to impress anyone, the decor in the hibachi room is quite lacking, but go there for great hibachi grilled food.  We have always had chefs that do tricks and we've been there at least 10 times.  Granted, some do more than others.  Our food has always been very consistent.  LOTS of food for the money.  Go hungry.  Kids love it.

I haven't done experienced the sushi or the "hibachi" grill. My experience has been confined to eating from the "Chinese" portion of the menu, and selections were good. Udon was good, very good portion size, and hearty. Warning: if you order the roasted duck version, there might be bones (neck) in the soup as my partner's had these. My vegetarian selections, like fried rice, were decent. Nothing bad to say; lots of room and lots of both student and local customers, some Asian, some not.

I can't believe this place hasn't gotten a health code violation.

Last two times I've eaten there have been a completely disaster, the first time we ordered delivery. I got two rolls and a salad, when my order came the salad was COMPLETELY rotten! There was tons of mold growing on the inside. Needless to say I didn't eat any of the rest of the meal. After calling them, they explained that they get their salads prepackaged and that sometimes things like that happen... WTF? On top of that the manager/owner didn't even offer to refund my order and just offered me $5 off my next meal.

Our next visit was equally as bad, a couple of friends convinced me to go back and try out their sushi again. This time, I noticed when we got our rolls that the avocado inside was almost completely brown. I was really hungry and decided just to take the chance. Aside from being completely flavorless, you can definitely tell that the fish wasn't the least bit fresh. A couple of hours later all of us felt really sick. Definitely never going back.

The ambiance was unimpressive. The fish in the sushi was completely FLAVORLESS.  I was glad that I hadn't gotten the sashimi. They included lots of tempura bits in the rolls that made them palatable. The ginger was darkly dyed. The booth I sat in was oddly widely spaced so if you sat back in the seat you couldn't comfortably reach the table. They were playing Lady Gaga on the stereo. It must have been someone's birthday because all of a sudden the music was replaced with a LOUD recording of children singing "Happy Birthday." Just when I thought it couldn't get any more unpleasant, the children in the recording started singing the verses in different languages. Overall, I was incredibly disappointed on all levels and will not go again.

The owner is an asshole, and I distinctly remember him from my college days when he ran the former Noodle Town restaurant next door.

The hibachi experience at Asuka leaves much to be desired.

The last two times I've eaten at the hibachi tables here the chefs performed ZERO tricks or acts of entertainment of any kind.

The chef had the food on the grill before we had received our beer or soup.  The alleged "miso" soup (actually it was beef broth) and house salads came out at the same time.  The fried rice was dished onto our plates before any of us had finished either our soup or salad.

My girlfriend and I each ordered steak, and we each ordered it rare.  When the chef put a steak on the grill before we had finished our soup, I told him to slow down and take it off if it was for us.  We had just received our soup and salads and we had an appetizer of sushi still on the way.  And here was the chef who had already cooked and served us our fried rice and vegetables and was about to cook our steak while we were still working on our soup and salad.  What's the rush?!

I reminded the chef and the creepy owner who was standing near the table that we just wanted to finish our soup and salad and that we hadn't even gotten our sushi.  By this time we had been in the restaurant for about 12 minutes, and the meal was already half-way over.  It was like a military exercise.

The sushi came out and the chef eventually asked if he could cook our steaks.  It had been about 15 minutes since we walked in the door, but how do you ask for more time when the chef is standing there, spatula in hand, waiting for you to give the nod of approval, and the other couple is quietly and timidly accepting their hurried rations?

The steaks we ordered rare came medium-well even though I asked him to removed them from the grill more than once, but to no avail.  He squirted a teriyaki molasses all over my girlfriend's steak, which I luckily had time to prevent him from doing to mine.  Watch out for that.

We were in and out of the place in 30 minutes!  The same thing happened last time I ate there too.  Not a pleasant way to spend $35.

Poor service, no hibachi-style cooking tricks, and the feeling that you're not welcome.  I'll take my business elsewhere.

Owner is creepy and tends to be rude.

Sushi is wildly inconsistent, when I was going there for sushi.

Teryaki chicken and Hibachi were always great.

Well the food was fine... however the waiter who argued with us after we pointed out he had charged us for three glasses of wine when we only had two was pretty obnoxious.

So far on quality/price for sushi it's been the best I've found here.  For non-sushi fans the hibachi is fun to take friends too, but I wouldn't waste my money on their smelly hibachi fish- stick with chicken.  Not the best skilled Hibachi chefs I've ever seen so you might not be impressed with their 'skillz.'

I think there are better places with cheaper sushi in Bloomington, so this place isn't worth your time unless you're looking for something else.

My friends and I frequent Asuka because of the hibachi grill.  It's dinner and a show (the onion volcano is amazing).  The sushi is a lot better then most places in town as well.
