This is super cool because you can drink on campus and there tends to be great music going on. Be there for happy hour and be sure to bring friends so you can share a pitcher of beer. About 8 different beers on tap and they serve food. Can't complain about a place you can come to after classes and have a beer or two.
Review Source:Real chill spot on campus at the Cesar Chavez Center to grab a drink or to check out some local acts for FREE! I stopped by one night to check this place out and listen to one of my classmate who was performing. The place is not auditorium size but there is enough room for a little over 100 people. I'm not sure which nights are the best but I heard that they have DJs at the Depot daily.
Where else can you get alcohol on campus? Perhaps this is the right spot for students to stop by right before a speech or presentation. Great place to stop by for a drink to loosen up and get rid of anxiety.
FIVE STARS. That's right....FIVE. I'm being as giving as the depot has been for the past several months.
Depot,
Man, have you been great to me for awhile now. You welcomed me with open arms from the beginning. You made all those term papers quite enjoyable with the background sounds of the arcade games and Pokemon duels below. Every Tuesday and Thursday, I'd come down there and isolate myself within your "fuck cellphones" walls with my large cup of coffee and oversized 'on steroids' chocolate muffin (all from yours truly, cafe 101) and just marinate in the awesomeness that is the Depot for my class layovers. This place was most definitely my refuge when I was going through the "holy f, it's september and it's 45 degrees" moments in which I wore shorts and a t and needed a warm shelter to hide away in. I don't know what it is about the lighting down there, too, but it just made studying so much easier. So, thank you. Just to let you know, I've shared one of the best conversations in your creaky wooden chairs and I have to say my favorite spot was always the table beside the piano, in front of the stage.
Speaking of, I will never forget that awkward, old Asian man who comes in to play the same chinese songs on repeat every single noon until 5 pm. He was the main reason why I stopped going for awhile (he used to always ask me to play the piano with him, I knew ONE song. He didn't care of course, and so I found myself playing Heart and Soul for 15 minutes at a time). He doesn't disrupt me anymore, I found that lack of eye contact does it. However, without the old Asian man playing his noon tunes, it just wouldn't be the same. At night, you promised me the musical stylings of the ever so "hip" kids from our campus, I loved the diversity of the open mic nights.
Rack-N-Cue was a recently discovery of mine, since it was nestled between the Pizzeria and arcade machines...I could never get a Billards table which sucks, but that air hockey table NEVER does me wrong. Winning streak, ftw!
The Pub
Oh, awkward moments at its finest! I will never forget the time a friend and I went down to the Pub one Thursday afternoon after lunch for a brewski and ran into my rather dashing Math professor. What else was left to do but raise my cup, smile, and take a sip confidently? Nothing! This place is rather small but its cozy and just enough. It really is a nice little get away for some beers and to watch some ESPN.
The Depot...you have made my freshman year of college a great one because of all the memories you've helped me create. Thanks for the chill atmosphere and the sound of arcade machines/people talking/drunk people conversing machinery. You will always have a place in my heart.
PAYMENT: When it comes to cards as a way of payment, like every other place on campus now, you must have a minimum purchase of $5 in order to pay with a debit/credit card. Cash is your friend, make sure to withdraw if you're trying to cheat your way through a cheap meal in here!
