The Athletic Club Sports Bar and Grill

Arrived in Charleston after a total traveling and hotel cluster eff.

Was sweaty, tired, sore, and more than ready to respond to fighting words....

And was about 25% diffused by the host / bartender, who was friendly and professional.

Then was 70% diffused by a hard-working and personable server.  She was wonderful - professional, able to "apologize for Charleston" earnestly without being debased (for something she wasn't responsible for) or treat us like we were unreasonable for being annoyed by something that would be incredibly annoying to anyone.  (Dear ACSB: your staff, at least those working Saturday, June 15, are exceptional - value them!)

Brews were ice cold, as was white wine.  Appreciated.  The app sampler was impressive.  Dips were tasty (though not unique). The TVs gave a great view of the Bruins.  That  diffused the other 5%.  Liked the pastrami.  The fish and fries are good.   Beef was good.  This place is more than a chain sports bar.  The food came across as fresh, well prepared, and tasty, well above the local chain crap.  And service was very, very good for a casual restaurant.

The apple pie (more of an apple pocket, I think) is very, very tasty.  Homemade and nommy.   Try it!

I have no doubt that their roomservice is quick to deliver....if I'm there again, I wouldn't hesitate to order.
