Cafe Django is in a very convenient location just off of Kirkwood on Grant Street-- a major plus for walking to the shops or checking out the nightlife before or after dinner. Â Django is in an old house that was very cozy! Â It is decorated in a "jazzy" style and there are instruments and famous musicians' pictures around the house. Â Each room is painted in a different color and the festive lighting was a nice touch! Â There was also a real fire going next to the piano player for the night- all contributing to a lovely ambiance! Â The hostess was very welcoming and seated us as soon as we walked in for our 7:30 reservation. Â The restaurant was filled completely by 8 PM for the piano player, but we were still able to carry on a conversation between the four of us quite easily. Â The appetizers ranged anywhere from around $4 to $11. Â We ordered 2 orders of the Momo dumplings, 1 beef and 1 veggie. Â I highly recommend these! 3 come in an order and 1 is quite filling. Â They have a huge drink menu, specializing in Italian espresso drinks. Â They also serve various alcoholic beverages from the bar. Â For dinner I ordered the Cafe Django stir fry w/ chicken for $12.95. Â You can order entrees and specify the level of spice you want from 1-6 (1 being mild and 6 being most spicy). Â I got a 2 and it was just enough of a kick to get my taste buds going, but not too much. Â I salad or soup also comes with any entree. Â Entrees ranged from $10 to $16 (salmon was the most expensive at $16). Â A good deal as the portion sizes are plenty! My sisters ordered the Anticucho chicken and the nutty noodles and I would recommend both of these as well! Â The Anticucho has a delicious salsa that comes with it and the nutty noodles are bursting with flavor! Â The staff were running around taking care of many tables- I think there were only 3 people working the dining area (including the hostess)- and they kept food moving in and out of the kitchen quite quickly for the amount of people there! Â We didn't have much of a chance to interact with them because they were so busy, but we didn't mind as the food was great and the ambiance was fantastic! Â Definitely would have given this review five stars if i could have interacted more with them-- it would have felt less like a process of getting people in and out. Â Service was fast and the waiters were attentive though- filling waters and clearing plates. Â There are plenty of vegetarian choices too, and you can substitute tofu in any entree. Â This place is perfect for an intimate dinner or small groups of people. Â For four entrees and 2 appetizers we spent $65-- not too shabby for a Friday night candlelit dinner and getting to listen to the piano player!
Review Source:The atmosphere here is awesome, service is horrible, and the food is just okay. The only thing I've had here that I liked was the salmon..which honestly I feel like you can get decent salmon just about anywhere. The only reason I keep going is because it's a cool little spot for live music.
