The Owlery Restaurant

Nice people.  Nice atmosphere.   Kinda crowded sometimes.  The best is the sunday brunch.  Punk rock vegan favorites such as nutritional yeast mac and cheeze and vegan BLTs.  Vegetarian options as well if you like real cheese.

Hmmm... I've had good experiences here in the past, but in the last 3 visits, I have to say it's slowly going down hill. I have to say most of the food is pretty darn good. BUT, the service and wait times on the weekends makes the experience kind of unacceptable. We were there this past Saturday and it was busy, but not full and it took almost an hour to get our food. We ordered pancakes and eggs and biscuits and gravy. It's really not that complicated, I've worked in restaurants before. There were major lulls in food coming out. They just don't seem to have it together, with one waiter, one food runner/busboy and I don't know how many people they have in the kitchen, but it shouldn't take that long to get your food. Lots of times we saw the waiter and busboy standing around. When the good came out finally, we ate everything (and it wasn't hot btw) in about 2 mins because we were so hungry. We asked for the check and it took another (I kid you not) 20 mins. to get our check. Nobody surfaced and it was awful. We ended up tracking someone down just to pay. It's not an ideal experience. Again, the food was good but you have to be willing to tolerate long waits and non-existent service. Otherwise, there are plenty of other wonderful brunch places in town that will get you in and out with good hot food.

If you are looking for a non meat substitute for you favorite restaurant grub then this is the place.  

I've been eating a plant based diet for several months and this menu was just bizarre to me.  Personally, I am not looking for a tofu that taste like fish (which my friend got).  It looked like and tasted like bar fish and chips.  So, mission accomplished.  Only to me, it just looked breaded and deep fried and not very healthy.

The Poutine that everyone raved about again, not particularly healthy.  Gravy, fries, and vegan cheese.  

I got the Ruben.  It was tasty and complements the flavor of an actual ruben.  The side of greens was VERY good.  

The sweet potato fries were in fact really good.  

Maybe I should have made better selections on the menu for myself.  I wont be in a hurry to rush back.  I'd have like to see more fresh, non fried items on the menu.  If I honestly decide to have BBQ, a BLT, or Philly Cheese steaks, I'd probably go down the street to Nicks and get those with real meat.  

I really like to environment.  The staff was friendly, service was fast.  The beer selection was very good.
