The Ave is a great place to come have a drink with your friends. It is sort of like the "Cheers" bar of Ingleside. Bar tenders are knowledgeable and awesome! During Football season the owner even cooks up her own food every now and then for FREE! and $7 dollar bottomless mimosas? Who can pass that up?!!!!
Review Source:The Ave is kind of the best neighborhood bar a girl can ask for. Me and my roommates frequently come here for $7 bottomless mimosas every Sunday. Ray is an awesome bartender and never leaves your mimosa run dry.
The Ave also works with tons of local brewerys and always has a dank selection of beers and drink specials.
Got lost and sidetracked in traffic so my friend exited the freeway and decided to find a random place to grab food. But we found our way into this random dive bar first!
We entered the bar and was like uhh... should we just go back out. We kind of looked out-of-place based on how the other clienteles looked like, but hey, no discriminating and no prejudicing, alcohol is alcohol. And we've both had a long day being stuck in traffic and being stuck in the airport, so a drink was very much appreciated!
There was a good selection of tap beer and we quickly order double ipas. Gotta get that buzz on before dinner of course..
While we were finishing up our drinks, the nice owner lady has a conversation with us. It's funny that she asked us how we wandered into her bar. Then friend and her had a conversation about the tap beers, and although I enjoy beers, I am by far not a connoisseur, just an avid admirer :)
So we were only there for 30 minutes at most. But had 3 beers and a free shot of tuaca (first time trying tuaca but did not know it was vanilla-dominant)
Pros
+very personable, friendly owner. She is also attractive. Knows her beers
+juke box
Cons
-kind of reeked of stale/dried alcohol which is reminiscent of pee smell
If you know what your getting into, there is not a better bar to go to even more so if you live in ingleside/lakeview/daly city, a real local bar thats slowly turning into more of a college scene, but the people in there are always extremely nice and welcoming, and the bartenders are awesome, i could not be happier with my local bar, plus the beer on tap is unbelievable, usually all local brews, switching weekly, i love it. Oh, each drink always at least $1-2 cheaper than every other bar in SF, $4 pints?? cant beat that!
Review Source:I was always hesitant to go to this place, every so-so I'd see the hood stars hanging outside (hood stars + young women = thirst alert). However, I randomly went with two of my buddies and it was NICE. I wish there were more of a crowd (like the mission) but I was immediately sold with the nice young lady who was bartending for the night and also, the jukebox...
omg. I love NAS, I love AZ, I love the firm, I LOVE Mobb Deep. There were such a variety of good music, but I never really think to see this at any bars that I go to. Didn't stay for so long, but it's nice to see that there is even a bar here worth keeping in Ingleside! forever grateful. If I could rally some friends who are down to go, yeah, I'll be back. I want to give this place 4 stars, but I'll need to go again to be sure lol. So 3 it is!
This is your classic neighborhood dive bar, where everyone knows your name. And if they don't, they will by the end of the night. Gary runs the show, and he's real chill and wants to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable (extra props for giving me free rum on my birthday!). There's plenty of space to spread out, a small dance area in the back if you need to shake a tail feather, and TV's to watch the game. The only room for improvement would be to add some more music to the jukebox. Aside from that, this place is the best spot in Ingleside to meet neighborhood residents and catch up with old friends/classmates. You will definitely get at least one person asking you, "Did you go to Lincoln/Aptos/Commodore Sloat/Balboa/St. Emydius?".
Review Source:I went her on Sat to meet up with some friends for drinks around 3, before the NewYear started. I was so much funny. The atmosphere was great and Terie was serving the BOMB drinks. I also liked the news clippings of the ole school basketball teams and players, especially since I knew some and it brought back lots of fun memories. Big ups to the owner, more room there to get your party on....Warm and Fun. I WILL BE BACK.....maybe today...LOL
Review Source:The DJ on Thursdays is the best! Â He plays old school hip hop, funk RnB, and even mixes in some old school Bay Area rap which makes the crowd go crazy!
The crowd here is cool. Â Local SF cats from the neighborhood, no transplants here!
I should add a disclaimer... the DJ on thursday is my younger brother =).
Having moved into the area, happy to have discovered this friendly neighborhood place! Really outgoing customers, great bartenders in Michael and Lyra. Met one of the owners and his wife too. Last Saturday I stayed thru the "change of shifts" so to speak, had pleasure of being served by both bartenders and then listening to a fantastic DJ as well. Noticed that they also have food delivery menus and suggestions on hand in case you get hungry too. Definitely a place to try once, and you will return, and probably often. Just found out there is another DJ too, John "Da Bomb" and so that gives another excuse to get here, and fast. And the jukebox (almost forgot) is fanfreakintastic. Uncensored versions of the songs too. Unbelievable!
Review Source:i will be back for 2 dollar Draft beer, like Racer 5 when Warrior games are there!!
I looked up a bar so that I could watch the Giants/Dodger game on Monday and found this highly rated bar near my house.
When my girl friend and I walked in, we were the only females besides one of the bartenders. The entire bar area was filled with guys and everyone was just chilling because multiple games, like the Warriors, Sharks were on TV. I think were a total of 5 TVs which makes it a great sports bar.
I added an extra star for the owner/bartender giving us 3 free shots of Tuaca (?) kinda sweet, and also for setting up an area, and changing the closer TV for me and my friend to sit in and to watch our Giants game!
I have to roll this bar back a star.
I've been back here a couple times and the taps of beer were a little more expensive. Â Maybe the girl bartending when I was here the first time was just really cool. Â Also, they don't serve pitchers of beer. Â C'mon now how can you not have pitchers if you're a bar with beer on tap.
One more thing, nobody poured me up any free Jameson, I had to pay for my jamo. Â So yeah, I guess the girl bartending the first time I came through was just really cool.
Very nice place! Went there with my bf for the first time tonight, as it's 3 blocks away from my place and we wanted to go somewhere close. Love Treasure, the Bartender. She really lives up to her name and doesn't take nonsense from anyone. The patrons there are mostly regulars and very, very friendly, willing to talk and have a good time. No pool table or outside patio, but plenty of places to chill and hang out indoors. They have drink specials every night, and wine tasting on certain sundays where you pay $10 and you get to taste a lot of wine and get food too. Â The patrons are mostly men, and I did notice some of them sending coldish stares at my bf, so I can tell it is probably a "sausage fest" in there if if a woman is by herself or with one or two of her girlfriends. But we had a good time here and will definitely be back soon!
Review Source:Hanging out and watching a Giants game at the Ave is like chillin' at a barbershop. Bunch of guys talking, sports, smack, ish', and what not.
There isn't a pool table or anything else to keep you occupied but the friendly regulars are lively and will keep you entertained. Â
They do have some old school pictures on the walls for decoration. As well as some old school class and football/basketball team pics from the local all boys HS that's right around the corner. Riordan is the barkeep's alma mater as well as mine. There's some serious male bonding to be had here.
How do you not love a place where you meet a man that has dubed himself 'Money'?
My friend and I went here after hitting up Somar and The Den, and it was great - highly entertaining. $4 Sangrias and a sausage fest. The music was great, the waitress was quirky and awesome and the staff from Somar left work to come down here for food and a quick drink on their break - that's a sign if I ever saw one!
I can't wait to go back.
Owned and run by some friends of mine, I love this place. Â I can drink, watch a game, listen to music I LIKE (not like everywhere else in this nutty town), play Wii, eat my own food, and catch up on gossip, all in one spot. Â
I've been trying to get them to name a drink after me, but they say nobody wants to drink something called the "Angry Asian", or the "High Killer". Â I say, them folks don't know what they're missin'!
Anyway, The Ave is a good, friendly place to be yourself. Â Just don't be no fool.
I used to go here when it was owned by a guy named Bernard and it was called "The Avenue Club". Â
The Ave is to the Avenue Club as John Legend is to Marvin Gaye. Â The Ave is a newer, younger version of the Avenue Club. Â Cheap drinks, lots of football, and nice, friendly regulars. Â The lineup in the jukebox still consists of Soul classics like the Temptations and The Delphonics, but Sam Cooke and Donnie Hathaway have been replaced by Boyz II Men and Outkast. Â
I've been there on a few Sunday afternoons when Rodney, the owner, will buy pizza for the bar or a regular will bring in homemade ribs and meatball sandwiches. Â As I said earlier, everyone here is very friendly. Â
It's a great place if you live in the area, or know someone that does.
This place is definitely a low key locals bar (relative to its location). I'm a bit biased bc I know one of the guys running the place. Both guys are SFFD, need I say more ladies? That said, I went here last minute with a couple of folks late night. I had such a great time although my head wouldn't agree with me the next day.
There are some characters in this place. A couple of the local old guys (60+) would get up and dance, sing and bob their heads to music playing from the juke box and make comments that literally could have gotten them roles in the movie Friday. One old guy started to dance and called out another old guy, at the end of the "battle" one says to the other... "man, you a foolio!"
I wasn't anticipating a night like this, but seriously, it could have BEEN in the movie Friday. I loved it.
